Page 1015…
Hi all.
Well…it looks like I am going to be trying my hand at TEACHING!
Yes…I’ve been invitedΒ to teach a course at O’More College of Design.
I’m going to be teaching a course on STORYTELLING.
They asked me what I’d like to teach…and this is something I find the most fun.
Β
So…anyone in the Nashville area who wants to spend 15 weeks with me as we create our own comics…come on by.
I’ve never taught before…so I’m pretty excited.
Β
The funny thing is. I’ve only just agreed to it today…and the class is already 75% full!
So…WOW. Thank you all!
I’ll post more as I figure it out.
Any teachers out there know how to put together a Syllabus?
π
o3o I’d totaly want to be your student!
…..>.>…….<.<…..FIRST COMMENT!
I would love to be a student who’ll learn how to make comics!…. But I don’t live in that area. π Bummer….
Hey, where can I sign up? Is there an online section?
Anyway…I think if I was Alex, I would be totally ticked off. Something like, “That tears it,” would come out of my mouth and I’d be immediately going to fight. Will someone at LEAST get that blasted amulet away from that stupid dragon?!
lol, sorry, I got rather into it there… That’s a sign you’re doing a great job, scott!
*blinks* Wow…that avatar is perfect on facial expression, at least… Not gender, but pretty close. π
And the angry Kiwi fit perfiktly with that rant, lol.
I would love to attend, and as Druke said is there an online section?
and I can hear Alex giving a Homer Simpson “d’oh!” right about now…. LOL!
Did you give Felicity feline eyeglow in panel 2? Looks like it. Awesome.
All 1000+ pages of Dreamland Chronicles should be required reading. And you could give quizzes on recent story events to make sure they’ve been reading.
Creating a Syllabus is easy. Just paint a big old clown face on a 15 passenger van and you get a very silly bus.
Seriously, though, you can google “creating a syllabus” and get dozens of articles on building a syllabus for a course. Like this extended tutorial from the University of Minnesota
http://www1.umn.edu/ohr/teachlearn/tutorials/syllabus/index.html
or this considerably shorter one from the University of of Michigan
http://www.crlt.umich.edu/gsis/P2_1.php#
You should also contact the dean to see if they have a template, required content, or standard format for their course syllabi.
Oh no! That’s like an iconic war movie line: The young officer pokes his head up over the trenches… the seasoned veteran says “Get down, son,” and pushes the young officer to safety. Then….
No!!!!!!
I don’t think that Orion can duck in cover… four feet and all. Plus he has natural camo, which gives him a +2 AC…. ok let’s just say that the centaur is much harder to spot from a big blue armor sparkly thingy in the moonlight.
You should ask the department for a sample syllabus. Each university has their own rules about how a syllabus should be presented. Oftentimes, there are generic statements that must be included.
yay for alex-pushing. π
but with that glowing armor, it’s really for the best. orion blends in so much better. π
“To charge in and try and save the tablet… or to wait back here until I know whats happening… Some one needs to decide and I want to start doing some thing. Orion, let us decide on what to do!” I imagine Alex is going through some thing like that. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
I doubt weapons like that exist commonly in Dreamland… And if they do, I blame Scott for not showing them off in the comic. Still doubt that there is some thing like that though. Besides, Orion’s to stubborn to go down easily and Alex is probably willing to act as a human shield.
Hee! I love how Orion just grabs Alex’s head! Hilarious! Thats happened to me before……
Your teaching? Awww now I wish I lived in Nashville….or the U.S for that matter….
would make sense, she /is/ a catgirl after all :u i agree it looks awesome
too bad the commute from Macon Ga is too far ….. maybe you can video and post the classes online?
I could see “This Is War” by 30 Seconds To Mars playing in the background of this and the coming scenes.
I wonder if Alex would have Paddington use Wolverine’s/Colossus’ speedball technique?
Great job on the story Chris!!! You got me hooked from the start! I wish I could attend your storytelling course. It would be so rad!!!
Now to learn the art of dragon slaying.
I love Nic, he makes teh story most interesting. Gratz on the Teaching position =D. Livestreeaam please ~
Scott,
I have found that creation of a syllabus is often easiest if you start at the finish. State what the student will learn (yeah-yeah, if they are present, awake, willing, and work) by the end of the class. Then break down each skill they will learn into pieces as to how they will learn said knowledge.
Kristle is right, find a syllabus guideline but go a step further and find a mentor to help/guide/answer questions.
Nancy says she wants to go to a college where she can take a story-telling class
Congrats!! That’s awesome they asked you to teach a class. I bet you’ll do great! π
And yesh! Alex still doesn’t have a clue. lol!
Thank you all.
I think the school will give me some sample Syllabi. So that’ll help.
And good morning!
π
I lol’ed at the last panel XD
Conga Rats on the teaching position, Scott! My best friend is going to be jealous; he’s working on his Doctorate and is having difficulty finding a teaching job …
Here’s a MS Word template that may help you get started on the syllabus: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010184081033.aspx
Great page today! Yeah, Alex has learned a lot, but still forgets on occasion that the glowing, neon-colored elf-armor does tend to catch the light and paint a bulls-eye on him …
@everyone: VOTE! http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx
Incredibly strong and resistant to damage the armor is. Camouflage, it ain’t. That’s cool that you’ll be teaching Scott.
Orion: “Get down, son. Start polishing my hooves.”
I didn’t expect Orion to be the type to use “son” that way.
I would love to be in your class! But sadly, there’s an Atlantic ocean in the way…
I started clicking this panel and it kept loading the same one! I looked at the date it was posted and realized that it was just barely posted today. I’m all caught up within five days of starting and I can’t get enough! Congratulations on a great comic!
Yay! So cool about the teaching gig, Scott! My son is graduating and should be teaching middle school next year.
Yeah, that shiny armor is not exactly meant for covert operations…
If I lived in Nashville I would so take that class. I am sure you will be an amazing teacher.
grrr!!!!!!! i used to live in memphis, last year, i could get to nashville and take your class if i still lived there!! what a bummer T^T…… this sucks.. ..
LOL the icon goes good.. xD anyway about the comic first thing that came in mind was
” OH NOES!!!! ” i think him destroying the towns and cities is just starting an all-out war.. he should srsly think b4 he does stuff and WONT SOMONE TAKE AWAY THAT STUPID AMULET?! ._. and btw i LOOOOVE the glowing felicity eyes!!! π i think you’re awesome scott and keep up the good work also good luck with the class π
Stupid Atlantic Ocean!
Orion: “Alex. I am your father.”

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n238/Chunkboi/Motivators/RevolutionaryMobsMotivator.jpg
Thank you! And Welcome!
Ack! Redundant post! Can you delete the previous one?
I guess Alex isn’t much of a gamer to not try to use cover effectively. Still love the expression on his face, “Don’t treat me like a child!”
So this is a really minor touch in this comic, but I love how in the second panel, you can’t see Felicity, but you can see her eyes glowing. It makes it so real. I have a black cat so I’m well acquainted with the can’t see the cat but her eyes reflect thing.
Amazing as usual! =)
Nice, I hope you enjoy the teaching π
As for sillybus, i am not sure i can spell that!
I wish I could come to your class, but I live in California :(. I also like Alex’s expression in the last panel and it also shows the bond of master/student that is between Orion and Alex. I don’t think Orion is the kind of centaur to call anyone “son” (except his biological ones) so this is a nice little insight.
I just noticed Paddington in the second panel, brilliant!
A human shield with nigh impenetrable armour, mind you.
LOL, great pic for that comment! π
If it was online, It would peak my interest. Kinda hard to hit a class in Nashville from California.
I’d SO take the course, but I’m several states away from there π
I keep getting this panicky ‘oh crap, what are they gonna do NOW?’ feeling – I know it’s part of the overall story, I just can’t help but despair a bit over the loss of the historical tablets… especially the one in Gardenia that they DIDN’T read. I await more with bated breath.
Too bad some fanfic writers can’t take that class(blast my living in Colorado). Great story as usual, and I’m glad Felicity is doing better.
Is it just me or does Nastajia’s cape in the first panel look REALLY weird? o_O In order for it to be like that, there should be a strong wind and her left hand should be in contact with the cape. But there’s no wind judging from the looks of the other characters and the cape is a mile away from Nastajia’s fingers.
“What’s your super-power?”
“I’m nigh invulnerable!”
– The Tick
Have you ever worn a cape? I have, on occasion, and I wore a duster for many years. They can do really weird things when you move around in them, even with no wind. Especially during quick or sudden moves.
Here, I picture that she is just in the process of a whirling turn toward Orion and possibly also starting to move in his direction already. That would fit with the scene, and her reflexes, and her psychological outlook (i.e. respect) toward Orion. And the motion of the cape during that kind of move would be totally consistent with it’s current position in that frame.
I’m not sure if this is exactly what Scott had in mind, but it seems logical to me.
π
I’m digging Nastajia’s cape-age in the first panel π
It was supposed to be the effect of her turning to run.
But you’re right…it is a bit weird.
π
I’ll try to fix it before we go to print.
I want to take your class! Tell them to offer it online!!!
“can you destroy the earth?”
“I hope not, where would I put all my stuff!”
-The Tick
π
NOooooooo…….. Students suck the life out of you, like vampires. Run away before it is too late!!! π
Actually its not the students that will be bad, it will be the jealous instructors. The unreasonable administration and unhelpful staff personnel are pretty bad too. For goodness sake don’t flunk anybody, the school may not get paid if the student fails, because students have no money and their scholarships or financial aid may require them to pass the course to pay for it.
Other than that its just great!
(Well someone had to prepare you for the downside you may face.)
SPOON!
Well, I did tie a blanket around my neck when I was younger. XD
But I know capes can do weird things (I’ve done an art study on their movements using a friend as a model), but what Nastajia’s cape is doing defies basic cape physics, unless it’s made of heavy foil or something to that effect.
Just remember the verdict on capes in The Incredibles.
Yeah, but there are no jet engine intakes to get sucked into here …
π
Oh.
Well, I haven’t actually made a study of cape physics, so I’ll defer on this one then. (It seemed okay to me, but hey: you and Scott both said it looked weird! So it must be weird … )
π
Word, son.
Give it a few 10s of millions of years, and it will be all closed up.
