Page 1103…
Hi all!
So sorry for the “no show” yesterday.
I literally just finished with the render for this page now (it’s midnight Wednesday Morning).
Don’t know why this scene got so big. But it did. And just coming home late Sunday night didn’t leave the computers enough time to render Tuesday’s page in time.
Needless to say…I greatly appreciate your patience with my first time in 4 years missing a scheduledΒ update. Ugh.
On the plus side…I didn’t kill myself worrying about it. I think I’m growing up a bit.
π
I hope this will be the last time. But one never knows.
Thank you again…and hope to see you tomorrow with the continuation of this storyline.
Scott
Just how far ahead do you normally have to start, in order to render on time?
Merlin and Arthur kick butt, Camelot style, or
How to defend king and country.
Perhaps because you have so many characters in the shot to render, including all the one’s outside the frame. A renderer will render the full character before clipping it. And this is busy!
Agreed. This is about the busiest piece I have seen. This must have taken forever.
As the bowman goes down the scorecard reads
Home-team:”Arthur’ Anointed” – 1
Visitors:”Amateur Assassins” – 0
No sweat, we have to without a new episode every weekend anyway:)
It is great it is finished now.
Thank you for working so hard!!
Cue Guile Theme. π
Hey. First time poster. Love the work you do for this comic, man! And quite frankly, you’re one of the few out there who doesn’t miss updates, and considering how differently your comic is made compared to your conventional comic, it’s even more impressive! So you missed a day, Life happens, we all make mistakes, you gotta get right back on that horse, patience is a virtue, etc., etc., blah blah blah. The world keeps spinning, the story keeps going, and you didn’t kill yourself over it, everybody wins XD
Arthur: “There can be only one!”
Merlin: “Say, have my ears gotten pointier?”
Looking at it again, I am impressed by how each level of the castle, being further back than the level below, is progressively more out of focus/fuzzy. How’s THAT, for detail-oriented!
Scott, don’t worry so much. You are doing far too much as it is, but what you do is thoroughly appreciated! You are truly a fabulous artist and your sword should be ready sometime in the next few weeks. No, I haven’t forgoten. You have earned it good Sir.
Thank you for all of your efforts. It is good to see an artist that puts so much care and love into their work as you. Which means you, by golly, are allowed to miss deadlines and the like. And again I thank you for inspiring others.
Huzzah!
No worries Scott.
But I know why it took so long to render. It was due to the sheer awesomness of the scene. It is not easy for a computer to render awesome into a scene. π
scott, i’m a patient person who is willing to wait for something that cool. ^^
Now, listen. Listen carefully: It gonna happen again. you know not in advance, what surprises stalk your path. Stuff happens. LIke fellers giving birth. LIke parties. Like fellers getting ill. stuff like that. I just think of that injury of yours, which has given you such a hard time. SO: no sweats, ok? Life hands out them cards. one can’t do naught but deal with em.^^
stay safe & keep it up.
Oooo…I bet this one would be a lovely print…*ponders bank account balance*
Oooh, This page is cover worthy! Great job, I see why it took so long π
O.o loove battle sceens!
Maybe too layers to render?
Ah! Congratulations for this great scene! It’s worth waiting! By the way, lake_wrangler mentioned the “progressively more out of focus/fuzzy” thing… It’s almost a 3D panel.
And don’t worry about beiang lately. Fans do wait!
Welcome, fellow Dreamer!
We’re always glad to see another fan who appreciates Scott’s amazing work ethic. Don’t forget to head over to TWC and VOTE!
You’re making Scott a sword? Are we talking full size, or necklace, or somewhere in between?
Either way, very cool!
I usually like to be 2 weeks ahead.
Epic battle ensues…
π
Thank you.
And welcome.
Thank you so much.
Can’t wait.
π
That’s true. Computers have trouble with awesome.
π
YEEE=HAAAAH!! They’s a rip snorting fight goin’ on!! GITTIM ARTHUR!!
I’m with Tek on this. I want details. And PICTURES, Scott.
Just noticed, because of the two blogs on monday and tuesday, the same comic page is coming up twice in a row for those two days. Not a big deal really for the most part, but figured it might be good to mention so it doesn’t accidently get printed twice when making the book or something.
Ah, today Arthur’s sword looks longer. Good.
wow this must took for ever to render.
with all the characters, poses and gear, swords i can imagine this took awhile to render
but sure looks sweet
great shot man. All we need is for merlin to shout “YOU SHALL NOT PASS ************!!!” sorry that was just to much fanboyness for one comment
E-Type: “CAMPIONE!”

It’s a bit nit-picky, but are we to assume that Arthur is carrying a normal sword rather than Excalibur during this scene? It looks far too simple to be the legendary blade.
Take it easy Scott!!! Remember that you only just recently overworked yourself.
We will wait for your miracles to happen, so go easy on yourself, will you.
(If you don’t, I sure hope you have escrowed the rest of the story… )
If you need a week off, go ahead!
Yes. I didn’t want to get into the Excalibur mythology. I have enough plates to spin here.
π
fight!
worth the wait!!
You were not late. You did not miss a day. You were observing Memorial Day. π
Of course! Merlin is Ramirez.
It all makes sense now. Any second Arthur is going to say “I’m Arthur Mccloud, of clan McCloud
You know, I have to wonder about render times. I’ve only dabbled in 3D CG art myself, but enough to know how long it can take to render even a seemingly simple scene. I can’t help but wonder exactly what it is that makes it take so long, when even hardware several years out of date can render dozens of seemingly photoreal frames every second in videogames? I don’t know if I’m really cut out for this, sometimes it’s a bit discouraging that it takes hours for me to render a scene that looks like crap, while the exact same hardware can shit out images that look vastly better literally faster than you can see them. Yeah, I know that hundreds of professionals spend years to get these results, but the sheer magnitude of the gulf is rather depressing at times.
Jeez, what a wall of text. Suffice to say that it’s truly impressive how you are willing to spend the time to give the best quality rather than taking shortcuts. People might not have noticed if the DoF, say, was absent, but you can sure tell that it’s there. Does that make any sense?
