Happy Thursday!
Thank you all for allowing me the luxury to spend time with family this week.
I look forward to getting back to regular updates in 2012!
Have a wonderful New Year!
Scott
Wait, could I actually be first? π
You’re Welcome Scott. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
I haven’t been called Nivienne since, oh… before you were born. π
A “Star Wars” reference. Nice.
+1
I think you have it backward, Scott. Thank you for allowing us the luxury of an update despite the fact that you are spending time with family! Hope that you had a great Christmas, and that you have a great New Year as well.
Great minds
Wonderful update. Thank you for the Christmas wishes. I hope you have a Happy New Year. Kudos to the family.
She seems friendly!
Waiting to see an elegant weapon for a more civilized time, not as clumsy as those talking swords.
Beat me to making the same joke.
Yet they will be one in the same in purpose.
Scott, thanks for taking some time away from your family during the holidays to give us all some added fun. Really enjoying the story-line, and the art continues to amaze!
You’ll notice, though, she didn’t say “Yes”. When dealing with mythic persons you have to watch their words carefully, because stories suggest they know how to lie by letting you make assumptions…
Hundreds of years!!! Okay, she is either immortal or an illusion spell. Which means she is either very old looking (notice I didn’t say hag or old bag), or she is something entirely different and the spell just lets her look like a mermaid.
What’s the lifespan of a mer-person?
Wait! I just answered my own question; until they get eaten.
But I was really asking about their life span without the incident of an accident or disease.
If she is Niviene, then she must be from Arthur’s time–which in this universe is around 1400 (I forget the exact date), and so must be 600 or so years old. Which leaves only the question of how she managed to stay young–my guess is magic, natch.
But perhaps she is only ‘The Lady of the Lake’, a title like king, duke, prince. Which would mean she may not be immortal, just the current bearer of the title and responsibilities.
No the Mer king already said that Merlin had taught her how to stay young. The question to me is where is Merlin. I mean if you have a hot young girl friend and you know how to not age, why would you leave her along and age yourself? I assume that the amulet that they made actually got made and he has been staying with her. I mean it would get old only having neighbors that want to eat you for company.
There are a variety of stories concerning the Lady and Merlin. In the older ones, she was his student, learned his secrets, then betrayed him and trapped him alive for all eternity in a tree, stone, cave, or crystal, taking his place as Arthur’s adviser. Newer stories offer variants on that, ranging from her being the real power behind Arthur and Merlin merely a tool, to they being lovers and her taking him away from the world of Men to live with her forever, or – alternatively – he falling deadly ill and she saving him by sealing him into an unchanging limbo. We’ll have to see what the truth is. But one constant in the stories is that Niviene had Merlin last. She might still have him.
Staying young and being immortal can be two different things.
The Queen in Grimm’s Fairy Tales wanted to be immortal, but forgot about staying youthful. The reverse can be true too.
“youΒ΄re the lady of the lake?”
yes captain obvious, she is.
+5, Mighty
The ceremony that would have given Merlin the ability to go between both worlds was interrupted when Arthur was doing it, remember? So, the amulet wouldn’t have allowed him to be in Dreamland, at least, that’s how I understood this to work. http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/chapter-15/page-1131/
She looks kinda sad in the second panel. It must be lonely, living for hundreds of years without anyone to talk to or visit or anything. I’d have gone nuts! I like her.
Am I the only one who noticed Nastajia’s hand rather close to Alex’s cute bum? Calling dibs on it, Nastajia? Too bad it’s rather hidden beneath the fish tail.
No pages at all while you spent time with your family would have been more then acceptable, Scott, just so you know. Family always comes first.
And she locked away the stone with the sword into a lake. She was tasked with keeping the stone safe inside the lake, “until the time has come for a king to be”.
“Lady of the lake”
New baddies can do that. “welcome, the spider said to the fly”
Are we not all a very big Family? … so who go’s first? … π
Just Kidding, Scott, The best wishes for 2012.
Unless you go with the movie Excalibur…in which case Morgan La Fey trapped him, not Niviene.
Maybe we already covered this but, how DO you say “Niviene” aloud? Niv-ee-en?
Hope your New Year is filled with Happiness, Scott!
And the same to all Scott’s readers, as well!
Hmm, you know it was rumored that her and Merlin had … Let’s say a really close relationship. It would be interesting if Alex got a little payback from earlier if Niv showed some interest in him.
Just beautiful pages these days ….keep ’em coming!
It was unclear to me reading that section if the ritual had completed the bracelet or not, the spell was not finished and Arthur was trapped, but what happened to the bracelet was unclear to me.
Looks French to me, making it Nih-VYEN. YMMV.
shes found also how did merlin teach her magic if he couldnt come to dream land as an adult did he teach her as a kid ?
2012!
Happy New Year to you all!
HAPPY
NEW
YEAR!
My question is: “Why is their hair still perfect even underwater?!”
It’s the magic of Dreamland. Water isn’t wet here.
There’s another question that bothers me, though. Is her hair made out of chocolate cream, or is it just me being hungry?
Happy New year!
Thank you all for a wonderful 2011!
Happy new year everyone!
Nah… it’s just you… Looks more like chocolat icing, to me… π
Wow… just finished reading through the ENTIRE archives… wow… just wow…
happy NEW YEAR!
Welcome!
π
Hey all!
Render for Monday’s page is running a bit long.
It’s 11:30pm on Sunday night. I’m a light weight.
The twins are usually up at 6:30 am. So I’ll get the page up in the morning.
Promise.
See you in a few hours.
Scott
Hmm. So, what’s the chance that she is actually a nice mermaid Obi-Wan type character whom we can trust completely, hmm? I dunno, she looked like she could be a slightly more cunning giant fish who just needs a good meal.
I think the other way around. Magic seems to be more common in Dreamland than in our Awakeland.
It’s just that with his human curiosity and inventiveness, Merlin pushed the borders of what Magic can do a bit further than the normal Dreamlander would use magic for, and thus he was able to teach some younger Dreamlanders a bit about magic.
Has Scott even DONE that yet?
I don’t think he really likes that sorta thing.
I bet she’s as friendly as she looks. Unless she starts asking them all sorts of questions, then, in which case, she only saved them for answers. Light mages usually tend to be good guys.
Changed my mind. I’m NOW betting she turns out to be Morgana. π
Yeah, friendly. Like the guy in the Free Candy truck.
