They’ve probably never seen a human over the age of 12 in elvish garb before.

So is he the Dreamland Viceroy now? Having the power to run Dreamland for his brother when he’s away?
The kings of dreamland are human adults.
I’d go with ‘King Emeritus’, but was he was officially king or just mistaken as king?

I believe they recognized him as the king, but there was no coronation to make it official, so he never held the actual title officially.
As for his title now? I would imagine that his noble title might already be “Prince” or maybe will be after marrying Nastajia. It apparently depends on the rules of the monarchy of the land. I suppose his official title is whatever Dan decides it is. Seems to me that Dan might be tempted to give a title like “Royal Dunderhead” or the like. Or at the very least, joke about it.
I may have just squealed in delight. ๐ He does indeed look resplendent.
Were they alive when the last human king (Arthur) was reigning? From my understanding Nic was in power for thousands of years.
As far as I can tell from the story, being King of Dreamland has nothing to do with being married to an Elfin princess. Dan will be King with his residence in Astoria and will be there whenever he is asleep (but only in his dream body). Alex will be married to Nastajia, living in Ashendel, and his title will be something like Prince Consort (like Prince Albert) or maybe something meaningless like Count of East Ashendel. Anyway, he’ll have a title.
Nastajia walks up to him with a romantic smile, takes his hands and the scene shifts to their feet as the elf princess stands on her toes suggesting that she kisses Alex?!?
Alex is technically a prince as he is the king’s brother. Depending on rules of the kingdom he could become the King of elves and Nastajia the Queen. Even if Alex had been the king she would have been the real power behind the throne so to speak. LoL
I suspect Dan was nervous because as King of Dreamland he will preside over his brother Alex’s wedding. I note that Alex’s cloak is long enough that he is likely to trip on it.

Arvamas uses both the fancy word ‘resplendent’ and the slang word ‘garb’ in the same sentence. Weird.

So they basically called him sexy in their traditional dress…in a fancy way.
Does anyone else think Arvamas and Dan are more ‘twin” looking than Dan and Alex?
Maybe it’s because I’ve become old and cynical (get off my lawn!), but I can’t help but think they’re poking fun at Alex. ;p
Seemed perfectly natural to me.
He might be saying in a bit of snooty way that “You clean up well.. for a human.” But it could also be that he’s being straight up honest. Maybe most humans *don’t* look all that good dressed up in Elven finery. I’m sure *I* wouldn’t look so great in that outfit at all LOL.
Garb comes from Old French or Italian. I would not consider it to be slang.
The problem with text is that it doesn’t convey the tone of voice being used. I could just as easily see the complements being delivered in a sarcastic manner. After all, all those pointy bits don’t necessarily look good without the pointy ears to go with them, though I think he looks good.
I needed to look in dictionary. Does ALEX knows it?
More like beautifully decorated. It’s more about what the person is wearing rather than the person themselves.
I just realized for the first time that Nastajia definitely got her mothers eyes. Her Father has some of the roundest eyes in the Elfin kingdom.
Me neither. In fact, I’d consider it just as formal as resplendent. Can you really imagine someone saying “Hey, bro! Dig the new garb!”
Based on the British monarchy, Alex is a Prince and currently first in line to the throne, until his brother dies. If his brother has a child, that child will become first in line to the throne and Alex moves to second.
Of course the rules of succession here may be different.
