Page 973…
I am off to the Baltimore Comic Con!
I hope to see some of you there.
Have a great weekend…and sorry for the “cliffhanger”…ha ha.
Sorry…how often do you actually get to say that…and it is relevant?
🙂
Â
See you guys on Monday.
Scott
Bad pun! but great comment
*comic
As soon as I read the comic I rushed down to read your comments because I knew you were going to apologize for leaving us at a literal cliff hanger. 😛
wow, literally a cliff hanger
Not really. Alex isn’t hanging over the cliff any more. Now he’s a physics experiment.
I have a feeling that if Alex had given a different answer, he would not have been dropped.
I was expecting an answer describing why Alex is important to Dreamland.
BTW, as far as we know, there may be a shelf down 6 feet from the cliff edge.
Alex, I think this is the dumbest thing you ever said. Nastajia’s gonna kick your cute @$$ into the ground.
Ah! How can you leave it like that? On a weekend too!
JakesDad, maybe you’re right. Alex wouldn’t know that, but Orion would.
I think Orion was planning this all along, but in order for it to work, he needed Alex to think he was in real danger, which is why he didn’t do it when Alex first suggested it.
I knew this was coming. Doesn’t make it any easier to deal with the weekend though. And hey, is that period after the “A” (A. WISE MAN) in the first panel suppsoed to be there? Looks kinda out of place
This is EXACTLY how I predicted it on Wednesday!
Alex: *says in a whiny voice* But you said that pushing people over cliffs was barbaric!!!
Orion: I changed my mind. *Pushes*
Totally saw this coming from the first time “flying lessons” were mentioned, but glad it worked out this way. Because now, just as with Yoda, we get to see Orion’s wits once all is accomplished. As someone said with yesterday’s page, the minute Alex thinks about flying, he’s done. In this instance, since he needs to fly, he will simply will to happen without thinking on it, and it will be done. 🙂
It’s about time someone put the fear of death into Alex. Maybe now he’ll start taking things seriously.
Ah, who am I kidding? He wouldn’t be Alex if he did that!
Aaagh, such a bad pun. A pun my older sister would love and so I should really show her just this page to let her revel in its glory.
I usually never comment, mostly out of laziness, but now that I am, I will compliment you on your FANTASTIC comic. : )
Right now, Alex looks like a scared little kid in the first panel. For some reason it all makes me laugh demonically. (I have been reading Looking For Group WAY too much -_-” )
yknow. first time i had to comment.
That has to be the worst pun in exsistance 😛
Fab comic tho so you are excused ^^
GASP!!
eee…
what will happen to Alex?
YAY Orion! About time you threw Alex off the cliff. Sink or Swim buddy. Apparently,Alex is so dense, that’s the only way he’ll learn.
As a lover of bad puns, I must commend you, not only for acknowledging that it was a bad pun, but for making the “cliffhanger” pun in the first place, despite knowing that it was a bad pun.
Kudos.
On a more story-related note, if throwing Alex off a cliff was all it took to get Alex to learn to fly, knowledge of imminent danger notwithstanding, you would think he might have picked it up after jumping out of Nic’s treasure tower, so there definitely has to be more involved than “sink-or-swim”, or to use a more appropriate, yet equally alliterative phase, “fall-or-fly”.
Bad, bad extremely bad pun!!
we demand a Saturday comic for this insult on leaving us with a bad punned cliffhanger
please tell me it was like some reverse psychology stuff >.<
I am still hoping for a wile e. coyote moment where alex is flying but does not realize it yet… The realizes and falls the rest of the way.
Maybe he’s gonna get really mad at Orion and that will trigger his flying. Then he can have extra powers and stuff (lighting bolts shooting from hands kind of stuff)! Yay!
Also, I deeply sympathize with Orion. After dealing with Alex for just that long, I would have run out of patience too.
Orions plan may have something to do with message to Daniel.
Alex could probably use his sword to slide down the cliff, just like with tower in capital city.
On a FRIDAY too!
Curse you! :p
Sir, you are a bad, bad man.
huh up till now I had been grudgingly saying that he did kinda deserve what he was getting. This a bit too much maybe, but someow I have a feeling it will all work out.
Ah man.. just as the comic was getting really really good it’s going to end like this. =)
o.O
is all i can do
and throw my arms to the side and demand god for an explanation.
O.O!!
i caught up to you guys in 2 days actually less tan 6 hours XD
anyways wont alex do the same thing he did when falling of the castle if he couldnt fly???
hehe, and alex will discover, whilst falling, that he DOES like the earth, the stones, and that he just doesn’t want to “beat” on them from high above – and all in a sudden, just because of this, his desire to remain airborne will kick in and he’s gonna hover. Just coz of all his love for stone and earth and everthing beneath.
^^
Right. It had to seem like he was pushed over the edge or else it would have seemed too much like a test before. I think Orion obviously knows something that Alex doesn’t, though I don’t know what it could be, because he would have been just as scared to have had that happen to him even earlier.
Dagnabbit! I wanna know what happens next! And also… Excellent pun!
So.. he is going to fall (2 meters (i figured that because we never saw the way down :P)) and then land on his ass and realize what kind of stupid person he really is. Like Orions way of letting him know it is serious?
Far out XD
Nah, Orion’s set up the ground below to behave like the jump program in “The Matrix.” Alex will fall, the ground will go flexible and absorb the shock, bounce him up to two meters in height and let him fall onto hard ground with a non-lethal impact.
oh, the faith of youth… looks like alex has been stripped of at least some of his naivete right there. 😀
the slope in the last panel rather looks like he’s in for a hell of a slide instead of a fall. 😉
(wonder if his armor would like that… unless it’s magical enough not to get any scratches)
what a NICE place to stop for the weekend… >.> 😛
Wow… he actually let him fall! I wasn’t sure that he would actually do it. But…. wow. I wonder how Alex will be able get out of this one if he can’t learn to fly that instant! But I guess he deserved it.
Well, not to die, obviously. But to get tossed off a cliff for his cocky behaviour and learn to fly the hard way.
*gasp* language… (puts hand over mouth)
grrrr…
I’m surprised with the turn of events. It’s thrilling and exciting!! Alex needed a life-altering moment and now he has it.
Great comic, as always, Scott.
you’re evil…
just a little tip: use a capital P on the little smiley face so it comes out like this 😛
You are an evil, evil man. That being said, FINALLY SOME ONE SHOWS HIM HOW SERIOUS IT IS!! I could not have asked for a better start to my weekend than seeing a centaur throw some one off a cliff. My mind is probably pretty screwed up because of that, but hey, there’s just some thing bad ass about seeing a half horse, half human chuck some dumb ass off a cliff.
Or a metaphysics experiment! 😉
What a cliff hanger!!!! hahaha. But seriously–to leave us like this is kinda evil.
Yes, I thought that was one way it might happen. Of course, given what we’ve seen Alex do whenever he took things seriously, there IS one way this could backfire. I don’t think Alex realizes that he’s stronger, faster, and tougher in Dreamland — by a LONG shot — than he could POSSIBLY be in the real world. Which means that he could grab as he drops… and take the Wise Man with him.
Excellent pun, by the way. How long have you known that you’d have a literal cliffhanger for this Friday? Or did it just happen to work out that way?
Methinks Alex said the wrong thing.
LOVE THE CLIFFHANGER !!!!
That’s not evil, that’s hilarious! lol… and it’s also cartoon logic..
Think happy thoughts Alex! oh and Kiwi needs to sprinkle fairy dust on you too!
Oh wait…that’s Peter Pan… heh….
I believe that is a serif on the A. A “little dangle bit” as my 4 year old daughter like to call them. (My mother, her grandmother, does calligraphy.)
“…a fall from this height wouldn’t kill me anyway”
“I’m counting on it!!”
Beliefs make things real in some instances, maybe that would work for Alex…
Love the avatar that matches your reply!
It is a period. Gotta fix that.
I originally had it as “A…A…”
But decided against it.
I must have missed one.
Thank you.
YIKES!! is there a doctor in the house?!
Precisely.
Being thrown off a cliff is NOT the answer.
Wait until next week for the real key to flying.
For ALEX at least.
Just a hint. Orion tried the “normal” route. Alex didn’t get it.
SO he had to try a different one.
And it involves Nastajia.
In a way. See above.
Complete with poof of smoke in the distance as he hits the floor?
Or do I also add in a part where he realizes he’s falling…and holds up a little sign that says “Mommy?” before he plummets to his doom.
Not this time….just wait and see.
I love the jump program….ha ha
No one ever makes it the first time.
Just worked out that way.
Despite popular opinion. I really don’t plan out Friday cliffhangers.
The story is written months in advance.
Hmmm… lets see if anyone remembers alex flying before (not as a kid). He has if you remember… if you just remember when… *evil grin* Lets see if anyone get when he did…
i checked extra early today to see what happened to alex and I was like “holy cow” (i don’t actually say that its just the kid friendly version of what i was thinking.) great job again scott.
quick side note. his armour probably needs changing now.
I didn’t even see that. o.o
Yeah… you know. As horrible as it sounds, I just don’t believe you. I see you plotting out cliffhangers 3 months in advance using the Mayan calendar.
No point in doing that once he’s plunged into the ground already.
I have to admit. Alex I am very disappointed with you. “You’re a shamman, you’re supposed to be all patient and stuff? Really? that’s the best you can come up with? I would have dropped you too.
I know what you’re talking about! Kiwi had to hold onto him and fly. It was very slow and she had to make sure not to let go of him.
ZOMG!!!!! Orion threw him off.. he need to pick up on the flying like PRONTO!!!
I think it would have been the same for all answers… I think he’ll fly because he has too, I think he’ll just do it without realizing it.
Eeek!
Do you watch Between the Lions at all?
“Cliiiiiff hanger, hanging from a cliiiiiiiiiiiiff…..
… and that’s why he’s called Cliff Hanger!”
Can’t WAIT to see what happens! (Of course!)
Let’s be fair. Alex wasn’t exactly in a situation where anyone is likely to reach new heights of introspection
Goodness… looks like he’s going to HAVE to learn to fly now! Perhaps when he does, he’ll be a little less thick-headed?
I think the poof of smoke on the ground combined with the accordian look when he gets up to walk away would be best. The “Mommy” sign would be a nice touch. 🙂
(since he is going to walk away.. main character and all that :D)
I still like the comment from yesterday where he is going to go all ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ on us and get distracted at the last second and ”miss” the ground, ending up flying.
AACK! Spoliers!
Still… The Centaur now goes against everything I’d thought centaurs to be…
It seems every fantasy story has a different approach to them.
I have to admit, I’m surprised Orion actually threw him.
don’t worry dude, every thing works out in the end
THINK A HAPPY THOUGHT! NOW! HURRY!
I agree with the prediction that Alex will wake up before he hits the ground… as often happens in dreams (I actually always imagine that dying in your sleep would involve having the falling dream, but actually hitting the ground….), and that he’ll have to learn from people wiser than he how to control his dreams, and thus fly.
….and Alex is so surprised that Orion could do such a thing that he completely forgets the part about hitting the ground, and misses it completely.
(obligitory HHGttG ref)
Orion: Look around you, kid. Tent city? Paint and feathers? Animal-based thing on my head? I am a barbarian! And today I feel like one. *drop*
Alex: Because you’re patient?
Orion: You are.. the weakest link! Goodbye!
😀
Ah, now I know. The note from Orion to Dan said . . .
“Dan,
Your brothers just not working out. I’m going to drop him off a cliff and then send you the sword. Please accept my offer to become King of Dreamland as soon as I can get this blond goof within arms reach near a cliff. Please reply with your hat size and I’ll get that crown resized.
All my love,
Your Little Pony, Orion”
It all makes sense now.
Yep, I *know* there’s a shelf there. But what if there isn’t. Obviously he’s not mentally prepared for the “I KNOW I can fly x 100” thing…
So Cool! With the stakes so high, I can see why Orion’s patience wears thin.
Yep, I saw this coming! Yet, so many things can happen next, I hold back any predictions. Just have to wait and see…
Haha, oh man. I feel a bit silly that I was more entranced by Alex’s eyes in that first panel than any of the plot going on for a good few minutes. XD Those changes made to them a little while back are looking absolutely BEAUTIFUL in this lighting!
For once, it seems to be to Alex’s advantage that he’s a little bit of an airhead. I know a lot of people would start thinking, “PLEASE LET ME FLY,” the whole way down, which… doesn’t seem to be the right way to go about it, if previous attempts have shown anything. Somehow, I have a feeling it’ll be Dan who fills his thoughts instead, effectively allowing the flying thing to stay back in the subconscious and work its magic.
This scene reminds me of New Warriors #1 (1990) Where Night Thrasher Drops a then powerless Richard Rider of the top of an Apartment Complex to see if the shock will reactivate his powers as Nova.
I think Alex will be rescued by his friends. They can fly, so they’ll come up and grab him and take him to safety or something… Not completely sure though.
Nope, I agree. The comic is totally over now. 😉
Am I the only person hoping he craters into the canyon floor? Alex is one of the most annoying protagonists I’ve chanced upon lately.
Yeah, maybe it’ll be like training wheels — Kiwi will secretly hold him up, then Alex will go “ZOMG I really CAN fly!” … and as a result, he can?
Orion is 100% right here. Alex is their last best hope and he’s been walking around with his head in a pillowcase.
Even if you ignore his blatant disrespect to the chief of the drive that’s currently sheltering them, his overall numbskullishness transcends the believable. His magic equipment has saved his butt at least four times in head to head confrontations with Nicodemus and HE HASN’T EVEN BOTHERED TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW IT WORKS. Or even stopped to think HOW he kept surviving these encounters.
That’s Darwinian level of stupidity right there folks. When the deux ex machina saves your hide, the very next thing you’re suppised to do after you catch your breath is ask “what on earth was that and how do I do it again the next time I need it?”
Alex has not done this. For that alone he deserves a long drop and a quick stop IMHO.
lol yes, looking for group does sway the perceptions a little bit…
He’s giving him the “Jiraiya treatment.” Where Jiraiya drops Naruto off the cliff so he has to summon Gamabunta or he’ll die, and that brings out the necessary determination to summon him. Not that that’s the first time that technique has been used in fiction. It’s been used tons of times, that’s just the one that comes to mind for me.
Of course, this may also just be his way of making sure Alex takes him seriously, and that he knows Alex will survive because of his armor or because of someone hidden that catches him at the last moment.
Oh, and I love the pun. But actually, you’d be surprised how often that pun can be used when it comes to comics and webcomics.
I don’t really comment all that often. love the story so far.
oh. what if it’s like the indiana jones step of faith thing? where there’s a section painted to look like it goes on forever but it’s just a short drop?
O_O Yay! Cute…er…bum kicking! (Happy?)
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=throw%20yourself%20at%20the%20ground%20and%20miss
You are not alone in your madness. I am LOVING this, and for once, I am not peeved that Friday ended on a cliffhanger. Instead, I see it as a tribute to all past and future Friday cliffhangers.
I believe you when you say you don’t plan on them but I know you enjoy our pain and agony, if only because it garuntees us coming back on Monday for the conclusion.
Nah… I’m sure Orion has telekenesis or something…
I was under the impression that symbols made it okay.
Benneducci: i know you probably didn’t mean it like that, but equating native american themed anything with barbarism is something we’ve been fighting against since colonization.
Great comic Scott. And I loved your pun in the notes! 🙂
I’ll check back next week when times permits, see what becomes of Alex. SCSava *might* kill off one of the stars, so I’ll wait and see. Still, Alex is wearing the suit which prevents mortal harm to come to him, and Alex has flown prior as a child, so there is experience – if he can just recall it. Also, as he did the last time, Alex could wake up on the way down, and then have the next day in real life to figure out what he has to do…with the help of Dan and Nicole.
BTW, if you’re loving the story, go vote for Scott at http://topwebcomics.com. The Dreamland Chronicles has dropped out of the top 20 web comics and needs your votes, once per day, every day! You’ll find TDC at #21 right now, and that is the lowest that I’ve seen it at, ever!
BTW I’m kinda holding out hope that this isn’t just a cheap gimmick. Beyond the fact that that would turn Orion from badass sensei to manipulative bastard, it would just encourage Alex to continue not taking things seriously.
If he’s going to learn anything this time there is going to need to be no bailouts at all. Alex has got to be solving the problem himself with nothing more than maybe a bit of emotional support.
Holy Conan! You totally did it! After making us sure you wouldn’t do it! Ha! Orion is the Bestest!!
… Doesn’t he have to be ‘hanging’ for it to be a cliffhanger? Oh,wait. He is… in thin air. Heh.
I saw this happening about a month ago. LOL
No offense, but if i were the author i’d tell you that doesn’t suit the character of Orion at all and I think uit would be really disrespectful to the spirit of the “badass sensei” nature of Orion to make him go through with it for the sake of a plot device.
Orion is more the sort that would decide that they’d survived Nicodemus so far, and if the disrespectful human can’t survive a bit of rough treatment without someone to hold his hand, there are plenty more where that one came from and another few hundred years before the next king came along might even be better than winding up with a king who was an idiot.
From wiki on barbarism:
“the term may also be used pejoratively to describe another society or civilization which is deemed inferior in some way”
Europien society was ahead of the native american civilization/society in math/science/urban development, the list could go on and on.
Also, unlike some native americans, no Europiens sacrificed human life to gods.
Please inform me in what way the native american civilization was not inferior to Europe during colonization?
Alex: “Three feet–so far, so good.”
It’s not the fall that hurts; it’s the sudden stop at the end…
I think a lot of us did. The sober, philosopher king who takes the long view trying to deal with Mr. Short Attention Span of Instant Gratification Land? And the backdrop of the event was an arid clifftop? Yeah he’s going over.
You’re cruel, Scott…. VERY CRUEL TT___TT
Now I have to wait for Monday!!
Or he really doesn’t care that much if Alex lives or dies. Remember, while the prophesies are there and they are real, nothing we’ve seen so far says that Alex is the only one who can fulfil them. I wouldn’t be too surprised if in Orion’s mind, Alex’s chronic inability to deal with things seriously has already put him in the “failed instrument of prophecy” category, which makes his possession of the king’s sword and armor positively dangerous (nothing worse than a Messianic prophecy like this one that goes juuuuuuust slightly wrong and leaves you with a heavily flawed uber-ruler for life!!!!!)
Bad Alex. You’ve made the centaur mad.
No pollution, living in harmony with nature, taking only what was needed, very few actual battles/crimes compared with the so-called “civilized” world.
I guess it depends on your view of “inferior”.
Excellent! I hope the armour and sword are not too badly damaged and it is not too messy scrubbing Alex out of the armour.
Maybe that’s Dan’s special power in Dreamland. He and Daniel were discussing how weird it is that Alex doesn’t seem to have one, but he did throw off those 20-odd pirates with a mighty shrug (kind of like Neo in the Big Brawl). I’d say that’s a special power!
I’m pretty sure that Alex will learn to fly — even if it’s just ’cause he’s ticked-off enough to want to get back up and give Orion a piece of his mind! (And be careful with that, Alex…you don’t have much up there to spare! 😉 )
But however it works out…that armor’s gonna need to be hosed out….
Me too. That’s one of the reasons why I didn’t want it to be a “drop you off a cliff for an instant power up.”
Orion threw him off.. THE CLIFFS OF INSANITY!!!!! 😛
Alex if you forget to fly, don’t forget to wake up before you hit the ground, it’s an auto-preservation technique.Oh well, Scott threw him offacliff… Still, I guess I should of see that coming. I still wanted to see a different way of teching him but since Scott said “Orion tried the ‘normal’ route. Alex didn’t get it.
SO he had to try a different one.” I’m satisfied. (I hope I’m not misquoting you in your thought Scott.) Everyone knows of a cliff hanger, I guess this is the first “cliff faller”.
I hate waiting…
(Two “The Princess Bride” quotes w00t!!! 😀 )
I’ve been reading deadpool… and I ask… can you have alex or another character break the 4th wall? (if you know what I mean.)
I just love when characters do that
I don’t think this is the right comic for that. I think the closest you’ll get to that is the cross-referencing between Earth and Dreamland, or Alex’s lame attempts to be genre savvy..
ya gotta love douglas adams.
missing (and therefore flying) = kinda hard
not missing = extremely easy. ask my knees. they…aren’t the biggest fans of my flying experiments.
I’ve been waiting for years for someone to do that to Alex. For exactly that reason. For all that he talks a good game to his brother, I think he more than half believes the whole world is just his private playground.
“…no Europiens sacrificed human life to gods.”
*cough* Burn the witch! *cough*
*insert in cartooney whistle noise* (like from Looney Tunes)
Sadly, you providing spoilers is like when a TV show does a “To be continued” episode and then I get to see clips from next week’s episode. “Stay tuned for scenes from next week’s episode of ‘The Dreamland Chronicles’!”
“AAAAAAAAAAH!”
cut away to a scene with Staj and Orion talking
Staj- “Orion! What have you done to him?!”
Orion- “Trust me, it will be for the better when it’s over.” Fade to black, play theme music and roll credits
😉
ROFLOL (no, really, I am)
Nice Batman Begins reference!
Seeing your avatar (it looks like a monkey bird), I can’t help but ask- is your username a reference to Alimar from The Pirates of Dark Water?
Got to say love your comic. My thought on the whole scare him to fly theory, kids lose their powers when scared. That is how the pirates can catch them… I don’t see how fear will make Alex fly. I am betting it is just a step and this is just being used to scare him straight. I do agree that Orion had this all planned though.
Wow, you’re gone for a week cause your computer gets a virus you can’t clean so you have to format and what do you miss? Orion throwing Alex off a cliff! Way to welcome me back XD I finally managed to find this site again and was like “What the ****?!” So I had to stop and read the whole weeks worth of comics, and now I’m like “Oh **** this is bad” lol
The feather’s back…
a little bit predictable..
I’m sure there will bea twist right about now….. with the weekend to make us impatient while we wait
Silverwolf, I read Elf Quest too.
Eh hehehehehe. I love that!
Wow. Orion really snapped and threw Alex off a cliff to his death. Either that or he’s doing something really smart because he’s a smart person.
I was not really expecting this. I can’t wait to see what happens.
@ “guest”: i’m assuming you’re speaking of mezzo-american cultures and not north american ones? north american tribes aren’t known for human sacrificing. i can safely say that my tribe has never in our history ever sacrificed a human being for any reason.you’re making it sound like europeans were the most enlightened people on the planet. europe was the backwater of the world until the black plauge forced their expansion.
this wasn’t a conversation about whose civilization was superior. you made it into that. i’m simply stating that we are not and were not “barbarians” just because we didn’t adhere to western societies standards of what civilized people were. until colonization we were an entirely self-sufficient peoples who never fought wars over religion (i dare you to find any native american tribe who ever fought their neighbors because of a difference in spiritual beliefs) and were able to survive and be perfectly happy with not taking more than what we needed.
i don’t understand how molding the earth to suit a peoples needs is considered “civilized” and it’s rather myopic of you to bring in the inferior/superior aspect when i never once said that i thought my culture was superior.
and at any rate, did you think that europeans always existed as house dwelling christians? come on, ignorant though you may make yourself seem, you must know something about history. all peoples on the earth started from indigenous roots whether that be native american or celtic or any number of other cultures.
i’m not saying we were never violent, that’s also a stereotype, but i am denying that we were/are barbarians and it pains me to see us portrayed as such. we’re more than stereotypes and it’s sad that you can’t seem to see past that and feel the urge to press your ill-informed ideals and start an argument about something that was not even in the discussion.
Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust… Or, failing that, you could just use a Game Genie code to be able to use the L button to levitate… [I keep on thinking of Link for some reason whenever I look at Alex in the more recent comics… I have no idea why… It might be the positioning of the sword on his back…]
Or, failing that… You could piss off a fellow humanish-creature-turned-into-a-monster and it will slap a mask on your face which conveniently allows you to glide across areas at precisely the exact distance you need to travel in the air… [Majora’s Mask was awesome if a bit surreal.]
More like a cliff-faller.
i just cant wait to see 🙂
air look at page 861
You Rock Naya! I am not Native American in roots, matter of fact I am all European in backround, but I have great appreciation for many cultures and am big on Social Justice. You tell em’.
If you think he is annoying you will have to settle for a mood change because Alex dieing? not likely.
That’s awesome! 😉 Hee hee hee…
That is an extremely closed and ethnocentric question.
Question- what defines civilization and being civilized? The answer to this question changes as you go from culture to culture and social class to social class within a culture. But, the unified definition of what makes a civilization- at least in the Western mindset- is the ability to read and write. You read Columbus, De Vaca, Harriot, and Smith and they all say the same thing- the people were considered uncivilized and ignorant because they did not know how to read or write their own language. This is, however, an ethnocentric view of what makes a civilization. As I said, this definition is based on having a Western mindset. The Native Americans had culture, they had forms of communication, and- as far as I’m concerned- are the reason that the European colonists ever made it through their first winter in the Americas (hence, the tradition of Thanksgiving- it was a time in which the Separatist colony took time to thank God for his provision of both food and friends- namely the Native Americans who helped them). We would not be living in this country today were it not for the help of the Native Americans- not only in survival and crop raising- but, for their help in the wars that followed in this country’s history. So, were it not for their civilized ways, you and I wouldn’t be here to have this debate.
Okay, that proves it; Orion is the dream-self of Ganondorf! D8
Woah, I didn’t even see your post when I replied! I guess great mind’s must think alike, eh?

I would just like to point out – without saying that native americans were barbaric or not – that saying they had no crime is actually an argument that they WERE uncivilized and – by the definition above – barbaric. Crime only exists in civilization and it ALWAYS exists in civilization. You can’t very well break the law when there is no law and if there is a law, SOMEONE is going to think it doesn’t apply to them. That’s just how humans and civilization work. However, I know that native americans did have rules and a judgement system for them – otherwise, what would be the point of a chief?
Sorry, that one little statement just bothered me and I had to comment… 🙂
What a great, dramatic week! Can’t wait for next week. I really like Orion’s character development here, atypical for the Wise Man archetype.
To paraphrase Douglas Adams– It’s time for Alexander to throw himself at the ground and miss! Nice suspenseful way to end the strip today. I guess Orion is a big believer in “Learn by doing.”
Didn’t we learn some time ago (i think when he fell off the flying pirate ship) that his armor protects him from falling damage too?
Oooh, never make a centaur angry. This will enlighten you! *nods* Bet he wishes his armor could be like “Iron Man”. Hah, I can totally see a warforged as a “Iron Man”. Totally! Off subject I know, but totally awesome!
Alright, I think the replies on this one have been going on for a while. So I thought I would put in my two cents on it. The only noted time that the Europeans messed up (insert what ever appropriate phrase you want from the anglo-saxon language as desired (they made a lot of swear words)) with the witch burning was Joan of Arc. Every other time the witch burned to death before getting a prayer out or it was not noted. The only culture of the Americas in general that I know of having made sacrifices at all would be either the Incans or the Mayans. Both cultures were destroyed by the Spanish Conquistadors (if I messed up the spelling, I take full blame for not doing research for this comment) or the diseases that came over that the Europeans had developed immunity to (smallpox any one?). Now on to why I am pointing out and bashing/defending both sides of the debate is because I am half native (north) american, and half irish. My ancestors are known for getting super drunk or for having a strong connection to the natural world and great respect for it; depending on which part of my family tree you go down. With that being said, GIVE IT A REST WITH THE UNRELATED DEBATE!!
Nah, I think she means even earlier in the comic. Like the first few pages of the comic properly (not the making of pages, though those are a nice touch).
Then why was he worried about falling 500 feet from Nicodemus tower? I think it is a good idea, but for a few feet of a drop the normal body is perfectly fine with just a little recoil, aka bounce after about 10 feet will make you feel a little better, but your still going to be in some pain. Besides, I think the most protection the armor is going to give him is good for maybe a 30 foot drop. Also, the pirate captain picked up Alex’s cousin once and held him up with out getting off the ship in the fairy village. I figure the ship doesn’t have enough of a keel (bottom part of ship, basically, gives the ship its shape) to count as a really long drop.
You are an evil thinking guy. It probably does say exactly that. But i wonder how they would know… well, when Alex was dead. After all, he does become a vegetable when he goes to sleep. If he doesn’t wake up from the fall this time then they probably won’t know unless there is another way to send messages between the worlds other than another blessed ancient baggy and another dreamland visitor who just happens to be near by to the college and knows Dan goes there, and can get to Dan with the message. To many possible problems for reliability.
My prediction… 😉
Works as well :p
It must have been when he leapt from the roof to take a swing at Nicodemus’ arm as he clenched Nastajia. I suppose it was a farther leap than humanly possible.
Alex is an idiot with very little imagination. He has no idea what he’s capable, and wouldn’t believe you if you told him.
Nice editing! Also, very funny!
Hey, Scott,
To quote a certain Scottish Engineer:
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
🙂
If I were Dan, my response note would be:
Orion,
“All my love”???? ‘Your little pony’????? Dude, you’ve got me wrong! I’m working on a relationship here in the waking world, and I’ve got my hands full!
Seriously, dude, you are creeping me out!!!!
Your note is pretty similar to the one I guessed at, except that mine is even more creepy!

Previously… On Dreamland Chronicles…
You know, I could actually see this working as a TV show.
Scott, you should look into that!
“Madness? This. Is. Dreamland!”
*boot*
but maybe new depths? XD
Well obviously. He’s the main character. Its possible to like a story without feeling empathy for the main character.

Still exists.

DANG did he need a wake up call. I hope it works.
Hmm… for some reason, that reminds me of a specific Bionicle movie… hmm…

Not so much a cliff hanger as a cliff faller.
