It’s raining men! Hallelujah!
It’s raining men…
Oh…uh…wait.
It’s just gold, jewels, and stuff.
Stop the singing…sigh.
It’s raining men! Hallelujah!
It’s raining men…
Oh…uh…wait.
It’s just gold, jewels, and stuff.

LMAO! Oh dear! That’s a bit of a “Whoops!” there ol’ Nick! Next time you might wanna think twice about fireballing inside your own treasury. *grin*
“There was much rejoicing.”
(*yay* *yay*)
outch i got hit by a golden coin …
“It’s raining gems” perhaps 😛
Nice!
Will Astral’s mom get her necklace back or did the guard keep it for himself?
And I MUST KNOW about Alex and Nastajia before Friday! Cliffhanger week is too cruel!
You’ll see the remains…um….I mean you’ll see what happened to them on Friday.
🙂
Sorry to ruin the moment, but now that more gold is in circulation won’t prices go up? Inflation and what not, eh?
Whoo-hoo indeed! I would be happy if it rained gold coins and jewels. 😀
Never mind, for some reason I forgot about the kingdom, meaning more trade will ensue, thus stabilize and enriching the economy, carry on.
Great, now i have ‘Pennies from heaven’ stuck in my head.
not nice.
Personally, I would be in a much better mood for singing if it was raining gold and jewelry than I would be if it was raining men, so I see no need to cancel the singing, just choose a new song (or the adaptation Faranior suggested).
“YAY! I got a gold coin!!! Oh wait, it’s just a molar…”
haha, from the commoner’s point of view indeed XD while those of us here w/ the privilege of following scott’s story worry about how the war and the heroes are doing, the commoner is just like “ok.. explosion… is this good or- oooh!!! gold~~ gems~~ woohoo!! it’s good!”
Pennies from heaven!
I get this mental picture of Daffy Duck running through the crowd while screaming “Mine! Mine!”
Maybe “The sky is falling!” was also part of Dan’s plot. buahaha
That is so very cool! Only I keep hurting for the characters who’s heads got bopped by one of those shiny things. :O)
Yeah, it’s basically like hail. Only you’d want to be running around in it.I feel it’s appropriate to say “no pain no gain” 🙂
I don’t mean to criticize because you work is usually wonderful, but those gems/gold looked like plastic to me. I didn’t know what they were until I read your description below.
Oh my! They’re rich!
Girl:Oh!
Everyone:We’re rich!!!! WOO-HOO!!!!!!!
Girl:*sad face* I was hoping it was candy…..
Ya know, my first reaction was “CANDY!” not gold. lol!
I think the gold coins need some kind of design to look more realistic. They look too plain, so I guess that’s what makes them look fake.
Bah and now that I read my comment above, I sound like a bad critic! I didn’t mean to say anything…mean. 🙁
Brilliant!
sa-WEET! 😀
I think my favorite part of today’s comic is definitely the commentary beneath. ALWAYS a funny song in any circumstances. In this particular one, HILARIOUS!
Or ‘diamond rain’? Given that there actually is a form of snow known as diamond dust…
You are an evil evil person sometimes…
HADOUKEEN!!
raining men reference made me giggle in class
almost got kicked out
On Monday, I did get the impression that Alex would be carrying out a badly injured Nastajia and Felicity, but I think you just confirmed it.
Real gems would be too small to actually easily see in any detail though given the background so he had to change things up a bit.
😆
Fie! Fie on you for making a comment so close to real-world politics and economics!
😉
~LEVEL UP~
Hmmm. Now if Nick has actually survived this (and I wouldn’t be totally surprised) how is he going to pay his mercenaries?
I used to read my webcomics on a CRT screen, which has a deeper resolution (i.e., you can see more down the page) than on my current flat screen. Consequently, as the page loaded, in could only see the first two panels… And yet, just seeing that there was “stuff” in the girl’s hand, and seeing the “plink”, “tink”, “clink” sound effects of the first panel, I knew exactly what was going on. The expression on the faces of the crowd was just confirmation…
Then I read the comments, and came upon yours… which prompted me to look at the comic again. While I admit that the gold coins do look like some sort of game chips, the gems are definitely gems:
– first panel, mid air, pink one – definitely diamond shaped
– second panel, blue one on left, seen from topview – we can see some of the facets of the top
– second panel, pink one in girl’s hand – bottom view at an angle, we can again see the facets
– third panel, top right and bottom left (both pink) – the facets and the shape are clearly visible
Also, the gold rings are definitely gold rings.
The only “problem” is that of the gold coins, as mentioned previously. For that, Daisy hit the nail on the head: having some design on the gold coins (perhaps later, for the book) would help characterize them more as coins instead of some form of plastic play chips…
All in all, I thought this was pretty self-evident, and definitely well-rendered.
The question is if he ever paid them in the first place.
*singing* Pur-ple rain, pu-urple rain… oh… right, no purple.
How about… one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eaters…
…oh! Right! Wrong song again.
Is it worth risking a concussion from a gold piece to the head to collect as much treasure as I can before my neighbors get it…
Yes. Yes it is.
Yeah, I definitely thought confetti was falling at first.
Am I the only one worried about … uh … let’s call it ‘organic material’ mixed in with the precious metals?
I like it! That means we can start singing again!
*sings* It’s raining gems…Hallelujah…it’s raining gems…Amen!
hahaha, awesome!
I was thinking of the EXACT same song Scott. 😀
well…
let us just all hope that Alex discovers he has some kind of healing powers…
…
okay…
it’s raining gems… hallelujah… it’s raining gems… ow yeah eah eaaaaaaaah.
oew aaaah… lalalalalalala:p
Think helmet.
Not necessarily. There’s only so much gold in the world (or in Dreamland). Spreading it around a little isn’t likely to cause a drop in perceived value. Also, if I’m not mistaken about their previous/current economic state, this pretty much just gives them something new to trade with, meaning more flexibility.
Besides, ol’ Nic’ probably took it from them in the first place. 😉
Here comes the gold again~
Falling on my head like a memory~
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! That’s all I have to say, 😀
Sad thing is, for a second there, I thought Astral caught Kiwi, because the gems she has in her hand has Kiwi’s color scheme.
Not to be devils advocate but wouldn’t the gems melt in the explosion?
“now say, Money should be faling from the sky! Say it! Say it!” 😉
Or whatever’s left of Nicodemus. He’s the only thing up there that could’ve exploded. Burning alone it not enough to make a boom. You need something to keep pressure rising. Something firm enough. Like, say, a dragon’s hide.
I must agree the gold coins don’t look much like gold.
The problem is they are not shiny, i.e. no reflections.
If I remember correctly, there has been a similar problem with King Arthur’s crown and jewels (http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/chapter-15/page-1101/).
I start thinking the settings Scott uses to render gold are strange… not reflecting enough. While for example Alex armor instead *is* shiny and reflecting, and does not show this problem.
The group shot in this one looks really bad to me for some reason. I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but I am leaning towards kind of like lifeless, motionless action figures without proper contrast or shading.
at first i thought it was raining skittles lol XD but no, it is just nic’s treasure.
And then it turn into nightmare , because people begin to fight to get all gems and gold.
Yep, even in dreamland people could be greedy.
Hes a dragon. Nicodemus has some form of magic and either he just ‘voltorbed’ himself to try to take out everybody, or he set off an explosive fireball spell and will be flying away. I was hoping the elf [princess, queen whatever status] would have loosed a quick arrow to nicks head before he could talk his way into implosion…
There is a little bit of shading, but one must remember that shadows are not as harsh and well defined when it’s raining.
lol i second that awesome
teehee i thought that too 😛
Ice is less dense than water. Gold has a higher density then lead. A coin would be likely to slice through the air edge first. Maybe you could use the coin to pay the doctor who extracts it.
Coins and edible rations.
No. Shatter maybe. If you do not believe me you can try “melting” a brown glass beer bottle. Wear safety gear (goggles, face shield, thick fire retardant clothes etc) and be ready to put out any fires lit by hot shards of flying glass. Or maybe you should not try that.
The gold could melt but it probably was not in the flames long enough.
think turn the umbrella inside out. 😉
Hey guys…
Lots of smoke and flame in Thursday’s page.
Will work on it more in the morning and should have the page uploaded before noon.
🙂
Most likely there would be some inflation, but also a large economic expansion – viewed in the right light, Nic just suddenly increased the money supply, much like the Fed does when it prints more dollars.
We love you, Scott!!!
Somehow I don’t see “it’s raining jewels” turning into “it’s raining bits of Nicodemus.” In all of dragon history I think it would be the ultimate FAIL to implode yourself with your own fireball.
I’m surprised nobody got KO’d by so much gold and jewels 🙂
Taste the Rainbow!
😉
That’s what you get for reading comics in class.
ewwww :S
Interesting point.. this day in age in the USA people would sue for damages.
You’ve obviously never seen the weird movements a coin makes when dropped or thrown in water. I think it’ll do pretty much the same in air, only slower since air has less resistance.
I am afraid if Scott would render all pieces of gold and jewelry with appropriate reflection, scattering, occlusion and what not, his rig would ‘asplode like Nic’s tower.
Either that, or would be churning away for days.
IMHO it is pretty clear it is raining precious stones and gold pieces. Too detailed gold coins would also look odd in the way dreamland’s art works.
At last Nic’s riches go to those that deserve it… Only problem will be an explosion of tourism..towns people being filthy rich and all.. 😆
To me they look stunned and baffled. Not “lifeless”
its raining treasure why cant that happen in the real world!
I can imagine Nicodemus with a wide eyed look on his face, then he’ll run into the next room and have a good cry!!!
Is Astral and her mom the same species as Felicity,a cat person?
You know, I thought of that immediately upon seeing it, before I even saw Scott’s attempt. Bah on you and your earlier reading!
You MEANT to say “It REMAINS to be SEEN”.
Wai–HALT! Desist! Citizens! Keep in mind that not all that glitters is gold! NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS
… Oh, what the heck. Someone get me a wheelbarrow, a shovel, and a blunt cudgel.
Que Carole Chaning…. “An exploded dragon, may be quite the ending, but diamonds are a girl’s best friend…”
I sometimes wonder if Nic isn’t going to disappear quite yet. There are still many, many pages to write….
I wonder whether barbecued dragon would be considered a delicacy. Oops – wrong forum – I watched too much ‘Bizarre Foods’ on the Travel Channel last night.
That’s kind of like saying it will do the same thing in syrup, only slower. Using your logic, that is, seeing that syrup is thicker than water, but we know that it would sink slowly and without much movement. In reality, a coin traveling through the air will travel along it’s parabolic path as dictated by gravity. Here is a link.

I’m guessing it would really depend more on those providing service to be responsible and not try to take advantage of the situation at hand.
Cool
also the site was down last night for me, was it for any of you?
Of course, these are Dreamland gems we’re considering–not quite the same as real gems…
Actually, Mythbusters disproved that a coin falling from a height can stick in you (especially into your skull). It can sting if moving fast enough, maybe draw blood, but if a modern coin can’t (pennies are officially 3 on Moh’s scale, and other coins are comparable, gold is 2.5, but gold coins aren’t solid gold, but the base metals it’s mixed with aren’t usually above a 4, meaning it’s way softer than glass [5]). Forget the coins, I’m worried about the diamonds [10], rubies [9] and the sapphires [9] clearly pictured! Those could make a nasty bruise! 😉 (Really, terminal velocity isn’t enough for that size gems to be much worse than hail, and as was said, coins wobble when they fall, at least a little)
Besides, Alex has inspired all of Dreamland to be hard-headed, so they’re good.
Actually, Nyerguds and AgnieszkaZosia have it right; terminal velocity for a falling coin is always MUCH slower than the velocity that would be required for it to do serious, life-threatening damage.
Your link is good physics, as far as it goes, but as it says on the fifth line of the first paragraph: “We will not consider air resistance.” Without considering air resistance, a feather will fall at the same rate as a marble, or a cannonball. Or a coin.
Hah. In this case, they’d just “collect” the damages…
Tax refund time in Dreamland.
Rupee noise from Zelda…
