Unfortunately…Kiwi gets clobbered.
I was going to say “Me!”, but I don’t recall ever practicing magic by a lake in France. Hmm…Merlin would be my second choice.
No fair! ;p – I tweeted my answer – Merlin, also. Hope you’re having a fabulous day!
MY first thought was “Hans Solo” but .. he’s only magic with the ladies. Then I thought maybe it was a young Jean Luc Picard but figured maybe the hair was a bit thick.
My final answer would have to be Lu Kang.
Holey hubba hubba, Batman!
Is this Merlin?
*apparently his good looks distracted me enough to misspell “holy” X^D
I hate to dissapoint but Merlin has pointed ears, not unlike an elf – if you skip back to chapter 15 you may see this, my guess is…
She’s Merlin’s mother?
It’s Threegill Forestpatch. Wandering elf of the hinterland forests of Ullyully.
Merlin and Nivie sittin’ in a tree,
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
First comes love, then comes marriage,
then comes Arthur in a baby carriage! π
well, the obvious answer would be Merlin. Which means I’m probably wrong. π
Merlin was part Vulcan! How did I miss that?!
So, your thinking this is Balinor, Merlin’s father.
Actually, the Welsh Legend doesn’t name a father (Balinor is from the TV Series). The Legend has many conflicting stories from no father, fathered by an angel, devil/demon or incubus.
One must still also consider that Merlin was a druid title, a position held by a druid. Or in today’s world of magic and illusion it is a title bestowed/awarded to an outstandingly recognized magician.
Merlin! No, Dumbledore! Wait! I know! GANDOLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*like*
Hey, Merlin was my first thought…
Thanks for the CCFF link, Scott!
The only problem with it being Merlin is that none of the legends have him spending time in France. And the legends say he was born of a human mother, so that can’t be his dad.
So I say it is Merlin’s GRANDFATHER. Who, had a girl with the Lady of the Lake who ended up Merlin’s mother. π
I’ve just noticed that Nivienne is now the current owner of this “dashing” man’s staff. It must definitely mean that these two will be having some contact very shortly.
He’s in France, by a lake. So I’ll guess Launcelot du Lac.
Check this page if you do not believe it though.

Skeeve The Great?

Hint:

Sir Owain. The Knight of the Lion himself. Hence the Lion motif on the marble before the sea serpents attacked.
Lancelot du Lac? maybe. or Arthur Pendragon
Sir Owain was in some literiture believed to be the son of Morgan le Fey, hence his magical ability, which he may have decided to keep quiet.
The most logical conclusion would seem to be Merlin or as Rich suggested a relative of Merlin, given the whole magic thing. I wonder how she ended up getting his staff…
CCFF charity drive is awesome by the way, such a cool idea. Thanks for the heads up Scott! π
I think the Chapter 17 page is a big hint. Just sayin’… π
Which is to say the Cover of this chapter. Ehem…
Legolas! After his decision to switch careers and go brunette!
I can’t tell for sure from here….is that an oak tree behind the mystery man?
Coincidence?
Yowza, young Merlin is pretty cute! π
* bursts into helpless giggles in the middle of her school’s Caf* Oh, that is brilliant.
well, maybe now people will stop calling him a girl…….
The problem with naming one of the nights is that this fellow is “practicing his magic”–which pretty much narrows it down to a young Merlin, or else possibly a close relative (his father?)
OTOH, if she was truly mesmerized, maybe it was Franz Anton Mesmer?
And here I thought you were going to tell us it was Justin Bieber in a previous life…
lol thats good i have to say that thought never crossed my mind π
If not Merlin, Esclados?
The legend says he was the protector of the forest.
Upvote for you.
Last guess. Could it be Merlin’s teacher? Sometime called Taliesin or Myrddin? The 1992 animated TV series and subsequent SNES video game “King Arthur and the Knights of Justice” had a character named Blaise who was Merlin’s teacher.
actually slight correction Myrddin is simply the welsh spelling of Merlin so in effect Myrddin and Merlin are one and the same individual. Though it should be noted that it is theorized (as has been said) that the name Merlin or more accurately Myrddin is actually a title handed down from teacher to student amongst the then Welsh Druids, a title that may be analogous to the term Doctor in modern society. Taliesin on the other hand is often thought to have been the name of a renowned Bard which is a separate caste of welsh society, and would likely have had very little if anything to teach Myrddin.
Sorry, I am something of a person who loves Celtic Mythology of all flavors so I kind of like knowing this stuff. Though Scott, I will admit that link you keep popping in here, I had never heard of that one before, so thanks for the info!
Hmm, I like the idea of it being a title, but there is still a chance that he is a form of Balinor/ magic daddy of Merlin π
I knew I’d seen it somewhere… thanks!
I love this comment! π
whether it’s Merlin or one of his ancestors, he’s DELICIOUS! please please please scott, let’s have this character play a MAJOR role from here on in?
Isint this just arthur him self?? :p
This could be a younger version of Merlin by any chance? Otherwise I’ll have to say he could be a descendant of Alex and Daniel!
“one of the knights” [Sheesh! you really should proofread these things better!]
Foiled by Wikipedia again! π
This is what happens when you try to research something like this while working….
It could just be a unique aging thing for Merlin.
