“Foolish child…This will cause a a temporal hole in the dream spacetime continuum that will shift the reality into dreams and all the world will dream when awake and will be awake when dreaming….now you have to sacrifice Nicole in order to change this!!!”
Hahaha… it might have something to do with that. No, but seriously…. her face just always seems to be behind other people’s heads. So it peaked my interest. That – and she’s got green hair. I have a weakness for green, as you can see from my avatar.
Sometimes, even royalty needs to be talked down to, to make them realize that was they did/said/planned/whatever was just plain dumb. Mind you, this can only be done safely by a trusted friend, advisor and/or mentor (though it may be somewhat tolerated from a family member, depending on the situation). That kind of move is definitely not advised coming from the general population…
Personally I know it’s a kid’s comic and we have to keep it pg and all. But I kinda wish Alex’s reaction would be “%$#@ you you horse’s ass!” The poor boy has taken a lot of crap from this world and as far as I’m concerned he could use a little more respect from his supposed followers. Unless of course they don’t see him as anything more than pawn. Which Orion probably does.
What’s this “Foolish Child!” bit, Orion? Did you tell Alex as part of his training NOT to let anyone else, even a friend, have the Sword on Earth? If not, then aren’t YOU the fool, Mr. Oh So Wise Teacher?
Also, since Naj knew all about Felicity’s plan ahead of time, what rock was Orion under that he was so out of the loop?
I think Orion rues the day he ever took Alex under his hoof, but if Alex went through with it, never once saying saying that “the sword says this” or “someone else says that,” then surely he was never told flat out Do Not Do This. Unless Orion fears that he’ll march down the same path of destruction that King Arthur did, or now suddenly Nicole will do her damndest to get into Dreamland, etc.
Hey speaking of, if Dreamland was ruled by past tyrants and dictators, kind of funny that Arthur is the only one not satisfied with what we had and did what he did with good intentions, very naive and dumb good intentions IMHO but good intentions all the same.
I think it’s more an “I thought you were smarter than that! You should’ve been able to deduce you don’t just hand other people something as important! But since you couldn’t you’re obviously still nothing but a child!”
Probably followed by an “I am aware of the hypocrisy!”
“And what does that mean in English?”
“Here, give me a chalkboard: Suppose this line represents time, as it would’ve occurred had you not handed her the sword. This diagonal line represents the course on which you’ve set time with that action. Let’s call it 1985A…”
Orion dude, NOT now. Seriously man, you might be wise in many things but you can be a real… erm… inappropriately nasty person at times, yeah. )_)
Seriously though, I get why he wants the chew Alex out, I do, but NOT now. Felicity’s RIGHT THERE. There’s a time and a place Orion, this isn’t it. >_>
Hopefully he’ll redeem himself next page and apologize to Felicity for being insensitive, rather than wailing on her as well for asking in the first place (though I doubt it). He can tell her it was ultimately a dangerous thing to ask or whatever, sure, and that the whole thing, regardless of potential personal gain, was a BAD IDEA in his opinion, certainly, but not like that.
Also, that green lady really is quite a cool looking character, I’m guessing she’s a very graceful/powerful woman, just a hunch but she looks that way. Very much like her fellow Elf Nastajia, actually. ^_^
Well, since the sword chose him, he’s technically not the King, but the King Designate. Dan would have been king, but got disqualified when Alex took up the sword.
FirstWhen the sword chose Alex, Dan lost his right to become king. This happens all the time in royal families. For whatever reason, the first in line to the throne is found unfit and is bypassed. Of course, we won’t know for sure until Dan sleeps while wearing the sword necklace.
Except that Dan isn’t as condescending. It seems that Orion subconsciously looks down on humans….
Alex did something out of the goodnes of his heart. The right reaction would have been: “Oh my idealistic child. That couldn’t work, You meant well, but the rules are what they are for a reason..”
That said: Like Orion, wouldn’t it be cool to be able to wear a necklace around your stomach/waist and know that it will never fall off (unless it broke of course.)
Yes exactly. That is why you should let me handle all the money. Just fill out the money order and I will see to it that everything goes to the right places.
I think Orion is probably pissed because Alex was trying, in essence, to do what Aurthur was trying to do that got old Nic and the Nightmare folks pissed off; namely BRING someone to dreamland who couldn’t come on their own for whatever reason.
orion is kind of mean to call him a foolish child, how was he suppose to know? and if it could only be used for him, orion should of said so in the first place.
Perhaps by giving the sword to Nicole and him ending up in Dreamland with it, Alex inadvertantly made two copies of the sword – one with him and one still around Nicole’s neck in the real world – and the second sword allows Nicole to view/hear what is going on in Dreamland however doesn’t actually transport her there and that’s why Orion is calling Alex a fool.
Although, this is a pretty out there theory. Guess we’ll have to wait for more pages to find out what was going through Orion’s head when he said that!
Keep up the great work Scott! I know my daughter will totally be into reading this when she gets a little older! (She’s only 7 months right now – so not quite proficient at using the computer yet 😛 )
I agree with that. Just like it’s never a good idea for parents to argue, or for one to rebuke the other, in front of a child, it is probably not a good idea to rebuke the king in the company of the populace. He should have taken him aside, or something, and kept his voice down.
Orion did handle the sword–but in Dreamland, where it’s not a problem. The problem is that, if someone from our world handles the sword and comes to Dreamland, he or she is the next ruler–and Alex would be unable to come back again.
You know, after reading the rest of the comic for the week, I really think this is unnecessarily harsh. Orion didn’t explain the rules. Alex can’t be expected to know any better.
pffft.. old grumpy..
Fool of a Took!
(sorry, couldn’t resist a LOTR reference)
Twist a-coming? 😮
Oh, Orion, come on, give it a rest! You’re starting to sound like Dan… Why are those two so overly cautious about this?
Also: the green lady in the background looks pretty. I wonder what her face looks like…
Are you just saying that because of her juicy butt-cheeks?
Well great. Now Orion’s going to turn in to Dan. Only much older, and he knows what could have happened. There goes fun Orion.
I had a feeling something like this was coming.
You have doomed us all!!!!
uh……..oh………..
Hey, didn’t HE handle the sword at one point?
Yeah, but he knew what he was doing. At times, this makes a lot of difference.
“Foolish child…This will cause a a temporal hole in the dream spacetime continuum that will shift the reality into dreams and all the world will dream when awake and will be awake when dreaming….now you have to sacrifice Nicole in order to change this!!!”
O: Foolish child?
A: Wha.. Whaat?
O: 20 push-ups NOW!
A: 1 and 2 and 3 and 4..
Maybe Felicity will shout at Alex and Orion and then run off distressed in tears?!?
That is not how we speak to His Majesty!
Hahaha… it might have something to do with that. No, but seriously…. her face just always seems to be behind other people’s heads. So it peaked my interest. That – and she’s got green hair. I have a weakness for green, as you can see from my avatar.

Now we find out what Nick was so upset about…from a different perspective.
*gleeful snort*

Wow…stuffy-no-fun Orion is stuffy and no fun…
I’m guessing he’s still pissed at having a feather stuck up his butt.
Uh oh, the wise man is about to whack him over the head with his stick. But wouldn’t that cause Alex to wake up? Avoiding the lecture to come?
He doesn’t look angry enough in the last panel.
I’m sorry, but this page totally turns me off. Poor choice.
Had Orion or ANYONE even slightly suggested that such a thing was a bad idea. How the heck is Alex supposed to know?
Orion really should say something along the lines of “Oh no! I should have warned you about that!”
I think Orion rues the day he ever took Alex under his hoof, but if Alex went through with it, never once saying saying that “the sword says this” or “someone else says that,” then surely he was never told flat out Do Not Do This. Uh-Oh, We’re In Trouble, Something’s Come Along And It’s Burst Our Bubble
Yeah, Yeah!
I think it’s more an “I thought you were smarter than that! You should’ve been able to deduce you don’t just hand other people something as important! But since you couldn’t you’re obviously still nothing but a child!”
Probably followed by an “I am aware of the hypocrisy!”
Though technically, he’s not the King; merely the king’s brother. King’s brothers rarely get a higher style than “your highness”
Meanwhile, in the real world:
“Is it just me, or are Alex’s triceps getting bigger while he sleeps?”
GREAT SCOTT!!!
“And what does that mean in English?”
“Here, give me a chalkboard: Suppose this line represents time, as it would’ve occurred had you not handed her the sword. This diagonal line represents the course on which you’ve set time with that action. Let’s call it 1985A…”
Yeah. But how could ANYONE think “Alex was smarter than that”?
How DARE you speak like that to your king!?
off with his heeead!
FOOLISH CHILD… IT ONLY WORK ON THE ROYAL FAMILY
“so… it works on my brother?”
Omg that’d be awesome 😀
make this canon, Scott! Now!
Ooooooooooooooooh Deeeeeeeeeear! Sounds like something he should have discussed with Orion first…
Does this have anything to do with the eye closed on the sword? Or giving up his control for something not vitally important?
insert dramatic gopher.
Orion dude, NOT now. Seriously man, you might be wise in many things but you can be a real… erm… inappropriately nasty person at times, yeah. )_)

Well, he did figure out how to fly in about 10 seconds
I’d say it already is!
Do you think he calls it “macaroni”?
If she didn’t want them displayed, she wouldn’t have worn that skirt.
He’s got great ears!
(“Fool of a Took!”, lol.. that’s pretty much what I thought too)
Well, since the sword chose him, he’s technically not the King, but the King Designate. Dan would have been king, but got disqualified when Alex took up the sword.
Fun Orion??? When did that happen? Someone spike his drink when they were in his village that I missed? Orion’s fun like a sunburn that nags. :p
FirstWhen the sword chose Alex, Dan lost his right to become king. This happens all the time in royal families. For whatever reason, the first in line to the throne is found unfit and is bypassed. Of course, we won’t know for sure until Dan sleeps while wearing the sword necklace.
Fun Orion was when he threw Alex off a cliff.
By your command. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8Kyi0WNg40
… in other words, you want Alex to react like Arthut did.
@Scott: Vain optimistic hope…?
Foot of a… AncientRelic, you WATCH YOUR TONGUE!
😛
The same way you do it with anybody else.
All the words in Alex’s Facebook profile were spelled correctly; therefore, Alex is smart 🙂
Except that Dan isn’t as condescending. It seems that Orion subconsciously looks down on humans….
Alex did something out of the goodnes of his heart. The right reaction would have been: “Oh my idealistic child. That couldn’t work, You meant well, but the rules are what they are for a reason..”
LOL Frank!!!
This reminds me “Back to the future” dialogue lines from Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown!
I 2nd everything said above.
That said: Like Orion, wouldn’t it be cool to be able to wear a necklace around your stomach/waist and know that it will never fall off (unless it broke of course.)
.:John Rhys Davies’ voice:. Well done, Professor Mallory!
Well played, Random
I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that’s EXACTLY what they were going for given Back to the Future’s context was 1985.
‘Santa pana, squash bananna, aang wono hawangina!”
“What does that mean?!”
“It means, you’re a baboon, and I’m not! Hehehehe!”
.:thwack!:. “OW! Would you stop hitting me with that stick?!”
I like this one better. Dramatic Gopher- with a lightsaber! 😉

You know, I didn’t notice that until you mentioned it.
“There’s a time and a place Orion, this isn’t it”

Orion: “Foolish child! Only you are supposed to use your Dreamland account! If the server admins find out, you’ll be suspended!”
She’s known a lot of disappointment over the years. Doesn’t seem her style by this point.
