Page 1285…
Happy Wednesday, All!
So…things have been SUPER busy here.
I’m not even sure how I’m getting pages done. And I’m CERTAIN I’m not happy with these pages.
But…this is such an important part of the story…I don’t want you all to wait while I tweak minor details.
I hope you’re enjoying. And I’ll see if I can make more pages show up this week.
In the meantime…I was a guest on my buddies’ show yesterday. Here’s the link.
ALEX!! I’ll give up my haddock dinner if the mermaids save him and drown Nick!
Whew, I didn’t realize it’s just water they’re falling into. He’ll be fine.
Oh, I’m very glad this isn’t Friday’s page. O.o
Normally falling into water from that height is the same as falling onto concrete, but being Dreamland the laws of physics must bow before the will of plot and the laws of dramatics, and plot seems to favor soft water (further narrative) and the laws of dramatics favor the whole fall, and softness or hardness of water is less important. 🙂
Ditto! O__o
Heh, nice! 🙂
Wonder if Alex is about to get snogged by a mermaid again…
That’s what I was thinking.
Nick is sort of invincible, and Alex is on top of him, so, Alex won’t be harmed, and somehow Nick will live.
It would be so cool if there where bad mermaids who helped Nick.
Normally a fall into water from that hight would be deadly except for two things. Alex’s armor will shield him somewhat, but more important Nico is holding Alex above him which means Nico will both slow down Alex’s landing and break the surface tension of the water. Alex might still get knocked out and drown since he is not wearing his helmet, but he should survive the landing.
Or he could just wake up…
Not to mention Nic is taking the brunt of the impact. And Alex is wearing armor. Hmm, I suppose Elven armor is weightless under water? Rustproof? And yes, looking forward to some mer-people interaction here.
I thought that’s what he might do.
It seemed to have no problems last time he visited the merpeople.
Here mer people… come get the tasty dragon meat!
Woo, BIG splash!!
Well, yes, Nic hit the wreckage in the water first and took the impact of any sharp edges there might be, which will certainly help. But from that height in the real world, the deceleration shock, and the blunt force trauma, would probably still be fatal to Alex. But we’re NOT in the real world, and Alex has survived being swung by Nic like a tether ball and slammed into walls, as well as having a multi ton dragon land on him. His armor is REALLY something, even without a helmet; and if the shock doesn’t break his neck, and Nic lets go so he can get to the surface (or the mer-people come and convert him to a water breather again), he should make it.
Hopefully.
Attention all merpeople: SAVE ALEX!!!
Dragons can’t Swim – can they?
More worried about the ton (literally) of debris landing on Alex and that Nick still Has him.
Now would be a really good time to wake up.
Bit early to kill off the two main characters, especially Alex- but I’d like to see Nick get out of this one. He was coughing so I bet Staj hit a lung or something. All it takes is breathing flame and Nick gets major blowback through his respiratory system.
Alex was sorta transparent a couple/few panels ago, -think I saw the clouds through his hand, so may be waking up -but Staj’s hand is sorta seethrough, due to probably a shadow.
Two things that I thought of when I saw this page. The first was that I was wondering how mad Nastajia would be at him if the mermaids saved him again by kissing him (she looked mad the first time, and now there relationship has deepened). The second was that I thought it was a good thing that Nicodemus had his wings out to slow down their fall.
Ok, where are the two meremaids that thought Alex was cute?
Anyone else saw this coming?
You couldn’t hear him from this view shown in this comic, but Nic was quoting Herman Melville’s MOBY DICK to Alex as they hit the water:
“…to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee.”
sic transit gloria Nicodemus
That was my thought too. Most of the kingdoms of dreamworld had units in the battle. Why leave out the mers?
On the other hand the nightmare realm may have tiger sharks, sting rays, and giant eels stationed at Astoria. The Kraken’s pissed off mother could also be down there…
Alexander is going to have salt water poured into four large gashes in his chest. The expression on his face is not likely to inspire jealousy.
Also they will be below the waves and probably out of sight.
Yus, yay for soft water! Don’t want limestone stains on Alex’s armor. (get it? hard water stains. Badum-ching)
And yay for Nick cushioning Alex from water impact! Peter Griffin survived a 50 story fall by landing on top of the giant chicken when they fought in Family Guy. :p
Nick will absorb the shock.
Simple physics.
I KNEW THEY WHERE FALLING INTO WATER GO ME =DDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually dragons can swim if youve ever seen Dragonheart I
Dragon swims underwater
Nic would probably cushion the fall, but in that last panel before the big splash down there appears to be a very big slab of stone falling right above the both of them. No matter how much the compression of a dragon’s rib-cage affects Alex’s acceleration, he is still going to have a very large stone slab land on top of him.
we all know alex is going to survive, not sure about nick though, not only being stabbed though the chest, but also taking the full impact of the fall and being crashed by debris. if this does not kill him, he sure going to wake up sore in the morning.
Actually Mythbusters debunked that one, having something fall in front in water of you doesn’t reduce the fall. Nic would slow down because of the water’s hardness and Alex would crash into him, which is just as bad.
Physics aside, anything goes for the story. I would however see many opportunities in Alex “dying” in dreamland and having to win back his entry rights somehow, or maybe his brother takes over since he should be king and all.
I love the mythbusters, they do such crazy things… and seem to always blow something up (favorite episodes!)
🙂
y didn’t nick just fly?
I wonder who WILL emerge? Alexander or Nick..?
That first pannel wins. At everything. Forever.
That is also what I was thinking.
Fourths
Yep. Fateful fall=inevitable plot twist.
Now we just need to see exactly where Scott is going with this. There’s still a few distinct possibilities.
M Bison: YES!
Wow thts a big splash!!!
Well then time to call in the reinforcements…aka ze Mermaids!
I mean I’m sure they don’t want Alex to die…..right…..?
I will say this much. I did not expect this. There was a story, that went on without fail, where many other stories have gone, that would have been fun to see. And then there is this. I do not know where the story will go from here. I like it when authors catch me flat footed. Good job. 🙂
A previous commentator said our hero would wake up and be fine… word of warning: never tell a writer what they are going to do next. Stories’ futures can be changed.
I’m kinda thinking he wakes up before the fall and someone Nick gets pulled along with him into the real world.
*somehow
In the town
where I was born
lived a dragon
who fell into the sea
And he told us of his life
in the land of submarines
WE ALL LIVE IN A YELLOW SUBMARINE
HELLO!!!!
Why aren’t either of them flying? they both can at least attempt to do so.
Nic’s got a hole through him and might not be up to flying anymore, so to speak. Alex is in Nic’s grasp and, unless he can break it, or fly hard enough to pull Nic along too, going down is inevitable…
“Jamie wants big boom!”
They doggie paddle! ^_^
Plus, Alex is recovering from being slammed a few times by Nic, so he may not have all of his wits about him.
But Nicodemus is basically hugging him close to his body. Can’t crash into something if you’re skin to skin with it can you?
I wonder if Alex can swim in that armor?
As most have already stated, Nic is probably too injured to fly. And to answer the other question likely to follow, Alex is too weak himself to get away even in Nic’s weakened state.
YES! DIE ALEX! DIE! DIE! DIE!
I imagine when the sword went through Nicks back it did at least SOME damage to his spine
NO! That’s mean!
A YELLOW SUBMARINE, YELLOW SUBMARINE! I love the Beatles as much as Dream Land. R.I.P. John Lennon. Also I am glad you said that!
and recovering from being slashed by Nic’s claws
I’d vote for swimming like serpents (lizards) or crocodiles, whichever they are actually more closely related to.
Well I’m thinking as with any dream you always wake up just before you go splat.
Nick will be very angry and were going to see a very shocked couple when Alex wakes up screaming. Then it’s Friday and we will have another cliffhanger till Monday.
“Run, you fools.”
Hey Scott,
I hope you and your family are save after the huge storm hit TN, AL, MS, etc. …
Hope you didn’t have it that nasty!
Be safe all of you,
LZ
Thank you.
The storms were north and south of us. We came out okay.
🙂
Hi all!
Sorry for the delay with the pages.
With the storms and all…it got pretty hectic.
I WILL have a page for Friday. But it will be late morning.
Please check back. And thanks for your patience.
Scott
Would love the fan pleaser art of mer-Nicodemus.
I finally Made it to the current page! We all Live in a yellow submarine it is true! And so We Sailed, into a void, where we found, the land of dreams. and we lived, into the sky, in our yellow, submarine.
A big fat mermaid will kiss Nic, take him to her lair and nurse him to health, and next chapter will be about Nics attempts to escape her smothering love.
What if it turns out dragons breathe underwater? (or worse, that they don’t breathe at all?)
How creepy is it that you think alike and use the same avatar?
I had to read through all 70+ comments to make sure someone hadn’t said something like this before.
That’s what I was thinking.
I’ve got ‘Real Love’ playing in my head instead. Remember that clip with a white grand piano?
Mermaid time! Now, does a mermaid need dragon scale luggage? Hmmm…
The mer-folk had a dragon of there own to get rid of…the Kraken. They won’t be looking for a replacement. Alex is far more likely to get some TLC from them.
It’d be a neat touch if the city at the top of the site’s airship dock showed the battle damage from this part of the story, if only for a little while.
Er.. apparently it was Friday’s page… and Thursday’s page 🙁
There is not a single scene – ever – in Family Guy that can serve as an example of good physics.
(It’s still a fun show to watch, though … )
😉
Well, Alex by himself would survive the fall with full armor, that’s how the merfolk found him.
*Crosses fingers and hopes the merfolk kiss Ole Nick*
What? I want to see a Mer-dragon!
Nic ain’t a Lagiacrus, if that’s your worry.
