Page 1164…
Hi all!
So I’m looking at getting Book Four to the printer and it’s about $13k to do it.
Since I’m not set up to start taking pre-orders…I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts to me setting it up on Kickstarter?
Through Kickstarter…I can set up multiple “tiers” where you can pre-order just Book Four, or you could pay more and get other goodies like other books and such.
No one gets charged until we get the full funding. That way I wouldn’t have to deal with getting “almost” enough money.
What are your thoughts?
First coment!!!
hell yeah!!!
they are arguing… how sweeeeet!!!
great page and…
first comment!!!!
Fridays post has become a copy of today’s.
And when is Alex going to figure out that he can learn about all the past rulers of Dreamland?
Kickstarter.com seems like a really good venue to insure funding for the project is available, Scott. I’d say that a real possibility to explore. As for the comic, it rocks as always. I’m really enjoying watching Alex cope with responsibilities he NEVER foresaw while growing up. Still and all, I believe we are never given more than we can handle, and I see a whole lotta hero in an uncertain young man π Keep up the stellar work!
I dunno about other people, but I think Kickstarter is a terrific idea. I’ve had a couple projects I’ve supported that have used them to great effect. Sucks that it takes so much to get the project going, but if you’re going to, yeah KS would be a good idea.
Good luck!
That reminds me of the saying:
Those who forget history are bound to repeat it.
okay the line “But that is my Purpose” cracked me up cause i all i heard was this monotoned voice saying it in a confused like manner. :3 keep up the great work Scott!
Happy to help fund by pledging cost of next book but as a non-US fan I would be concerned about how postage etc. might work. Bought Dreamland books 1, 2, 3 off Amazon UK but bought the first book of Legend of Bill direct from US publishers and after waiting many months was then told that their software had the postage wrong so had to cough up more money π
Sword: “But that is my purpose”
Alex:”I noticed you don’t have little wings or legs, so zip it or I’ll leave you here!”
Sword: “I can close my eye, but not my mouth.”
Note: for me I am no longer seeing any page 1163. It has been replaced with 1164. It is now reading … 1162, 1164, 1164 for me. Thanks.
Kickstarter is a great idea. Put me down for all four.
or
I would like to have a chance to bid on the complete set like the “Raising funds for Nashville Flood Victims⦔ fund raiser. Every time I see that blog entry I grit my teeth and wonder why it finished so quickly!
The numbers are rolling forward correctly for me, but there is doubles of todays page, and yesterdays page is MIA..
I actually thought Alex was a little out of character here. Just a little too rude. Normally he can be, but not quite so cutting. I don’t know. :-/
The sword is definitely “double-edged” in that while it holds all the wisdom of the past Kings of Dreamland, it also will record all of poor Alex’s fumbles & mistakes as he grows to become ruler.
Kickstart sounds like a cool idea. I would donate. π
if the tiers included deals like the one you offered before you took the books/toys off your online shop, that would be enough incentive. and yeah, kickstarter is a good idea for the next issue!
I think Alex is just the right shade of emo, especially since he’s kind of ‘kicking stone, shuffling feet,’ about being the King. Man up!!! The sword was polite though.
RE: Kickstarter is pretty good for readers especially if they already have an amazon account. Plus, the tiering is always exciting and really win-win because there’s something usually special for both you and them. It’s good that no one gets charged unless the goal is reached. For you, I think they take 5% or something like that, and if you roll that in to the goal, you’re pretty much covered. The question to ask then is what do you when you reach and exceed goal? (because some readers might want to know) Do you end the drive or do you keep collecting funds/selling tiers for other projects like plushies and toys? (I’d go with the latter myself) π
Is IDW not publishing the trades?
Scott,
it looks like todays page over wrote yesterday’s as well.
I don’t know… I can see him being very annoyed that someone (something) is recording all the stupid stuff he does. I mean i would hold some resentment if I was in his shoes.
… in summer school.
π
Does the sword have a name
haha, I love this!
By the way, one of the ads on the sidebar, for “wayward sons” strikes me as a little inappropriate for a comic kids read. I thought you should know.
Cool Foliage! TDC just keeps looking better and better.
Kickstarter sounds like a good way to go. Zero risk involved.
It is a bit sharp for him. I think that’s more of his immaturity than anything else.
Not “respecting” the sword.
My thoughts are anything over my goal goes towards Book Five.
Since I’m halfway through it already.
π
Thank you all on the Kickstarter thoughts.
I’m so glad to hear such good things about it.
Theyv’e already given me the approval to put Book Four up.
But they suggest I put up a video.
Do you all feel that’s necessary?
I don’t think you need to convert any of us (readers) but if you want to get people that aren’t regular readers, I’ve seen video make the difference.
Sounds good π
hehe love the swords reply
>..>; Ooops had to fix the gravatar… and wow my last one screams I can seeee you XD
dang it ha! now it’s fixed….>..>; i’m having issues today…
nvm… I give up -_-;
Win.
Kickstarter is a great idea. I’ve gotten a few comics from it in the past that worked out well for me, and I think for the creators.
I’ve seen some in the past that request an additional pledge for international shipping to make sure that it gets covered. Or you could make two tiers one for domestic and one for international.
Big bundle tiers should be possible too for anyone that wants all 4 books, like me, or toys, prints, or other things in a single purchase. Just if you include this make sure you are setting the goal high enough to get the new printing and cover whatever other things you might be selling.
Once the goal is exceeded the drive continues until the end date that Scott picks. Once the end date is reached no one can fund it anymore. However, he would be able to start another fund drive for book 5 or any new items he wishes to produce.
I think that a slideshow with some music would probably be good enough. Or some of the other comics on their just have a single image. You have enough of an established site to link them too that a video shouldn’t be needed unless you want to make one.
Kickstart sounds like a GREAT idea !!!!
That was Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer’s problem–he kept going down in history. So, when he failed…
Wayward Sons has been mentioned before because of slightly risque ads here. At the time, Scott said that the author of Wayward Sons had checked it with him first, and he thought it was tastefully done. (I suspect the same is true of this ad … )
Ironically, when last we had this discussion my interest was piqued and I checked out Wayward Sons, and found it to be an excellent new webcomic in its own right – well drawn, complex characters, and a compelling storyline. The lowest end of the age range of Scott’s readers might not get as much out of Wayward Sons, but otherwise it’s a pretty decent fit.
I kind of hear the voice of the sword as a version of the one in Portal. Inhuman clinical detachment.
And heck yeah on Kickstart, sounds like a winner.
This is the first time the sword has “sounded” anything less than majestic to me. It’s like it’s confused at Alex in the last panel. Way to go, Alex, cause the sword to have an existential crisis!
Hey all!
Just an FYI…tomorrow’s page will be up around noon.
Sorry for the slight delay.
I agree, anything to raise your profile – perhaps you should consider World Domination?
I don’t know kickstart, but I am still interested in buying the books… so still interested in you publishing them! π
As Rod Lane above, I am non-US and worried (after some bad experience) about getting postage bills much higher than the value of the goods – that’s why packages (e.g. all 4 books) are better options.
Can you therefore somehow make it possible to pre-order the books 1 to 4 in one package, including intercontinental postage? I, for one, would have no problems in having the money transferred to you in advance, and getting the books whenever they are ready.
On another note – it’s not easy to please fans worldwide: when is noon for you? It’s 5 pm here and I still miss the page π
My previous message posted at “8:47” instead of the reasonable 16:47. Gosh, you are that much backwards in the US :-D.
I stand informed – 8pm it is for the update, will not be able to see it from the office, makes my work day that much more difficult…
Nice gravatar! I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard at a comic in I don’t know how long.
“That is my purpose…to find material suitable for AFV.”
