That’s any of the 3 specials. Books 1-4, Books 1-4 and Paddington, Books 1-4 and everything else.
ANY of those combinations…I’ll throw in a copy of Book Five…FREE.
The books come in some time this week (Book Five, I mean) and I was thinking this would be a great way to have a special for those who don’t have the books (and who didn’t participate in the Kickstarter).
Sound good?
Wait a second… is Alex being genre savvy?
I think it’s more a case of Nastajia giving up too soon. All things considered, fairy tales don’t seem so unlikely when you’re talking to the king of the merpeople while under a transformation spell.
Though maybe he is pretty genre savvy. Those legends always happen to give you some cryptic clues as to where the legendary figure lives. Funny how they never decide to move anytime during the hundreds or thousands of years since those legends were created.
The tales speak her home as a mysterious object known only as a “van…” It was said to be windowless and down near the river…
Woah did alex just get a brain?
Nah, he has just read things like the princess bride. You see, the fact that something is inconceivable, does not mean that cannot happen.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
🙂
I just had a thought, when Alex is in mer-form, does the armor integrate into his scales or is he unprotected from the waist down?
Yup, good old Nicodemus himself even realised that eventually! 😛
Alex probably thinking “I kissed a guy to get here, I better get some sort of lead to her whereabouts. “
Don’t forget, Alex has years of reading comics and watching movies to draw on; he’s naturally genre savvy. He just has trouble applying it…
It means “To blay…” ;D
The underwater design looks great! The little details like the bubbles just make it so believable.
Couple of things:
First: The underwater light refraction in panel 2… Impeccable!! Scott you truly have a gift.
Second: I know the next comic will read as follows:
Merking: But the tales are not true
Alex: But if they WERE…
Merking: But they’re NOT…
Alex: But if they WERE…
(et cetera ad infinitum)
Forget to add:
Merking: But they’re NOT…
Alex: But if they WERE… (Alex making goofy, open-mouthed WINK)
😉
Ah-hah! Alex has a flash of insight! As long as they were willing to try a long shot, why not go all the way to the end of the tail (as it were)?
I agree with everybody else — the first thing I thought of when I read today’s strip was, “Hey! Alex actually has a good idea for once!!! Hooray!” And the second thing I thought of is, “Hey, what gives with Staj? She’s giving up way too easily on this one!”
It just goes to show you … Staj is young, too, and can actually make some big mistakes as well … and maybe there actually is some reason she’s in luv with that big hunk at her side (because if Alex were dumb as rocks all the time as he sometimes seems to be portrayed, I can’t imagine as smart a lady as Staj putting up with … wait, I take that back. I know of several very smart female friends of mine who actually did, in fact, fall madly in love with guys who had far more brawns than brains, and they made a wonderful complimentary set. *grins*)
Whatever the case, keep up the good work, Scott!!!
Where’s the like or +1 button? Darn it!!!
My first thought was “Aww, Alex is concerned for her and wants to help.” My next was “He kissed a guy to get down here, he’s making sure it wasn’t in vain.” Both arguments are probably valid so I can’t blame him.
Anybody else think of the Assassin Creed animus tutorial mode when they look at the second panel?
Are you trying to be discreet, Alex? If so, you failed.
Yup, it sure looks like it…
Hmmmm… Nastajia seems to have already made her descision as to their next move. Will Alex go try to persuade her to continue the search for the Lady of the Lake? And if he can’t, will he continue the search on his own? So many ways this can go now…
Win!
Clever Alex! 🙂
Love that Alex doesn’t want to give up. I do wonder whether Nastajia is just pretending to let go of the idea. If she is, I don’t know if I’d call it a mistake as such – it’s an incredibly long shot, and from a strategic point of view, she may feel they’re too likely to be wasting their time to pursue. Since this is a comic, genre savvy dictates that the long shot will pay off, but if you don’t break the 4th wall, it’s not usually a mistake to give up on the wild goose chases that will only yield results once in a million if you have another plan that is more likely to work.
She has no reason to think that she lives in a World where once in a million happens nine times out of ten, after all. 🙂
I love the general undertone of this comic – just because someone says it is a legend, fairy tale or impossible, doesn’t mean it isn’t probable – if it has merit, don’t give up – find the solution and realize the dream.
Kingfish: “Well, ahem, Sir King Alex, it is said… that she was living together with the Kraken, as husband and wife, in his cave. We never go near that place, for those who do, never come back.”
Alex:”I see! Oh…DOH! She might be a tad unhappy with me…”
lol XD yeah, they better get something out of it.
