Page 1002…
Hi all…
I wanted to let you know that my buddy Rob is making an XBOX LIVE game for the Dreamland Chronicles.
It’s a trivia game. And he needs YOUR help.
So pop on over to this post (it’s just below this one) and help out.
http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/2009/11/18/the-dreamland-chronicles-trivia-game/
Other than that. Hope you’re enjoying the story. And yes…Alex is still Alex.
Give him some time.
🙂
Scott
It’s ok, I hear the sarcasm in his voice, even if it isn’t intended.
ooooh Dreamland Game
^^ What Omegon said!
hehe! perfect avi for the ^^
BTW: I love what you did with the site for the big one thou’ 😀
This is the first I’ve seen the fireworks at night on the site, I say keep them up even if you take down the banner. I like the festive atmosphere. Or maybe they could come up just once or twice a week, cause I like the night sky look too. Yeah, I just want everything and right now too, lol.
I posted some questions for the game, can’t wait to see if they get used, that’d rock.
This page looks good, I like the dialog. Nicole seems like someone that doesn’t open up easily, hopefully she doesn’t beat Alex too badly for his sarcasm or for being thick, whichever one that was in the last panel. Actually, if it was sarcasm maybe he’s got it coming, heh.
Eww, Xbox live?
“When you’re down and troubled
and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Whatever you do, don’t call Alex”
Oh, Alex. You’re just not a shoulder to cry on, are you?
I popped over there to post a few questions for the game, even though I don’t have an Xbox of any variety and will probably never play the game. Still, it’s fun to come up with stuff like that … 😉
*sigh* Poor Alex. Sometimes, despite all he’s learned, he is his own worst enemy …
Sheesh…Quite the tactician our Alex… Ans that from the guy that felt he himself didn’t make any sense when he started visiting Dreamland again… expressing real empathy is still a bit beyond him. He means well, but is a total social klutz..
Remarks like that make me want hanging him above a ravine again like Orion did(Now THAT was therapeutic.. 😆
At least I hope its sarcasm… silly Alex. Nicole is really pouring out her heart and he’s too dense to understand it.
Alex “if dere was a PhD in bein’ fick, youse wouldn’t be able to find a pencil” (quote from Detritus the troll in “Thud”, by Terry Pratchett)
I mean, what a lack of tact! Scott, if Nicole skins him alive in the next page I won’t mind! This Alex is just so dense he’s a cognitive garganta!
Otherwise, great idea for the trivia game ( even though I can clearly see some imagining “what? why not a real RPG?”, but I suppose that’d be too much). however a question has occurred to me: Rob is making this game on Xbox Live, but is there a possibility adapting it for Wii Ware. arguments here are simple: Wii is a VERY old-tech console, which means it’s probably easier to program on it (likewise, I heard, programming on PS3 is hard as hell, so I suppose it’s all kinda proportionnal), plus, Wii is tailored for casual-gaming like this. You wouldn’t even have to do fancy Wiimote stuff, since it’s just a trivia game.
Furthermore, many more people have a Wii than an Xbox, if memory serves, so it could be an even bigger advertisement for The Dreamland Chronicles.
Wadjathink?
I love your web comic and I think it’s good that Nicole realized that she missed Felicity.
Whenever I leave a comment i’m a troll. It’s so annoying!
ditto! I saw the fireworks this morning I was all *happy claps* lol
LOL The avatar matches your comment XD
If you sign up on Gravatar, you’ll be able to get whatever avatar you’d like, from grandpa Pistacio to a chicken in a power dive, whatever you want. And it’ll be the same so long as you want it to.
Oh my…. Alex it’s amazing how totally dense you really are. lol!!!
Only because you’re kinda dim alex it makes sense to us. :p
I’m holding off until we hear Alex explain himself a bit. But yeah, not looking good.
Could Alex, in a moment of self-reflection, be thinking, “What does Dan see in her, she’s as crazy as I am.”
I think Alex’s personality (as seen in the last frame) is part of what makes him so likable. I can identify with him because, man, have I been there before when I was a kid.
Self-reflection? Naaah! this is Alex after all.
“Mommy, your picture is different!” And what happened to my avatar? It changed.
*smacks Alex* It’s obvious that losing Dreamland, even in a similar violent way as Nicole did, didn’t leave a permenent effect on him, but stil, even he should have seen that acknowledging and accepting Dreamland has made her a little more open and friendly, and gave his brother a girlfriend.
XBOX FTW! I *knew* I chose the right console! I hope we’ll get DLC for future chapters. 😀
Alex has a really short memory…or else he’s suppressing his own mixed feelings when he reconnected with Nastajia…
As long as you’re not a troll in the Internet sense…
Yeah, with Gravatar you can even load up several Avatars to choose from, (depending on how many email addresses you have…)
See, this is my other Avatar. All I did was change my email address!
Oops! I guess Gravatar no longer has that feature. Oh well, good thing I like my avatar, I guess…
‘sigh’ Just let Alex be Alex. LOL!
Gosh, the lighting on this page is AMAZING!
Heheh. Ah well…he’s been slowly getting better, but everyone slides now and then. Great page!
LOL. I love Alex’s response. He can be so dense.
I’m really confused by the last two panels. I’m not sure if Alex is sympathizing with Nicole (you are making sense) or disassociating with her (you are not making sense). I recommend changing Nicole’s line to: “God, is this making any sense?” I assume that Alex’s response would still be the same.
Alex, after the epic montage, you’re still as dense as LEAD! Oh well, we’ll give you time. I love the lighting as well and Nicole’s expression really grabbed me in the first panel, such emotion!
Either he is messing with her, or he is losing concepts of normal life in the real world because he is spending so much “time” (quotes present because of time dilation differences between Dreamland and Earth) asleep. Either way, it looks at first glance like he is all of a sudden becoming a hard ******** about emotions coming from Nicole. I am probably assuming a lot of stuff that will never be provable unless Scott tells us. My honest opinion is that Alex and Nicole are experiencing a “disconnect” because Alex has no way to really relate in a similar enough way to her that he can pretend even to understand what she is dealing with. I applaud him for being honest about her not making a lot of sense, but Alex needs just a little more tact before he can begin to really understand the human people in the real world around him that he will soon (possibly) have to live/deal with for a large part of his remaining life. Oh, and one last thing, its weird to see the page number over 1000 for me, any one else feel a little like Dreamland should be 10 years or older at this point? I don’t know why, but it just seems like this sort of incredible work needs 10 years if not more to do. Might just be me, and my expectations of truly incredible books, novels (>.> <.<… semi-bibles) and the like needing to often take immense amounts of time to do. I have been happily proved wrong by a lot of the recent short novel series written by young authors and older ones as well, even if I consider the three that I have read to time consuming as they are instead of in the form of one large long novel. Any way, I am done ranting now. Have a nice *insert time until next rant from me*.
I’m intrigued by Alex’s comment more than annoyed. Clearly he SHOULD understand what she’s talking about: Nicole is summing up his own experiences over the ENTIRETY of the STORY so far. So he could just be that dense, or simply not be making the connection.
Or alternately, though I really doubt this one, there could be more to Felicity as she relates to Nicole, and thus more to Dreamland, than we know. But this is the psychology/ conspiracy theory fan in me talking ( “What if all the Dreamland characters are to some degree embodiments of the human character’s consciousnesses!”). Still….it’s a heavy line from Nicole, and it’ll be interesting to see where it goes either way: I estimate it won’t take long to see some kind of understanding from Alex.
Aaand my avatar is now an angry pixie. Whoo for angry Kiwi!
I agree partially. I have Live, but I don’t use it. I suggest first doing it in flash and submit it to a site like http://www.newgrounds.com/ or http://www.miniclip.com/games/en/
I would love to see it on NG if it gets submitted. If it doesn’t then I might be a little disappointed. From what very very little I do know about the coding differences between C or C++ and other classic coding languages used in console game creation and Flash and Action Script coding present on sites like NG and other sites, it shouldn’t be that hard to port the same stuff from the flash format to the console format. If it is not so, then I have just shoved my foot down my throat based upon the work of Tom Fulp (creator/owner of NG), and Behemoth Studios (the game creation studio that Tom owns and runs with a few other people from NG, mostly artists, audio specialists, and I think 50+ programmers {do not quote me on that number, I could easily be horribly wrong}, they are known for Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid)
I think your insane. But other than that, your ideas for changing the console are valid from what I know. To the people who ask why not an RPG, I have one thing to say to you: WoW.
The majority of the more “core” fans would end up being eaten alive and spit out. I can say this with some honesty because I kind of got addicted to an RPG once. Thankfully I got over it and now avoid that game like the plague (until the holidays at least… curse my desire to be an assassin in an RPG where I can at least pretend to be awesome…). Other than that I would honestly hand Nicole the skinning knife if I could. Idiots of the world, fear my wrath!!
Actually, I don’t blame him to much. He has not yet lost Dreamland like she has. She remembered it after they found Nicole’s poem, and then she got to write to Felicity. Then all of a sudden, “Oh, you can’t be contacting her. She is a Dreamlander. Not a human in any sense of the word. You lose her again, now go cry to your mom!” (spoken in a fake, and probably horrible parody of a god’s {if there is one, I know there is a higher power, if its a god, then cool} voice). Alex has only had some thing similar happen once to him. Alex had no warning at all, just stopped “dreaming” of Dreamland and moved on with his life. Now he is going back all of a sudden and it shocks him how much changed but he has adapted and now enjoys the changes.
I think its meant to be a question of semantics for both of them. Alex probably is disassociating, if I am wrong then I am wrong. I personally think Nicole’s line should be “God! Is this making any sense at all?” But thats just me.
I seem to be misunderstanding some thing in your comment. When did Alex lose his ability to go to Dreamland a second time again? Any way, I am going to leave you with that little question and a small suggestion. Expect Alex to be denser than the Earth for a week.
Gah! I missed giving you congratulations on pg 1000! I’ve been busy moving in to my new home [that we own with no mortgage – gotta love a buyer’s market]. But I have to say how much I’ve loved and still love Dreamland – There is no end to how awesome I think you and this comic are. Congratulations and good luck on the next 1002 pages – I know I’m looking forward to them!
Scott,
I absolutely love your work. A belated congratulations on your 1000 pages. It’s been amazing following the story these past couple years. I still remember first reading this and Alex just got back to Dreamland. Anyhow, your comment on trivia for Chap 1 made me curious and I started rereading some of the old chapters. They are SUCH a delight to read! Especially strung together page after page.
I was also wondering, although you probably already thought of this already, will you ever make a video game out of Dreamland Chronicles? I’m not a big trivia person, but I was thinking, an RPG or action/adventure game would be so, SO cool. Plus, you’d already have the graphics done. 😀 If that was on the Xbox, I’d totally go for it (well, after I get the xbox next week… lol).
Amazing amazing work. LOVE IT.
I only own a Wii. Any chance this guy would be willing to create Downloadable Content for that system involving Dreamland Chronicles, also?
A couple of days ago, Gravatar changed their setup so that if you’re not a member, your avatar changes each time you post. If you want the same one every time, you gotta’ become a member.
Personally, I’m also having a hard time telling if Alex is simply being dense or if he’s being sarcastic, but I guess we’ll find out in a few hours!
According to a comment made in the section Scott linked to in the blogg where the questions are being suggested, it doesn’t sound likely due to Nintendo being fairly restrictive when it comes to publishing wiiware games. Maybe it’ll change in the future, but for now at least it doesn’t sound like it’d be any time soon at the very least.
Well even then, it would still generally give you the same one or two avatars. The other day though it got shuffled around somehow or another, so everyone’s avatars are a bit different now.
Dan should be picking up the pillow to throw at his brother’s head right…
…about….
…now…..
FWAPPPP!!!!!
I only own a Wii too 🙁
Well, he could make a Wii homebrew game… it’s fairly simple to “hack” your Wii, just use a simple hacked save file of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, walk backwards, and viola! Hacked console capable of playing homebrew games such as trivia!
Now, if only I could hack my Xbox 360 Elite replacement that Microsoft sent me after mine conked out just as easily…
That sounds like something I would say. Is this guy autistic or something?
