Page 1181…
And this ends Chapter 15!
Wow. 160 pages.
My apologies that for the first time in the almost 5 years of putting Dreamland online…this chapter saw me missing updates.
Thank you all for your patience during this time.
I’m currently finalizing the script for Chapter 16…and have to work on some technical issues before I can start the next chapter.
I will keep you all updated on the comings and goings of my progress. Hopefully it won’t become a huge delay before we start the next chapter.
We really need you ALL to chip in and pre-order your copy of Book Four ASAP!
The sooner we have it funded…the sooner I can place the order.
CHapter 16 will conclude Book Five. So we need to get Book FOUR out before I finish the next book.
YOu know?
Huh?
π
Thanks all! Click the link below and place your order.
Kickstarter runs through Amazon. So your orders are safe. And you won’t be billed until it’s fully funded.
Have a great weekend!
Scott
And donβt forget to vote for usβ¦
O SNAP
I knew there’d be a wraith somewhere.
Too bad we have to wait for the next chapter, but I just know it’s gonna be worth it!
I hate to keep saying the same thing, but there’s just no way I can afford the books right now. (“Not poor, just broke … “) So I will continue to support you in the ways I can, by being a loyal (and patient, when need be) reader, and voting on TWC every day.
There is a dim light at the end of my financial tunnel. I have not yet determined whether it is hope, or an oncoming train, but if it turns out to be the former, I will then order the books (ideally 3 copies – one for each of my sisters’ families, and one for me) when I can.
As to this page, the fact that most of us saw this coming does nothing to detract from its brilliance!
I never thought I would use these exact words, but I’m definitely looking forward to the war …
Oh, the wraiths are back! O_o Not a good sign, Alex & the Dreamland armies are in for a rude surprise.
No worries, Scott, we understand about Life getting in the way. I definitely want to put my “two cents” towards the book, but I need to check w/ my Scott first. Mwahaha! ;P
I hope it’s not an oncoming train!! O_o Best of luck!!
Damn! Forgot about those guys!
Thanks!
I wish you the best of luck as well. And thanks for the support as always!
How did you see this coming?!
Come on everyone – order book four. I don’t want to wait too long for this all to get going again!
Yep, great job in closing the chapter!!! Can’t wait for the next one!
Huh…I didn’t notice any real change in lighting–the scene has always looked dark to me.
Anyhoo…DANG! Someone needs to invent wraithdar fast. Those guys seem to be able to come and go at will! *shakes fist at wraith*
I don’t understand the lighting of this scene. First, it was bright. Then, after they kissed, it got very dark. Now, it seems a little lighter again. Is this related to the Wraith?
We can hope that Dan remembered what the sword said about the wraith traveling to Camelot, and planned a distraction for them to discover. Well, we can hope.
It keeps saying this is a duplicate post, but it doesn’t show. So maybe this will need to be deleted…. sorry if I end up duplicating.
Artistic license.
π
Ok, those floating eyes are seriously creepy. +100 for creepy factor. π
Maybe he knew the Wraiths would be nosing around. He made it all up to misdirect them…now that would be a twist!
Heh, that’s the first thing I thought of too.
… Well, the first thing was:
“But the sword told them the wraiths could enter the ‘real’ world!
Why didn’t Dan remember that?”
Dan’s just too confident about his tactics for it not to be an act.
Alex is the overconfident one (most of the time).
This should make for a VERY interesting twist in the next chapter. Sad to say, but I assume the wraith wasn’t around when Alex and Dan sat down to make these plans and only knows of them now because of Dan telling Nicole all about it.
CALLED IT
Heheheh, you should have put the floating eyes right over the face on the Indiana Jones poster. That would have been uber creepy. Of course, then you’d get those people who’d say you got the idea from “Monsters, Inc.”…
Anyway, he’s disclosing himself as a military advisor behind Alex. Not quite wise unless he’s invented a way to take out both Nic and the Nightmare Realms’ boss in one sweep, which I doubt.
Wraiths can’t really hurt in the wake-up world, all right. What about some heavy transdimentional artillery waiting for their reports? (Just because it wasn’t used against Arthur doesn’t mean there’s none. They didn’t even really have to kill the Centaur back then, distracting Merlin alone would do the job just as well.)
It seems to me that there is a likely conflict in the future between Dan and Nicole when things go badly in battle due to “spillage of the beans – in spite of the fact that the wraith is there and y’all can relax your suspicions of Nicole.
After all, *we* know that the information will be coming from a wraith. *Dan* doesn’t know that, and “the only way Nicodemus could have known this stuff is if you told somebody!!!”
That’s my thought, anyway… ;o)
in a word… uhoh!!
Wraith appearing in Nicole’s shadow = ominous portent?
If Dan thought about the wraiths then he gets the honorific title of Batman.
anyway, it was SO obvious that the wraiths were gonna come.
Finally, Nicole isn’t a true believer. Dan would sense something in his shadow methinks.
Oooh!
Was wondering when the other shoe would drop. If Alex told Dan the wraiths helped take down Arthur in this world, then I’m hoping they’re both smart enough to allow for it happening again. So, are they spilling secrets – or setting up the wraiths with red herrings?
And what about the wraith’s ability to physically strike in this world? Does the sword know any way to block them from coming across? Can it protect him in this world while he sleeps? More things to speculate about.
p.s. Went by your house the other day Scott (if you can call flying along I-40 ‘by’) on the way back from Little Rock, AR to visit family at Tellico Lake before heading home. Tennessee should be looking really pretty soon – looks like the trees are just starting to turn.

The plot thickens….
(Wonder if Dan guessed this would happen, and prepared for it?)
That is an amazing turn of event! Great way to end the chapter! Love it!! π
i knew it! i knew a wrath was gonna show up eventually. those guys are troublesome. i wonder how they transport between worlds?
You’d think that at some point they’d figure out the whole “plan in a shadowless room” part of the equation.
I kept looking in the shadows of every comic, just waiting to see one XD
Will be interesting to see if this is a setup. Problem is, he didn’t know she was coming in there to apologize and the like. So… I’m worried that they didn’t think that the wraiths knew where to find them?
Thank you all.
One thing I’m noticing…
The webcomic is a lot BRIGHTER than the printed comic.
So I promise…in print…this will look much more “ominous”.
π
Hey I was in that very same tunnel just recently, if you see a set of foot prints they’ll be mine. Follow them and it leads to hope. If you come across a set of bloody and destroyed Doc Martins, they belonged to a friend of mine. don’t go down that tunnel. The light at the end of that tunnel goes toot toot
i was going to say that
the lighting is still creepy with the wrath there. espically as he manifests from his eyes. I didn’t notice them at first then when i saw the final panel i went back to see the eyes
WHATTTTTTT!
Can’t wait for the next chapter!
HAHA, you beat me to it! π
Ditto Rhynn — O SNAP!!!
Nice eyes effect though π
All I can think of is the music from the “dramatic chipmunk” youtube video.
Heh..several readers already predicted this. Makes the actual “plan” of Dan more obscure, and probably VERY different.. He MUST have known wraiths could observe his every move…After all, he had some deep correspondence with the sjaman.
As Hellboy would say: “Oooooooh Crap.”
Y’know, this is the time you need a little yappy dog. Somehow I don’t think Dan’s the sort to ignore the alarm, so to speak.
I suppose it’s possible that, given the story they heard, Dan is PLANNING on being overheard, but that’s a VERY deep game to play.
The real question is whether he’s also made the deduction that Nicodemus himself has been played. Does Dan read TVTropes? Nic is The Dragon in both senses of the word, I think, which means the REAL Big Bad hasn’t even taken a quick bow yet.
Ok, well.. I was going to guess that Nicole was withholding info and really after Felicity was thrown in jail, Nic became Nicole’s guardian.. dreamland.. person.
This works out nicer though. π
I knew those pesky wraiths would show up sooner or later. In a way it relieves the tension of expecting that other shoe to drop, but it’s so creepy the way their glowing eyes show up first. (shivers) I agree with Sea Wasp, and I do hope Dan is indeed playing a deep game as he called it. Won’t keep him safe from the wraiths though, so be careful Dan.
Augh! Wraith! I knew it was coming, but still!
Good stuff! Enjoying every minute of it, even the ones that make me go ‘augh!’ lol.
EEEEEK .. they can be in real world too? Oh crap …
//HSishi
This is what I said in my head!
“OKAY WHAT?! What is that little creeper doing there? Eeeeevil lizard…”
Good page!
I FINALLY CAUGHT UP! YAY!
BTW, does anyone else see the similarities between the wraiths and the Skeksis from The Dark Crystal?! Totally cool!
Oop! Just kidding! Actually, he will! π
Once, JUST FOR ONE STINKING MOMENT, can’t everything work just as planned for the good guys!!! Dauuggghh!!! I hope SeaWasp is right, and Dan is playing a very complicated game.
Oh snap indeed!
How the heck do the wraiths manage to come to this world??? This implies Nic can come here as well – thus our legends of dragons?
Brrrrrrrrr….
try dramatic cat
and Darthmatic Chipmunk
=)
I’d say it’s rather the art of Shaman Travel (with apologies for the term to those who may find it offending), so much neglected for the last few centuries. Maybe the Nightmare Realm is so very concerned with grown-ups using their dreams to travel between worlds exactly because such travels used to bug them big time back then. After all, how many dragons are left in Dreamland itself? Sure, they could originate from the Nightmare Realms or even farther away, but still the dragon lore is full of slaying.
D8
OH snap.
You know what i just realized. You could almost compare this to Arthur’s story. almost. Alex is like Arthur in a sense and Dan? Merlin. except with the whole magic thing.
Oh noes! They entered the real world!
Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Two comments:
1) Yeah, I kinda saw this coming too… But I still like the way it was done. π
2) “I love war!” *smack* “Ow! Never mind, never mind! War is bad! War is bad!” XD
Maybe the wraiths can travel back and forth because they found away to get both halves of the amulet Arthur was holding. That was its purpose and the body of Arthur is now missing.
Super great chapter, Scott!
I’m not all that concerned about the wraiths finding the plans. If it all went too well, the story would be a few chapters shorter! I’ll be bummed that they lose a battle, but happy that it stretches it out longer! π
Just remembered — those creepy little reptilian boogers attacked Merlin in our world in Camelot at the same time they attacked the shaman in Dreamland. They can travel between worlds somehow without Arthur’s amulet.
Still – they seemed strangely unconcerned that Arthur’s body and the amulet pieces were missing.
And Dan better learn not to talk about anything concerning dreamland after dark!
What if he knew about the Wraiths? The sword did record it spying on Arthur after all. Giving false intelligence can give a very good diversion.
Token forces at the areas mentioned to draw away enemy troops. Main force hits them somewhere they don’t expect.
Aww crud, maybe he will know what hit him
Wait, hold up, whoa whoa whoa – “ENDS”??!!??
This can’t be right!
ALL chapters MUST end – and begin! – with a FULL PAGE PANEL!!! π
Scott, you must have lost your mind – get back to the school book! π Probably that car accident. π
Please remake panel three as a full-screener, and change # 1181 into a dual-panel page instead.
And since I associate that little thing with “Sluggy Freelance” I’m wondering how Dreamland would fare with Torg and Bun-Bun in it.
No, they were travelling back and forth BEFORE the Amulet could have been in their hands. Remember they tried to backstab Merlin. FILLED WITH FAIL, of course because they were dealing with M-Fing MERLIN, after all, but still, they were there.
It occurs to me Alex and the Dreamland army are not as screwed as we all think. Dan mentioned no specifics of their plan whatsoever; so, unless that wraith could see the small papers across the room while looking directly through Dan and Nicole. He would also have to be able to read Dan’s small handwriting and piece together the diagrams into an order that makes sense. So, unless that wraith has powers we are unaware of, or Scott (and I hope this will not be the case) will ignore these problems completely and allow the wraith to know the full plan from, and I quote, these vague comments of “We’ll attack him from here and here,” “…and then Alex will come in here,” “I’m telling you Nicole…,” “…Nicodemus will never know what hit him.” Nic can prepare for war, but without the battle plan, or a specific date when the attack will commence, he’s still pretty badly off. Of course, Dan should keep those plans under lock and key, preferably inside an iron strongbox (magical thingies hate iron. IT BURNS US PRECIOUSSSS!). Also, it could simply be to mislead the wraiths and Nic. As always, way to keep things open-ended Sott.
You think far too much about these things, don’t you?
I agree, however.
Of course, it also depends on how long the wraith has been listening there. And how critical surprise is to the plan. Look at the Japanese at Midway–since the Americans knew where their major attack was coming, they could position their forces to take advantage of how the Japanese should come, and ignore other screening attacks, such as in the Aleutians.
My initial reaction:
“You got to be [effing] kidding me.”
What a tease! Can’t wait to see what’s next π
Mat
Excellent series, subbing because I want to see so much more in the future! Took me a few days to read up to date, but I’m avidly looking forward to the next pages.
sneaky
After The Sword told the sad story of how the Wraiths spied on Arthur, attacked Merlin and disrupted the ceremony, you’d think they would take that into account with whatever plan they might consider. Especially Dan, who is a smart enough strategist to realize the danger.
However, I think it would be cool if Dan had planned on this possibility and was only discussing a FAKE plan with her. Another words, intentionally leaking them false info. But I suppose that’s too much to hope for.
I’d really like to see some way for the Wraiths to get their just desserts.
Dan: “It’s an almost perfect strategy. The only way it could be defeated is if a lizard-like being from Dreamland manifested in this room and heard me talking about it, then divulged the information to Nicodemus. But what are the odds of that?”
The wraith’s face looks freakish and im only a kid so i cant pay for a book or anything:(
Welcome, fellow Dreamer!
Welcome back, Silverwolf! I’ve missed your odd commentary; it was good to see you catching back up with us …
π
Well…that’s an unlucky event.
uff.
yes! he is
Hmmm lizard like spys that like to wear spiders around their necks. I am guessing he isn’t one of the good guys. lol
Don’t worry. The invasion isn’t a total loss. After all, Dan used NO proper nouns whatsoever in his detailed explanation.
Ack! That was a creepy appearance.
Lord Abaddon of the Nightmare Realm.
Another solid chapter complete. Well done, Scott.
NOO!!!!!!
STOP TALKING!
TURN AROUND!
GAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
re: 2) – “What is it good for?”
As I am reading these comments, my desktop background rotated to a motivational poster style image of the library scene from “Ghostbusters”. The title is ‘Planning’ and the caption says: “You …. have a plan, right?” Hopefully Dan’s plan (whatever it is) at least mostly works.
Or alternatively, plan in a pitch black room…
… OR plan with written notes only.
