*speechless*
hu bu du wu?
Woah! awesome Scott!
Okay did Nas grab the sword or …
Weeeell, he got the sword back, didn’t he?
Arthur?
Well… That was the last thing I was expecting. *tries to see who stabbed Nic*
Well…the sword is KINDA close to the liver…close enough for jazz, I say.
** SNERK ** ….. Somehow, I don’t think that makes old Nic feel any better.
Anyone wondering why Alex didn’t just fly out of his predicament before Nic grabbed him, or even try to fly out after he had been grabbed?
Scott’s comment makes me think that all the fight is not out of Nic yet. Still alot to do in the next 4 pages. From this angle, looks like the blade did not pierce his heart if it is in the same place as a human’s. Also, it may just have missed his spine.
Don’t know if you can show blood in a movie without it getting a PG-13 rating. Bunches of times in kiddo films you don’t see any blood when by all rights there should be.
I’m in ur castle pwning ur dragons.
owch! the turkey gets carved…..
“You have no heart, villain!”
obvious ending: “So you shouldn’t be feeling this right now, let alone react to it!”
oh yeah, btw…. if she was aiming for his heart, she missed. I think.
Okay… that was unexpected.
Two possible persons there, Nas or the Dwarven king… although he might have used his mace instead…
Great stuff nonetheless Scott!! 😀
Sic semper tyrannis, Nic.
Nooo! I loved Nic as a villain and I hope he’s not down for the count. Especially as there’s still 10 chapters left in the series. With that wound I still hold out hope for zombie dragon Nic with perhaps a redemption in a later chapter.
I still love the direction you’ve taken with this battle Scott compared to the stereotypical let the bad guy escape to fight another day routine. Not sure whether you’ve hinted at a bigger baddie. Perhaps the nightmare realm king.
Please be Dan… Please be Dan… Please be Dan
(I know it isn’t likely, but perhaps Alex’s statement that he wanted Dan to be there showing that he wouldn’t try to take the throne was enough to affect the spell and allow Dan to enter.)
Awesome; I love this comment!
I think it’s the king of the dwarves. I forgot his name.
Anyways, lolwut?
IT’S PIKACHU!
Thus ends Nicodemus, the Dragon King.
Now rise, Nicodemus, the Dracolich…
It can’t be the dwarf. I can only see the elven queen doing something like that but even then.
Dwarven king had a 2 handed hammer so thats why i question.
“Well, not ANYMORE!”
sooo… Dan, Arthur, Nastajia… Felicity?
So I’m sure it’s Nastajia, but kinda hoping it’s Dan. For the plot twist.
…umm…wow….just..wow…
Now to play the guessing game! Who is behind the big ugly dragon! is it;
a: Nastajia
b: Dan
or
c: King Arthur himself???
We will find out in the next installment of ; The DreamLand Chronicles!
Disapproval with extreme prejudice 🙂
To bury the sword that deep into his back, I’d say it would have to go all the way in. Including the hilt, and thus the wielder’s hand(s). (Scott, can we se a “reverse angle” of the shot after tomorrow? 😉 )
Nobody could/would do that, thus my second guess is – Kiwi. Using magic. No hands, then it can go that deep easily.
“YOU BASTARD! YOU KILLED GRANDPA PISTACHIO!”
First guess was Nastajia – but that would be her 2nd breach of honor and protocol in short time.
Third guess is Dan – after tips from others.
Wait… He did….?!
…CARVE HIM LIKE A PUMPKIN!
Well. It would be awesome if it was Dan, but by the speech bubble coming from behind Big Nic, it wouldn’t be. I don’t believe he would declare him to be a ‘Villian’, maybe a modern term of which would go with what his brother Alex told him in the Real World, like maybe…
“What heart, Nic!?”
So sadly, there is a low chance of it being Dan. Perhaps King Arthur who came back from Limbo, into the world his ‘presence’ was in when he -was- killed. So there could be a possibility of him, too.
But, honestly, it’s most likely, near a 100% chance of it being Najastia, taking the sword and sticking up for her boy friend. Her tongue in the bubble would work for it, plus it would also be good timing.
So, sadly… It’s Najastia.
But I still cross my fingers for it being Dan!
*Crosses fingers and hops up and down.*
You and me both!
Possible page title “Straight through my heart”
I have the same reaction as some here: my first thoughts were: it would be SO awesome if it was Dan. But that would be impossible. From the speech I`d say it was Bognok. I think Nastajia would use another word than `villain` But it would be totally logical if it WAS her.
I can`t wait for the next page!! Maybe we might be in for a surprise…
DANG, SON! That is crazy! D:
Oh man, Nic! I mean, I just… WOAH!
How’s he gonna slink out of this one?
As outright amazing as this is, I hope it doesn’t mean the end of Nic entirely. He’s an awesome villain, and let’s face it, dragons are boss.
Ooh dear! That might sting a bit….
*scratches head* Hmm..Nasti could have picked-up the sword, she would be sufficiently angry, after all, Nic killed her parents (at least, I believe he did). It could also be the shaman. Nic wrecked their holy place. Stuff like that tends to make peoiple somewhat less agreeable.
Would be great though if somehow Arthur revived, or his spirit got into Nasti or even Felicity…
… could it be Dan?!?!?!?!?
LOL, you think?! X-D
(I’d like to quote Will Smith in the runaway near the end of ID4, when Jeff Goldblum comments on that those naughty, naughty aliens are – indeed! – firing at them. In fact, laser beams are just about EVERYWHERE… “Really? You THINK?!?!!”)
“Koffing!”
Once again the dangers of monologuing while villaining are graphically illustrated.
Guys, I’m betting it’s Orion. He would have noticed them sneaking round. (Nas and Bognok)
Really disappointed though that it wasn’t Alex. I know you have plans for the character but throughout the entire fight I feel that the writer(s) didn’t have as much faith in him as I did. 😐
After reading the comments, perhaps it’ll be King Arthur himself?!?!?!?
Anyway,we don’t want Alex to be a cold blooded killer now do we?
yeah, I’m with you on that one. Way to go Dan!
“You have no heart” – well, not anymore. I’m not an expert on the physiology of dragons, but if the sword is not in his heart at the moment then a sword that cuts through anything won’t have much of a problem slicing right over to, or just doing a Cuisinart move on everything in Nic’s chest cavity. If nothing else the sword seems to have cut through Nic’s spine, so Nic may get a death speech before he expires.
With regard to “who stabbed Nic? Let’s see:
If only the King of Dreamland can wield the sword, then our suspects are limited to real-world humans who can (or should be) the King/Queen, and who would say something like, “You have no heart, villain.”
I think that would most likely be Arthur, unless Dan is really into role playing; however, Arthur is long gone and the last I saw Dan he was holding hands with Nicole so I’m guessing Dan is waiting to see what happens to Alex; besides, it doesn’t seem like Dan to use that kind of language. It would be a wild-card (dramatically speaking) to see Dan suddenly in Dreamland without any more story build-up. It is possible, but I expect that if Dan comes along it will be after the spell keeping him in the real world abates and after suitable dramatic build-up in the story, vice a dea ex machina.
Since the eligible humans seem to be out of play, it seems most likely that it is someone from Dreamland. I can see Nastajia doing the deed and using that kind of language, if only to avenge her parents, so that makes her my number one suspect as I expect the giant Dwarf would have used his hammer instead.
One other thought – it could always be the centaur, since he’s probably tall enough to reach high enough on Nic to have a sword penetrate horizontally on a creature the size of Nic, but he seems more of a teacher of Kings than a wielder of swords.
The sword was sticking in rock the last time we saw it, therefore, I imagine that means only the true heir to the throne could pull it out (ie Dan, or Alex if he’s still the true heir). But my vote is that Dan has come to dreamland to claim his throne and it’s only fitting that he should be the one to slay the usurper.
that would be pimp
hey the sword is magic right may be it just got fed up with nick and stabed him
Just throwing this out there…but maybe Nicole???
(My money is on Arthur…)
Nick has no heart, hence the stabbing has no effects.
Possible answers to the question “Who backstabs Nic?” (note the backstabing using greatsword not knife…(a) how many hit points will drain? and (b) is it a critical hit?)
A. The dwarf king
B. Nastajia
C. King Arthur
Possible interesting but not really possible.
The speech bubble for the sword is different than that we see here.
Oh, the poetic justice! Stabbed in the back like he stabbed Auther! Who’s hand do we get to shake?
Poor Nick. He just needs a mother … and maybe a bandaid.
My money is on the dwarven king. It would be really cool if it was Dan or King Arthur but since i dont know how they would of pulled that off i really think it would be The Dwarven King. I dont see Felicity or Nastajia using the word Villian if they did it and it just seems like something the Dwarven King would say. But then Orion is a good suspect as well. I dontk now something about when i saw it i just could see the dwarven king behind Nic so who knows ^.^…
I LOOOOOOOOVE this page though Scott! though i will miss Nic if this is the end of him, though i really dont think it will be.
Well after re-reading the last few strips I find everyone using the purpleish speech bubbles so that’s no help I’m guessing Nastajia or Felicity.
I love you guys!
I think it’s felicity… she would be looking for revenge, right?
Felicity! Honestly, she actually loves Alex, too, though I’m not sure she’d admit it, and seeing him in the state Nic had him in, she would have reacted that way. Nastajia’s sense of honor would have kept her from getting involved, so my bet is on Felicity picking up the sword and, as a rogue would do it, neatly slip the blade betwixt the ribs and give Nic the backstabbing critical he so justly deserves! The bigger they are, the larger their blind-spot… mmmm… Pointy end goes in the other guy ^.~
I think it is Felicity. Back stabbing is a rogueish sort of thing and she perhaps has the most first hand experience of his heartlessness.
Ooh, I hope that’s Dan.. somehow.
Or perhaps it was caused (somehow) by “beating the snot” out of someone who had something to do with the curse.
I agree! That was… unexpected.
Although unless dragon physiology is different from human, that’s too low for the heart. The spine and major veins and arteries, though… If the Sword got any of those, Nic has only seconds to live.
And this is ANOTHER danger of monologuing. It not only gives your opponent a chance to recover, it also gives others the opportunity to get close enough to strike. Villains really shouldn’t do that…
Funny how a kid-friendly comic can show Nick being impaled on a sword yet I can’t share my exact words when I first saw this page. 😛 Seriously, Scott, you are awesome.
My money is on Nastajia, with Felicity as a close second, but I’d prefer Nastajia. When Alex was getting smashed into the ground and cut open like a soda can, she attacked to protect him. He’s still alive and I think the sword acknowledged that Nastajia was his girl back in Orion’s village and therefore can grab it and use it with the intention to kill, not steal the throne away from him. She’s going to let him fight and prove himself but if he’s in serious danger, she won’t back down.
I certainly hope you can do 5 pages a week, or at least tomorrow’s, and if not please tell us in advance because just a 24 hour wait is painful enough, please!
If Nick has the same approximate anatomy as Earth reptiles (and two dinosaurs with traces of soft-tissue fossilisation) then his heart is right up close to the top of his chest. If, however, dragons have hearts more like birds (which are large, placed low down the body and on the mid-line of the body) then that sword could well have caused cardiac trauma.
I think we’ve all made an assumption we are not entitled to…
Could it possibly be Nastajia’s father?
had not seen this one comming…
omg…
Huh… Alex… Just take it easy, pal. You’ll get your Superhero badge yet. Some other day. I’m sure you will. Until then, well, get used to being married. Happily ever after, OK? SMILE, you idiot, and THANK HER, *NOW*!
FTR: I’ve totally missed the whole seismic thing last pages, that’s right, but I’ve told all’y’all the sword looked promising, haven’t I?
BTW: Scott, there used to be a list of allowed HTML tags down here. Could we have it back, pretty please? In times like this, I really do miss my slanted bolds.
AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
D: …. NOOOO, Nicodemus ;___; !! Can’t wait for the other pages !
I believe it is more likely Arthur, although I am surprised no-one has thought of the possibility of it possibly being Merlin. Remember according to Arthurian legends, he also never publicly died, only was imprisoned.
Scott,
I’m wondering if the speech in Nic’s first bubble might not flow better if it said, “I would sooner cut out my own HEART than allow one more human to sit upon the throne of Astoria.” This would be the case especially if this is going to ever be heard, such as in a cartoon or a movie. 🙂
On a different note, I have to agree with several other people that Nic is a fantastic villain, and I am more than a little torn between having him survive or seeing him vanquished in this scene. I am actually thinking it may be Felicity, bouncing off of Paddington, that may have done this. She tends towards the dramatic, and the declaration that Nic has no heart, and then calling him a villain, would fit with her flair for the dramatic, and also her lack of foresight on what happens AFTER the adventurous act… 🙂
All-in-all, this is fantastic!!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Merlin was on Earth, not in Dreamland. I don’t think he can cross over, can he?
Hmm..After reading the comments ,and mulling about for a bit, I do find that suggestion worthy of pondering… buuuuut..I thought Nasti’s parents died.
The plot thickens
According to legend, he’s a magician and a very spiritual man. I wouldn’t throw-out the Merlin-suggestion yet..
O____O
Since I don’t see betting on her YET…
… I bet my badoodles that it’s Kiwi.
XD
… Kiwi single-handedly killing the baddie will be SO badass.
😯
Oh…oh my God…
….WHAT??? NIC IS DEAD??? Who?????
Exciting was an understatement…
I don’t think it counts as “cold-blooded” when it’s a literal kill-or-be-killed situation.
Unless you were making a lizard pun, in which case never mind. 😀
The close-up w/ Nicodemus’ eye is excellent!
… and the payoff in the last frame is pretty great too! Wow. Going to be an interesting week.
“… and he starts MONOLOGUING! He goes into this long prepared speech about how FEEEBLE I am compared to him, how INEEEEEVITABLE is my defeat, how the World Will Soon be HIS!”
That’s a jolt and a half.
I hope it’s NOT Nastajia or any of the other onlookers; they accepted that this was Alex’ fight.
I agree with some prior analyses; even if Dan HAD figured out how to get to Dreamland, he wouldn’t have used those words, and probably wouldn’t have even used a SWORD. Not his style.
I’m betting on King Arthur or Merlin, though I’d expect Merlin to use FIRE FROM HEAVEN or something else appropriate to the greatest wizard in the world.
If not those two, I have no immediate idea. Unless it’s Torg. 🙂
didnt know what to expect after fridays page…. i am just freekin speachless.. wow.. didnt see that coming
Oh, hey! There’s a Spy in the comic!
Not Nastajia, she wants to know where her parents are.
Oooh! Snap!
(or rather: “Stab!”)
Hubris.
You’d think Nic would be better read-up on Shakespearean (or Greek) tragedies since I think I remember he quoting Mr “Speare” back when, or something similarly classical, at the Centaur tablet tower.
Whoever did it had better run quick, or they’ll be smashed, clawed or toasty- assuming Nic isn’t reaaaly discombobulated.
My money’s on Staj – she may be aware that her parents are far more likely dead than imprisoned. Plus, she loves Alex more than anyone!
Epic!
You know I could totally see Torg just popping up out of nowhere, courtesy of Riff’s Dimensional Flux Agitator, and stabbing the big bad dragon with his magic sword. Of course we all know who the real hero here is: Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater.
WordPress didn’t seem to want to post my earlier comment which was, 😯
It’s a comic, just enjoy this story instead of checking ‘facts’ as far as it’s possible checking them. It’s fantasy remember. You ruin it for yourself that way 😉
That has not been established, I don’t think. They are missing; Nic had something to do with their disappearance; but I think that’s all we know for sure. And enraged elf-king would certainly fit the scenario. ‘Quit beating up my daughter’s boyfriend!’ XD
Good point….
While I love this page. It may mess with your G rating, man.
I don’t know, I’ve always felt that Nic had a legitimate reason for doing what he did. What is it they say? The path to hell is paved with good intentions? Yeah, something like that.
It could be telekinesis by Alex. Remember all the way back in the first chapter when the sword moved by itself(?), giving Nic his scar? Maybe Alex harnessed the sword and are working together. But the speech bubble is behind Nic… Ahhh!!! Just tell me please!
I’m with this one. I think it’s Bognok, with a secondary possibility of Arthur.
OH OH And the quarterback is toast!!
hehehe
Cheater.
It has to be either Staj or the dwarf king.
I also love this comment
Critical hit. Counting down to -10. That is going thru the diaphram, gonna make his habitual spechiness tough to do when he can’t breath. Least it looks like it thru, and without that, you don’t breath so good.
On page 1275 in the third panel we see Nastajia, Bognok Felicity, and Padington (I assume Kiwi too, but between the rain and the distance I can’t tell) all to the right of where Nic and Alex fell.
The first panel on 1276 you can still see them there, with Nastajia the closest and calling out to Alex. In the third panel we see the sword in the stone, on the same side. And if my judgement is right, it looks like Felicity is closest to where it would be *AND* looking towards with Padinton right behind her, it while Nastajia and Bognok are looking at Alex.
Assuming that anyone would be able to pull the sword out of that stone, I go with Felicity. If that is not the case than I would go with Nastajia or Dan.
Yeah! Excellent *point*. HA!!
Reminiscent of LOTR Sam. “Not if I gut you first.”
Right about now I think that Nic is finally getting the *point.*
“WHOM SHALL WE SLAY TODAY, MASTER?”
“A God-Damned Usurper Dragon.”
Magic Sword & Armor — 156,000 gold pieces
Hiring an army to storm a dragon’s stronghold — 435,912 gold pieces
Getting Lessons in how to throw your voice while boomeranging your sword for the ultimate backstab — Priceless 😛
Okay we know that didn’t happen, but still would be funny.
My money is on Nas, but will have to wait and see
Epic forshadowing in pannel one xD
I toiled with this one. That’s definitely sounding like a better option. Thanks.
how could you do that? you made us all think the same thing: who is behind nicodemos?
now, have to wait until wednesday
Who, who??!?! ZOMG… Oh Nic.. </3? <3?
Love-hate relationship…
Whoa….
That was completely unexpected!
T: “Was that supposed to happen?”
R: “Let me check my notes…..”
I love that dwarf! :3
Haha, yes!
Unfortunately, the perfect rebuttal from Nick would be “Yes I do. And you just missed it.”
I’m voting for Dan or one of the Dwarf guys. Dan gets the number one spot!
Wow…. best late birthday present ever! 😀
Hehe. I’m stunned by this turn of events. I look forward to more!
Is it at this point that Nick breaks the Fourth Wall and says “Hold it, I have to survive all the way to Chapter 24!” 🙂
Said with the voice of “It’s the old man from Scene 24!” 🙂
Psi…
well, dragons ARE pretty huge. maybe whoever stabbed Nic just couldn’t reach his heart…
20 bucks the sword picked it self up and stabbed nic.
that is cool but who did that because Alex is hanging of a cliff thing=0
Guys, it was totally Kiwi that stabbed him.
Wow, just like Nic, I didn’t see that coming!
Hey, any chance of getting that first panel somehow without the speech bubble? Awesome wallpaper shot!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! D: i was really hoping nick would not die.
i wonder who is holding the sword? probably nast.
Nah. I’ve seen G-Rated movies and comics with people dying. It’s become more and more frequently as a ‘real life’ senario, so I think he’ll be able to keep his G-Rating. Bit more graphical G-Rating, but sitll a G-Rating.
wonder who that could be probly the elf
Eeeeep. You know, it’s probably Nastajia that skewered the resident diabolical dragon overlord but on some level my brain keeps screaming, “Be Daniel! Be Daniel!” The suspense! The anticipation!…..Aaaarg can’t wait!
I bet it’s Dan! or Felicity, I feel like anyone else would have used their own weapon, and that’s Alex’s sword, right?
Ever seen a horse hoof? Orion has four of those. Or for a better illustration, Monty Python and The Holy Grail. They used coconuts but, pretty close sound when a horse goes over stone, at least in my experience. They are on stone. So Nic would notice the armored dwarf (given) and the lightly armored with clothe and leather primarily elven archer. Sense make none.
I am betting on some thing of a mix between the three possible points his heart could be. Which would put it some where along the left side of his upper verterbrae below his collar bone and make it rather large and efficient. If that makes sense to any one who is a vet or a doctor, please let me know, it barely makes sense to me why that seems logical to me.
for some of us, fact checking shows how absorbed we are with the story =3
I hope it’s Dan:) but i think it’s Nastajia but we hvae to wait and see:) When does the next page come?:)
How about…. Grandpa Pistachio? The Fairies certainly have reason, and the line is one I could certainly hear the guy saying. 😀
The Sword can move and act on its own, or, possibly, at the will of its owner. It wouldn’t be ENTIRELY impossible that Alex used the same move as Thor Versus Loki during the Simonson run.
With the sword COMPLETELY through him, I *REALLY* don’t think it matters whether it hit the HEART or not. As someone else pointed out, that kind of wound looks to have severed the SPINE. If not, it’s still cut up *SOME* internal organs, and even if Nicodemus can SURVIVE it… well, in the words of the interplanetary sports announcers, “Bob, I don’t care WHAT your anatomy is like, THAT’S gotta hurt.”
It’s obviously Wolverine.
“I’m not dead yet! I’m getting better…”
Speaking candidly: I personally see NO WAY that it could be ANY of our known-to-be-present characters, other than Alex if he pulled a Thor or something like it. The Sword was embedded in STONE, off to Alex’ left (Nic’s right) and not all that far from Alex. The others were WELL BEHIND Nicodemus.
There is SIMPLY NO WAY for either Nastajia or Bognok to have run over there, gone PAST Nicodemus, grabbed up the sword, and not been NOTICED. Nicodemus is neither blind nor stupid. It had to be someone, or someTHING, else that didn’t have to cover that much distance.
I *MIGHT* allow the possibility for Felicity — she’s an accomplished thief, grabbing stuff and running with it is her stock in trade. And she DOES have a reason to stab the old Dragon in the back — more than one, actually.
But that, to me, is grasping at straws. I think the crucial point here is that someone else was wielding THAT Sword. Maybe just anyone can pick it up and swing it, but my guess is that it’s not going to be very effective unless you have the RIGHT to wield that Sword.
In that case, I think the field narrows to four, and ONLY four, people:
1) Alex. It’s HIS sword right now. The Sword may be able to respond to his desperation. And while he USUALLY doesn’t speak that way, I could see him going for the melodramatic cheese when he used THAT kind of strike, maybe.
2) Dan. If he’s managed to break through his dream-block, Dan would certainly have the RIGHT to wield the sword, and would most certainly NOT hesitate to help his brother. The problem is, Dan’s not athletic, and he doesn’t speak like that; I just don’t see him stabbing the dragon in the back with that kind of melodrama..
3) King Arthur. With the Dragon’s plans collapsing about him, the Wraiths probably deciding it’s time to abandon the sinking ship, it’s possible that he’s managed to escape from his soul-prison. And in that case he’s just come upon his heir and presumably son about to be killed by his own betrayer — yeah, that’ll get you a sword in the back.
4) Merlin. In some ways this is the best possibility. No one killed MERLIN, we know that. Moreover, while the old mage wouldn’t grab up the sword HIMSELF, he most CERTAINLY could wave his hand and make the Sword FLY and stab Nicodemus from behind. He would undoubtedly speak just like that, and the advantage of Merlin as a choice is that he would not have to have physically run up next to the combatants to grab the sword, which all the others (except Alex, possibly) would have to have done.
And the next year’s comics will follow Dan and Nicole. Who Shot J.R., er, Stabbed Nicodemus, won’t be resolved until next season!
Oh, my goodness, I didn’t think he had it in him! You’re amazing, Alex!!!
We love you, Alex! We love you, Alex! We love you, Alex!
I am confused…the sword seems to be protruding thru from the dragon’s back, the point coming out thru his chest …yet Alexander is standing in front of him…it almost seems like there is a frame missing…Or I just missed something…confusing??
has any one entertained the idea that maybe its NOT alexis sword i don’t think it said nic could ONLY be killed by alex’s sword (i could be wrong though) so maybe SOMEONE hand a DIFFERENT SWORD and got all staby with it. i mean even if they DIDNT have a sword at the time they could have gotten it from one of the army guys and then killed nic i’m sure SOMEONE had a sword with them. in fact with that in mind now its opened to it being a character we don’t know YET.
I’m just spit ballin here of corse hell if its not alex’es sword it could be his little cousin that did it. corse i always think outside the box create for things (not saying you guys arnt so don’t be mad) hell for all i know it could be the sword i mean if scott wanted the guy behind it to be a secret he would not use the same speech bubble if it was the sword. with the mind of not being the same speech bubble it could be someone from the nightmare realm that wants to take over.
and next i think it could be dan i mean don’t ya think he’d want to be dramatic and say something like that he hasn’t ever been to dreamland so he’d want to be all dramatic and cool-ish and say something like “what heart villain” so yeah it could be ANY ONE some one who was there during the battle someone new or some one who hasn’t been to dreamland.
p.s. sorry for bad grammar and spelling and capitalization im really tiered atm haven’t got sleep for two days but i thought id make my contribution anyway.
It’s Arthur.
You have to make assumptions for any known possibility other than Dan, Arthur and Orion because we’ve never (IIRC) seen them touch the sword.
Of those 3, Orion and Arther are the only ones that might concievably talk like that.
Of those 2, Arthur is the one that would be the most awesome.
So it’s Arthur.
don’t you know that magic swords have that hidden ‘Presto! Extend-o!’ option?
You know what, my guess is that it was Felicity who stabbed Nic. She has more than enough reason to grab a sword and run it through him. I mean he did basically use her for most of her life and tried to use her against the very people who showed her nothing but kindness and caring as well as getting her back in touch with her childhood friend. Who might I say is also a human that Nic would want to keep out of dreamland.
Hmm…
It’s hard to say how much time elapsed from the last time we saw the characters, so I would think it possible that someone could have given Nic the “SHLNKK”.
Merlin seems like kind of an outside shot given that he lived in the human world a long time before Alex (probably over 1400 human years ago).
If the sword can self-animate, why didn’t it try to save Arthur?
Speaking of him, the sword said, “Arthur is gone” so unless Arthur pulled a fast one on the sword he’s no longer in play – if he is, then he’s king again, but it seems unlikely his body is still alive in Alex’s time (same issue as Arthur) so I don’t see a dream persona appearing.
I guess we’ll find out next comic! 🙂
What is missing is the picture of who pinned the sword through the dragon. The sword entered Nic from behind (the CSI blood spatter analysis will likely bear this out), but whose hand was it who impelled the steel?
That’s what all the discussion / speculation is about.
Okay, I revise my original thought. I went back a looked at the last few pages and I think that Nic and Alex actually fell on a different area than where the rest of the crew are, so that means that who ever did stab Nic couldn’t have been anyone we already saw up to this point.
That would be SO awesome if it was Dan. It’s probably not, but that’d be pretty cool. Of course, anything in this comic is cool, so….
I’m waiting for a mysterious stranger to show up on campus and start watching the boys any day now…
This is an excellent comment.
Felicity strikes me as more a hacker than a stabber. She’d have plenty of reason to want to do Nic, and she’s not exactly the most restrained character in taking action when her emotions are engaged. She’d also have the speed to get to the Sword, grab it, and hurl herself at Nic if she thought Alex was going to lose. But as I said, I think she’d swing at Nic, swiping at him cat-like, rather than try to run him through.
…
There’s one alternative I don’t think anyone has named yet, who is also light and fast on his feet, has the height to drive the Sword through Nic at about that level, and all the strength he’d need to be able to do it even with a weapon that COULDN’T cut through anything. And who might speak that formally. But Paddington, Paddington, I CAN’T believe it was Paddington…
you dont have to hit the heart to kill nic. a sever lung wound could cause him to suffocate on his own blood. gross yes but still he’s just as dead… also if you look at nics face as hes’ thu and thued.. it say and quote a char named bender.. “im boned”
it kinda a cross betwen ho S$%T and well i can forget about collecting on the royal retirement plan… also naz has refered to nic as villian more then once before.. so my cash is on her.
its natasha, she was the closest to the sword
But he got the point this time.
I considered Dan seriously for a while, but I don’t see it. Arthur is dead, or Alex would not be king. Merlin got freed with the amulet once Arthur died? That is pretty far fetched. I am thinking: 1)The sword reacting to Alex’s desires; 2) Nas or 3) Felicity. I am torn on the last two, and I guess Felicity now seems more likely, but I did not feel that way till I read all the comments.
Rereading it the speech is Nas to me, Felicity would have used different language. More of a take that you creep. This was Nas or Bagnok style of speaking.
My vote is either Dan or Arthur since this isn’t anyone else’s fight. Alex told his buds that.
Justifiably, Nas does have some right because of the parents-gone-missing-mumbo-jumbo. But at the same time, it’s an owner for kingship.
Nas seems to… convenient, anyways.
Very good point! Didn’t think of that.
Very Good, Scott!
“You have no heart, villain!”
“Urk…yes I do, you just put your sword through it.”
That wound won’t hurt Nic. He had that nerve cluster moved after being hit on his first tour.
