Yup, never snick up on Merlin.
Woo hoo, merlin in action.. wait, that means he stopped the spell. Oops.
And they struck just as the completed amulet arrives in Dreamland… Possibly starting to back up the theories that they took the thing.
Wondering if this will be the first, and probably only, time that we see a little goriness in TDC too β if the centaur was not as spry as Merlin was…
Who’s going to say it?
YOOOOU SHALL NOT PAASSSSS!!!
oh merlins bring the heat… and i think that he knew that they was going to do that, so this means that the problem was on the centaur end or was it both sides
Well, that’s arthur trapped, unless merlin can catch the spell.
Though…that explains why nick can’t get in to Dreamland. Arthur isn’t dead, hes just trapped between worlds, and can’t go the real world anyway cos he hasn’t got a body
Bahahaha. Go Merlin!
That image… Seth, you hit dead on, this is so Gandalf-ish, it’s simply hilarious. Them Nightmares bit more than they could chew with old Merlin! Lighting effects are really good!
That is seriously one of THE best scenes I have seen in all of the Dreamland Chronicles. This is on par with our plucky hero charging the misunderstood villain. I want this scene as a wallpaper. π
Is it me or is the light effect a) very cool b) making Arthur look like he’s drawn rather than rendered?
I bet that after the following scene, Merlin will have to spend half an hour in the bathroom, recombing his stylish beard because he’s about to open a can of … <– enter your own appropriate wording here.
Merlin: “Stimpy you eediot”
for some reason Merlin here reminds me of Ocelot, of metal gear fame:
http://scawley.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/ocelot.jpg
I am more interested in how the hell they could go to the “real” world.
If it is not a one way street to dreamland it could spell trouble in the future for Alex.
Arthur still has a body, as on one episode of Gargoyles where they are in Avalon, they find Arthur’s still living body entombed and in a magical hibernation sleep thing π
The wraiths may originate in the real world and travel to the nightmare realm.
Fascinating!
So Wraiths are able to project themselves in the wakeworld not only as “ghosts” but in “real flesh”.
They are also capable of bringing with them weapons.
That means that the Twins maybe are in trouble.
Also:
Even though i was not convinced that Merlin was not capable to understand the presence of Wraiths, i am surprised with the last panel.
That means that Merlin was aware of the Wraiths?
He lied to Arthur when he told on panel 1117 that he don’t know about Dreamland?
He was aware of the Wraith presence when he was discussing the “hiding place” issue with Arthur?
Then why he didn’t informed him?
Gee….
I LIKE this story!!!!
he didn’t know about Dreamland, but the wraiths are of the nightmare realm are they not?
Also Wraiths might be in popular legend, I’m sure if it was a dragon behind him he mights say “Begone dragon”.
That being said I LOVE the effects in the last panel, the beams of magic without being obvious. Awesome. Also the ‘all knowing/seeing’ eyes in the third panel. Merlin is all “Yeah I know you are there… take that *ZAP*”
Merlin kicks ass in ANY universe. There’s a REASON his is one of the legendary names.
Which alas means that our poor Centaur friend is gonna have to take the hit for the team.
As implied previously, the Nightmare Realm apparently KNOWS how to do the transfer already. Which as others have noted spells potential Bad Sh*t for Alex and Friends. Especially if they can work that mojo for Nicky (though I’m not sure even Nicodemus wants to learn the meaning of things like “rocket launcher”).
I’ll second that wallpaper comment. π No one but no one can catch Merlin off guard.
Ooo…you have a point there. π I’m okay with that though. I like Ocelot.
Yay Wiki-knowledge!
Well, according to our friends at Wikipedia, ‘wraith’ is just a Scottish dialectal for ghost or spirit…and ghosts/spirits are things that most people would be able to recognize…especially someone as magical and nifty-cool as Merlin.
(Please let my fledgling attempt at linkage work…)
Love the bottom two panels. This one is truly poster-worthy! Great stuff as always!
This just goes to show; if you’re going to assassinate someone, use a crossbow.
excellent effect on the staff!
i’m very excited for the next few pages!
Suddenly old Nic looks like a victim of circumstance. I wonder if the reason Nic called the sword evil is because he blames it for Aurthur’s being stuck between worlds. That takes Nic from being the evil usurper, to miss guide loyal servant of the realm.
Uh, wow. Killer looking Wraiths! Or maybe just good lighting? XD
That last panel is made of awesome.
Keep in mind that eh Centaur is a “shaman” who also has just about as much power as Merlin. Hopefully, he has eye’s int he back of his head or, that periphiel vision, as Merlin!
YOU …
SHALL NOT …
… forget to VOTE!

Merlin has spoken …
I believe you mean Dan, Alex’s brother. Nick would be Nicodemus, the dragon, villain of the story thus far.
Diddit! XD
In the Comments on the previous page Scott says:
“Thatβs their special talent. They can go between worlds.”
Looks like the Sword of Kings and the little pouch thingie aren’t the only things that can cross over between the two worlds anymore.
So… even in defeat, they stopped the incantation which trapped Arthur! YIKES!
Since the wraiths can come between the two worlds, are they responsible for adult nightmares? I have a bone to pick with them if so.
Last Panel = GREAT COLORS !!!!
Okay. Shouldn’t be surprised at Merlin catching that one. But what will the true consequences be?…
SCOTT … NOT SURE IF THE PROJECT WONDERFUL AD for “WAYWARD SONS LEDGENDS” is what you want here on your site. I dont think a naked lady with hair covering up her Privates is really All Ages Stuff. Just an FYI
You might want to check on that.
That’ll leave a mark…
Yeah, that one is a little risque.
Also, the Cellular South ad doesn’t work (goes to a “403 – Forbidden” page).
Actually, if you think about it, it stands to reason that the Wraiths’ ability to cross between worlds probably predates that of the Sword of Kings, and almost certainly predates the Bahta Alikchi (which is a very recent creation at this point in the flashback).
Hmm … this makes me wonder if the Wraiths might have been involved in the creation of the Sword of Kings …
π
Merlin would just blast the bolt out of the air while finishing the spell. He would have enough time to finish it while the wraiths reloaded the cross bow. Long bow would be a little bit more difficult to ignore because you can reload it about 20 times faster than a cross bow. A cross bow may be able to punch a hole in armor, but its slow to reload. A normal bow may not be able to put a hole in armor, but it can put a nice hole through an old man in robes if they do not know magic on par with Merlin.
Its safe to reason that they are. Opens up a whole new set of worries in mythological terms. It may also explain why parents are some times overly protective (evolved wraith perception ability?). Either way though, its safe to say that wraiths are to blame for some of the problems on this side of Dreamland.
Thanks guys.
Benny emailed me in advance and showed me what he was planning on posting.
I thought it was very classy.
I wasn’t offended by the art. And hope no one else is.
Maybe we will see in the next pages that the Centaur kicks the Wraiths with his back feet!
Anyway the incantation process is interrupted…so the consequences are…???
I’m not offended, but, then again, I am European, did 2 years academy of fine arts. I’ve seen more nekkidness then You can shake a stick at.
On the comic; Wow..Merlin is one bad #$$ mo’ I guess the wraths hadn’t counted on him snigging them out..
*sniffing them out. (oops)
If human spirits (at least of children, plus the King as the sole adult) can cross between worlds, why not wraiths? There must have been some crossover between worlds, or else they would never have been entangled. The Sword and pouch, plus wraiths and children, are just the expression of that entangling.
Sorry, TekServer, but whenever I get to your post, I can’t vote (anymore). . . .
Wait… What happened to the dagger…ish…thing?
Well maybe Merlin didnβt mess- up the magic incantation thingy. Maybe there are just random lines like βDie dragon, be gone wrathsβ in there just for extra security.
Now THAT’S what I’m talking about. π
Scott you make me SO proud now… I reaaally vouch for a wallpaper of this thingie here.
well it takes a lot to offend me…. and the art in the ad doesn’t, I am just not sure that it fits the All Ages profile of Dreamland Chronicles where Kids of All Ages (5 to 105) can come for fun adventure …. just my 2 cents.
That’s why you have to use not a crossbow, but a catapult.
A catapult loaded with a flaming combine, driven by the reanimated corpse of Genghis Kahn… who is also on fire and very irritated. π
that would explain many of the legends of things like boogeymen and stuff in the real world, would it?
EPIC lighting. It’s gorgeous! The eye zoom-in is great as well. I will be waiting to see what happens to the poor centaur and King Arther.
Thank you all!
One panel from Wednesday’s page is taking a bit longer to render. So rather than stay up till 2am for it to finish…I’m going to grab it in the morning and upload.
So there will be about a 6 hour delay in Wednesday’s page.
My apologies.
Honestly, I wasn’t offended either – in fact, I didn’t even really notice until TedRX said something.
But then, I work in IT; I’ve cleaned porn off of other people’s computers that just makes you ask, “why?” (And almost every one of them claims they have no idea how it got there … )
But in all seriousness, Scott, your standards are probably stricter than most of ours (I, for one, don’t have children of my own to cause my brain to activate automatic filters), so if it’s okay with you, it’s okay with me.
π
Huh. Link seems to work, unless you’re logging on from somewhere (i.e. work) that has a content filter and may be blocking TWC.
Oh, wait; are you saying that you’ve already long since voted by the time you read my reminder? If so, then ignore this …
π
The only thing that is offending me is that I have no idea what anyone is talking about.
Y’know, considering so many people think science and magic are completely incompatible, it seems very likely that they applied the scientific method to figure out how to construct that amulet. =P And that’s cool.
Alternate Merlin responses:
I *AM* the boomstick!
Taste the rainbow!
Can you feel the love tonight?!
Have some glowy!
Would you like fries with your whoopin’?
Red bull gives you more than wings!
Spooooooooon!
What is the transposition of his spell here?
Meh.
There is an ad for “Wayward Sons” next to Scott’s author post. One of the images in that ad is of a woman emerging from water with some implied nudity (shows about as much skin as a bikini).
Nothing to be concerned about.
Personally, I prefer the ads “WS” was using a week or so ago with lightning charged women (think Storm of the X-men). One of those got me to click. The actual Wayward Sons webcomic is a reimagining of the — nevermind, that would be a spoiler…
YES! XD Gargoyles is awesome.
If you use an Ad-blocker, try turning it off temporarily.
Then click madly on all the ads you see, of course, so Scott can make a few extra pennies …
π
Merlin’s so bad@$$
“Hah! Pwnt!”
AWESOME!
If only Merlin had anticipated this by included the phrase ‘Begone, Wraiths!’ in the chant…
