Meet the Parents…
Well for the first time ever…
We get to meet Nastajia’s parents.
Oberon and Titania.
Now before anyone says anything.
I named Oberon because I thought it was a cool name from my childhood.
I used to play with Micronauts (back in the 70’s for you young’ns) and there was this cool character named Oberon.
When I named them originally. It was Oberon and Juliana.
But Karen convinced me that it would be cooler to have the names from Shakespeare (since I was already halfway there unwittingly)
So before anyone asks me if I like Shakespeare…the answer is…no.
My wife does (at least she SAYS she does).
🙂
Anyways. I really like them. It’s always fun to write royalty (even with Nicodemus). But they have compassion that Nick doesn’t.
Hope you enjoy it.
Ah, it’s so nice to see royalty with a sense of humor, especially when they need to engender it in their daughter…
lol =) Yes royalty with a sense of humour is nice. PARENTS with a sense humours even better, normally. Shame it didn’t pass down to Nastaja… Maybe it skips a generation?
There was that moment of.. uh-oh, and so glad to see it followed by laughter as I also laughed.
Paddington’s face in the second panel is so cute. He looks mortified by what he just did. 🙂
I’m pretty sure Oberon & Titania predate Shakespeare 🙂
My honest thought was – “The king & queen of the elves are the legendary king and queen of Faerie? Wow! Scott’s really thought this one through!”
Never mind, eh? 😀
You should always listen to your wife, it saves you from many frying pans over the head.
Why don’t you like Shakespeare?
Come on, he was the Steven Spielberg of his day – the plays are sexy, funny, violent, sexy, melodramatic, heroic, sexy — great stories. And Midsummer Night’s Dream is a total classic with magic, fairies, girl-fighting, hilarious stooges and everybody winds up naked, sleeping in the forest.
What could be bad? Of course I am a Theater major from way back, so I’m a little prejudiced.
Anyway, even without the classical reference, I am completely into Dreamland. This is a charming little vignette in an overall excellent comic.
Shakespeare is okay, I guess. But Micronauts are enternal!
Can we have a Biotron cameo?
You know you’re a comic book nerd when…
You hear the name “Oberon” and think it’s a reference to the Jack Kirby character from DC’s “Mister Miracle.”
Yeah, I first thought that…not Shakespeare, and not the Faerie King…I’m a nerd
Well, that’s an interesting twist of events – showing that the Dreamlanders think that Daniel’s incapability to dream is some sort of disease. I wonder what kind of implications this has for the story. It certainly opens a fair few possibilities.
And also a question… wouldn’t it be interesting if Daniel tried on the sword necklace? I wonder if he would be able to at least dream then, even though he’s not the sword’s chosen one. Maybe some of Alex’s power will be able to touch him.
And maybe he will become the evil twin and take over Dreamland as supreme ruler. Hehe… just kidding.
I like to play with ideas…
You really appreciate Shakespeare when you read it in the original klingon.
