Page 1124…
Hi all!
Thank you for being so understanding with the delay in this page.
As things ramp up with potentially a lot of work (I’ll announce it when it’s official) my schedule will become more and more hectic (yes…I know…careful what you wish for)
It is my wish to continue daily with Dreamland until all 24 chapters are complete. But I know that may one day not be possible.
I’ll have to come to terms with it. But in the meanwhile…I’ll be apologizing every time I miss an update. Please forgive me for that.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. And hopefully I’ll be able to dazzle you with what comes next on Monday.
Thank you all.
Scott
of course we’ll be able to forgive you, we want to see a movie of this too!
Nick is going to play the game known as “Smacking the shaman on the head”
I wonder now.
Did Arthur become “gone” by getting reincarnated as the twins?
Something seems… off… about the shaman’s expression in the last panel…
Ah, so now it make sense how he got trapped and stuck asleep.
aww I see now
So this is the ‘curse’ Nicodemus spoke of….
If Arthur is going to get trapped as I expect, I find it too obvious.
I think it is better to have the nightmarecreature or our big dragon friend interrupt the process and thereafter revealing that Arthur is trapped.
So either the next few pages is going to be too obvious or totally unexpected.
I don’t know… If I were Arthur, I’d stack some sandwishes, some sunblock, extra clean pants and a toothbrush. Just in case you do get stuck.
My guess, nic interupts the incantation. Funny way of putting it though Arthur!
No worries, I have faith that you will one day complete the chapters. The only thing I see stoping you is the need for a 25th ch to finnish. Can’t very well stop at 24 if you need a 25, lol j/k :).
Just don’t forget: Dream no small dreams, for they have no power to move the hearts of men.” -Gothe [Me: Or anyone else for that matter.]
ohhh… well. if THAT is how arthur disappeared, it might not even be nic’s fault. hope the centaur and merlin have the incantation well memorized or else we can’t even blame the mess on the wraiths. 😉
but wow, does the centaur look eager in the last panel. if this were animated, I’d almost expect excited jumping. 😀
It all makes sense now! Poor centaur, Nick is so gonna distract him. Probably gonna whack him too, for good measure.
“become gone”. LOL
if the reincarnation theory involves arthur floating between the worlds for centuries before the twins were born, the poor guy surely died out of boredom. 😉
Well…
3 possibilities:
1.Nic is informed form the Wraiths and interrupts the Centaur
2. The Wraiths did not informed Nic and act by themselves interrupting either the Centaur, or Merlin, or both
3. A combination of the above.
Either way Arthur is going to be trapped between worlds and so starts the famous “curse”.
But as the above scenario is an expected one and Scott use to surprise us maybe there will be a “glitch” or something.
I’d rather a sporadic weekdays schedule over your burning yourself out and things going awry.
I think he is just comically insane, not malevolently insane.
I… think it was the Teddy Ancestor of that kid that was telling Alex about all the things his dad said shortly after he returned to Dreamland. He and his teddy son followed Arthur and the sage into the Tomb. Just after the centaur begins his incantations and Arthur is asleep.
“My dad says there’s a reason for everything.”
“My dad says that Human Kings are the best!”
“My dad says there’s nothing better than a fairy dust poultice… just lifts the hurt away, see?”
“W-wha… be silent now, my boy! Weren’t you listenin’? If he mispronounces any word…” Arthur disappears, as the centaur slightly cracks up. The father teddy whaps his head in exasperation.
“Well, that didn’t work…”
“NO…” Ol’ Dragon Butt says, entering the Hall. “It didn’t…”
Burns centaur… turns to teddies.
“Now, run along, whelps. Tell your people that a new king of Dreamland has risen.”
Nic turns to the sword after they’ve left and tries to pull it from the stone… it doesn’t budge.
Scott, don’t stress too much. Anything in the way of expanding this universe is good for all of us. Even if you have to cut back – officially – to 2 or 3 times a week for half a year or so while things happen (or however long it takes) we’ll all be there to support you through that. You’ve got a loyal fanbase who believe in Dreamland both as an idea and concept, but also as a lasting franchise.
Dare I say you have your own Camelot in US?
This is the same kind of thing as when you faced your health problems last year; you warned us we may be without Dreamland for a day or so, and we were cool with that. You health – both mental and physical – needs to come before any of your fans save your family.
I’m wondering what happens bodily to the Arthur sleeping in Camelot. Would both physical selves then vanish from their relative worlds? Merlin would then know something went wrong, at least. If so, possibly he is instrumental in working out the loophole for the twins.
There is even a very real possibility that Nic does not wish to “trap” Arthur between worlds. Nic may, or may not, interrupt the centaur, but how would he know the consequences?
So Nic really is not (at that time) the bad guy – he works to protect dreamland, which is is job, and until now at least did not do anything formally treasonous.
If that apllies, next question: how did Nic turn bad (as chancellor it’s logical that He takes control until the Return of the King)?
Well. Friday again. Ssava, we should all hate you for making us hate fridays (=2 days without dreamland) instead of loving it like the rest of mankind.
The upside – beside a potential great movie – of you having a less stable output is that delays may change (such as posting on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday) or so, thus making us appreciate Fridays again 🙂
Nice WE,
lc
so he is trapped between worlds.. since the was spell messed up, i have feeling i am about to be right again with the whole Merlin stashed his physical body some where and placed a enchantment so that the body didn’t rot
Centaur: “Very well, then, let us begin. Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn…”
Arthur: “WRONG INCANTATION!!!”
Scott, you take care of your business. We enjoy Dreamland, and look forward to it each day! But, you have to watch out for you and your family. Priorities!
it was unfortunate for the centaur shaman, and consequently Arthur, that Nic always carried sugar cubes with him…
at first i thought both Arthur and the shaman’s expressions in the last 2 panels were off given the situation, then i decided i actually like them. there’s been such an air of doom and gloom (and things go boom…wait, what?) that Arthur is like “OK, enough! let’s DO this thing!” and the shaman’s like “HOKAY!”
they’ve already decided to do this, now they need to DO it! (even though i still personally think it’s a Bad Idea)
Scott – Have you considered altering your update schedule until things cool down a little? A Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule would give you a couple of extra days to get the pages done when you can. You’ve been so on top of getting things posted in the past, we’d all understand the need for a little break.
I don’t mind going down to three days a week. Business with Hollywood is very important. It’ll get Dreamland out to countless new fans, and a lot more money in the coffers.
Scott, I hate to bring such a nitpicky thing up, but you seem to be open to suggestions on dialogue. The dialogue in panel four is really awkward. I think it would flow better if you phrased it this way:
“Well, then, my friend–you two bloody well better finish that incantation.”
If you really want “I suggest” in there, I’d add “I suggest you get started” and have the centaur showing deference (“my liege” or something like it). Right now, the I suggest plus the bloody well sounds like a sarcastic response to danger and a threat mixed together. Unfortunately, together neither feels effective.
Please know I really love this story, I’m not trying to rag on you. You do a fantastic job. This is a suggestion.
Have a great day!
Methinks he could have done well to provide himself better security in a situation like this.
Don’t be so worried! Why is that a lot of Internet entertainers feel they betrayed their fans when they miss an update or two? Come on! Its your life you’re meant to live it, if that means a few day delay then it means that.
Its not like if we had bought tickets to a grand theater play two months before the play, drove six hours to the city where it happens, waited another two for the show begin and then being told that the main actor called in sick. No this is just a few quick (free) click of buttons.
So don’t feel sorry, we’re fans so we can support you, not so we can leave you at the drop of a hat :).
I agree with the thought that Nic would not voluntarily trap Arthur. I am thinking that he allows things to happen and then takes the Amulet. Things go down and something happens that splits the waking world and dream world in the aftermath. This leaves the window open for Alex to get the Amulet, bring it to Dan, and then Dan can go to Dreamland with Alex and defeat Nicodemus as “a complete king of dreamland.”
The schedule is there for you, not for us.
I doubt any reasonable security would be able to stop Nicodemus. Even a more normal attacker might be able to disrupt the chanting despite security. Instead Arthur is going for low profile in a rarely visited place. Not a whole lot they can do if they can’t find him, and more security would make him easier to find.
Clatto Verata N… Necktie… Neckturn… Nickel… It’s an “N” word, it’s definitely an “N” word! Clatto… Verata… N-[coughs]
What? I said it … basically. Look, maybe I didn’t say every single little tiny syllable, no. But basically I said them, yeah.
😉
I think the next for pages are going to be pretty obvious, but I don’t mind. I would really like to see how the scene is going to play out.
I’m also interested to see how the barrier will be set up that isn’t passable for Dreamlanders – I always wondered if Nicodemus was trapped inside the ruins or if is able to pass it by some other means (magic, a back door?). And who did the inscription that Alex later on finds on the grave?
The wiki explains some of that. Just don’t know about the inscription yet.

Man, I’ve had to play massive catch up thanks to net troubles. Enjoyed the most recent pages. And I agree, something is just begging to go wrong.
I feel the need to comment on the schedule thing too, lol. I agree with everyone else. You do what you gotta do. Everyone here seems totally understanding that life is crazy at times.
I love your twisted mind Silverwolf
but your comment did make me realise something. In this story we have Alex and Daniel Carter whilst over in HP Lovecrafts dreamland stories one of the pivotal characters was a Randolph Carter.
Maybe it wasn’t the wrong incantation Arthur.
Now that puts a whole new perspective on the Nightmare Realm
If you miss an update that’s fine by me. heck if I have to wait for them to come out as books, and I had to buy them, I would. I love Dreamland, its worth the wait!
“I’ll be apologizing every time I miss an update. Please forgive me for that”
THAT was strangest thing I’ve ever heard. It’s WE who should THANK YOU for years of amazing work. And if somone complains because of delays, then that person should be ashamed for great ungracefulness 🙂
It sounds about right to me. Arthur comes across as just a bit arrogant – he genuinely doesn’t believe the ritual is going to fail for any reason. His response is lightheartedly sarcastic; Merlin is likely protected enough where he is and he doesn’t think anybody else knows where he and the centaur are right now. His expression matches it, too.
The centaur himself looks a bit odd in panel 4, in contrast to panel 2… like someone flipped the switch from “solemn” to “lol” on him. Makes him suddenly look excited to do the ritual when he was worried about it a second ago.
It just seems to contrast the second panel too much. Like Arthur’s joking response suddenly made him eager to start the ritual.
Actually, he did OK until reality TV became the norm. THAT is what did him in! 🙂
For me, the third and last panels are a bit off because of the shaman’s teeth. In the third panel, you can barely see his teeth. In the last panel, they are invisible, which makes him look more like a circus clown.
Sorry, no shame here. Just annoyance. So where’s today’s comic?! Tsk, “Least I Could Do” is a comic from Monday to Sunday and they’ve never missed an update, EVER!
Cut the guy some slack ok. I am upset for the lack of updates, but to whine and moan does nothing good. On the contrary, most of the time makes the artist a little bit… angry.
Plus least I could do doesn’t have a 10 hours rendering time per comic.
Besides, you get what you pay for.
…Umm, you are paying for this comic, aren’t you, Lax?
Why should I pay when I can look it for free? 🙂 Buy the hardcover if you want, but I’ll stick to the online one 😀 And there is nothing wrong to expect quality out of it, too
Just cause it’s all digital and stuff doesn’t make it so awesome. Humor, storyline, suspense – such things also matter. And trust me, it’s only one artist that makes LICD come to life – Lar, the guy behind the awesome texture. And he does an awesome job without using some fancy 3D art
OK, that was uncalled for. It is your PRIVILEGE that the artist decided to put this up for free. The production cost is NOT zero; someone had to invest in the equipment, someone had to spend the time to put the ideas in order, someone had to render and touch up the images, and someone had to put it up every day. You have no right to demand anything for something that is graciously put up for free. The world is not yours just because you think it should be. Please grow up.
Whatever you say, Lurker 😀 I’ll stick to my demands, if you don’t mind (well, it doesn’t matter even if you do). If it wasn’t for us readers, he would have completely stopped updating, so I believe we’re kind of a wake-up call every now and then
Arthur’s line in the second-to-last panel made me lol so hard! XDDD
I can’t help but think Lax is Lar…
You sure are entitled much, aren’t you? To the best of my knowledge, this is only the second time period in which the comics here have ever been delayed. The first following a personal injury.
While I do agree that LICD/LFG/their assorted guest comics they do in addition should all be praised for coming in a timely fashion, that doesn’t mean that anyone anywhere who delays for any reason whatsoever should be bashed.
You’re enough of a jerk about the content you’re reading for free that I hope you somehow get IP banned from the site. Sava isn’t one of the many web comic artists out there that delay more consistently than they produce.
tl;dr: Stfu.
@Amun – No, that I can assure you is not true. The real Lartist (another nick he uses) is kind and is totally opposite of me. Heh, even I wouldn’t go so far as to insult his name, on the net or anywhere else for that matter.
@Brenan – whatever 🙂
Hey all!
Sorry for the lack of update. As promised….movie stuff has taken me away just a bit.
I will hopefully be updating mid day tomorrow. If not by end of day.
I need to apologize for any misunderstanding. This particulary movie is NOT Dreamland (that’s still going on…but not taking up much of my time).
This is for the Ed’s Terrestrials movie.
I will update you all as soon as I can. And thank you again for your patience.
For the record. This is the FOURTH day I’ve ever missed in 4 and a half years.
The first being last year when I got injured. Then of course last week’s day…and Monday and Tuesday of this week.
I know some of you are angry and might think I’m “a slacker”.
I take this VERY seriously. And have been for many years now.
It’s hard for me to come to terms that I can NOT always make the updates as more parts of my career are pulling me away. But please know I’ll always do my best to communicate what’s going on…and will continue to work towards finishing the story in a timely manner.
Thanks again
Scott
People really tell you that they are angry? they call you a slacker? really?? shame on them. Unless they are paying you a ridiculous amount of money to get it out on time, then they need to shut it.
I wish you the best with Ed’s Terrestrials, hope its a great success!
Saw you wrote about bring out 24 chapters… can’t wait! no matter how long it takes (hey, you could make this a once a week update and I would still tune in, every week to read it.)
So to those people who complained about you missing a couple of days…… tsk. (only tsk, since it is a family comic!)
Take your time, chill out. If people can’t handle a minor setback, than shame on them. It’s not like you will stop making the comic.
Hey, no problems here. If not finding an update is the biggest problem I have all day, things are going pretty well.
Thanks, Kaden. This was very informative.
Awesome comic so far! By the way, I’m not the only one who thinks that Authur probably sounds like Seun Conery, am I?
We’re only human, don’t worry about it. After all it couldn’t be helped if problems arise, and you make them a rarity.
Scott. as sad as i am to not see the updates. i do take the time to read your blogs to see why and whats going on that may keep you. take your time. as life does take you away from time to time to give you a break from something you may not of realized you needed. of course it doesnt feel like one as its making your mind work on something else (thus its called life x-x). im still a huge fan. and im still trying to figure out all the 3D studio technology i can do from home. (failing currently but learning). and you are my main inspiration. so Take your time. do what you have to do. and keep up the amazing work! -Keifeto Darkles aka Keifer McCormack
I guess you mean Sean Connery
I am now forever going to be hearing Sean Connery’s voice as King Arthur! Of course Sean Connery was Scotish… I believe King Arthur was English… So Perhaps Patrick Stewart instead?
So we have the Arthur role chosen… who would be playing the rest of the cast?
Or alternately, the person who played Arthur in “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”
Though Sean Connery would totally rock it.
Slightly sad to hear it’s NOT a Dreamland movie… yet. But it’s very cool that Ed’s Terrestrials will be going there first. Don’t stress or fret too much. Your family and career come first; provide for them, then come back with more Dreamland. You are a professional, Scott. That’s something that we all can respect.
*chuckles* I read through the whole thing again last week, reading all of the lines out loud… at least for the male parts. My baritone just doesn’t do any of the female denizens of Dreamland any justice. That was pretty fun, trying to voice how I imagine the characters would sound. Arvamas turned out to be a slightly stuffy British-accented guy. Consequently he was one of the characters I had the most fun reading out loud. Go figure.
I’m SOOOO going to have to do that with my own kids some day. You know, when I’m married… and -have- kids.
As a general matter, if you’re so inclined please remember to vote if you enjoy Dreamland.
http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx
Take your time, mate. It’s your story to tell
No worries, Scott. My take on the whole missed updates has always been as long as I know the author is okay & let’s his (or her) readers know that periodically I can wait as long as it takes.
As far as the complainers & self-righteous ones who think you are their own personal artist subject to all their whims & demands, ignore them. If you respond to them & try to get them to see reason you only give them more fuel to add to their imagined sense of self importance As Abraham Lincoln once said, “People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
(I apologize in advanced if anyone is offended by the stereotypes contained in this post, but I thought it was pretty funny when it just popped into my head and I wanted to share)
You good-fer-nuthin west coast slacker! Yeah, yeah, I know you live in da south now, but you is from the west coast and we all know those hollywood-types are a bunch of class A slackers and good-fer-nuthin liberals! Get your hind parts back in that chair and start drawing boy! You here me! Otherwise I’m gonna let ole Bertha here (she’s my prize pig) run amok in that fancy room you got there you call a “studio” and eat all those little “action figures” that we here call dolls for lunch!
🙂
Scott, the only request I have is that you finish the comic before the movie is released. We all know that the books are better then the movies…. 🙂
Ooops, I guess when you put stuff in the greater than and less than it don’t show. Here is what got cut right after the apology… 🙂
[SCENE: An old fashioned moonshine still in the woods of the deep south with a decrepit old shack next to it. A very large dirty hillbilly type in overalls and straw hat steps out of the shack angrily waving an iPad in one hand and yells at the camera with a strong southern drawl]
Thank you all!
Does this mean we get two pages today? Most excellent!
In any case, thanks for a great comic – its worth the wait.
What a slacker!
Kidding of course!
No worries. Keeping up a quality web comic like Dreamland 5 days a week is very impressive. Taking a couple days off to catch up other things is highly understandable.
I think only one commenter was angry and insulting. Your REAL fans are supportive and understanding. Any disappointment we might have pales next to the indignation toward anyone who would attack you. We recognize that it is a privilege to read you comic everyday and appreciate the hard work you put into this quality comic. I wonder if anyone who complained worked during the holiday weekend. Or if they just expect you to.
Thanks for giving us an update today. When the same page uploaded this morning I was worried about what might have happened to you.
I cannot believe people would get angry about a few missed days for something they get FOR FREE, while the artist has to invest time, energy, and finances into the project AND support a family at the same time. Do these kids really have no perspective whatsoever?! Their sense of entitlement has gone to the point of being inconsiderate and immature. Seriously, to all you who complain about the lack of updates: grow up already. This is not *your* webcomic, and the artist has bloody well the right to update whenever the heck he wants, whether you like it or not. He could bloody well decide to STOP updating forever, and guess what? You won’t be able to do a thing about it. It’s only out of his generosity and diligence that he has kept up with these updates all these years, while all you do is to sit back like a couch potato and whine and moan and groan about every little glitch in an immensely time-consuming effort AND have the audacity to declare that you will not be contributing a single cent by freeloading off the online version. It’s Scott’s choice to put this hard work up for free, but if you’re just going to freeload, you should at least have the shame to shut up about it. You aren’t even paying him a single cent, and you think you have the right to demand updates? Seriously.
I do agree.
Just promise that you will come here every morning to tell us you’re ok. Do you promise?
I was a little worried about what might have happened to you.
You’re not the only one, though it didn’t occur to me until that
“bloody well” line, now I can’t get it out of my head.
I’m with you–this is the point I was trying to make with Lax just above. As long as you are not paying for the privilege, you don’t have the right to demand much. Now, if this were a subscription site, the subscribers might have the right to demand promptness, or get testy when other demands of life intervened. As it is, we can just be thankful that the delays are so rare, since Scott is so dedicated.
Thank you, Scott. As far as I’m concerned, these occasional interruptions only make your record all the more impressive. There are plenty of webcomics out there that have a lot less production time and quality that still cannot seem to update each week, much less five times per week.
The original Arthur was Welsh or Briton–so Scot would be a reasonable facsimile, as would a Breton also. Arthur might also have kept a lot of Roman influence, but that’s harder to find a suitable accent. So few people speak Latin regularly nowadays. A Breton speaker again, for the French influence? Galatia in NW Spain??
On the other hand, by moving Camelot to the 1300s, perhaps Arthur is English. So, really, Scott can do what he wants, and explain it away by a suitable positioning of Camelot…
wow! you guys are so supportive. I was wondering why there were no trolls here.
Scott you have lots of people that think its O.K. if you only post 2 or 3 times a week. LISTEN TO THEM!
This update should have been up at the top though instead of buried down in the comments.
I’m enjoying the story as always, but something did occur to me: I’ve always understood the word “bloody” to be a profanity in British English. As I’m American I could be wrong, but that was my understanding. So I guess I have two questions:
1) Is my understanding of the usage of “bloody” correct?
2) And, if it is, do you feel there is a need to change the wording, Scott?
It personally doesn’t offend me, but I just wondered if it would offend others, and I know you’re very careful about keeping things family-friendly and not offending people.
If YOU are a “slacker” then it must be OPPOSITE DAY. (or else I’d hate to see someone who was Hard Working … lol)
Get your stuff done, and post WHEN YOU CAN !!!
As you know by now … WE WILL BE HERE.
Peace
It’s not quite a profanity as I understand it. I think it ranks slightly under “damn well” in this case.
Ah, okay. No worries then!
There’s usually one troll in any given bunch of readers, being a jerk just to get a rise out of the other readers. Sounds like Lax is our troll. Yep, he had a lot of chutzpah, but then look at his moniker. Lax? It doesn’t sound like a person who should be pointing fingers.
Quantity might rule over quality in the mass market, but anyone with class would opt for quality over quantity given the option. I’ve been constantly amazed how this web novel has updated religiously 5 days a week for so many years. Maybe there are others out there doing the same, but I don’t know of any others. Keep up the good work, Scott, regardless of the time it takes.
I love how Arthur reminds me of Sean Connery.
… Technically, the fact that Arthur is swearing kinda makes this the second non-kiddy-friendly page for the same reason again.
