Yep, lots of parts flying and hopefully Alex will be flying soon too.
Now I’m wondering if you can dream inside of dreamland? Perhaps Alex will receive some guidance while comatose.
Somehow, I don’t think that Alex is having a “dream within a dream” right now. After all, this isn’t Scrooge McDuck in Don Rosa’s “Dream of a Lifetime!” Oh, and some movie that I forgot what its called. 🙂
Interesting. I didn’t realize exactly where the battle had travelled to. I should have gottent he clue from the obelisk falling in an earlier page.but I didn’t get it. Anyone else?
Would this be a bad time for Alex to wake up?
“Hey, bro, Nick’s history but I’m plummeting to my death”
“Can’t you fly now?”
“I can? Hey, that’s right, I can!”
Dream within a dream? Nastajia had better hurry and implant the idea of flying in Alex’s head before it’s too late!
Disney Villian Death (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DisneyVillainDeath) except I don’t think he’ll die. I think he’ll come back reborn, fully healed, and a robot! Wait, I’m thinking of Ridley. Will she make it in time???
Obelisk? Had to go back to chapter 6 to even figure out why the obelisk was a hint. So I very much missed it as well.
Phew, thanks so much Jakesdad, I was really worried I was the only one that didn’t quite see this coming. Of course, I knew the ground was breaking, hand had noticed the obelisk, but I still didn’t realize they’d traveled to THAT part either. I’m kind of glad I didn’t figure it out though, as this page was a real surprise as a result! ^_^
Will Nastajia grab him, or will he regain consciousness in time to fly to safety himself? And just what exactly goes through the mind of one who’s effectively unconscious within a dream where in the real world he’s practically brain dead anyway!?!
(Heh, Inception has NOTHING on Scott! :P)
Find out next time in Scott Pilg… I mean Christian Sava’s Dreamland Chronicles!!! O_O
Well, if there is no body, there is no death. That IS the most known universal comic rule.
Haven’t they all taken a dive here once? Granted, the Meer-folk wouldn’t be overjoyed with all the stones falling on their heads, not to mention quite a log of (probably) organic waste, but otherwise…
If Alex passes out or goes to sleep in dreamland, does he get to go to where Arthur is in some dream within a dream? Is Leo DiCaprio also there?
i hope he dont wake up as he falls…….
_I_ got bashed for remembering an unnamed extra. You guys remember an OBELISK?!?!? 😀 That’s even WORSE than an “unnamed extra”, ROFL! X-D
Dangit… now I need to check out chapter six just to see what you are talking about…
cheesy end of fight is cheesy end of fight. I suspected this six pages ago and was only waiting for it.
Wait, wait… how (and when?) on earth did we end up on the pier? Just before Nic got punched into a building, I could have sworn we were on the same street where Nicole and Felicity got caught stealing as kids. And that looked like right beneath the castle!
And the stairs – there have been stairs leading into the walls, or cellars… there shouldn’t be any cellars in the pier structure, should there??? I feel quite disrupted.
Somebody mentioned the pillar… all I can remember from the pier scene is the long pic where everyone is running towards the end of the pier.
Now I need to go back and re-read a _lot_ of pages… chapters… and maybe more. Hm. I wish I didn’t have work to do… :-/ ’cause I really don’t have the time. :,(
Heh,,I was waiting for this ,since I noticed all sorts of rocks and masonnery crumble in the background for the last few pages..
Well, I really didn’t see this one coming…
hoping that Kiwi is nearby
If you do dream inside Dreamland, I’m pretty sure you become John Malkovich
Hey Nick, are you dead? I don’t want you to be, not yet, seems like the wrong way to go. Don’t you dare take Alex with you!
Back on page 1268 Nic tried to fly away and Alex followed him then knocked him out of the air. 1275 has a great top-down shot but is tight enough that you can’t really tell where they are. 1271 and 1272 have background that shows clouds so that was a hint that they were somewhere not surrounded by buildings. And no I did not remeber all that, I went bak and looked ’cause I was tyring to figure out how they got there, too.
Call me crazy, but I don’t think Nic is dead. Severely wounded, but not dead. Even if he is dead, this fight is far from over. Now Alex and crew have to get all the Nightmare Realm guys out and I don’t think they will go peacefully.
Loving the story!
I’m guessing Alex is out of sorts, so he can’t fly. Hope Nastajia doesn’t lose the sword!
The fight’s been moving around pretty vigorously. And as we saw before, the Palace is fairly close to the pier…
A dream inside a dream?
…But it’s not enough. To successfully plant the guidance?
We must go… deeper.
Oh. I hadn’t realized Alex was stunned and maybe even unconscious. No wonder Nastajia jumped in. As close as she was to Nic, though, I would have imagined she’d be going over, too. If she grabs Alex’s hand, she probably will be.
Mr. Sava said in his comments a few pages back that, ever since Alex drove the Sword into the ground, there’s been a crack widening on the pier and that he was going to go back and add panels to show that. That presaged that there might be SOME sort of collapse, but not that it would be this extensive or catastrophic…
Yes, the Mer-people probably COULD save Alex, IF there were any of them in the area of the pier (no sign that Alex and Nastajia recruited them for their army; which might have been a mistake, they could have smuggled fighters in on the unprotected water side), they realized what what happening, and they could pick Alex out of the wreckage raining down. Nic is probably on his own, he’d be too big for them to support on top of the water and he probably floats, anyway.
I think Nick is wounded but not dead. He’s gonna come back later… healed (with some nasty scars) and REALLY mad!! At least I hope so… 🙂
Can’t he just get saved by Mer again? Or would that be too undramatic?
Yeah, they’re in the exact same place that’s true, BUT… Nastajia herself hasn’t called them yet (using her horn, if I remember right) and I wonder, will Alex’s condition effect the spell used to turn him in any way? Still a valid possibility though, and it could still be dramatic if they’re late to get to him etc.
*goes back to chapter 6*
Oh.
… so that’s where they are.
Kinda far up.
Okay then.
/is slow.
If Alex doesn’t wake up or get saved and slashes into the water the mermaids will help him.
Perhaps he will come back as ‘Alexander The White’ ??
Last time all it took to summon them was to blow a conch. Hope Nastajia still has it… Naroobi’s just a short swim from there, I guess.
Agreed. I keep waiting for Nic to get up and do something.
Actually, if the top of the website is any replica at all of Astoria (which I’m pretty sure it is) the Palace is all the way on the other side of the pier. They’re nowhere near each other. The first big part, though (the explosion) would have sent them flying at least halfway across the city, so it’s very possible for them to have reached the other side of the city and all the way to the pier with how fierce the fight has been going.
Fly, you fools!
If you hadn’t told us in that blog post a couple of weeks back that they were fighting on a pier (and that we should have noticed it cracking), I’d have been pretty confused about how this happened.
It also took me longer than it should have to resolve the perspective of the last panel. At first, I thought Nastajia was falling (with what’s left of the pier having collapsed under her), reaching out to Alexander to wake up and catch her. Took closer examination to realize she’s running to him, hoping to catch him as he falls (or, failing that, to wake him up so he can fly and save himself – which I expect is what will happen).
There are plenty of clues, if you think about it. The position of her cloak (although that could also be the wind), the position of her legs (though that could also be flailing, trying to turn herself to grasp for the ledge), the position of her hair (though it’s wet and could just be sticking)… For me, it was the rain that finally managed to clearly establish which way was down.
Of course, if I’d been more awake and paying more attention to the middle panel, I’d have seen that Nic was falling, which meant Alex was holding on by one arm, which would have established what was happening in the next panel. Except that the rain in that panel appears to be falling sideways.
I’m not really sure if there’s anything that needs to be clarified, or if it’s just my sleepy brain being slow and easily confused (you have no idea how long it’s taking me to write this). With so much flying around and so much happening at once and so much call for shifting perspectives, it can be very hard to show everything in a way that makes it all clear.
In any case… wow, what a battle. Can’t wait to see how this turns out and what happens when the dust settles.
Well, this is a fine cliff-hanger (or pier-hanger if you like.) Scott’s already mentioned going back to make it a little more explicit that the crack caused by the sword is going to lead to the collapse of the pier. I’m hoping that means including some view to make it clearer where they’ve ended up – maybe a dramatic overhead shot looking down, showing the crack growing across the end of the pier, with airy space and thundering water on either side.
You know, kind of like those overhead views of Indiana Jones fighting on the rope bridge in the Temple of Doom, with the crocodiles waiting below…
Whoa, the pier kind of came out of nowhere for me too.. I mean, I knew the crack was supposed to be widening and slowly crumbling, but since when was it a shorter piece of land jutting out and floating up like that? Did I miss something? Hmm…
If you use your imagination a little bit, it can look like Alex pushed off Nic (in slow motion of course) and is now using that momentum in slo-mo reaching up onto the pier! XD lol
I recall Nastaja and Alex flying in the beginning. She finished off the lizard king, why not fly too? She is the One!
You know Alex is going to wake up…..You always wake up when your falling while dreaming.
wait.. is it alex or nastajia that is falling?
And the, suddenly Nick, wake up … I’ve seen so many movies, so I guess it’s the kind of “surprise” expected
BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNMMMMMMMMMM
No, a Disney Villain Death requires that neither of the Hero Couple is the one who kills the villain. and he seems pretty dead before he falls, too.
You guys are EPIC.
You might be waiting for a long time, then…
Actually, disregard that last comment. I posted it before looking at the next page.
/facepalm
Meanwhile in the real world…
Daniel: “Alex, wake up! A red dragon just appeared on campus, and he’s looking really mad!”
quick the dream is collapsing
*DUUUNNNNN!!!!* oh great…and a giant wheeled behemoth just appeared in the middle of the street
…
Panel 1 looks oddly familiar….oh snap!
“SEPHIROTH!!!”
You win this round, gravity…
Alex is goin after his carves.
Gotta loot the corpse before it drops into the sea.
