Well, this explains how he is alive enough to talk to them, while having his energy drained, after being that close to death. That 100 years of life, though, won’t last very long when bringing this many kids back from “mostly dead”.
I’m still holding out hope that this gives Felicity enough time to get her with Excalibur’s Sheath to completely heal him. I still think that he owes Dreamland at least 1000 years of helping to establish human kings again.
that must have been really hard to fish out the tiny leaf from the tiny bag with those big ol’ dragon claws.
oh man, I’m so proud of Nic right now. Can you imagine how tempting it would have been for a proud strong creature like him, once he was healed by the SIA, to join the fight? Instead he kept his pride in check and used his new strength to sit it out and help the kids. That’s not a small thing!
slow clap, man, slow clap.
Tragic hero! Is how we dragons are. Yup yup.
Well, unless there’s cookies. Maybe he needs to survive because of cookies.
Someone give him a cookie. That’ll do it!
Yeah, Nic always claimed everything he did was for the good of Dreamland. That doesn’t excuse the things he did… but what he’s currently doing validates his claim. He just needed a wake-up call. Waking up the children might be exactly what he needed.
Oh wow! I go dark on the interwebs for a few days, and when I come back, Nic has done all of this?? I’m beyond impressed or surprised. I’m ecstatic and mind-blown! 😀
Aha, so old Nic wasn’t all that selfless as we might have believed. The question now is, is he being sincere, or is this just another ruse? Hoping for the former, but you never know…
I think he is still being selfless. I think he is saying that, with how close he was to death, he could not have revived them without using the leaf, but he is transferring all of the life he received from the leaf, and the little he still had, to the children. He fully believes this will kill him, he just wanted to give the kids as much life as possible.
Implied earlier is that the SIA only grants extended life, which is not the same as granting youth or health. Being unable to die when in pain from lethal injuries, that’s hell. That is what Nicodemus is experiencing. I see another plot twist coming.
That’s still being selfless, or at least self-sacrificing. In the shape he was in, mortally wounded, he couldn’t provide enough life energy to save the kids until he did something about himself he couldn’t help them. Just like when an airplane suffers a loss of air pressure, the advice is to make sure your mask is on before you help kids or others with you because you passing out means you can’t help them you have to make sure you’re conscious and taken care of first. He had to make sure he had life enough to save the kids.
Might be something inbetween. This is efficient, too – SIA might not “fill up the tank”, but will keep the engine running for 100 years, under normal circumstances. In abnormal circumstances like these? I don’t know, but if it’s to be transfered, attaching the effect to an oil tanker like Nic seems like a good idea – what would keep Nic running for 100 years, might keep him alive but immobile for the same amount while passing much of the effect unto many others.
called it 😀

Question now is, will Alex and gang have enough sympathy to use the sheath of Excalibur to revive Nic…..or will the big ol’ dragon be a tragic hero.
Curiouser and curiouser!
The plot thickens….!

The children keep getting better. Go, Nic!! <3 Aren't there any more leaves for him to be saved as well?

Well-intentioned extremist. Sometimes tropes work well.

I actually suspect that SIA will give you live energy which would normally extend your life but it wouldn’t work with mortal wound anyway.
How long before Nic slips back into his old habits???
