Page 1019…
Hi all!
I’ve had an idea to put the comic page as a thumbnail so that everyone would get a chance to see the blog.
I have a feeling that only a small percentage of my readers actually scroll down past the page to see the blog.
With so many wonderful readers having such fun conversations each and every day…I felt people were missing out.
Tyler is working on some nice icons to “pretty it up” but for now…just click on the image of today’s page to see it.
I don’t know if this’ll work or not. But…I’d very much appreciate you giving me your input on this.
I know it’s one extra click. But I hope it creates more awarness of things going on here.

Great shots of Nicodemous! You don’t often see “making sure” behavior in comics. This adds a level of realism that is beyond the usual “I don’t have the page count or desire to do anything except sprint the story along” approach. This shows Nick is being thorough, rather than overconfident. That’s the quality of a cautious rather than arrogant opponent. Much more challenging/interesting.
I don’t like having to click the thumbnail. I’m sorry, but the blog is the desert and the comic is the main course. People come to the site primarily to read the comic, so they should see that right away. If they want to read the Blog, they’ll read it. If they don’t want to, don’t try to force them. But that’s just my opinion.
Good news, everyone!
Scott finally found the corporate sponsor he was looking for!
As will all things, some change is inevitable when money is involved. As a result, there may be a few, minor editing changes requested by the sponsor.
The link below shows the corrected end to page 1016. We hope you enjoy this new, even more relevant to the real world look of The Dreamland Chronicles!

ROFL, that was great. It was completely worth it to see Orion say that.
Scott,
In this new format, the discussion is always seen on Firefox, but not seen on IE 8. On IE8, there is not a button to view the discussion, either. You can still submit a comment on IE 8, howerver.
After I submitted this comment on IE8, then the Discussion posts appeared.
Last comment, I promise!
I really like the way the smoke trail was affected by Nick flying through it. Although wing vorticies would have been even cooler! π
*sighs* Orion, you should have known better. Try not to forget next time. Oh, wait, there won’t be a next time. Great, now you’ve really done it… π
Haha, Nick reminded me of “looking” after he’s done doing his business. You know everyone looks…..
* dessert One “s” in desert for “sand”; two “s” in dessert for “sweet spot.” π
LOL
Scott, way to go with not simply posting the “end” of the double page that you will have in the real published comment, thereby giving people who have not voted yet a reason to do so (for those who have not, the complete package for 12/15’s page is still up, but probably not for long; go to http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx to see it, but before you vote, save the link into your favorites for future use!)
Also, excellent use of panning out the action here. As JakesDad said earlier, this does show that Nicodemus isn’t simply the arrogant bully- he’s actually methodical and knows how to follow through on his threats. This should put serious fear into our adventurers considering they have now fully realized they aren’t just dealing with some behind the scenes schemer who can’t hold his own in a fight- he’s a full fledged, fire-breathing, treasure hording, conniving dragon! π
* comment = comic
I really need to not be working when you do one of these livestreams. I especially loved the work that the boys did for you. That was really cute! π
Let’s see…
Alex has read the tablets from the elves, merpeople & dwarves. Nick has destroyed the tablets of the fairies & centaurs before Alex could read them. That leaves the tablets of the Rock Giants & Guardians. Hmmm… Who are the Guardians? Could they be noble & honorable dragons that have exiled the evil & selfcentered Nick…
Is it just me, or do Nick’s wings change size a lot?
One of my pet peeves of webcomics is when the comic is NOT on the front page, and you have to click to get at it. The entire point of a webomic is the comic, the blog is secondary (though I always read it). Now, if you want your blog to be more prominent, I recommend adding some king of lightbox-ish functionality to the thumbnail, so that it automatically comes up without having to go to a separate page. Regardless of whether you do that, the thumbnail right now isn’t very obvious that it’s what you click on to read the comic…Looks more like an avatar picture like the ones on these comments, something to be ignored when scanning through the page. It needs to be more prominent event if you leave the real comic on a separate page.
Odd, I don’t see a thumbnail; I see the page as I always have.
Oh, wait; that’s probably because I clicked into it from the link in the RSS feed …
A couple of things from watching through the Livestream:
Scott, I think the new look is a GREAT IDEA to help get people to participate. Unfortunately, as has been seen regarding voting, I think that though it’s an awesome idea, I think that people are going to choose to do what they are going to choose to do. I say keep it the new way even if it’s not as well liked so that if there is anyone who chooses not to read your cleverly crafted “instruction manual”, then they still have an “in-game tutorial” that will help guide them through the process of how things should work, if they do desire to be involved (can you tell I’ve played a lot of RPG’s much? lol) And those who want to just view the comic can take the one second for the extra click.
Night Dragons and Day Dreamers, eh? Excellent stuff! π I didn’t realize Dreamland Chronicles had it’s own Facebook page. I know that I’m friends with you on Facebook, but I’ll have to look into that. For tomorrow though- that will be my reward for successfully getting packed for Los Angeles (and for getting out of this cold WI weather)!
I have to agree with most of the other comments. Nix the thumbnail. If you do leave that on, it will make going back and re-reading a total pain, almost one too much to go through with it (not to mention also for any new readers reading for the first time). But then, I’ve always scrolled through the blog, so *shrug*
I come straight from the RSS feed too.. and you’re right, it appeared as a full page. — That being said, I visited the main page and think the thumbnail should be linked within the blog post. As it stands, it looks a little out of place on the left side of the blog.
I don’t think the thumbnails will affect the archives. It only does a thumbnail on the home page.
Where’s page 1018? The website skips from 1017 to 1019, and when I try to alter the URL to show page 1018, it doesn’t exist.
i too am against the thumbnail. i always read your blog, scott, but…it’s a pet peeve of mine too, in addition to comics that open a new window for every click. as if i don’t have a right click for that.
the fire pages look good and it’s distressing that he’s destroying dreamland history…but maybe it will incite people to act who wouldn’t have otherwise. will check out the livestream later, but thanks for doing that!
agreed – i appreciate the full spread and agree that people should vote to see it or they are truly missing out. thank you, fluteman, for the suggestion of bookmarking the link to TWC, since scott doesn’t want to post it permanently to the site…good idea.
No thank you, no extra clicks. Extra clicks means I – and many others – stop reading. I’m not here for the blog, but sometimes I am in the mood and scroll down. If not, don’t force me, or I’m out.
This is dumb. No one cares about your life. Just post your comic!
yeah…great comic, really don’t care about your blog. if I’m going to be forced to click past a blog, I just won’t bother. I have over a dozen other comics I read daily, and really don’t have the time or interest to read about everybody’s daily drama, pet charities or banter about the latest post.
Be nice. π
I’m against the thumbnail for two reasons like another said, it makes going back and re-reading a pain, 2 its another page to load, thus more bites, thus more dollars on the internet bill. Now besides that love Nicks circling! π and…. BE NICE “cfc”!!!!!! That is no way to talk to the artist of our fav. Comic!!! plus, some people do care! ok I’m done now.
I would think it just depends on the angle you look at it. It’s harder when you draw a comic to always get the same size of a certain extremity, but this is a 3D model – so the wing size should always be the same.
Unless Scott always changes it and I somehow doubt that.
I would read the blog anyway. But I agree with all the other people here – the comic is the main item of this webpage so it only makes sense to make it the most prominent feature in your layout.
I agree with everyone else.. the extra click to see the comic is just plain annoying. I’m here to see your comic, and whilst I do read your blog post most days, on the days I don’t, I don’t want to have to click through yet another page…
For community, I’d recommend providing a forum, and pushing people to use it.
Ok people, you don’t have to be rude. If you like the comic you can at the very least be respectful to the person who’s worked so hard to bring it to us.
I’m not a fan of the thumbnail either, partly because I’m a regular reader of your blog anyway, but mostly because I think it’s unnecessary.
Most people are aware there is a blog to read underneath the comic if they want to, those who weren’t probably are now, and the vast majority of people who chose not to read the blog before will no doubt continue not to. If they’re purely interested in the comic, then making it one more click away isn’t going to convince them to read the blog beforehand.
I don’t have any suggestions on how to make the blog more popular, but I’m pretty sure most people won’t appreciate this change.
I preffered it without the thumbnail. I think people usually come here for the comic, and seeing a thumbnail mihgt get them confused and leave. Other webcomics have a page that you load and see the newest strip, so it is a standard, that people expect. People who want to read the blog, coments and so on will do so anyway, but forcing anyone to do it is a bad idea.
1017 is really two pages so it’s both 1017 &1018.
I love your blog! I read it every weekday and usually check the comics as well. That said, for some reason I never read comics with that extra click involved. It just feels weird – when you’re reading a book, you just open it up to see a page. You don’t have to pick up a book to pick up another book that has the page… okay, I promise I was going somewhere with that.
It might have been my computer going crazy, but didn’t you have a roll-over page yesterday? Where you move your mouse over the picture and it expands on your screen? I could be making stuff up in my head, but wouldn’t that be a better idea? I don’t know… I love your comic, Scott, I really do! And I like reading the blog too. But that one extra click does make a difference. Especially because it feels like we’re being forced into it, even though I know that’s not what you mean to do.
I do, however, appreciate that you’re trying new things. It never hurts to give new ideas at least a good try!
Ah, one last thing because I viewed the front page again. The change makes it feel like a daily blog with a comic attached, as opposed to a daily comic with a blog attached. Take that as you will. π
Nice page !
Is it normal I can’t see the “tag” button anymore though ?
I always enjoy reading your blog, even though I almost never comment, but I have to agree that the extra click is a pain and likely to drive off readers. Just a suggestion–if you have something really important you need to let us know about, can you put a link to the blog post about it above the comic? This is what Pete Abrams of Sluggy Freelance does, and it seems to work well.
I care! Scott likes hockey, dragons and produces free entertainment for a semi-starving writer! I’d hug him if I could! π (He’ll have to settle for a hug from wife and/or kids. The poor guy..)
I love the art on this one.. You can see the motion of Nicky’s flying as he circles. Also shows how he got to be king of the world.. its not just because he’s a big, flying, monster with fire at his muzzle tip.. no, it’s because he’s a careful, cunning, big, flying, monster with fire at his muzzle tip! π
I, too, am not a fan of the “click through” comics. Typically I don’t read their blogs at all and just either bookmark the comic page or click through without reading. I do generally read your blog posts tho Scott. Keep ’em underneath for those of us who care and thpppt to those that don’t.
I hate to say this, but I couldn’t possibly care less about the blog or comments. I don’t care what your kids are doing, what you bought your wife, or a picture of some random crap. I only come here for the comic and nothing else.
One extra click would probably force me to stop visiting, since I am on a very slow internet and its a chore just to get to one page, let alone two.
I really don’t see that as Nic doing a “ok, is it all on fire?” for me it is more of him admiring his handiwork.
I always scroll down to view what you post in your blog I enjoy reading it personally gives things a personal touch, imho. I don’t comment usually, but I do read what you say.
Yeah I wondered where the tag button had gone too?
I agree with Squeeself–it’s a nuisance to click the thumbnail. Now, since I’m already hooked, it’s not enough to keep me from reading, but it’s irritating nonetheless. I’m one of those readers who reads the comic and reads the blog, but doesn’t ALWAYS comment. Maybe you have more people reading than you realize.
First, everyone say goodbye to Jellybeans..
Scott,
It’s just a click however, as everyone has already stated, having the comic pop up is the main idea behind the on-line comics. We knwo that there are blogs and “other” things that come afterwards and thats ok however, it should be the persons decision to continue on, you have been doing a great job with the site in the past. As we use to say in the Navy, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Although many of the people who have said they don’t like the extra click have been polite, I’m thinking maybe those others who are being so rude about it don’t deserve to see the comic, & I wouldn’t miss posters like that if you decided to go with your idea xp
As it is, I read the blog everyday out of curiosity, click the vote link when it is posted, and read some of the comments anyway (usually I’m wanting to know what is happening on the next comic page too much to read all the comments though.)
After reading all the comics, I wanted to point out a couple things:
1) I’ve realized that it’s not the extra click that bothers me, it’s the layout–it looks like a “broken” page instead of an intentional click. To that end, I wanted to link you to a couple comics who “get it right” when it comes to blogging + clicking. First is Phoenix Requiem: http://requiem.seraph-inn.com/ second is Looking for Group: http://www.lfgcomic.com/ The extra click is not as obnoxious on these pages.
2) I still haven’t read todays comic because it was an itty bitty thumbnail π I have to make a concentrated effort not to miss it at this point.
comics = comments, sorry.
I don’t mind the thumbnail at all. And I think its nice to be able to see the blog. I’ve only recently stumbled across this webcomic; but I’m liking it. π
I for one would greatly prefer it if you didn’t have a click-through for the comic. I’m here to read the comic, and while I do on occasion read the blog, it’s extra – not the reason I visit the site every day.
Please change it back,
-Zay
Ha ha!
I love the little Geico lizard on his shoulder!
Actually…mousing over the image makes it full size.
I don’t scale them. But as they unfold and stretch naturally…I do think they get bigger and smaller.
LOL!
First, the blog-before-comic approach will be spoiler-happy, especially with the thumbnail. I don’t want to know your thoughts (or anybody else’s thoughts) about the day’s comic before I’ve had a chance to read it for myself. And having the thumbnail as my first impression of the day’s comic page, well, it just spoils my appetite for the real thing.
Secondly, this action to direct people to the blog/comments instead of the comic makes me feel like I’m betraying you by not reading or participating in the community myself. But I just come here to enjoy the comic; I already invest my blogging/forum time elsewhere. I won’t be so silly as to abandon such a fun comic over this little detail, but I do hope you reconsider this approach all the same.
What’s a tag button?
Oh. You mean bookmark tag?
Where did it go?
Wow.
Well first off…
Welcome to all of you who took the time to comment for the first time.
I’m sorry you don’t like the extra click. Nor my blog.
I’ve spoken to Tyler and have asked him to put it back the way it was.
I know Internet Anonymity makes people say things in a ruder fashion than they would in real life…so I’m of course not going to get upset with the comments.
I appreciate you reading every day. And if you just want to come by and read…and that’s it.
Then thank you for doing so.
My MAIN goal is to entertain you. And I hope I have been doing so for the last 1000 pages.
For those of you who like to follow me on the blog, twitter, facebook, and livestream…thank you as well.
Yes…my life is not that exciting…ha ha. I know that.
But I’ve learned that running a webcomic is 50% comic and 50% artist interaction.
I’m doing my best to provide everyone with the full 100% of the experience. But understand not everyone wants/needs that.
Thank you all SO much for the input. And I hope we’ll have this squared away (back to normal) by the end of the day.
Scott
Not to sound like a jerk, but by putting the comic as an icon, the website becomes focused on the blog. I come to read the comic. If the comic is the focus, make it the focus of the site. I do scroll past the comic everytime and check in to see what’s going on, whether you’re busy, on vacation, doing cool stuff for the comic, trying new things. I come to the site for the comic though, not blog discussions.
I really don’t mean to be a jerk.
-Em
Scott,
I don’t think people “don’t like the blog”, they just like the comic more than the blog!”
I also came straight from the rss feed and did not see the thumbnail until I went to the home page to check it out. I haven’t read all of the comments, just the first and last few, and I’m sorry if people have been rude. I think that’s not called for. I will give some feedback, though. I think the way the thumbnail appears on the page isn’t ideal graphically. It probably needs to be centered, and the text is not wrapping properly for me. Secondly, it would be better if you had a cropped close-up as the thumbnail rather than getting a preview of the entire image. It would really have spoiled that double page splash of Nicodemus, for example.
Personally, I don’t mind clicking through if you want to highlight your blog. (I also think people have no right to complain. You are giving us the comic for free, after all. I also tend to think that the sort of person who won’t bother with a single additional click also won’t bother coming back every day, which takes a lot more effort.) Still, I don’t think that will encourage many people to read the blog or comment on it. I occasionally read the blog, but I am not generally inclined to comment, mainly because I feel that it takes a lot more time, especially if I want to say something that contributes new thoughts to the conversation. Often, I don’t even have time to read the blog, but I still take the time to read the comic. I know the blog is there, but that doesn’t lead immediately to me reading it. I can ignore it just as easily when I click through as when it is on the same page. Personally, I tend to think that most people who don’t read or respond to the blog aren’t likely to do so in either setup. However, I *would* read more of the blog if it wasn’t truncated on the RSS feed.
Ha! I missed the Geico gecko the first time through; that’s great!
You know what, Scott, I’m going to be contrary and vote to keep the new thumbnail layout. If it drives away a few rude folks who don’t care about you, and only want to leech your creative efforts, then I say good riddance; you’re better off without them. Those of us who have been reading everything you write regularly will continue to do so, and we’ll be eager for every bit of news about your lovely and amazingly supportive wife Donna and those great twin boys of yours. We will continue to agonize with you over such things as back injuries, hashing out all the little devil-details of a movie deal, and (last but certainly not least) the continual effort to make a living off of a free comic without making it “not free”.
So anyone who doesn’t want to see the thumbnail can spend the extra few minutes one day to figure out and set up the RSS feed, as I have. And those who want to abandon you over such a minor thing: bye!
π
Oh, yeah, and for those of you sticking around: vote!
http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx
π
“Iβve had an idea to put the comic page as a thumbnail so that everyone would get a chance to see the blog.”… any way we can talk you out of this?
I come here to see the comic, frankly. Yes, I scrool down to the blog, but I come here to see the comic. Really. That’s the only reason. Making it “secondary” to the blog is really almost rude, but to you! It’s like you’re saying that the blog/commentary is the important part, and oh yeah, we have this comic over here on the side that you probably aren’t interested in, but hey, if that’s what trips your trigger…
The new format didn’t bother me, nor the extra click and another page to load. Having unmeasured DSL I never considered what the impact may be on those with measured plans. Now that I consider the case of measured service or dial up, I can see where you do a service to the readers by changing back. Credit is also given for listening and taking action. I have no doubt a lot of time and thought went into the new layout and you should be commended for scrapping it so quickly.
I’ve read the comments of others on angles and wings and the such and something is bothering me. The first frame today just looks off to me. Is the right wing actually behind the pinnacle? The perspective seems to make the pinnacle quite small, something I had not picked up on in earlier frames. One last comment, I would have thought the wing material between the bones/supports would have been concave, not convex. I don’t normally see what others see, so when I do see something it really makes me wonder.
We still love your work, Scott.
Hi All!
I just feel like I have to comment today! For those of you who provided Constructive comments…Thank You so much…we really do appreciate your feedback and take it seriously to help us make our site even better!
For those of you who were RUDE…let me say…from time to time artists need to try new things…this just happens to be one of them. MANY other webcomic artists require you to click through to see their comics so this isn’t something entirely new to readers who read other webcomics…and it seems that most of you read more than a few webcomics.
On that note…there is no need to be rude to my husband! He has produced over 1,000 pages of awesome storyline and art…that I might add…you all read for FREE every day! He is dedicated and devoted and has worked through many obstacles to get to this milestone! If something about the site bothers you…please simply reply NICELY! He takes all reader feedback seriously and makes adjustments accordingly…and if you have been reading for any length of time at all you are aware of this!
I would think at this time of the holiday season everyone would be a little kinder to each other and take a moment to speak to others how you would like to be spoken to!
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to all of the readers! He does this for you! It’s what drives him! He loves your feedback and appreciates your coming back every day!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!
Donna
I really don’t mind the thumbnail, but I always read the blog. I can see why it’d be annoying for some.
I love that Nic is circling. Typical aerial creature behavior when they’re checking something out. I’m hoping that the stone tablet can withstand the fire and they’ll still be able to make it out. All the others are stone, so logic follows that this one would be stone as well. Stone can survive fire provided it isn’t too hot.
Don’t care for the Thumbnail much. I like coming to see your work. Hit the first page and there it was. I could scroll down on the days I felt like chatting.
OH, and the Smoke trail following him is a nice touch.
Thank you Donna!!
We appreciate that you allow all of his crazy fans to monopolize so much of his attention. ;D And I think the majority of us would happily pound anyone who upsets him with nasty, spiteful comments.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. You tell ’em, Donna!
Seriously, though, there’s no way we can ever thank you enough for all the support you give to Scott, and even more for the tolerance you show for all of us extras he brings into your family! So, um, thanks!
π
You know, I’ve noticed something else among the site changes; I don’t know if it was intentional.
Before, when you clicked the “reply” link to someone else’s post, this text box where you type your comment would move up to just below the post to which you were replying. Now, when you click “reply”, the text box stays put and your focus on the page jumps down to the text box. It’s a minor difference, but it means that if you want to re-read part or all of the comment to which you’re replying, it’s not “right there” any more – you have to scroll back up the page to get to it.
Does that make any sense? It’s not a big deal, but I liked the old way better. But, hey! As long as Scott and Dreamland and the rest of this family, both immediate and extended, continue to be a part of my life, I can live with it as is.
Never mind. This was an ISP or browser caching issue.
If I’m not mistaken, I think there is another slight change to the comment process that I like. After you click “Reply”, you get the normal “section of fields” where you put in your Name, email, etc. The title of this Comment Section used to say “Leave Comment.” Now it says “Reply to TekServer,” or whoever you are replying to.
I agree with TekServer that it is preferable not to scroll all the way back up to the comment. I noticed the same thing.
Not sure I appreciate the thumbnail. I always read the blog, it’s like the artist’s comments on deviantART, it adds more dimension and life to the page. I just never comment because I’m not incredibly social, and what the heck do I have to offer any way? ‘Nice page, sorry your kids gave you a cold for your birthday present’? That’s the most I ever have to offer, as I fail epically at any form of social behavior.
Call me a loser, that’s fine, this is how it makes me feel.
This isn’t meant to be rude to Scott, it’s more a bash at me if anything. I did say I suck at social life, that might be evident now.
I love the thumbnail idea, Scott! I love reading the blog but I sometimes forget to read it at the end. I’m sure once it’s dolled up, it’ll be something worth sitting and staring at all day… Or maybe I’m the only person who does that…
LOL!!!!
Not loving the thumbnails. I come here for the comic, not the blog, and the extra click *is* annoying. Just one vote in the “nay” column.
ROFL! That’s great.
I know Scott has already said he’s asked to have it switched back but I wanted to come at the topic from a different angle. Most of us who read Dreamland day after day already enjoy the comic enough to click thru a thumbnail even if it’s an inconvenience. The people who will be most impacted by the change are first time visitors. If you have a newcomer to the site, the first thing you want them to see is the gorgeous comic that sets this site apart from all other sites on the internet. There are billions of blogs out there but only one Dreamland. People find the blog because they enjoy the comic and want to get to know the creator better. That doesnβt mean they don’t like the blog, itβs just that itβs not the main draw.
That’d be awesome, Scott! Though I have Safari (latest version) on a macbook and it doesn’t work for me. If it did, I would love it! Two birds, one stone. π
You think you’re being funny! And that shock factor is something. But most of us read Scott’s blog even if we don’t comment and love it! π
You go, Donna! You said everything perfectly. Those people are just jerks. Every website (and demographic) online has ’em. It’s kinda like when you go to the supermarket and there’s that one person who doesn’t mind kicking your cart out of the way or jumping in line in front of your kids. They’re not important. Pay attention to the real fans. π
Scott,
Thanks for being willing to put things back the way they were. I’m a firm believer in not “forcing” things on others – and unfortunately, the layout was “forcing” the blog on people. Like many, I rarely find things of relevance in most comic artist’s blog’s as I don’t have money to spend (so can’t participate in eBay auctions, charity drives, etc.), and very few comic artists come anywhere near my neck of the woods as it’s a 100 mile drive to the nearest decent Con. Some days I scroll down and take a peek at what’s going on, but most days I don’t. My biggest concern, where TDC is concerned, is that very often when I do scroll down, there are comments in the blog about the day’s comic. No way do I want spoilers!
Thanks again,
SulaBlue
Amazing how some people think honesty is rude. He asked to know what people think. Some of us are actually capable of saying what we think, without having to sugar coat everything. I seriously doubt most people will break from blunt honesty. If they do, they need to toughen up.
I love the comic. But the comic is what I come to see. I am not trying to be mean, for you and your audience who want to blog, discuss, whatever, but I don’t have time for that. I visit a few comic sites, and enjoy them alot- but i don’t want to twitter, facebook or comment.
In fact most of the time- I wish you would get on with the story— your art is very good- but I look at the ocmics for the story line and does it keep me interested. So I don’t need to see 4 panes that really could be covered in one. It is a comic not a video—-
but thanks for what you do. I find the *story* very interesting.
Hi all.
Just to clarify…
The really RUDE comments went into the SPAM folder.
Let’s just say that they had a lot of four letter words in them.
π
Everyone here for the most part has been civil. And hey…as my wife put it. We’re trying something.
It didn’t work.
As soon as Tyler gets around to it…it’ll go back to normal.
I want everyone to enjoy the story. Whether they just want to read the comic and get on with their life or stay for a while and chat.
Either way. I’m happy you all come by.
Scott,
I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: Thank you for the hard work you put in to bring Dreamland to life for us.
I don’t have anything different to express over the thumbnail that others in the anti-thumbnail column haven’t said. Kellrass is the one whose sentiments I echo. Newcomers need to see the reason we all are devoted to TDC.
The SPAM folder is the perfect place for any rude comments, whether they’re rife with four-letter words or not. Accept the civilized criticism for what it is, and ignore the rude criticism for the bovine scatology that it is.
I think the blog adds a little personality to it. I read it and other web comic blogs. The comic is the main draw for me to come by every weekday or try to, but the blog is a plus. I love getting a heads up for if you’re taking a vacation or otherwise not going to be update. I read comics that have no warning or any clue on when a missing update will appear. So, I don’t stop by as often on the simple fact there might not be an update like it says and no idea when it would appear. But here I’m almost checking every weekday because your blog is reliable source of that information. I also like little tidbits of randomness about your life or encouragement to check out another webcomic by an author you respect or whatever. The most exciting is talking about a movie!
Though you understand the ways of Anonymity on the Internet and don’t get offended by rude comments, it’s still great to see all the fans defend you. You have quite the support, Scott!
One question regarding some of the rude comments… is there anyway you can add a profanity filter to the comments section? It’s doesn’t personally offend me, but it seems people forget this is a comic aimed for the whole family… and it being clean would be very helpful in keeping it that way. π Any response is most appreciated.
Scott,
You are such a professional. I know we didn’t see the worst of it in terms of comments, and you took all of them with such grace. It’s such a valuable trait to have in ones personality and you really have it. I think people need to take you as an example, and also learn that there are professional/polite/graceful ways to express the fact that they disagree with your idea as well.
You do great work on this comic. I always look forward to the next one. Thank you!
Huh. I didn’t realize he would be so hard to see.
I should have put an “OH, DEAR” word bubble above his head!
Ha Ha Ha!!! Brilliant!!! π
Running the risk of being redundant, I’m gonna have to throw my agreement in with the anti-thumbnail votes. Yeah, it’s only one click, but it’s an annoying one click,
I tend to read your blog entries when I check the comic updates, but not everyone does. If someone wants to read, they’ll read, if not, it’s not a great idea to force them. You’ll just end up loosing readers in the long run.
I just checked the page so I missed the new layout and such, but I am glad you changed it back to the way it was. For the people with dial-up (I used to be one) it would add a little more frustration that didn’t exist before. Thank you for trying something new, even if it didn’t work, and thank you for providing this wonderful comic free of charge. The trail of smoke that follows Nicodemous is a great effect.
If Nick was smiling, I would agree with you, but he’s frowning in concentration. To me it looks like he’s checking to see if anything is left. . . from all angles.
Scott,
I don’t know if you want to post this or not. I just want to say as a young man looking into the life of an older man through the blogs it has been a breath of fresh air. I know your marriage and life aren’t perfect but all you hear from the world is the divorce rate and how horrible marriage and kids are a burden and things like that. I am super impressed with the way your family interacts and seems to genuinely care about each other. You have a supportive wife and you focus on your kids above all else. Taking them to the conventions and such. I am sure I am not the only person in this situation that thinks your blogs are good. I just wanted to hopefully encourage you that your blog isn’t just a glimpse into your life but is making a difference in encouraging and lifting people up. Same as the comic does. Thank you sir and God bless!
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. One of the few downsides to browsing on a 37″ LCD TV instead of a regular monitor is that the images often appear darker than usual. Sometimes I miss details in the darker sections of a picture; that’s one of the reasons I read the comments: when someone comments on something I didn’t see, I take another look at the picture. If I still don’t see it, I move the browser window temporarily over to my regular monitor.
Thank you very much!
Just wanted to thank you all again for the kind words and for being patient while we got the site back to normal.
You’re welcome, Scott, on behalf of all of us. And you be sure to do something extra special for Donna sometime in the next few days! Mama-Sava definitely showed she was ready to fight in your defense up yonder, and has earned a special thank you …
π
Wait… The tablets are stone, right? Would there be enough intensity to the flame/burning fuel sources atop that tower of rock to even severely damage the tablet? Even make it crack? Is the centaur tablet made out of animal hide or something? Would the rock giants not have a rock tablet because that would be like scarring a relative against their wishes? Is the rock giant tablet a tattoo on the rock giant chief’s butt? If so, nick shall half to breathe really hard on a rock giant’s butt until it goes away… That’s going to take awhile.
talk about checking your dead -_-
you’re awesome π
I hope Scott shares the nice comments with you when he writes about you and the kids π We’re all about cheering them on in hockey and wishing you happy birthday/anniversary. We know that Scott wouldn’t be doing all this stuff if you weren’t the supportive, loving woman that you are. So you go, girl! π
I just wanted to add another “no thumbnail please”. I don’t always enjoy/have time for the blog entries but still want to read the comic. The extreme annoyance of having to do extra clicking to get to the comic would probably get me to stop reading it – other comics that have done this are no longer in my feed. I don’t understand why you need people to read the blog – someone buying one of your books wouldn’t have your daily comments, but would still appreciate and support your art.
Nicodemus: “Hmph…I really should have nuked the site from orbit, though. It really *is* the only way to be sure.”
Do I hear “Stand by You Man” playing in the background? Get’em Girl!
Love the way WayneP put it: “Accept the civilized criticism for what it is, and ignore the rude criticism for the bovine scatology that it is.”
I think Nico is just angry because someone painted pink stripes on him while he was asleep. In non-water-soluble paint.
you loathesome ville little cocroach
I like how the dragon’s wings catch the moonlight in the second panel.
Nicodemus is such a dick. How much you wanna bet if it was Earth he would have his own album dedicated to him just for burning things down?
