Happy December 1st all of you!
I want to thank all of you who came by yesterday to watch me Livestream the making of today’s page.

My buddy Kevin is going to be hosting his own TV show tomorrow night on the Discovery Channel!
Now this is Kevin’s first time hosting a tv show. So I would LOVE it if you would all please watch it, record it, tell your friends about it.
It’s just the pilot. So I know they’ll be looking at the numbers.
If you don’t recognize Kevin…he wrote, produced, and co-starred in the Underworld movies.
He’s also been in The Hulk, Planet of the Apes, Men in Black…and so much more.
But to my kids…he’s just “Uncle Kevin”. And we all want to see him have fun tracking monsters on TV.
So please set your DVRs or make time to turn that TV on at 10PM tomorrow. Right after Mythbusters.

Wow! I really like the effects you have given the characters. They are looking more lifelike every day. Any chance of a TV series or WebTV series one of these years?

Do you know the names of the song starting at 47:52(after the Jimmy John’s ad) and the song following it? No problem if you don’t, they’re just really nice songs and they kind of set the mood for the page. 😀
Um… did the site go dark? Any way. I just recently realized a connection between Dreamland and a book series I am reading. The book series is called the Wheel of Time Saga. In the third and fourth books of it there is a place called Telaran’rhiod, or the Dream World. It is only accessible to animals and people who dream them selves in to it. Sort of like a private Dreamland. Also in the third book of the series there is a sword called Callandor which is made of what looks like a glowing crystal that is floating just out of reach in the air unsupported. The sword is in the heart of the Stone of Tear, a fortress that wars smashing in to it, trying to break it down. If any one studies the Arthurian legends in there variety, one says that Arthur Pendragon draws the sword Excalibur from a stone that no man could pull it from. The one person who can touch the sword Callandor and actually use it right is Rand’alThor, the Dragon Reborn. A descendant of Lews Therin “Kinslayer” Telamon, the Dragon. In the series there is a power called the One True Source. Some one who can wield it can do various things, one example is flying unaided apparently. Another would be creating fire from nothing or holding some thing still or breaking some thing made from natural elements (metals, and other similar things). Alex had to learn to fly again, and how to do some of the other stuff that children did with out much thought. Rand’alThor has to learn to control his ability to wield both the One True Source and Callandor (the sword allows him to pull more of the One True Source in to his own purposes than he could normally with out it at the cost of almost being driven insane with the desire to give him self completely to it; Uncle Ben reference here). Between that and the fact that Callandor and Excalibur sound like the same sword in difficulty to obtain, I think either an unintended tribute is being done by either Dreamland or by The Wheel of Time Saga. If you could tell me if I am just seeing references where there aren’t meant to be references and why I would much appreciate it Scott.

Oh, and one last minor thing. All men who can wield the One True Power since Lews Therin Telamon have been driven insane by their use of it. Either by a “taint” on it (the great evil counter part to it is kind of splattered all over it), or by losing their own minds amidst the flow of Power in to their bodies that they either can not control, or do not want to control.
Silent mech: Its slightly similar only in that they are great story lines. You could say the same with Lord of the Rings matching Jordans work and C S Lewis matching this work. (or vis verse)
Robert Jordan tapped into many historical and contemporary themes for his book series. While the two share the concept of dream world. Jordan’s was chaotic and did not have a pretentious dragon nor Native American Centaurs and since this work is aimed at a younger audience I doubt that Alex will go insane (although a teen can sometimes seem insane). The sword in the stone (or suspended in mid air) concept is extremely old and not created by Jordan.
With the number of great stories being created by a great number of great writers now a days, its no wonder some themes tend to be along somewhat same paths. I would without hesitation say that this is an original work. If its not… it has enough differences to be an original work and I certainly don’t care to dispute it. I like it.
To answer your question from my point of view, had the author used other sources and since he is intending this to go into a movie, I would think he would have a bibliography (of references) to prevent potential lawsuits. But again, this work falls under original content even if you see someone else s work looking the same.
FREX I am a role playing gamer of many years. I ran an entire game based on Dream walking and then discovered Jordan’s work. Also I wrote an article on Battle-tech which appeared in the mag Battle-technology the same month Micheal Stackpole came out with his book ‘Natural Selection’ in which we discussed the same exact military company (The Shadow Legion), pure coincidence. Micheal and I had a interestingly fun conversation on that occurrence, It happens.

I can absolutely confirm, Alex is totally doing it the wrong way… well, one has to admit, there are situations where turning in the opposite direction avoids quite a lot of embarrasement (not to mention a black eye). But as we can guess from previous pages, Alex is most obviously NOT in one such situation!
I’d rather think His reaction comes from the “scare” comment. I don’t think he expected Nastajia to pull out something like that! First time we see him with a displeased expression when she kisses him. Man, relations sure can go complicated!
Also RJ’s WOT *intentionally* leans on our myths *and* present day situations, as you’ll learn when you read on…
The Wheel of Time assumes Time is circular and Ages come and go and come again. Our legends are a previous Age’s realities. And they’ll be the next Age’s myths, while our present day realities will be the next Age’s legends…
Or in RJ’s own words: “The Wheel of Time turns, and ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth comes again.”
SPOILER ALERT:
There are several “myths”, “stories” and “legends” in WoT that refer to our present day:
# John Glenn: “Tell us about Lenn,” Egwene called. “How he flew to the moon in the belly of an eagle made of fire. Tell about his daughter Salya walking among the stars.” (Eagle has landed…/Lenn may be a merger of LEM (lunar module) and Glenn)
# Salya: Sally Ride? Or Salyut, the space station [Douglas Cole].
# Moscow, ICBMs: Mosk the Giant, with his Lance of Fire that could reach around the world.
# America::Merk the other giant.
# Queen Elizabeth::Alsbet, queen of all. (Remains of British Empire/Commonwealth?)
# Mother Theresa: Materese the Healer, Mother of the Wondrous Ind
but you never know. maybe she’s pleased about that reaction. would mean she’s the boss in the relationship, if he’s that easily scared by her. 😉

N… For a moment, I thought you were talking about Nicodemus… You got me real scared for a second man. Nicodemus in pink… Hey, actually, maybe if the red color is his equivalent to a tan, and that if he stays out of the sun (like being trapped under Hilmdel) for weeks on end, maybe he’ll lose that tan a bit and will be a nice pinky shade! LOL!
Nah, seriously, it must be the lighting. I can hardly imagine Nastajia wearing pink like that. except maybe “I say maybe” in her hair, but that’s the limit of it.
The Wheel of Time is my favorite series, and the only series I have ever bought in hardback! And if you’re only on book 3 or 4, you still have a LOT of reading ahead of you. Which is a good thing! 😀
Some bad news for you, though, if you haven’t heard: the author, Robert Jordan, passed away in 2007. Fortunately, he already had the bulk of the writing done for the final book in the series, and his friends and family are working together to get it wrapped up and published. I just checked myself on this, and apparently book 12 has already been published (October 27th; I know what’s going on my Christmas list!), and books 13 and 14 are forthcoming.

Yeah, there are a few basic concept similarities between WoT and TDC, but that’s about it. Jordan’s Tel’aran’rhiod is essentially just a pale reflection of the waking world, not really an entirely separate realm (like Dreamland).
BTW, if you like WoT and gaming both, you might be interested to know that there is a D20 based gaming system for the WoT world. I don’t have the book handy right now, and I can’t recall most of the details, but I recall it was a decent system, and fun to play at least for serious Jordan fans …

WoT is one of my favorite fantasy series as well. I have the set thru to book 11 in hardcover, and thank you for the news concerning 13 and 14. Too bad about RJ, tho’, but at least we know that there is a finish to what seems to be an unending one. I’ll look for #12 later tonight…
Over at TWComics, we’ve floundered badly in the rankings. Last time that I checked TDChronicles was out of the top 10 at #12. Sorry, Scott, Tekky and I tried, but methinks that the month of December is already out of reach for TDC to be in the top ten. You still have the best of everything over here, no other comic even comes close. Storyline, artwork, delivery…nobody can match this comic.
Discovery Channel sells DVD’s of their shows/series online. See if it comes up on their list shortly after the program airs, and view without commercial breaks. I very rarely watch any Television now, that due to mishandling of Firefly by FOX. Nowadays they just seem to turn out more and more crap on the networks…
Damn it, I wish I wasn’t a full-time pledged SUCKER for small little cute kisses like this one.
