Page 1432…
Happy Monday, All!
I want to apologize for the SOPA description in my blog.
Apparently, in my rush to get on a plane to Orlando (I had to go for a 3 day meeting), I copied and pasted the description (and even the Mr. Burns image) from Gizmodo and many of you thought I wrote it.
I just want to apologize for not giving credit. I had no idea anyone would think I knew so much about Sopa…or had the literary talent to write it so succinctly.
Either way. There it is. I did NOT write that. And I apologize for leading anyone to think that I did.
It was NOT my intent. I was just in a rush to get my pages up…and get out of the door.
Okay. Now that THAT’S out of the way…I hope you enjoy this week’s pages.

“I’d break through the barrier on the water and the monitor of everyone reading this comic.” Sorry for the spoilers for tomorrow’s page. 😛
I couldn’t resist. She looks like she’s about to break the fourth wall and enter OUR world.
He teaches her to become a blonde?!? 😀 I like gingers.
The cutest characters in dreamland: nieviene & merlin.
Even Alex, the main character, have less charisma.
Ah, that’s good of you to clarify– I guess I change my comment to ‘good taste in material to present. ; )’ Oooh what did they open a portal..? O.O
I am, and probably always will be, smitten with Princess Nastajia (at her current age).
” so that one day…”
‘Summon Bigger Fish!’
*Arrrgh*
Quite suitably, “sopa” is the singular form of “garbage” in Swedish. 😀
It would be something you would yell to an underperforming sportsman, or your running partner as you outrun him/her. 🙂 Preferably jokingly.
(It is also imperative form of “to sweep”.)
So… you unintentionally pirated your anti-SOPA message? 😀 That is… quite appropriate. 😉 Dreamland Chronicles is an awesome comic by the way. Keep up the great work!
Probably not so much as cute, as mysterious.
Next Page:
Niviene: Soniiiiiiiiiiiiiiic, BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!
Merlin: Buh… I never taught you that… @_@
Seriously though kudos for explaining the SOPA article Scott, and in fact ironically enough it’s quite poignant, as according to the rules of SOPA a simple oversight like that could result in this entire site being taken down. Ridiculous, of course, but then, that’s SOPA in a nutshell, so again, good point well made. 😉
So that one day… at band camp…
That’s not blonde, silly! 🙂 I wouldn’t even say that that color is near blonde since there’s still so much pinkish/red in it. 🙂
Well, you did say you pirated the SOPA material in a comment on that day’s page. 🙂 Anyone who didn’t know you’d pulled it from another place just didn’t read far enough.
As for today’s page…the suspense is killing me! 😀
Sopa means soup in Spanish . . . not sure if there’s anything really clever to make out of that.
Willy Wonka: The suspense is terrible. I hope it’ll last.
They are still practicing magic–of at least two kinds.
Falcon PUNCH! 😀
It could be watery I guess… Or maybe drown flies in it… Iunno
Either that or cabbage and anchovy soup…
Tomorrow’s page is taking a LONG amount of time to render as one frame has a LOT of grass.
Hopefully render will be done by early morning so I can put the page together after kids go to school.
We’ll wait, as long as necessary. But not patiently, I’m afraid.
I thought that on the earlier scenes she stuck her head out of the water, but now the surface of the water is the barrier between both worlds.
I have to say I agree about Merlin, but then I always have been a fan of Merlin wherever he appears (Lost Years, anyone?). I don’t get the appeal of Nivienne – but then I didn’t see how Galadriel in the movie fit the books’ description of being beautiful, either.
Her magic looks ‘electrical’…..which wouldn’t mix well with water. But since this is Dreamland and you can talk underwater, I guess other principles don’t apply either.
Looks to me like the same effect as Merlin is doing in the first panel, which hardly looks electrical… The only difference between the two, is that we are seeing hers through the “lens” of the water between them…
mmm. must be an awful lot of grass. beware allergens!
Thank you all for your patience.
The renders have been killing me.
I don’t know if you noticed…but the grass looks really good compared to previous grass.
I’m pushing these computers really hard. And they’re not taking it very well.
But in my effort to continually improve upon the art…I hate to have to go backwards.
I should have a new page up in the morning. Everything is done (and I’ve already set Thursday’s page into motion) and I’m just waiting for one last bit.
Sounds like it might be time to upgrade soon. I wonder how doable that’d be to do.
Sometimes the best details are the one’s so good/natural you don’t notice them. Same goes for design. 😉
I would wager money that even people that didn’t notice the grass fidelity recently WOULD notice if you pulled it back for rendering ease. Annoying perhaps, but it’s that attention to detail that makes Dreamland awesome after all, patience is a virtue etc. 😉
Exactly true, A.C. Scott, if you need some help figuring out your new computers (which I doubt you do, but just putting it out there), I’m really good at finding good deals on Newegg. Let me know your budget for each computer and what you want from it and I’ll see what I can do.
Thank you guys.
I DO indeed need an upgrade.
Financially, though….that’s not a possibility at this time.
Have you looked into a render farm? Sometimes you can rent space on one, or even find a free one. And depending upon whether or not your 3d software supports it you might even be able to enlist some of your readers as a render farm similar to how Folding@Home or SETI@Home work. Its been awhile but I remember reading about distributed render farms at one point and thought the tech sounded cool.
It’s also a misspelling of ‘soap’ in English. Who knew…
She must have gotten one helz of a sore neck from staring upwards for hours during those lessons, especially if it was every day for months.
