Page 1498…
Hi all!
So…guess what came in yesterday?
After a QUICK render test (I hadn’t installed everything yet) one “non dreamland” scene took 4 minutes to render.
On the OLD machine…9 and a half minutes!
WOOT!
I’ll let you all know when it’s all set up and running.
The other one should be arriving soon too.
The ONLY problem I have is…the secondary monitor is analog. Don’t know why.
So I can’t plug in my second monitor until I get a converter.
Other than that…what a great deal.
Thank you all!
Oh…and I painted Doc Brown from Back to the Future over the weekend.
Shiny new computer! yay! That’s awesome.
Also, i’m really liking where this is going, story wise. Very fun. With luck, our intrepid heroes will be able to use this to their advantage and claim a happy ending… right?
SHINY!
So they locked the portals, broke the keys, closed their books and broke their staves. Good times.
*grins* the trouble with modern machines, you get them covered in fingerprints in 10 seconds flat.
Yay! Faster renders! (Until Scott yields to another bout of perfectionism coming in five… four… Kidding, just kidding.) By the way, that little shiny button on page 1490 is still there for those willing to help with the third computer.
Now, on to TWC news. Things hang in the balance there. We’re #5 with 1,747 votes. #4 has 1,769, still just a tiny bit ahead, which is good. But #6 has come dangerously close with 1,724 votes.
Vote, fellow Dreamies! Every single mouse click can tip the scales.
I hope the graphic card actualy supports two monitors…
… last time I saw card with dvi AND vga connectors, it was just alternative connector (with the convertor on-board).
Fingers crossed!
Great – Scott, but Doc looks a bit mean, or angry, doesn’t he?
Actually, there was a big fire in the Nightmare Realm, and the denizens, owning nothing but their weapon, grabbed it and escaped through the portal. Only to be struck down by Ramses II and his hordes. 🙂
Regarding the second video connector, Dell makes a DVI splitter (Dell Model H9361) to connect two DVI monitors, its called a DMS-59 connector. Surprised it didn’t come with the splitter.
Looks like scott was watching something with Billy Bob Thorton in it while he was working on Doc there. There are shadows of his face in there.
Rendered a scene from Dreamland last night.
Old computer:
2:39 hours
New computer:
1:09 hours
Not a HUGE leap…but still twice as fast.
I’ve been wondering why Abaddon went along with the plan to help Ramses and humanity, it seemed out of character based on what we know. Now, it becomes clear…
You continue to paint my childhood. Thank you for that.
YAY to that!
I’m very glad to hear this, such things do help to lower the overall stress levels, wouldn’t you agree?
(On the other hand… now you have only half as much time to do those other things you need to do, before the computer calls for you to create another page again… right? ;D )
I found a picture of Lord Abaddon! 🙂

WOOT! DOC BROWN!!
“Do you know what this means?? It means this d*&# thing doesn’t work!”
Oh to have a time traveling DeLorean of my own… maybe someday… maybe someday…
1.5 hrs less not a big leap?? O_0 That’s 2.19547xxx times faster.. I’d call that a resounding success! 😀
Now hook-up the second one, separate some threads ( i believe I saw some tools here&there to separate passes to multiple machines. Don’t call me on that. Been out of the whole rendering-thing since 3dMax 3.xx) and go lightspeed…
On the story..sooooo…there are “portals” hm hm..
My idea with the fan-fiction was as follows: only places that really mean a lot to people, especially places where love was expressed, can be connected (with some nicked magic) to dreamland. In case of the fan-fic, it was a classic iron parkbench with a plaque, remembering some old, deep all-encompassing love between two people.
Hence my surprise at Niviene’s pool. No physical transport, but really close, and alsoconnected by love. In this case the love of a dreamlander for an earthling….cool development. Opens possibilities…
And we begin to see why Nic thinks it is such a bad idea. Nice to know ole’ nic was not “just” being a jerk.
I have a sense of several influences here at work.
– Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
– Hellboy
– The Mummy Returns*
– Stargate
I can’t wait to be able to afford ALL of these books and read them to my nieces/nephews and my own kids when I get them. Great stuff.
I always thought that Doc looked that way when he was considering a bit of information he just heard…but maybe that was just how I remembered thinking of his when I was a kid seeing these movies for the first time. 🙂 Doc Brown always made me nervous (until the third movie…when I adored him).
Hmmm…maybe…maybe not. Nic was aligned with the Nightmare Realm when he conspired against Arthur. I’m actually wondering if Abaddon told Nic that the humans attacked him instead of giving the whole truth…that he invaded our world. Maybe that’s how he convinced Nic to believe that humans are evil, grasping fiends…and maybe that’s why Nic got upset when Arthur began working to bring humans to Dreamland. He perhaps thought it would be a “second war started by humans.”
Then again, it’s possible Nic’s still just a jerk. 😛
So… Now we know there may be a way for Nicole to actually go see Felicity, and for Dan to become the rightful king (via Alex giving him the sword necklace), while Alex himself takes an extended vacation (permanent?) in Dreamland, in the company of (married to?) Nastajia.
Now all we need is to find which old Egyptian ruins have the portals, ascertain that they are still working, and figure a cover story to explain to the authorities why X number of people came into Egypt, but none came out…
Simple, no?
I’m really enjoying how the hieroglyphics are coming out. 🙂
Don’t forget to vote! We’re #4 today!
Before I read who it was, I thought of Ricardo Montalban.
So , now, we must have twice more updates !
making a treaty with the nightmare realm is never a good thing.
You wrote that story from a few days ago? Well done. Looking forward to part two.
Except for human kids (and Alex… so, human kids) can still get through when they sleep… this is getting more and more interesting with every new plot question!
