Well…thank you all for your patience in waiting for this new chapter.
Fortunately…I had the foresight to start this chapter on Earth to give Stefano a bit more time to get Seraphopolis built.
Just to give you an idea of what he’s working on…here are some work in progress of the city streets.
Pretty cool…huh?
🙂
Can’t wait to play on these streets.
See you all tomorrow. Hope you enjoy this chapter.
Scott
Those are some awesome looking sets, Scott! Can’t wait to see them for real in the story.
In the mean time, it’ll be fun to see what’s going on in the waking world. 🙂
I agree. The sets look pretty good! I also really appreciate that the chapter starts with Dan and Nicole. I was wondering what they were up to.
I know this might be because they’re pre-rendered visualizations or whatever, but those sets look like a cross between an Ancient Egyptian Temple and… a treehouse.
Not that that isn’t awesome, if that is indeed what it’s supposed to be.
Wow, nice models!
my first thoughts on the preview pics: MAKE A GAME OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!! it would be awesome to acutally walk around there!
nice work Scott!!!
TWC: still sinking.

#4: 9,044 <= us. Who'd think it'd come to this?

Please, vote!
Why oh why can’t we vote twice per day… ?? 🙁 I’d love to give more than one vote to this awesome comic.
Wow!
The lighting is exquisite! It might look simple, but the way it traced makes for an amazing ambiance.
And Nicole & Dan Yippee.. !!! 🙂
So this chapter starts out in the real world?
stefano is truely a master of set designs, these are amazing
I noticed the same. Even the offset angle of that one unit looks at odds with the monolithic, built-to-last-forever look of the structures one level down. Am anxious to see if there’s some backstory for it, like weight considerations maybe? It is a flying city after all. Great modeling work at any rate.
It’s partly because the voting button Scott has is not obvious. Scott – fix the button so it says VOTE HERE and make it bigger!
Ditto! 😀
I understand this is fantasy and you’re allowed artistic license, BUT you are drawing from and trying to represent a real culture. Those buildings are no where near Egyptian Architecture. It looks much more like the Minoans of Crete. It also seems extremely odd that they would have the head of Anubis outside any building that wasn’t a tomb or funerary Temple. Since he was a God of the Underworld and the Embalmer of the Dead. And currently those heads are looking far more like Bulls heads. Which again harkens back to the Minoans. Unless you go with the Goddess Hathor. I’m also a little surprised that you haven’t gone with Horus (the Falcon Headed God), Nut the Sky Goddess, or Isis who was often depicted with wings and was called the Queen of Heaven. Thoth would also be a good one to include. The Ibis headed God of Wisdom.
I understand you’re on a deadline, but it’s all something to keep in mind.
Considering that it has a Greek-sounding name, I think it’s possible that elements from other cultures leaked in over time.
Those sets are pretty cool. I like the wooden structures built over the stone. The stonework is like the rarely-changing foundation of the city, while each generation builds its own houses out of wood as needed every few years. My only question is where the got the wood from. There didn’t appear to be that many trees on Seraphopolis, and I thought they’d keep themselves too isolated for trading.
Scott, love the sets! Can’t wait to see the story unfold on them.
As for voting, fellow Dreamers, please don’t forget. We’re currently in #4, but #3 is very attainable. Here’s the link: http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx
Well where they are existing is actually much like the underworld, so having Anubis seems perfect to me.
i agree!! i was thinking it’d be nice if Scott could sell the sets for us to play w/ afterwards or something… but making it a game instead is definitely a better idea + more accessible 😀
Actually you can, if you vote from two (or more, hint hint!) IP addresses. Like School and Home, or Work and Home.
I like how the sets build upwards. After all, on a floating rock, you can’t build sideways!
Plus building into the rock was already done by Miyazaki in Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
very cool. It’s good to see you guys back in action =)
