Page 1218…
Hi all!
Sorry the page is a few hours late.
It looks like these war pages are going to be pretty time consuming.
On top of the hundreds of characters, changing environments, arrows and other weapons…I’m also dealing with rain and water drops and such.
I also had to model the carts and chains and such.
Please be patient with me. This may not be the last time a page is going to be late.
Also…here’s the letter for Dan.
Click the image and vote to see what Dan wrote to Orion in chapter 14.
Thanks again!
Hope you have a great day!
Scott
Wondering. Do I need sound effects for the arrows bouncing off of the rock giants?
Maybe… it looks like the arrows have pierced the giants although with no effect.
I was wondering “Where are the catapults?” but then I remembered, who needs catapults when you have huge rock giants to throw the rocks :).
IMHO, it needs a little something…
Sound effects were the first thing that popped into my mind, it would bring out the idea that battle has truly begun. The calm before the storm has ended, the storm is here.
It’ll be like when Paddington threw Felicity and Alex, only it’ll be rocks this time, and straight at the wall instead of the treasury.
Number 9 in topwebcomics.com!!!! Awesome!!!! Keep up the even greater than before work!!!!!!!!!!!!
I totally missed the arrows when I read this page. If you add sound effects I probably would have noticed them.
Tweaked it a bit.
Better?
when I read the page the first time the thing i noticed about that panel was the eyes on the green giant, then I looked at the eyes on the blue giant. Completely glossed over the arrows lol.
If you are going to add sounds for the arrows, an occasional storm sound (Crack-a-boom?) would not be out of place either…
But then you’d need rock sound effects and such…
Where does it all end????
Arrows bouncing off the Giants more evidently would IMHO do the job better. And a bit of motion blur on those still in flight. It’d take one monster of a camera to catch them so clearly given the dim light. I have to second Random: the way it is it looks like at least the arrowheads managed to punch through the Giants’ skins.
And how about some sparks? After all, it’s steel hitting stone, and hitting hard.
Every page will be well worth delays. The war has barely started yet it already feels epic like LOTR.
whatever sound effects you do, please don’t overdo it.
I “Like” this comment.
Arrow sound effects would be helpful, but I think the rain is enough to establish the fury of the storm.
I agree about the sound effects; I wasn’t quite sure what was going on otherwise. A couple of “swish swish swish PATING!” or something. 🙂
yeah, i think you should, the arrows either look they are sailing pass the giants or piercing them with no effect, but don’t go overboard with it.
This is totally reminiscent of “The Two Towers” when the rain starts falling just before the battle at Helms Deep.
Maxwell64: Motion seconded.
Quick Paddington! Blink! There’s an arrow headed straight for your eye! D=
Now with sound effects and more broken arrows.
Oh…and “whizzing streaks”
just keep in mind that arrows don’t part the air like bullets do.
Wonder what Alex & Felicity’s plans are, and what will happen to them since the wraiths presumably found out Dan’s plans.
I like it! Doesn’t go overboard but gets the “point” across… 🙂
I LOVE this page, rock giants ftw…and take your time in delivering us the pages Scott, agreeing with the war having LOTR epic-ness feel =D
Ah, Siege Giants … called it!
😉
…and Scott gets First! *grins*
Love it!
The way an arrow or a bullet parts air is heavily dependent on the velocity. Also the dreamland atmosphere.
In a few cases the tracer following an arrow is not straight behind the arrow. It looks as if the arrow tip is not pointing in the direction that it is flying.
One of the arrows looks like it missed the giants head but does not have a “whizzing streak”. Most of the “whizzing streaks” appear to start at the fin except one.
The non-giants are spread out in the second frame. The third frame looks like a tighter crowd or a military formation.
Nothing needs to change. It looks good and is supposed to look dreamy.
I would have used swan-tail feathers instead of the plastic dart style fins. That might make them look less normal to most readers.
Armored artillery! Very cool! Keep up the good work, Scott. Take all the time you need.
I tend to agree that there should probably be a FWOOSH or two (or something like that) to indicate arrows being fired. Otherwise the page feels a bit dull…even with the two little effects you added on the last panel.
Not gonna lie…I’d be hiding behind a giant’s leg to keep from getting shot. 😛 This is one of many reasons why I’m not in the military.
You added them and they look great! The sound effects, I mean!
I LOVE the stern looks on the rock giants’ faces!
Number 8!!!!!!
Today’s page is currently rendering.
Should be done shortly (next few hours).
Thanks for your patience.
Yeah, the sound effects are helping a lot!
Great page, Scott! Really starts the siege well. Fascinating switch on the sieges of the Tolkien trilogy.
Soooo, I just found this site yesterday and I’m now caught up….all I can say is WOW, best story I’ve read in a long time. Amazing work Scott!
Good old Nicodemus needs to get some new generals. Get the guards off the walls, let the attackers breach it, then bottleneck them and take it to street by street, house by house. If they have the courage for that. Then bring in the mobile flamer, aka Nicodemus. By then they’d be broken and run for their lives. Those that still can. Anything goes if you want to win.
Still, I have this feeling that Nicodemus is not what he seems to be. There were these “guardians”, right? I can’t help but think that Nicodemus might be one of them, or somewhat connected to them. Cause, think of it, what he’s doing is not really bad. He’s protecting the Dreamworld from the most destructive force Dreamworld has ever experienced: humans. Oh, they’re cute and fluffy as children, but once they’re grown up they’re monsters.
Read through this thing from 1st page to now in like 3 days.
Awesome story, I love it and it has had me hooked since the beginning.
Keep up the good work ^^
You’re probably right–and they do help–but I could imagine how there still might be a point when the storm effects should be brought out.
Way, way better. Wouldn’t probably look quite natural for those few who’ve seen stray arrows bounce off rocks, but hey, who’s seen them bounce off Rock Giants? Like, ever? 🙂
Thank you, Sean.
And welcome!
Hope you continue to enjoy the story.
Great to meet you Thunderscape-7!
Thanks for the kind words.
And welcome to Dreamland.
🙂

Hi Candace!
Thank you!
So glad you found us and hope you continue to enjoy the story.
I should have the next page up tonight.
This story is amazing ^^ I found this comic from a wonderproject ad at Misfile. Had me hooked when I saw the pic of the frowning Nastajia. A very beautiful character. I enjoyed the dialog and am glad you made the teeth not so spaced out like another cg comic I’ve seen. I was surprised to reach an end with out hitting the actual ending?? Theres already the whole set in book form at your store right? Or is it still ongoing?
What happens if arrows hit their eyes?
well I think they would “see” it coming and blink or maybe duck alittle?
6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got yer wallpaper, very sexy!
testing this gravatar thing
Yay it worked. Thanx for the cool site Scott. Great story by the way I really can’t wait for the ending and at the same time I don’t want it to end. *sigh*
Welcome Viper-7!
THe story will have 24 chapters.
This is chapter 16…so there’s still a bit more to go (we haven’t found out what happened to Nastajia’s parents…nor even seen the Nightmare Realm, yet).
THere’s 4 books in the store. Each is 300 pages. ANd full color.
I also do sketches in each book for you.
I also highly recommend the Paddington Plush too.
🙂
Thank you for the kind words. And hope you continue to enjoy the story with us.
Thank you, SakuraE7!
🙂
Thanks
Actually in nature driving rain such as we are seeing here tends to drastically reduce thunder and lightning. I can see Scott bringing it out for a suitably dramatic moment however.
Yes better. I agree that the occasional spark seems fitting, but at this point there isn’t much need to keep adding more.
Good tactics but um…. whose side are you on? 😛
Yeah, they’re helping a lot!
Thank you for all your hard work Scott — and remember to take breaks between chunks of work periods!! 🙂
Everybody must get stones…
You missed 7.
Yay, violence!
Not trying to be mean or anything, but just so you know typing in all caps is equivalent to shouting.
No…. but you do need Progenies of the Great Apocalypse (by Dimmu Borgir) playing as the background music. It is THE definitive Epic Battle music.
