Page 1242…
Hey all!
Sorry for the delay today.
Sick kid.
I originally had 3 panels (the bottom 3) in this page.
But felt it needed the first panel when I got up this morning to put the page together.
I think it works better this way.
🙂
Hey all!

🙂
I think you made the right call there 🙂
Probably for the best to add it. Not sure if it’d be clear how they were suddenly in the throne room otherwise.
Yes, works well with the first panel included.
Aww dang. Well almost first. Ha! Now its time for a drang-dwraf face off. 😀
Whoops! Meant dragon not drang
Alex “What do you mean Astoria is ours? I’m the king here!”
Definitely the right choice, adding that first panel.
Ok, now what’s Nic gonna do? There’s no way he’s not going to fight them himself.
Yes, first panel def needed.
And LOL at the tongue hanging out in the first panel. HAHAHA 😛
Traitor? He just doesn’t get it does he?
I agree, adding the first panel was a good thing.
{Nic thinking – wow, that didn’t take long! What was it, the 3 minute war?}
I’m guessing we are about to see either the nightmare realm show itself, or Nic is going to take off to join them in order to get “his” kingdom back.
And not sure if it is just me, but the page is loading really slooooooooow. I’ve had a couple of time outs in trying to post this comment.
Those flying lizards made my DAY. 😀
Wise choice for putting that panel up.
(btw, how’s your little fella doing? is he ok now? 🙂 )
Me likey the dwarf leader even more each day. He’s got spunk!
but it’s too dangerous to fight them in the treasure room~~ what if he accidentally burns all his treasures to a crisp? what’s a dragon w/out his treasures? =3
Just a quick comment on your banner about clicking ads.
I love Dreamland. I’ve been reading it for a long time, and I’m happy to support it.
However, I’m not going to randomly click on ads that I’m not interested in. Actually, that seems kind of dishonest to me. It gives the false impression to advertisers that people are clicking on ads to look at their products, when, more likely, they’re just clicking on it then immediately closing the page, because you asked them to.
In the long run, I think that’s going to anger advertisers and drive them away rather than show them that we care.
Maybe instead you should make a concerted effort to get advertisers that have products your readers will be interested in so that they’ll want to click on the ads (somehow I doubt that free credit score really resonates with your primary audience). Then, you can say in your banner, “Please take a moment to support us by looking at the advertisements and clicking on ones that interest you.” That will drive real traffic to the advertisers–traffic actually interested in their product–rather than click-and-leave traffic. And that’s something I think your advertisers will appreciate, rather than resent.
Shadoom!
“Open Sesame, Gator-face!”
First panel really makes it- impending ass-kicking implied, too.
Love the tongue hanging out on the lizard- so totally knocked out, and all the spears flying all akimbo everywhere.
Bognok could use some lessons is leverage he really needs to choke down on that handle for maximum length and devastating impact. But he’s Bognok, already, and higher up means faster swings.
Hope your son is feeling better soon.
First panel definitely improves the page.
Hope your son has a speedy recovery.
Most importantly, I hope you son is feeling better.
The first panel is awesome.
And I knew Bognok was big for a dwarf, but he is freaking HUGE. You sure he isn’t part rock giant?
“Flying crocodiles”..always fun 😀 and, indeed, very good at conveying that someone quite unstoppable is entering.
Yes, the first panel definitely makes the page. LOL @ gator tongue.
To whichever son is sick… hope you are feeling better!! 🙂
And of course, “dwarf” and not “dwraf”? ;D
I have an uneasy feeling here. It can’t be all, “That’s it, now let’s turn out the lights and go home.”
I suspect Nico will fly away to fight again some other day.
I don’t buy or support most of the products show on the commercials during the shows I watch on TV yet I continue to watch the shows. So I have no qualms about clicking ads every time I come here and after the page loads, just closing it out because the product or service advertised is not for me.
Or it shows the advertisers and their investors that this is an active site to be advertising on and maybe a few folks will actually stop to look and possibly buy their products.
Ask any advertising agency that bought a $2.4 million spot during the Super Bowl. They just want foot traffic to show their investors. Same here.
Love the first panel BTW Scott. Hope the little one is feeling better. Maybe take him to a Predators game. Hockey is good for the soul….
I seriously want whatever elevator Bagnok and Nastajia used to get to the treasure room. That sucker is FAAAAAST! 🙂
Maybe Nic was just playing checkers with Alex waiting for their guests to arrive. 🙂
Nah. I think it’s just fine the way it is.
I wonder if there is the shortest giant of the workd around there somewhere…
Hope he’s feeling better soon.
And yes, that first panel really makes the page – 🙂
I don’t think Nick realizes the bad place he’s in right now – Bognak and Nastajia blocking one door, Alex and Felicity blocking the balcony. Of course, he likely has another exit, but one can hope for an epic butt-whooping!
Thanks Michelle…
That makes perfect sense.
We’re working on getting sponsors who have an interest in the comic and its fans.
But in the meanwhile…this is the best we can do.
I agree with you, Scott: the entrance of Nastajia and Bagnok is much more effective with the first panel in.
Well, Nick IS a Dragon ! After all, it just takes one of his fire breath to make his enemies on the run. It is always a tough call to play against a dragon 🙂
Do I smell a conclusion? I know that it would be just a little bit too soon, considering Alex just learned his full potential, but it could end right here and still leave everyone satisfied. (After watching Alex woop Nicodemus into the ground)
I can buy seeing raindrops through his transparent wings – but through his SHOULDER??? (Panel 3)
Or is there perhaps a leak in the roof? 😉
Anyway, it makes for a really weird effect, thought you’d might want to know.
😀
Otherwise, excellent work! Keep it up, grats to the kids, and “get well soon” to the ill one!
/Bez
I actually found a bunch of great comics on this site, like Wooden Rose
We still need 8 more chapters–and there’s plenty of Dreamland to free. Nicodemus has suffered a lost battle, not the whole war.
Also, I agree that the first panel adds enough to keep.
I love your avatar. I wish that I could steal it.
can someone remind me again why bognok is a giant? O_O
Flip-flop much? I laughed my head off with this.
But that was my first thought too. How in the world did they get up there sooo fast? And they’re not even out of breath.
Oh, but wait. It’s a dream. Alex is King, and he can probably make happen almost anything that he wants (now that he’s been schooled by Orion).
I rushed the page out.
Must have missed that.
Thanks Bez.
I’ll try to fix that ASAP!
I thought the dragon already knew the dwarf was a traitor.
That first panel has made my day! I’m so glad that you decided to add it!
Also, can I just say that everyone who comments here is so -nice-? A lot of comic forums have quite angry people saying quite angry things about one another. Reading the Dreamland Chronicles comments is a refreshing experience. Keep it up, everybody!
i didn’t realize how big the dwarf leader is until i see him walking next to nast. O.O i thought dwarfs were suppose to be little people.
Must be the weather, my son’s got a tooth coming in, he’s been in a foul temper all week…
great addition of panel 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
great addition of panel 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
great addition of panel 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Is that a Lost Years of Merlin reference I hear? If so, hurrah for someone else who’s read it ^_^()
I’m pretty sure a lot of that is perspective – that Nastajia is quite a bit further back.
Holy crap! Dwarves can run!
Astoria is ours!
Pizzas and Souvlaki for everyone!!
Genius-ly awesome.
Nah, Bognok is just so freakishly tall. But then again, he is the *King* of the Dwarves, after all. Take a look at this page on chapter 12 and it’s obvious: http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/page-687/
I’m wondering when Nick will realize he has fire still. Also, knowing that we’re only in chapter 16 has me worried… there’s still 8 more chapters to go… which means that even if they hang on to Astoria, Nick will still be around trying to thwart them. He’s held on the throne this long… he won’t be giving it up easily.
Epic confrontation scene.
Well, there’s still the nightmare realm to conquer, at least…
I realized, I didn’t offer any Princess Bride goodness… thus for your viewing pleasure:
http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv274/spamfooler/dreamland.jpg
The distance to the clouds and rain is also wrong. The sphere thing is shrinks when the “camera” “zooms” in from frame 3 to frame 4. That part looks correct. The rain and the clouds shrink the same amount. That could only happen if the rain and clouds were inside the window frame or a few feet back.
Rest assured, Scott, that when I make my first million, you’ll be near the top of my list (for large-scale sponsorship).
… but I wouldn’t hold your breath on that happening this year. Maybe next. 😉
(In the mean time, I’m saving up for the books; I’m determined to at least buy 2 copies of the first book by next Christmas for my nieces and nephews, and more if I can afford it.)
P.S. For Michelle’s benefit: didn’t you say on an earlier page that you get money from the advertisers (some of them, anyway) for everyone that sees their ads, regardless of whether the ad is clicked? If that is the case, Michelle can salve her conscience by just turning off any Ad Blocker she might be using, and only clicking on an ad if she’s interested in it.
Choking up on a mace like that makes it easier to carry, especially at speed (try running with a sledgehammer held in one hand).
Also, if you time it right, you can swing a mace or hammer like that by grabbing the end of the handle with the other hand, and letting the hand that was holding it slide down the handle to the end as you swing it. This technique, especially in a wide, overhead swing, generates a tremendous amount of force. (Trust someone who can consistently “ding the bell” at the fair … )
😉
nicely done =D
+1
I applaud your inspiration, and shall add this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/scootmaster_9/Dreamland4.jpg
LOL! You guys made my day!
Indeed, Scott has mentioned that many times before. Michelle, just to let you know, Scott has also mentioned that he’s trying to find a way to have ads that hopefully appeal to The Dreamland Chronicles audience (obviously) as well, so that it’s not a chore 🙂
Onto other news… the perspective in the second panel is so cute!! =D and.. CrAsH!
Heh..having to pound oodles of fence-posts for a sheep enclosure with a monstrous ACME hammer, will also teach one fairly quick how to get the most out of Your swing (weekend farmer parents tend to “outsource” the stupid chores to their kids..heheheheheh)
LOL!
I love you guys!
Jump out the window and fly away to the Nightmare realm…giving Alex and Company a reason to go there and fight the wraiths and perhaps the mysterious “leader” of said realm…maybe?
I actually agree with you Michelle, so to make myself feel better, I’ve just never turned on my ad-blocker (didn’t know I had that option until Scott said something to be honest). If I happen to see an ad that catches my eye, I’ll click it. I’ve found a couple of neat comics that way…and learned a little more about technology that interests me…and found a neat online auction site where you can potentially buy all sorts of goodies for pennies on the dollar. 🙂
It’s all about letting the ads be visible in the first place. Actually clicking them can be reserved for ads that are interesting. To that end, I just make it a point to scroll all the way down the page to see the bottom ad, and I read the others. 🙂
Plus Alex may have had oodles of training, but that does not a good king make. We’ll have to see what the people of Dreamland who weren’t in the battle say too…
Awesome! Now my day can officially start! 🙂
hey scott. I find your take on dwarfs being taller than elves very interesting. thanks for the new perspective. one of the characters i am writing about is a half gnome half troll.
As with everyone else, I agree, the first panel improves the story and the flow. Nicodemus would not have gone into a room with out guards at his side/back. And Nancy is convinced that it took just one swing of Bognok’s mace to do that to the guards.
Is Alex about to learn the difficulties of defending a static position? Nancy thinks Nic will just off the railing and fly off to the Wraiths and the nightmare realm where he belongs.
‘Well’ wishes to your sick child.
The first panel definitely sets the scene.
Taking Astoria is the easy part though – or has everyone forgotten the flying army of nasties Nicodemus called up when Alex and Nastajia were sailing the captured pirate ship off to the centaur realm, when they were forced down at the dwarves mountain?
It ain’t over till it’s over. At some point the wraiths have to get more directly involved.
Oop! Sorry, Scott and Tek.
I realized that later – and totally forgot about the ol’ 2-handed swing, seeing as how Bognok was so big and imposing. Thought he could swing it with one hand and beat-up with the other, real easy.
About the ad banners:
Recently saw one for “Front Sight Firearms Training” with a big Glock on it.
and then an IMVU avatar busting out of her dress.
Not exactly kid-friendly…
Targeted ads- kid-friendly webcomics similar to yours, would be better.
Or better yet, a rotation of ads for things you like – other webcomics, charities, etc.
I did find my way to two awesome webcomics through your ads, after you asked people to click-through, even though it sounded disengenious at the time. But one was kinda mature for kids with violence and some sexuality. Turbo Defiant Kimecan, it was.
Much goodness is contained therein 🙂
Bognok: After all this time, Astoria is ours!
Alex: NO! Mine.
🙂
Hurrah, indeed! T.A. Barron actually went to my high school (several years before I did, I won’t pretend I know him), so the librarians went really heavy on his books in my school district. You know, “here’s an author from here that succeeded–you can, too” sort of mentality. I’m ever so grateful, seeing as I love his books as much now as I did then. However, despite the amazingness of Shim, my first thought was Norton Juster’s *The Phantom Tollbooth*, in which the characters meet (in quick succession), the world’s skinniest fat man, the world’s fattest skinny man, the world’s tallest midget, and the world’s shortest giant. But, we may both be reading too much into it! 😉
I have been silent way to long… this is definitely a 5 Star page the first panel made the page. How long has 90% of the dreamlanders wanted to make those lizzards into lizzard skin boots and get dreamland back in their own hands instead of the nightmare realm???
Yes there are 8 more chapters in dreamland… and we all know Scott has more twists and turns in his mind that a 24 hour race at LeMans. Alex could be king… but who says it is a easy job???
Shazam’s was funny, but reading Scott M’s one immediately after nearly killed me! Great work people, great work. ^_^
And Scott, that first panel definitely definitely completes the page. 🙂
First panel was definitely a good idea!
Look out, folks! Cornered dragon here! Be alert for some desperate moves…
As the older brother, Dan is the true king. Somehow, I don’t feel that things will be set right fully until Daniel finds a way to enter dreamland and do that.
I believe Nicodemus knows this and will use it to his advantage.
By the way, I love the lighting on Nic and the background!!
Nic knows he can’t torch Alex, or Felicity since Alex will protect her.
I thought the talking that was going on, without weapons drawn, was much like two generals discussing the ongoing battle.
Now, however, Nic is moving towards Bognok and Staj. Since this is a comic, we can’t tell if he’s moving calmly or aggressively. Alex is still in a position where he can step in between Nic and his… prey. If he doesn’t… a quick shot of the roaster-toaster would turn both the Elven and the Dwarven kingdoms into Republics… 🙁
The loss of a leader could very well cause panic in the ranks, or at least enough confusion for a counter-attack to succeed.
Although I have a feeling that somewhere deep inside, Nic has some kind of honor or something like that. Otherwise he could have struck Alex dead long time ago. (He has in fact never tried that, A.I.R. – just tried toasting him.)
Ahahaahahahahaha. I’m sorry, but I just find it so hilarious that the dwarf is huge… He dwarfs everyone else! *cracks up*
I know it’s a bad joke, but right now I’m laughing so hard I don’t particularly care.
Ah yes, I always mess up on that one. 🙂
Funny you should mention that, about the ad at the bottom. I never noticed it was there, before, always stopping the scrolling once I had the posting section in sight… So upon reading your comment, I went all the way down to see the ad, and it happened to be one about wooden toys not made in China… that piqued my curiosity and I clicked on it. They had some nice stuff, so I bookmarked the site.
You So-and-So! How *DARE* you call us N… Oh, wait… that was a compliment, wasn’t it… 😉
Yeah, it is nice to see a place where one can type without having to wear flame-proof gloves… so much easier to use the keyboard efficiently, while lessening the chance for typos… 😛
I too, enjoy reading these comments, even if it does take longer to go from page to page as a result. I guess you could say that fellow Dreamers are a nice bunch.
You meanie! 😛
By providing a link to an a-propos image, you made me spend the next fifteen minutes or so reading on from there! I had to tear myself away, so as to not finish the archives when I have other stuff to do!
lol
Bah! I can’t hold a grudge against something like that… besides, I can think of much worse ways to “waste” time… 😛
Actually, it’s only Bognok, the King of the Dwarves, who is so tall. All the other dwarves are of “normal” dwarfish size. Go back to chapters 12 and 13, for confirmation.
My position is:
The ads are for adult readers (by which I simply mean people of an age to use a computer without supervision).
Kids young enough for it to be a worry should not be be using the internet unsupervised, though I doubt kids that young will be very interested in Glocks. Or cleavage, for that matter…
I also find myself consistently impressed by the level and quality of participation here. I’ve read comment sections on other webcomics (names withheld to protect the guilty) where just about everyone that posts a comment says the same darn thing, and it’s usually some variant of “I love your comic!”. It’s abundantly clear that none of these commenters have read any of the other comments, because on those rare occasions when some clever quip occurs, they all say it.
Sure, we occasionally get several posters here that say the same thing, and occasionally you can spot someone who clearly didn’t read the other comments before posting. (A few even admitted to doing this in their post, which was refreshing in and of itself.) But here, such things are the exception, rather than the rule.
I can’t help but conclude that we have a better class of readers – or at least commenters – here than most webcomics do. Heck, we even control our language and try to keep it kid-friendly; and most astonishing of all, commenters who have been called on minor language infractions have mostly taken the criticism with good grace and an apology. Go ahead; try to find THAT anywhere else on the Internet.
😉
😯
That went a lot longer than intended … sorry …
😳
😉
Nicodemus: “Traitor!”
Bognok: “Nay, you betrayed Dreamland when you ursurped the throne!”
Nicodemus: “No way, you’re totally more a traitor.”
Bognok: “You’re a traitor times ten!”
Nicodemus: “Nuh-uh!”
Bognok: “Uh-huh!”
Nicodemus: “Nuh-uh!”
Bognok: “Uh-huh!”
Nicodemus: “Nuh-uh!”
Bognok: “Uh-huh!”
Alex: “If you two don’t stop I’m turning this army right around.”
