The Making of Dreamland Page 31…
So I added the page for a wiki.
http://thedreamlandchronicles.wikidot.com/
But I’m not sure what to do next.
I added an Alexander Carter page.
But we really need some contributors to come on and help set it up.
This will be something we add to the site navigation bar on top. So new readers can check out story facts.
And we can start adding names to background characters and I’ll fill in some fun history and whatnot.
But I definitely need your help.
I’ll eventually make it semi-private in that not everyone can edit. But first we’ll need to establish a membership.
Please check it out. And please have fun.
🙂

The scene reminds me of Avatar. One big tree… one big family. Great story.
Wow, those designs are certainly beautiful and really has the feel of an elven kingdom 🙂
I echo what Priceless said – it really does have the feel of an elven kingdom. Very cool – thanks for sharing, Scott.
I think this wiki is an incredibly cool idea. I may not be a good sampling of ‘normal’ people :P, but I do enjoy learning more about the characters, places, and history of Dreamland (both inside the story and without). Hopefully I’m not the only one.
I am also by no means an experienced wiki editor, nor am I a writer by a long shot, but it seems like such a fun project and to be a part of something Dreamland related is an opportunity I’d not want to pass up. So I went and added a couple little pieces (please, please someone go and improve those), and it’s really not hard to do. Pretty easy to get started even if you don’t know much about wiki editing. And since there’s not much there yet, it’s not really hard to find something to add or improve, even for those relatively new to the story.
As I was using it though, it did raise some more questions. Probably the biggest thing that occurred to me was the use of images. I’m not sure what’s ok to use. My guess is that since both the art and the wiki are owned by Scott, that using images from the comic/books are going to be ok as long as it’s not something that’s a one time element (like the Felicity notes). Is it ok to cut out pieces of images like a single panel or even a smaller piece (like the avatar images)? Is it ok to add a layer over the top, say circling some important feature? Not asking for an exhaustive list of rules, but I think a kind of general idea of the guidelines would help people have an idea of what’s acceptable or not. Do we need to worry about replicating some kind of copyright message for images, or can that just be handled globally in some way so the average poster doesn’t have to worry about it? What artwork should/shouldn’t we use (like I reused some avatar images for character thumbnails, which I think are all done by Scott)?
I guess what I mean to say is that I like most (all?) of us here recognize the incredible work Scott has poured into The Dreamland Chronicles for all of us and part of understanding that is respecting it. It’s his work and I for one wouldn’t want to do anything with his work without knowing he’s ok with it.
So cool though. Thanks for setting this up for us Scott so we can all experience more of the Dreamland world! Of course now I’m going to have to set aside an even bigger chunk of my morning to read both the comic and the wiki… 🙂
Longest post :P.
I’ve applied, but I’m not yet in. 🙂
that WIKI thing is way beyond me, but I just KNOW you’ll have some very good and dedicated people making that thing into an unbelievable resource … congrats on getting it set up!
Right now it’s open to the public. No application process.
Thanks.
I figure let’s get something going.
We can always add copyrights and such later on.
But definitely we’ll use lots of images.
Once we have some structure…we’ll organize it a bit more.
Hopefully there’ll be a few people who have knowledge of Wiki’s enough to guide us.
Just added some more pages.
TO keep things going.
Thanks to all who are helping organize this.
Ah, I see 🙂
Stefano has such a marvelous talent. The environments of Dreamland are so incredible!
Hmmm, don’t know much about setting up a Wiki, but it sounds like a good idea!
ow! I really like this one!!!!
ashendel is such a cool place to be:P
I signer up for an account, still no confirmation email so I can’t log in.
Stefano is AWESOME with his designs, a total genius.
Busy day at work today; didn’t get a chance to come by and post a VOTE reminder (though I did drop in at TWC long enough to vote myself).
I like the design picture for the elevator cages. That’s pretty much what I was envisioning on how it worked. (I wonder if the dwarves helped them design the gearwork … )
😉
oh wow they look gorgeous
