so, anybody good at jigsaw puzzles?
“Nic” didn’t say that the ruble poured on the floor was the tablet. I guess I’m parsing the words but I don’t trust the dragon.
Does Alex have some CSI kit to verify the rubble is in fact the tablets?
lol
NOOOOOOOO!
Okay, NOW Alex can pull out his sword!
Grab the glue gun…
There’s got to be a plan inside the plan. Why would Daniel believe Nic’s gonna leave the last piece of evidence intact, especially having reasons to expect it to be still important?
It turns out Nicodemus is a great diplomat himself.
diplomacy is saying “nice doggy” while searching behind you for a housebrick to bash in the head of the slavering hound dripping blood from its fangs…
Argh nooo!
Though it *might* be a trick…hmm…
Good point. Nic didn’t say “This is the tablet” and even if he did, it could be a lie.
It looks a bit too… clothy to be a tablet to me.
Of course…
I was thinking it looked like the tablet was made out of Lego blocks. Which in this case would be pretty convenient.
The crocodile should take advantage of their surprise and bash them both over the heads with the pot.
Sometimes I wish Dreamland were more dreamy and perhaps closer to the movies like the Matrix or Inception or some of the magical fairy lands in tales of yore.
Because wouldn’t it be cool if Alex could shape aspects of Dreamland to his will like he was lucidly dreaming. Yes, it’d take lots of training and discipline.
So in this case since all the pieces of the tablet are in that pile Alex could use his mind to simply put it back together again.
ow… this must sound very, very, very, very, very stupid… but what where the tablets again…? i’ve completely forgotten what they did… sorry…
furthermore… great pages Scott! this war is getting so cool! as cool as a war can be…:s
Now who didn’t see that coming? Despite what some people want to believe Nic isn’t dumb. He saw the amulet glowing when he put it in the treasure room and once he found out why the amulet was glowing it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that there was a tablet nearby. Besides he had the amulet for a little bit before it was destroyed so he could have gone back to the treasure room and found it. Now Nic is being way too pleasant here so I wonder what he’s up to.
If this is the remains of the tablet, it’s seen better days.
OTOH, I don’t think that stone burns very easily, which makes me wonder.
Gripping hand: If it once was the tablet, we may be spared another rendition of a Double Dutch ditty.
Hey: maybe that’s why Nicodemus set out to destroy all the tablets: He tried to jump rope once, and got terribly, nearly fatally tangled up…
I say that is indeed the tablet, but knowing our lovely Nic, he wouldn’t destroy such a powerful artifact for no reason. I’m willing to bet he has a copy hidden in the castle somewhere maybe.
gasp
Aw phooey….
Lies, perhaps?
Called it. π
You know, I been thinkin’. Paddington’s a big ol’ boy. This would be a great time for him to take Nastajia’s advice and loft one of those rocks clear up to the tower and right through that side door. I can just see Alex yelling “Incoming!” C’mon, you know you wanna. π
Omg what a freaking douchebag
i can so see the David, or its that rock paddington just threw and missed the wall with
ffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu……………..
of course, nic could make them think that is the tablet.
JJEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I bet he gonna say “If you want to know what the tablet says, hand over the sword.” Or something.
The tablets contain the recorded history of Dreamland – thus they describe why Nick was never meant to be king and is a usurper in the king’s place.
That pile seems to lack sufficient quantity to be a tablet.
That’s not the tablet. The tablets are stone..stone can be melted, crushed etc. but not burned to charcoal (seeing as the pile is still smoking) Only if it were baked clay, would it be “burnable” and even then.
There’s something up. Ol’Nic seems to be bluffing. If he can convince Alex to stop looking for it by a bit of sleigh of hand…
The tablets reeeealy seem to upset Nicodemus.
But it does make sense for Nic to destroy it, no matter how you look at it. He had the bracelet, he knew where the tablet was, he also knows that the tablets are a threat to his place on the throne because they preserve the truth for generations to come. True, we don’t know if that’s the tablet or not, but it would make sense if it was.
I agree with you generally. As for the special powers: it would be a cool thing to be able to do, especially in a situation like this – but the problem with the Matrix for example was that Neo just became too powerful after the first movie (almost like a God complex). It just wouldn’t make the story as interesting if Alex and his friends didn’t become the victims from time to time. The loss they feel is only strengthened through their total and complete inability to change the situation. Very much like some situations in real life…
I agree. The rubble looks fishy but what possible reason could Nick have for keeping the tablet intact and safe? The tablets were made against his will, they are proof that he unlawfully took the throne, and they are a great rallying cry to restore Dreamland to the old ways.
He’s gloating… not only does he want to win, but he wants to humiliate his opponent at the same time. Make him lose face, lose confidence in himself.
Perhaps he is thinking that, should Alex, by some stroke of luck, escape from his grip, having him knocked down a peg or two may just be the thing to take the wind out of the opposing army’s sails.
Considering that the tablets constitute incriminating evidence against him, and that they basically tell what only he remembers actually happened, he has no need to keep a copy of it anywhere where someone may find it and read it later. It’s to his advantage, as re-writer of history, to make sure none of the tablets, original or otherwise, exist.
Ah, but that is assuming that this particular tablet was also carved in stone (and large) … It’s not because two of them on a cave wall, that all of them will be made of stone…
Page 865 shows us where the centaurs’ tablet was kept, and it certainly was not very big… True, we never actually saw the tablet, even as Nic destroyed it (pages 1117 and on), but the stuff around it sure burned a while… So who knows what this tablet was made of, how big it was, or just how combustible it was…
I think this is more of a gloat on Nic’s part than anything else. Even villains can tell the truth, when it’s convenient to them… Want the tablet? Here it is! Have fun trying to decipher it… Mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha!
What would be the point of hiding the fact that he is a usurper now? Everybody already knows (hence the giant army of dreamlanders outside his castle). On that note, why do the heroes need all of the tablets? Why can’t they just use one or two to convince the rest of dreamland?
“There is no tablet.”
π
Crud, I just upped my guessing stats by 100%… π
Dang, I had such a streak!
Just saying that he might not have even found the tablet yet. He probably did, but we don’t know for sure.
Ashes, ashes.
Bones of a certain lost elven king and queen…
Oh, crap… can anyone remind me why they need tablets?
OMG flippin awesome
Perhaps to keep Nick’s attention on them, so he’s not roasting armies of elves and fairies …
π
*Identify Spell*
-No… its not the tablet
-When did you suddenly become a spell-caster?
-Your mother asked me the same question last night Nic..
π
Yep, that was the point of my comment, too. π – We don’t know if this is the tablet. But we’ll see.
Wait, what?
Is Nastaljia pronounced like nostalgia? Because that would be awesome.
I vaguely remember something to do with either avenging Nastaljia’s parents or finding them… something about proving Alex is the true king… hmmmm According to one of the comments up there, the underwater one carved in the cave is on page 865. ima go see what it says
whoops misread
ok Nastaljia’s parents disappeared
I think it might also be out of habit to. Remember he was the adviser before he became king , so he’s had lots of practice.
Hi all!
I think I’d like to experiment with updating in the mornings each day. Rather than at midnight.
I kind of enjoyed the extra time in the morning to get the pages done rather than rushing the night before.
Is that okay with you all?
Sure! Personally, I don’t mind. π
Actually, given the right circumstances, even stone can burn. Also, if he blasted it with fire to weaken it, he could have then crushed it into charred powder. If that were the case, then what you see isn’t smoke, but rather stone dust rising up as it is pointed out.
Others commented on the size, but it might not be poured out all the way, and when things are burned/crushed they take up much less space.
If that’s really what I think it is, then… that was just kinda uncalled for.
Of course, over here in Europe we’ll get it to show about after work (17:00) then. Nice thing to look forward to after a working day with my afternoon coffee at hand..
So ,go ahead. I don’t mind at all.
Her name’s Nastajia; no ‘L’ …
Okay by me; I typically don’t read it until the following morning anyway, if not later …
π
I just LOVE the way that crocodile henchman composes himself!
Nicodemus: “Where’s your precious history now, huma…”
Felicity: “Fixed it!”
Nicodemus: “WHAT?!”
Felicity: “I’m not only good at picking locks, but you should see me with jigsaw puzzles!”
Showing them the destroyed tablet. That’s low. About the same level as boobytrapping the stalemate button. Seriously, who does that?
Where is Crazy Diamond when you need it?
