Page 1052…
Happy Monday all!
I hope you had a great weekend.
I had a side project for a friend’s game company I had to help out on. So I wasn’t able to get a new vote incentive.
So please don’t hate me for another day of Camelot by Stefano.
Other than that…
We have a couple more PSP issues up.
Thanks and hope you enjoy this weeks pages!
Scott
first comment! It’s about time those two get together!
So sweet… and apparently, still in that awkward first stage…
Nicely conveyed, Scott!
finally!! we can see the development between these two.
about time scott, now for the distress… and why do i get the sinking feeling that she may be related to the person who is nic in dreamland but not a close family memeber
“Is this gonna be a kissing book?”
Nice setup, and no, I couldn’t help the quote. Kudos to those that recognize it though.
Good setup
“Princess Bride”
Awww
Daaaaaaaaaaaw!!!! About time 🙂 I love how you conveyed the slightly awkward slightly lovey dovey first date phase. Brings back memories haha.
Great page! I’m curious as to who took who’s hand there…from the angle it looks like Daniel took Nicole’s hand, but I could be wrong. In any case, looking forward to Danny finding a little romance of his own! Keep up the great work!
And here comes Alex to ruin the momment…
Oh, puh-lease! One need only look at the comments over the years, or the one particular thread in the forum, to realize that the readership of The Dreamland Chronicles is more than familiar with the Princess Bride… 😛
dawh sooo cute!…as my gf would probably make me say xD lol. nah this is awesome all this time. we waited. wondering if they were going to get to this point and wallah it happens! :3 scott you are my favorite comic book writer. just so you know. ^.^ i look to be able to tell a story sooo well.
I think it’s cute the way they both look over their glasses to look into each other’s eyes.
See this is why Dan does not dream, he’s the super-nerd. Nicole is probably super-nerd too, but was not born that way. Super-nerds are possessed of some REALLY messed up dreams and fantasies. In the bedroom they need an array of props that make Universal Studios look like a hobo’s closet. So in the end, Dan could not go to Dreamland because it would warp the fabric of time and space and destroy existence.
It would be a very high budget and sexy end to all things with impeccable details, but an end to all things nonetheless.
*chuckle* I just started reading the comic/comments about a week or two ago, and I havent even looked at the forums yet. Besides, its my favorite movie.
Nicole is even more bold than she realizes. She “takes” Dans hand, she doesn’t slip her hand in his from underneath.
Put it this way: it is my experience so far that, given the cult following of that particular movie, people on the internet fall into two categories: those rare few who have never heard of it, and those who love it to death!
Daniel’s hand looks way pasty in that shot though, us nerds should work outside sometimes. 😉
Also, I could look at Camelot every day Scott, it’s a fine vote incentive for me!
Just what I was thinking.
And of course he’ll probably also forget to warn Dan that Nicodemus knows about him, as Orion told him to – worried about Nastajia as he is.
Isn’t it the other way around? That would make Dan more bold than we have previously thought, though. 🙂
Cue Alex to botch it up and save them both. It will happen if Scott wants to save there whole love story for a later chapter. If he doesn’t, then cue Alex running up, seeing the situation and running back to the dorm room. Either way I will most likely be right.
They’re holding hands..
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! .-.. — …- . .At last
I’m sorry… but the timing seems a little convenient here… and I just got to thinking how much Nicole and Nicodemus are similar in names. As much as I want Dan to be happy, I can’t help but have this feeling of foreboding…
Of course, there’s the whole Felicity thing as well… man, Scott… I’m sensing a lot of plots interweaving on themselves and only the master storyteller will be able to untangle them for us. AGH! I don’t know what to think!
Pretty smoothe reaction Daniel. She takes your hand and then you go with it and manage to bring the words love affair into the conversation. Nice.
Crap. Am I THAT predictable?
You have excellent taste in movies Raidur.
🙂
Aw. Thank you!
Good Morning all!
So glad you’re enjoying the page.
I had assumed Nicole’s expression yesterday with her hands open bumped hands with Dan. And I don’t know which one grabbed which’s hand. But they did.
I knew it was coming!!!
Agreeing with the comment by SilentMech – Alex is going to be a major interruptus on the budding romance.
Very cute, really enjoying the story telling!
Haha yay! Things are new and awkward! So Cuuute!
Scott, you do have to factor in the fact that we had three days to think about this… where the book reader won’t. so I wouldn’t worry too much!
That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Besides, we’re mostly adults, and have had months or years (depending on how long each of us has been reading) to digest each and every nuance of each and every panel, analyze it carefully, and discuss it in the comments.
Kids reading this in print form for the first time probably won’t have a clue where this is leading.
Either way, it’s top notch entertainment!
Wait, there are people who have never heard of “The Princess Bride”!? Inconceivable!©
😉
Your “.-.. — …- .” kind of all ran together a bit, but I managed to pull it apart and translate it (gotta love auto-formatting … ).
😉
Is it weird that I was fascinated by the texture of the fabric on their clothes in the first pane, on the close-up of them holding hands?
😉
First of all it really doesn’t matter… but IMHO it was Nichole, she a strong woman that goes after what she wants and frankly, at this point, Dan give off the impression that he is the shy type… at least around women.
Just need to muse/vent a bit on the voting …
I can’t help but wonder how Dreamland can’t seem to pass TwoKinds in the TWC listings. I mean, don’t get me wrong – I’ve read TwoKinds; I archive binged it a month or two ago, and I follow the new updates as they come out. It’s a decent strip, with a fair story and good art. And cat-girls, which I’m sure is what draws most of its fan-base.
But TwoKinds has only updated 3 times this month. And while it probably has a forum somewhere, it doesn’t even have a comment section under the strip, to encourage the posting of “first impression” thoughts and encourage community, as we do here. So how is it staying consistently 1000 to 2000 votes ahead of Dreamland?
Must be the catgirl-furry thing …
😉
(Okay, I’m done now … )
agreed, that alex is about to come bounding in to interrupt is obvious and predictable to us, the adult readers, but likely not to the target young readers for this comic. further, it’s a sign that that’s the right formula.
i also agree with tekserver – how in the world is twokinds beating out dreamland? unreal.
That was so great!
Oh hey now, that’s not fair, TekServer. 🙂
I’m sixteen and within the few minutes I caught up on the story I thought the same thing SilentMech did.
Maybe this comment doesn’t sound the way it should and goodness knows I’m not the best at explaining myself, but this is meant to be a boost.
You’re not predictable all the time Scott, but when it comes to romance, it’s usually very hard to be creative about it though so far you (and anybody working with you) have done a wonderful job.
Romance is tough and there’s no exception, not even in Casablanca, then again, that movie was predictable from the first scene. 😀
I’ve often wondered about this as well.
I’ve advertised on the site…and the page views are nothing like what we get here.
Add to that the update schedule and the rarity of vote incentives…it doesn’t make sense.
If I was a conspiracy theorist…I’d suggest foul play. But I don’t claim to know how everything works. All I can do is enjoy working on Dreamland and be content with that.
Oh great. I’m not fooling ANYONE!
Wow! Nice observation! 😉
You guys know I’m having fun with you all. I do know how predictable some of this is.
It’s fun. It’s cute. And it’s a part of growing up.
I still remember holding Donna’s hand for the first time. The first kiss. It’s what makes life memorable.
I made that same comment a few months ago! I don’t get it. I mean I like the strip, but for not updating in any regular way… My guess is that it’s the fan base… I bet there are a lot more computer geeks (and I say that with respect as I consider myself one) than here who probably set up some auto-voting script. 😛
(With my limited knowledge of voting sites) The only thing I can think of, would be access to a lot of IP numbers and addressing directly to the voting gateway. Or perhaps voting at TWC itself without ever going to the comic. Either way, seems like it would take a lot of peeps to accomplish it, (but we know such conspiracies would never exist, right? 😉 )
Aw, they’re so awkwardly adorable! <3
Lookit all this cute-tivity going on all over this page! XD
i agree! Well, I mostly got the impression that Nicole did it because of the way Dan started to talk and then started stuttering… as if the (pleasant) shock of Nicole grabbing his hand made him forget for a moment what he was going to say. Hehe, that happened to me once when my boyfriend held my hand for the first time ^^; It happened at a dinner party while I was telling an animated story to a table-ful of people… the whole table saw me stutter and they were all confused ‘cuz he did it under the table ^^;;
but I gotta say, I didn’t quit get how her hand open and up from yesterday’s last panel evolved to her hand down holding his hand like that until I read your comment ^^;; sorry =3
This scene is extremly cute and I am happy for them both, but I must be honest: Nastajia’s warning Alex to tell Dan that Nick is coming after him is confusing me, since I thought Dan couldn’t dream peroid and with people insisting Nicole is bad for him, and we have some very smart people to say Nicole was Felicity’s human friend as soon she mentions it. So I am anxious to find out precisely what Nick can do to Dan and how.
Fair enough; and for what it’s worth, when I said “kids” I was thinking of kids about the age of Scott’s kids: 12 and under.
For the record, I’m 37, and I still have difficulty with the concept that I’m a generation older than folks your age … (I guess I’ll always be a kid at heart, no matter how many body parts start breaking down … )
😉
Hmm, an auto-voting script … I could totally do that … 😉
But seriously; even if I could, I wouldn’t. I respect the underlying moral integrity of Scott’s work too much to sully it with underhanded tactics like that.
As for TwoKinds, I have a different theory (though you may be on to something with the auto-voting idea): there is a fairly large and vocal “furry” community on the internet that will flock to anything depicting anthropomorphic animals – especially cat-girls – in romantic situations. TwoKinds has that, in spades, and so is likely getting support from that community; while Dreamland has Felicity, she hasn’t been romantically involved with anyone yet, and if/when she is, the depiction of such will likely be handled with the same delicate care and moral integrity we’ve seen with the other relationships (Alex/Nastajia, and now Dan/Nicole). As such, a Felicity relationship in Dreamland probably won’t hold much interest for the “furry” community.
Wow, I had to really step lively to dance around THAT topic without getting too graphic, didn’t I?
😉
Alex, if you interrupt them so help me I will SMACK you!! So I might as well get ready. I love the chemistry you have fostered between them Scott.
The inane trivia that Dan is spouting while while experiencing this big moment in his life makes me happy. 10 points out of 10 for you. 🙂
Nice string of observations, but don’t forget that he and Orion had been passing notes for some time. It wouldn’t surprise me if the guy was trying to get Dan more involved in Dreamland’s goings-on, as much as he’d wanted to be.
Heh..I didn’t wanna give it away by “slashing” the did’s and daad’s. However, the spaces disappeared when I hit “submit” odd..
What’s “The Princess bride” that everyone is going on about??? ( dunno. haven’t seen it…)
Plus we have the comic rating to think about!
Absolutely. He’s quite nervous and uncomfortable, so he goes to a comfortable and confident place, even if it is not really appropriate for the moment.
Hehe I love the awkward first stage! Go Scott!
is it just me, or does this love relationship seem some what weird? i mean, isn’t she alot older then him and isn’t she a teacher at the college?
No. She’s a med student. Maybe a year or two older. Her brother played hockey with Alex in pee wee leagues. I mention it somewhere in the first chapter.
Ah, then I do believe I misunderstood you, Tek.
Also, I thoroughly believe that I need to be reminded I’m a child. (Both by legal and parental opinions.)
It’s annoying growing up nowadays with teenagers who think “Twilight” is the best thing since the wheel.
Where I am, in my situation, I am forced to mature faster then I do believe I should, but I’m going with life for now and things like Dreamland Chronicles reminds me I’m just a kid who wants to be an actual kid and I hope earlier generations appreciate stories like these to bring them down to earth that they were children and no doubt that many people today would love to return to their childhoods.
Oh yes, and Scott, you are doing a great job, at first a relationship between them was something I never quite thought of until it showed it’s first potential.
Hee hee! Scott, I know I’m sixteen and this may not mean much coming from a kid, but you are one lucky guy. Tell Donna and the kids I love your work and I sure as ever can appreciate your families closeness, not many have that anymore.
(First of all, hi Scott!!!)
First time commenter, I just had to say this – only Daniel could have a sweet moment like this… and continue to nerd about a movie.
@TekServer:
You keep using that word — I do not think it means what you think it means.
You don’t have to fool anyone–just tell the story in an engrossing way, which you do. Casablanca may have been predictable–but it’s in how they tell the story and develop the relationships that makes it great.
Haven’t seen Princess Bride? INCONCEIVABLE!
I love the concept art of Felicity. Concept art is one of my favorite things to look at. I don’t care what stage it is at.
You are hereby ordered by the Court of Public Opinion to immediately go to your favorite movie source and rent/buy/download/pirate (j/k on that last) a copy of “The Princess Bride”. Watch it tonight, preferably in the company of family and/or good friends. (It’s kid friendly.)
😉
Welcome, fellow Dreamer!
Good observation about Dan; we geeks & nerds definitely use trivia as a defensive mechanism now and then …
😉
Stick around; the more opinions in our comment community, the better! And don’t forget pop over to TWC and VOTE: http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx
Gulp![imagining angry Nicole]..eeeeehh..ohkay [runs off to Saturn Media Chain to check if there’s a Blu-Ray of said “Princess Bride”]
oh okay, for some reason she looked like a teacher to me and alot older. i guess it’s just me.
We’d enjoy it either way, which is mainly the point! 😀
I’d say it’s the fact the artist draws his characters with very little left to the imagination. Other than that, I’m not sure. I mean, it’s a good story, but the guy doesn’t update enough for my tastes.
😀 YAY! Awww.
Yes. You are that predictable.
And we go from fighting a dragon to discussing old films in three pages…
