Page 1020…
Hey all!
Well the “blog up top” experiment didn’t go as I’d plan.
I think we’ll call it “blogontopgate”.
Still…it’s good to know what the REST of my audience thinks.
Nice to hear from them.
Only 1 more day left of this chapter. And only a day or two left on some of the charity auction sketchcards.
For you webcomic readers…we have art from some of your favorite webcomics too.
PVP, Penny Arcade, Lacksadaisy, Girl Genius, and so much more.
So…please do check them out.
You can still get some of these for only $1.
PLEASE CLICK HERE TO SEE THE EBAY AUCTIONS!
And here’s the making of today’s page.
Thanks all for joining in and helping me out.
Ok. That’s it.
See you all tomorrow (or later today if you’re reading this in the morning)
Scott
Nothing wrong with Alexander’s courage.
Wisdom. . . . mmmmmm. . . . maybe he needs a bit more time with Orion for that.
love the page! 😀
this would be my reaction too…just alittle be more. RAWR over the Cliff and into the air after nick before Orion COULD stop me xD. and id be fried to a crisp and Alex would live xD lol
welll my picture…it mocks me…really? wow…ouch >.<
If Nick burned Ashendel and the fairy village, why wouldn’t he burn Aethos as well? Or was it because the elven tablet was inside the castle and the fairy tablet was maybe somewhere within the village, and not on its own like the Aethos tablet?
Lol, good point.
I have a big sword. I can take a dragon without a solid plan!
Ahh anger 🙂 It makes us do dumb things for the right reasons 🙂
I never commented before – but I just wanted to tell that I do both read the blog and the comic. I like it more, however, when the comic is on top. 🙂
Oh man, this page communicated intensity very well, I’m all excited now.
Aaaand of course this is when the chapter ends and the break to restore the page buffer starts >_<
Courage = Great, but thank goodness Orion was there to stop him or we would definitely not have a hero anymore 🙂
I wonder if he’ll use just the sword when he does get rid of Nicodemus. Scale-wise the sword’s probably only as big as his toenail.
He needs to level up a bit more before takeing on the final boss. o3o
Hehe…. that’s a good one. 🙂
But I agree: my reckoning is, he’ll have to wait for another 10 chapters to face Nic. So maybe the chapters can be counted as levels…?
I hope Orion has a plan :p
If Alex is the triforce of Courage, and Nick of power, that makes Orion Zelda?
Comic is great. but I love to read the comments. It is so fun to read what others think of the page and their input. I have Three words for Alex. “Go gettem tiger” 🙂
Some of those sketch cards really make me wish I had an eBay account.
Hope the sketch card fundraiser is going well 🙂 and thanks for heeding your reader’s response and returning the page to normal. I hope you consider the links I sent you, though 🙂 If you’d LIKE to have your blog on the top.
Think back to the Kraken…>.>
Yup
Thank you Ness.
woo-hoo!
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not the centaurs, War on. why is it that orion doesn’t seem pissed or to have any sort of anger in him.
But what if Nick falls to Alex? I suspect centaurs are doomed already.
Totally agree Kitten.. both with the enjoying reading the comments and Go Gettem Tiger! 😀
Great page today! Yesh Alex is ready, or so he thinks, to run off to the rescue. I have a hunch Nic is doing more damage by destroying the tablets than he would be by snagging them and hiding them. Hmmmm… 😀
omg! i love lackadaisy comics! -throws hands up-
because as he stated he knows it will end? i’m sure he probably feels angry, he’s just able to control it?
lol i was thinking Nastajia would be Zelda? They’re both princesses..
Thanks Scott. I too prefer just being able to click to the page and the comic is there. I always scroll down to see if there is new blog content also.
It’s best with the page on top. I always read the blog anyway, but
Read comic without spoilers > Give the mouse wheel a spin > Read blog
is faster and more pleasant than either
Read blog with spoilers > Aim mouse at tiny thumbnail and click > Wait for page to load > Read comic already spoiled
or definitely
Aim mouse at tiny thumbnail and click > Wait for page to download > Read comic without spoilers > Aim mouse at the back button and click > Read blog
Sitting at the airport checking this via Google’s partnering with Boingo for free wireless at all major American airports through January 15 (at least, it seems that way from talking to friends from several places). Unfortunately, my flight has been delayed, but that gave me extra time to check out today’s page and VOTE, instead of doing it tomorrow after I crashed at my destination in L.A.
Well, I for one hope you don’t crash. I’d miss your witty commentary in here.
(Though I’m sure, or at least I hope, there’s more to your life than just commenting on a webcomic, even if it is the best webcomic around … ) 😉
Comic readers, blog readers, and anyone else who’s made it down this far: VOTE! It’s not difficult; all you have to do is click this link: http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx
Let’s show Scott there are no hard feelings from “blogontopgate”!
The page looks great. Thanks for letting us look over your shoulder to watch you work.
I second that!
Great page, Scott! A plot expertly handled which placed the tablet separate from the village. That way, the ole dragon doesn’t have to go through the village to get to it, and Alex can stay hidden longer.
And I do like this set up better! It was a little awkward expecting to see the comic and then getting to the comment section before I saw the page I was going to comment on… or something like that…
Easy enough to set up. All you need is a credit card and an e-mail address. Or if you are underage, ask one of your parents set up their own and tell them what you want to bid on.
nice page, just like the comic.
But isn’t “What about X?” right, instead of “What of?” I#m just wondering…
ps: English is not my mothertongue, that#s why I’m asking 😉
I’d vote–but it won’t take my vote for another 13+ hours…
English has a rich variety of ways to say things. “What of my people? What of Aethos?” can mean something like “What would come of [=happen to] my people? What would come of [happen to] Aethos?”
“What about my people?” sounds more neutral to me–what about them? Do you care about them?
“What of my people?” has more a sense of you should remember them in your plans.
Neither is wrong really, it’s a choice between saying something that will stand out, with the “of” or ‘about’ which is more common in ‘the real’.
And bmonk has it right too. Yu gude at ‘splaining tings. (translated from my native Trollish)
Got a laptop? And maybe a nearby Whataburger, or Starbucks, or McDonalds, or anywhere else that has free wifi? Go out for lunch (or dinner, or whatever is appropriate in your time zone), log in from the hotspot, and vote again!
(j/k, and thanks for already having voted … )
😉
Thanks for bringing the layout back. Hope you weren’t too disheartened by the experiment not going as planned, but we love what you’ve already been doing here!
I also want to take the time to at least tell you once how much I really enjoy this comic. I love the fantasy/reality mix, the positive values, and I’m grateful how you’re not afraid to draw upon established cliches in an industry that forgot why we treasured so many of them in the first place. Most recently, I’ve specifically noticed and appreciated the sophisticated lighting effects and the way you’ve exceptionally conveyed strong emotions in the faces of Alex and Orion. I’ve also taken for granted that you update so frequently and so much more reliably than other established comic artists, so thank you for all the hard work and discipline you put into this every day.
Keep up the great work!

If Nicodemus falls to Alex, he literally falls…and splatters Aethos under his weight and bulk.
Orion: “Do you have a plan for defeating Nicodemus?”
Alex: “Sure. I stick the pointy end of this thing in the red dragon.”
Nastajia: “What if he breathes fire?”
Alex: “Fireproof shielding.”
Kiwi: “What if he swallows you whole?”
Alex: “I cut him apart from the inside.”
Orion: “What if he smacks you two hundred yards away like the Kraken did, then comes back for us?”
Alex: “…okay, I need to refine this plan.”
I third it!
The sword.. aaaahhhhh!!!! It is so amazing, the reflection is beautiful eye candy 83. Orion does have a point, but you forget the most important point, if he slays the dragon, the comic will come to an end sooner than planned!
“But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan’s apprentice.” – Do I really need to say who said it?????????
Also depends on the dialect… North American Indians would say it the way Orion does, New Zealand Maori would say “Whatabout the Bros?” (yes that should all be said as one word)… “Must of people you think” – Yoda…
Unless of course there was ANOTHER dragon who betrayed the king 600 years ago and Nic is simply the ‘friendly’ face for his rule…
Mmm.
I think Yoda would say it.
“Of the people…you must think”
🙂
Yeah, I do seem to have a way of making plays on words without intending to. My bad.
So, my plane was delayed in Milwaukee this morning until 3:30 pm courtesy of the need for a complete rip-out and reinstallation of the onboard flight computer (I was supposed to leave at 8:45 am and arrive in Los Angeles at about 5 CST). Seeing as how it’s now 8 CST and I’ll be boarding my final plane shortly, as you can imagine, it’s been a crazy long day. However, along with some extra Bible reading, I read book 3 of the Chronicles of The Imaginarium Geograhica, and was able to vote twice today courtesy of being in multiple airports (which means different IP addresses). 😉
My problem with thumbnails is I always skip the blogs because I click the ‘read page now’ thumbnail, then read the page, then move on to my next internet target, I forget to go back and read the blogs. (Isn’t that hilarious? They try to force me to read the blog by making the comic a thumbnail and I never read the blog. But if the comic and blog are on the same page, I almost always read the blog. XD)
does anyone know where the voting button is? It seems to have run off somewhere…
Conga Rats on not crashing, and kudos for the multiple votes!
😉
Wow; on top of all that other talent, Scott also speaks fluent Yoda!
Strong with this one, the Force is …
😉
Here ya go: http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx
too true!
I can’t help but wonder what would happen if Alex had attacked now. I mean think about it, he’s come to blows with Nic a few times before, and each time he’s been fine and Nic’s come out of it with a new scar. And that was all before his training montage.
“Of my people, think, you must” sounds more Yodan.
