Couple things…
1) Thank you ALL for the emails regarding the Android app that’s been going around with Dreamland and other webcomics on it.
I’ve contacted the creator of the app…and hopefully he’ll do the right thing and take Dreamland down.
2) I realized as I was doing today’s page that Niviene needed her staff to make it into our world.
So I’ve re-rendered yesterday’s first panel and need to add it in.
Feel free to check back on that in an hour.
3) I painted Carson from Downton Abbey.
Wow… This screams of all sorts of implications…
So that raises and interesting question. If Daniel does end up as the King of Dreamland, as Niviene appears to believe, what happens with Alex? Will they both end up able to go to Dreamland eventually? I have a feeling that Merlin will be shedding some light on that subject. I can’t imagine that Alex and Nastajia will end up separated again. That would utterly destroy her I bet. Heh. What if Merlin finds a way to turn Nastajia into a human and she ends up staying in the “Waking” world with Alex? That would make for an interesting twist.
o-okay, Niviene–kinda pushing the point, there.
Of course, we don’t really have anything other than her word to suggest that Niviene is acting in good faith.
What if, for instance, she had learned that the only way to “un-tree” Merlin was with a healthy dose of dragon magic. If it took earning a favor from our favorite dragon to free the love of her life after a thousand years… ;o)
Heeheehee…poor awkward Dan. 🙂
I don’t see Nastajia going anywhere until her folks are found… if they’re found. She’s far to responsible a person to leave her people.
She loves the drama, I guess. Plus, I believe she actually really is pleasantly surprised meeting someone who is descendant to King Arthur.
Ah, please remember that there is a difference between a successor and a descendant… one does not imply the other. In fact, it’s been established, already, that the various kings of Dreamland are NOT descendants from one another… Arthur is not a descendant of Julius Caesar, nor is the latter a descendant of King Solomon of the Bible…
Daniel and Alex are not necessarily descendants, just successors.
The Sword of Kings chooses a worthy successor from any culture, not just blood relations.
As his character stands right now, Daniel lacks the ambition to displace his brother as King of Dreamland. And Nastajia and her allies would not be receptive to another usurper, regardless of how legitimate he might be.
Hope Nicole doesn’t suspect that Niviene will be his paramour once he ascends the throne.
Will he enter Dreamland tonight from that pool??
That is somewhat bugging me, as well… Alex has already been recognized by the sword as the king of Dreamland. Niviene knows that. She understands how it came to be that way, and how, had not Arthur been alive all this time, Dan would have been the one who would have become king, rather than Alex. But it’s already a fait accompli.
So while Dan may be “he who would have been king”, is he really the “true king” of Dreamland? The same rule which kept him from entering Dreamland before is still keeping him out of Dreamland now, namely that there is a current king of Dreamland who is alive (Alex).
Sure, Dan can take on an advisory position, from here, but is it right and proper to call him a king? Isn’t that a bit disrespectful of Alex? Wasn’t she already in the presence of the true king of Dreamland, after all those centuries, when she met Alex?
OR, it requires a blood sacrifice from……….THE TRUE KING OF DREAMLAND!!!! dun-dun-duuuuuuuun!

TWC #8 with 4,687 votes. Yay! You folks are fantastic.
Can we triple our efforts and bring The Dreamland Chronicles to the place where they truly belong? We’ll never learn unless we try. VOTE NOW, and come what may. For Scott and Dreamland!
Alex may have told her about the “Lady of the Lake’ legend, and she might be having fun playing the role of the supernatural demi-goddess of Camelot. Also, don’t forget, this is Daniel’s first face to face meeting with a Dreamlander: I imagine she wants to make it special…
Doubt it. If it were possible for waking world people to enter Dreamland via the Pool, Merlin would have done that instead of using astral projection. It would appear the Pool works this way only for Dreamlanders who have the magic to allow it.
Was it just me, or did I hear a voice crack on the first ‘thank’?
Uh, Dan? …Eyes front, soldier. Your girlfriend might get the wrong idea.
Alex also seems to assume that when they find a way for Dan to come to Dreamland that he’ll take over the king business (page 1445 http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/chapter-17/page-1445/).
Technically, Daniel is on a hillbank looking downwards towards the water, Niviene is currently at a lower height to them, being partially underwater.
If Daniel was looking forward, his gaze would be over Niviene’s head.
My first thought of seeing her pop up out of the water (holding Merlin’s staff, no less) was something along the lines of “Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station!” (followed immediately by “It’s a trap!”)
Called it, oh so long ago 😀
After reading chapter-08/page-471, I was like… why is so much effort being put into trying to get Daniel specifically into Dreamland ?
Or rather, why does it look like much effort had been put into preventing Daniel from entering Deamland ?
Excellent story-telling, Scott ^_^
It all started in chapter-08/page-471…
But Merlin DID go into dreamland via his pool… we saw him as a merman (with his cloak still on, rather than bare-chested). The reason he stayed on earth and was treed, was to try to look for Arthur in the land between worlds…
Leeloo Dallas Multi-pass!
Sorry… it’s instinctual. Like a dog barking at the doorbell.
FIRE WHEN READY, COMMANDER.
*que dramatic music, lazor powerup montage*
they may want daniel to be king, but it’s alex’s sword. if he gives it up he stops coming to dreamland. remember what they tried with nicole?
I didn’t think anything of her not having the staff before because the first time she came through she didn’t have Merlin’s staff. It makes sense that she would use it, though, to be able to stay longer and potentially bring the others across, too, as it obviously adds to her power.
WAIT! You mean Nastajia’s parents /weren’t/ just being incredibly nice and caring? Like, there was some dark under plot? As far as his not being allowed into Dreamland, that’s because Nick wanted to rule forever without having to be usurped by the next human king. ……wasn’t it? How deep does the Nightmare Realm’s corruption really spread…? Nanchate ne.
Thank you! As I was reading these, I kept hoping someone would make this point! Finally!! 😉
