First?
Anyway, looks like they gotta fight their way out!
Niviene ex machina?
Alexander: There’s too many of them!
Nastajia: Accelerate to attack speed! Draw their fire away from the cruisers.
Sword of Kings: Copy, Gold Leader.
… Nobody else?
As a note, if you are on yesterdays page you cannot go forward to todays. The arrow links are missing, the only way I can get here is by going directly. Thanks.
Seems to be fixed now, or maybe its the browser I’m using. I’m chugging away with Chrome, here.
Huh! I thought there were five comments already!
If they follow the bubbles, they know which way is up!
Kinda like in Ender’s Game: “The enemy’s gate is down!”
There were five comments–but they didn’t show until after I posted! 😉
Uh-oh! Whichever way you go, it’s still hack and slash time…
Yeah, but the enemy’s gate was only down because Ender -chose- it to be. Subtle, yet important, difference.
Is it just me, or does Nastajia admitting she doesn’t know seem like something she REALLY isn’t used to saying?
Return of the Lady of the Lake? 🙂
My thought exactly. Or perhaps a guide taking them to her? Oooh! What about Dastan having followed them? XD
WHich direction? How about UP. Same way as the Bubbles go. ^^
Seems like there’d be some rocks or something to hide around, those things are so large they’d have trouble even getting into a corner. The structure they’re right next to must have some edges on it.
Just guessing though they find some sort of entrance to go into 🙂
It would be a mighty convenient time for the Lady of the Lake to come and save our heroes. They don’t deserved to be turned into fish food.
and I posted the comment too fast. I LOVE the lighting in this page.
UP!
“What I wouldn’t give for a Holocaust Cloak!”
I really hope he doesn’t wake up and leave her there.
Yes, My mind went there as well. 😀
Right into the mouth of one of theme, so he could not chew. With this Sword he could free them self fast nought.
And then we find out these things are the lady of the lake’s prized show serpents she has raised from eggs.
“You’ve killed my babies! What sort of king of dreamland are you?! You’re a psychopath!” She turns to Nastajia, “And you! Princess of the elves! I would have expected better of you than to latch onto the first “bad boy” you saw! You all disgust me! Get out of my ocean before a open up a can of regicide on your sorry fins!”
I would not lead them up in the least. As soon as they hit air they no longer have that awesome way of swimming fast and breathing water. Tactically the best bet is the corner between the sea floor and the lion head. A gap so narrow those large heads cannot fit into them.
The problem with up is, no cover. No concealment. No obstacles to slow down the serpents, it would all come down to who could swim the fastest. And I suspect that’s the serpents. Whereas if they go along the ocean floor there may be uneven terrain and boulders that would slow down pursuit, caves they could swim into the serpents couldn’t: Even if they could just reach the lion head wall and put their backs against it that would greatly restrict the directions they could be attacked from, and how many could get at them at a time. Whatever they’re going to do, though, they need to do it quick; the serpents are getting closer…
I wonder if the serpents could be negotiated with? Just because they don’t look like us it doesn’t mean that they are not intelligent.
Given that one let him hold its tooth and didn’t eat him, I don’t think their primary mission is to eat them. Of course it may be a secondary one if they don’t pass some kind of test. 😉
I’m beginning to wonder if they are acting in the capacity of security guards.
+5
“I’m going to kill you all to the last one of you!”
“I am the last one!”
– Dragonheart
There was an XKCD comic about that once. Thanks for reminding me of it. That also reminded me of Bean’s story, the one who would grow steadily physically for his entire life, until he reached a point where his body couldn’t support him and yet when Ender started at battle school, he was only about 3′ 6″. Good times…
They arrived there from a kelp forest, so if they can figure out which way that is, easy hiding spot.
You forget. The same reason they can’t go up, they can’t also just swim along the sea floor. The ocean has three dimensions at all times. The lion head wall is a good choice though.
Are you sure Alex isn’t about to whack its nose with his sword in that panel? Thats what I would do if some thing with big teeth was moving towards me with the intent to eat me. Grab a tooth, and use it to keep some distance so I don’t have to worry about it clamping down on say, my tail, while allowing me to still fight back. Also, the first serpent tried to eat them, so they aren’t in a very talkative mood if they are intelligent.
Hands: Which way?
Sarah: Which way?
Hands: Which way to do you want to go? Up, or down? Come on come on, we haven’t got all day. Well it’s a big choice for her.
Also it seems strange to me that Alex has his hand on a tooth of a serpant. Why? Because if they’re all that close, then they could easily be “fish food”.
Two thoughts:
1) Are they a communal group, or are they a “ever beast for itself”. So, if one launches at our heros, will others attack said beast to defends it’s future food source, or will they share?
2) Perhaps they’re not GOING to attack. They killed one of the serpants, but maybe it was guarding the lion head/Lady of the Lake. Once they dispatched the first serpent, the others recognized Alex as the new king?
You’re an evil little one, aren’t you?
True, but in choosing, Ender oriented himself and his ‘toon–which is what they need here.
Megabyte’s bumbling minions (all firepower and no brains) made it into Dreamland?
Oh, now there’s a twist I hadn’t thought of.
Yikes! Only just noticed that Alex has hold of one by a tooth.
Something else: That first critter was blue. All these seem to be red/green. Is that significant?
Perhaps this is the dragon offspring; this is the larvae stage and when they metamorphis they have wings and breathe air!!!
Don’t laugh! The humans went from air to water!
So if those things have lanterns like angler fish (and like Gobuls)… why are their eyes glowing and the lanterns not?
