Page 1532…
Sorry for the delay.
I had forgotten to add the sky in the render last night and Alex and Nastajia’s armor don’t look quite right if there’s no sky.
Darn reflections.
Also…
I’ve just come back from the printer with an exact replica of one of my Art Nouveau Watercolor paintings.
It’s done on Acid Free/Archival Watercolor paper and it looks fabulous.
I know not everyone can afford the originals. So here’s a “relatively” inexpensive way to get one you can frame.
Please check them out.

And some of the originals are still available too here:

I…simply….can’t stop….laughing…..wheeze
watch out falicity… if your head gets any bigger, your new hat won’t fit
Yeah, I’ll leave this video for an accurate response. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkJdEFf_Qg4
It’s even funnier when I hear Nastajia speak in a very serious tone.
Wait a minute, where are they taking her? They’re not just parading her around, it looks like they’re heading up the stairs towards the Temple… Is Felicity about to be inducted into the city’s religion? THAT would really give Nas something to glower over…
Hmm, I can see how the lack of a sky would be a problem in a sky-city.
Between the city itself and its citizens, as seen in the last panel, I’m really liking Seraphopolis. Probably my favorite location yet in Dreamland.
No way Felicity will let them forget this. “So, you’re a princess Nastajia? Well I’m a goddess!”
I hope they’re not planning to sacrifice her to their gods…! 😉
Love these panels. It’s going to be hard to bring Felicity back to the dreamality of Dreamland after this. I can only imagine. LOL

How a dog thinks: “They feed me, house me, and pet me; they must be god!”
How a cat thinks: “They feed me, house me, and pet me: I must be god!”
😀
Truer words were never spoken, Nastajia.
Two words on how to get Felicity under control: laser pointer.
That’s awesome 🙂 And oh-so-true…
This is too hilarious! I absolutely love it!
Well, given the fact that Bastet was the Goddess of joy, music, dance and festivities (Felicity fits that quite well), I guess they are in for sóme party in the temple.
Maybe a good time for Nasti to let her hair loose?
I still don’t undertand why Nastajia is so worried.
I suppose we will learn about that on Monday.
Sometimes cats don’t respond to the laser pointer. I think some white cats are colorblind and don’t see the dot.
Awww…that’s sad! 🙁 Laser pointers with cats are my favorite silly entertainment!
Dagger, I think she’s just afraid that Felicity’s ego is going to explode. 😀
Oh, I have every confidence it’ll do just that. As uninhibited as Felicity is I fully expect her to step on her own tail in pretty short order, figuratively if not literally. =)
By the way, I love that “this is going to be a trainwreck but I can’t look away” expression on Nastajia’s face. Great Friday page, Scott.
look look shinie shinie
Technically it was a Thursday page.
🙂
But thank you.
And on that note (see the reply above)…
There was a glitch on the Pharaoh’s texture that suddenly appeared. I’ve since fixed it…and am re-rendering.
If it takes more than a couple of hours…I’ll save Friday’s page for Monday.
Sorry again for the delays.
Just noticed: first panel, Felicity’s posture looks similar to the cat-sitting-upright posture, with the paws together in front, like this…

…or as close as possible for a humanoid.
Good detail!
But– “you do not know the evil you have just unleashed upon us all”? That seems a bit excessive. The frivolity, or the tricks, perhaps. But “evil”?
Ping pong balls are fun too.
Or ‘trouble.’
Whatever time it is in whatever time zone, it’s TWC time.
#1: 10,313
#2: 8,357 <= having overrun us
#3: 8,315 <= well, us
And that before a weekend, which a fair part of the Dreamland Chronicles fan base seems to spend in stasis fields.
Rebel Base to Gold Leader: we need your immediate assistance NOW!
This scene just feels odd. Seems like a dog person’s view of cats, and its just… wrong.
I would understand if Nas, Paddie and Alex were laughing like crazy at it, and Felicity enjoying but not overdoing it, and giggling a bit too, but this… no, no and again, NO.
No way Jose. It is not believable. The worshipping part, yes, that has been researched to be true for ancient Egyptian culture, but the reactions from our heroes, no. Sorry, I don’t buy it. (Tip: I would suggest you consult Simon Tofield (of “Simon’s Cat”, see https://www.facebook.com/simonscat), who is EXCEPTIONALLY good at capturing cats’ behaviour in his short cartoon video clips, for a small tweaking of the entire scene.)
HOWEVER, I am quite willing to let it go, since I suspect this will affect the story in a near future. 😉
LOL!
You are correct. I am indeed a “dog person”.
But while Felicity is a Cat-Girl…she is not a Cat.
And the gang aren’t REALLY annoyed. They’re just in “roll eyes” mode as anyone would be if someone with Felicity’s personality was suddenly revered as a god.
It’s more of an “Oh…she’s going to be impossible to deal with for a while” kind of thing.
And yes. Felicity’s “hamming it up”. That’s what she does best.
🙂
@Scott: yes, but. (and that’s a heavy “but” as Bill Cosby said once)
Funny as Nastajia’s line is to the reader, within the story context, when one is on a diplomatic mission to a heretofore undiscovered country, without knowing or understanding cultural cues or local humor, saying “you have unleashed evil” to the host country’s rulers would most likely considered at best a breach of etiquette and at worst a declaration of hostilities.
Yeah, it’s funny, but it’s a “kill all your darlings” moment. Like so: http://www.talkingsquid.net/archives/32
Don’t know if I’d keep it. But it’s your story, we’re just on the other side of the fourth wall.
Ah, but keep in mind, the Pharaoh seems pretty knowledgeable about what’s going on and who his guests are. Seraphopolis may be new territory for our heroes, but the city’s rulers appear pretty hip to Dreamland culture… And maybe relations between Nas and Fel. I doubt he’s going to over-react to this…
Oh man, I so want some of your watercolor’s! Don’t have the money at the moment but so want! Especially the one with Ash from Army of Darkness! One of my favorite B movies!
Actually to the Egyptians cats were Gods, I think that’s what everyone else is so worried about. Think Bast, the cat headed Goddess of love and beauty.
Hah! So true!
Oops, just realized that I got it wrong what Bast was a Goddess of, but if you read further down you will get the gist.
I followed your link and read what he wrote, and personally I don’t see the point. Why cut the best stuff? That seems either pretty arrogant or pretty stupid, take your pick. I love running across lines of brilliance in books and stories, it makes them stand out for me rather than jolting me out of the story. Otherwise it’s just the same old same old and you might as well cut and past one persons writing style in to another persons story.
Oh, and in explanation of why I think cutting your best stuff is arrogant is because it imply’s that your readers are too stupid to either catch what you are saying, or they are such placid sheep that one line of brilliance is going to so shock them that they will no longer enjoy what they are reading. So arrogance or stupidity, take your pick.
Yes, I realized that after posting. And also that I partly reacted to some other posts as well… 🙂 This is very much Felicity’s true personality. 😀
I guess the overall context with all the horrified faces and corresponding comments (in #1530), combined with this grave comment from Nas gave me another impression than what you write – thanks for the explanation.
On another note: I must say I detect a tremendously good job hiding the fact that you currently only have one (?) female Egyptian model to work with – am I right?
The lack of comments implies that no one else has spotted that yet… Superb mixes of “partial faces”, focus blurs and whatnot. Took me days to spot – kudos!
And one more TWC report.

the point is, if you put something in that’s particularly super clever, winking at the reader at your cleverness, you are drawing attention to yourself and taking the reader out of the book. It’s jarring. Pay no attention to the writer behind the curtain.
It’s also part of the editing process, whereby anything that does not further the plot is filler and needs to be cut. It’s a good editing rule.

best quote from the links (for the linkphobic):
“Killing your darlings” is what many writers call deleting paragraphs, scenes, and even chapters that they’ve spent hours creating–all for nothing, they often believe. But a writer who can’t stomach killing any of her darlings is not focusing on the big picture: her story as a whole. You may hate cutting scenes that are hilarious or poignant or suspenseful, but to be a good writer, you must do exactly that. If anything that you’ve written, no matter how beautifully, doesn’t move your story along, it will bog your story down. By saving your “darlings,” you might be killing your story.
