Page 1420…
Happy Tuesday!
So…I’ve finished ALL of the sketches for the Kickstarter books.
The last hundred books are being shipped out this week.
Whew.
Thank you for your patience while I’ve personalized everyone’s books just for them.
I hope you all get them safely.
Scott
Good work as always, yet as far as my knowledge goes, shouldn’t it be “indulge” and not “indluge” in the last picture?
Glad to hear it, Scott. Must have been a bear what with the sudden cold snap.
Possibly – or it may be some obscure (to land dwellers) form of aquatic etiquette. 😉
Of course, when you can’t exactly serve up tea and crumpets underwater and arranging sushi artfully on a plate is hard because it keeps floating away… it’s no wonder it’s been a long time since visitors came calling.
Whee Story time :D!.. .. also I’d like to complain about ads for playpickle.com and epicplay.com. I consider the type of ads they are offering for your site highly obnoxious and the sort of ad I want to put up an ad-blocker for. :/. and I enjoy having my ad blocker down for this site :/…
All those years ago…
Arthur: “Oi! Fishtits! Gimme sword!”
Niviene: “I have three swords, which do you like?”
Arthur looks over the swords, I kind of like this one with the cat eye motif, but it is kind of stubby…”
“You cry out your affiliation three times and then scream ‘ho,’ makes it grow to full length,” Niviene explains.
“That is verily what she said,” Arthur smirks and asks, “What about this one?”
“That one comes with a skull-shaped castle, but you have to take steroids and wear a fur thong,” Niviene answers.
“Nay, that sounds like something to be parodied for all time… next thing you tell me is that I’ll have to ride around on a green tiger…” Arthur dismisses and asks of the last sword, “And this one? It has an eye motif and is already full size.”
“It’s a bit verbose,” Niviene responds.
“That’s it?” Arthur asks.
“Well that and that it is the most greatest sword evAR this side of Hyrule,” Niviene states.
“Sold!” Arthur shouts.
“But I am giving it to you for free!” Niviene gasps.
“Yes! ‘Tis a price I can afford!” Arthur yells.
Well, she looks comfortable.
I do not know why, but the image of her, waving her staff and shouting at the fish “Damn kids, get off my lawn!”, is stuck on my mind now.
For some reason, I really like the image of ‘Staj in the third panel. 😀
…and “indluge” typo. ;D
Wait, how does she know he’s a human? Is it because his hair isn’t a crazy color? Can merfolk instinctively tell legit-merfolk and kiss-merfolk apart?
Looking back on the past few pages, that’s the only way I can figure it out… Nastajia was the one that actually said “Niviene”, not to mention that’s what the other merfolk call Niv apparently. Alex said “Lady of the Lake”, but then Nivi seemed unfamiliar with the term anyway… (In either case I’m getting strange evil vibes from her on this page, but only because I only ever see evil characters politely imploring strangers to make themselves comfortable… there are no nice hosts in fantasy worlds. :c )
I think it’s the slight part in the front teeth that does it. There’s something inherently adorable about that (to me, at least).
Oops. Thank you for that. Fixed.
Thank you. I shall see if I can block them.
I like the underwater equivalent of a chaise lounge… very natural… the sort of place you would expect the Lady of the Lake to um… lounge. Oh, and I received my book last Friday. Thanks, Scott!
I have been thinking that the Lady looked familiar somehow. Today it came to me that she reminds me of River Song.
Yes. It’s the hair.
“It’s been far too long since I’ve had a visitor or someone to talk to.”
As long as King Proteus seems to have led us to believe (she is legend); wouldn’t she have been insufferably bored, forgotton how to speak the language (or any language); and how would she be spending her days (or nights)?
Out of context, the last panel looks seductive.
In that last panel, Niviene’s sleeves look like plastic cones to me. If they were made of the thin cloth they appear to be, it’s hard to imagine them maintaining that perfect cone shape. Instead, I would think they would drape, or maybe wave about in the water.

It is entirely possible it is Alex’s physical appearance. I don’t think we’ve seen any blond, beardless mermen before. Especially with a slight tan. Or it may be some mystical sense merpeople have for their own kind. It is also possible it’s his clothing; I can’t really see a merperson wearing armor normally. You add all that up, and it’s clear he’s not a merman; and since the ears rule out Elf, that leaves pretty much an adult human. As incredible as that might seem to any Dreamlander who’s not old enough to remember back to Arthur…
Good job on showing the lift that her hair gets from the water in the 4th panel, and then coming to rest in the 5th panel as she settles into the sofa.
Wouldn’t she want to know who THEY were first? ^^;; Though I guess having an interesting story and no one to tell it to for too long can make you very eager to talk to anyone who’d listen, regardless of who they are =P
ROFL!
LOL! totally made by day. XD
*choke* *snort*
AH, HA, HA, HA, HA!
Awesome.
I am so horribly glad I am not the only one who noticed this.
Why do I keep feeling like at any moment Niv is going to say “Hello Sweaty” to Alex?
So…how much thought went into designing the practical merfolk chair? It’s the little details like that that make this story.
