Page 1004…
Happy Monday all!
I hope you had a great weekend.
I just realized that as ofย THANKSGIVING (that’s this Thursday for you non-americans) we’ll be back in Dreamland.
Yay.
It’s going to be a busy week as we have family coming down from NY and Philly to stay with us. But I’d still like to try and get a Livestream or two going this week.
I’ll let you guys know on Twitter or Facebook.
Thanks for reading.
Scott
That just looks like one giant typo in the second panel to me.
It’s fun watching the way things have turned around here; now Dan and Nicole have both become so convinced of the reality of Dreamland (and isn’t that a mind-bending concept!), they’re giving Alex orders to get back there so he can get back to work.
Remembering how each of them were doubtful when first confronted by Alex’s nightly excursions, it’s quite a contrast. (To be fair, even Alex didn’t quite believe it at first – and it was happening to him!)
It will be interesting to see if they start acting like a support team for Alex on this side of sleep. Because Alex can still use all the help he can get – in both worlds.
Nice work Scott !
Someone is feeling down… And I don’t get why.
That last panel has some great body language. I think I’d be upset if my brother ganged up on me with some girl too. I feel bad for Alex! Dan and Nicole haven’t been very nice to him for the past couple of pages.
LOL
I would almost have expected an “awww, I don’t wanna” as an answer to the “go to sleep” statement… poor alex, especially since it seems as if it’s still kinda early in the day… ๐
I might just be forgetful, but when was the last time, alex went to his classes (hard to keep track of how fast time’s passing)? if they make him go to sleep whenever possible now, wouldn’t that mean that he misses out on them? not that he really needs a degree to become king of dreamland, but still…
and another question that might prove that I have memory problems: what does alex study anyway? ^^;
That’s ok, just smack him into a coma and he can stay in dreamland!
What could POSSIBLY go wrong with that! ๐
Whaddup with Alex..He seems a bit ” out of it” Or is he just realizing he’ll be “the future king” and has “Royal Worries” already??
If he’s having second thoughts about this “messenger” service he’s running for Dan and Nicole? Would be odd, since he already stated he didn’t mind. Oorrrrr..Is he pondering ways to get Dan&Nicole to the dreamworld????
Just throwing some wild guesses around…
Maybe he’s scared about what he’ll discover on those tablets. The dwarf tablets were pretty mind-blowing, especially Bognok’s intense loyalty to Nick and then learning that he’s an ancient usurper, so he was probably plotting to take over as soon as he became the king’s advisor..
Then again, it could be Dan and Nicole. I can see their growing relationship bothering him and they have been rather bossy to him the past few pages.
I agree, I think Alex might be a bit put out by how invovled Nicole and Dan have become in Dreamworld. Before it was him trying to convince everyone that Dreamland was real and now he’s got more input and nagging (lol!) than he can handle. ๐
Ooo! a Livestream would be a really nice break from my crazy-get-ready-for-the-holiday next few days. I hope I can catch it. ๐ And I promise to wait until you actually start Livestreaming, Scott, to comment on what’s going on. lol!!
other than doctors giving up on him after a few years, you mean? LOL
you know, when you say “nick”, it sounds like he’s just the average boy next door, not like he’s the big baddie of all dreamland. ๐
I like how you can almost hear the sigh in Alex’s voice. It makes sense that he’d be pretty reluctant now- he’s still coming to terms with the fact that Dreamland isn’t his own anymore. Sure, he’s always shared it with Dan (in a way) and with all the other kids, but he’s been going through a lot lately and now having Nicole order him to do something in Dreamland… it makes sense. ๐
Plus, his twin and “bossy” Nicole just teamed up on him. I’d be pretty put out too!
Any reason for Alex coming off like an @$$?
LOL Oh he does scare me; he’s like an old school Disney villian(ess), but it does feel good to “belittle” him.
Hey Scott! I was just wondering if there was going to be any development in the “real world.” It just seems as if the real world is kinda boring and a place for them to wait for Dreamland. BTW the fireworks on the page make me happy
aww bossing poor Alex around after giving him a double glare
I think there is some developement in the real world at least between Dan and Nicole. Or that could just be wishful thinking.
agreed!
Whoa, Nicole’s got a nerve, telling Alex what to do in HIS dreams! Can’t the poor guy have any privacy?
LOL! Like the fingers were on the wrong keys! XD
Please tell use what the village name means, It looks so interesting. Mini evil-eye in third panel :)!
Getting fussed at, and then told to go to bed… Seems like a case of regression to me. In any event, I still think the lighting in the past few pages is superb!
Looking forward to the return to Dreamland, as well.
Does he ever NEED a reason?
๐
Well I don’t know if the real world could EVER be as exciting as Dreamland. It’s just the nature of it.

Actually, I was kinda thinking before Dan jumped on him, Alex might have said “Look, it doesn’t have to make sense. Sometimes you just have to go with what you’re feeling and figure it out later.” At some level I think Alex gets that – but he comes off sounding like an @$$ because he’s not that articulate. He certainly got to what was really troubling Felicity.
Sometimes Alex doesn’t get the credit he deserves – but that’s not always a bug. If it means the people/dragons/whatever out to get him underestimate him, that can be an advantage.
That’s kind of it with Alex.
He’s not a jerk by any stretch of the imagination.
But he’s not the most articulate. And definitely not sensitive enough to notice when people need him to say the right thing.
So he comes off like a jerk.
It’s part of his immaturity.
Reminds me of Heinlein’s characters way to validate identity: one talked with a person about the Television series he claimed to have written, and concluded that he had to have written it, just by the way he knew it and his style of thinking about it. The personal connection–the best way to know someone is real. Even here…
Now just wait until Alex wakes up and he either mixes up what Felicity says, or forgets completely.
Or, when they can’t find any brain activity, pulling the plug?
OT: Is it just me or is the RSS-Feed broken? All I get is a blank page when I click on the link.
Nice reference! I just “read” (audiobook) that Heinlein story last year … what was the name of that!? … *searches desperately through Heinlein collection*
… “The Cat Who Walks Through Walls”.
(Darn OCD. That could have gotten ugly … )

Having grown up with twin sisters, with a front row seat to all the drama between them caused by various boyfriends (and later husbands), I can tell you that Alex’s reaction to the growing bond between Dan & Nicole is totally in character. Twins have a bond that we non-twins can never fully understand; and anyone who can be perceived as coming between them (even in the most irrational way) is going to cause some strong, and mostly involuntary, negative emotional reactions.
We haven’t seen the same reaction to Nastajia by Dan, simply because he can’t see her. So in the irrational, emotional part of his brain, her existence will never be as “real” to him as Nicole’s is to Alex. (At least not until and unless he gets to Dreamland, where I predict that he and Nastajia will be fairly cool to each other, at least at first.)
๐
Not bad for me either–I read that book probably 20-30 years ago.
Wait, what plug? They wouldn’t do that; they’d use him as a case study, and observe him until they couldn’t get any more information from his supposed corpse. THEN they’d bury him alive, thinking he’s dead. I suspect that, if he dies in Dreamland, since it’s his “soul” or spirit, he’d die in reality. But if he was in Dreamland when his body died in the real world, I’d suspect he’d find out something was wrong – very wrong – when he never “woke up” and suddenly found out he could get tired in Dreamland…
Hmm. It’s now what, three weeks since Alex learned to fly? Why hasn’t he been to see the tablets yet? I mean, for all the characters knew, Nicodemus could have returned at any time….
