Happy Friday all!
Question:

Or is it readable?
Well…as I can understand, Merlin work magic and somehow managed to magically expand the water where his old (obviously!) love is.
So the water “expands” and the 2 oldlovers meet again.
Is this correct?
Good to see that Merlin has his priorities in order.
(And yeah, I pretty much got it.. he used the portal energy to make his own targeted portal)
He pulled magic from the portal to pull his love through the water.
I think readers (especially long-time) can get it without the extra narration.
… however… so much for Niviene going on at Alex about ‘duty’. At least he didn’t ever abandon someone he was supposed to be looking after!
To be fair, it wasn’t her actions that caused this. Hopefully, she’ll soon realize that Dan is now unprotected.
No narration needed!
Wonder if Nicole can dive through the new portal. Bring a lamp!
This.
I understood what’s going on. No narration needed. 🙂 Did your boys get it without explanation? I mean, I don’t know the ages of the people commenting on your comic, but we might all be adults who have no trouble inferring things. Kiddos may or may not get it on their own. I don’t know (never had a kiddo, so not exactly how quickly they pick things up).
Whoa. I called it. O_o
Aw, that’s sweet. Especially her expression.
No narration necessary.
Anyone who has looked at the last few pages should understand what is happening.
Now that Nicole has seen what Merlin was up to, she needs to nudge them towards helping her man, unless she is now overwhelmed by the supernatural events going on around her.
However she has accepted the existence of a mermaid, fought nightmare beasts, hung out with the king and queen of the Elves, gone through a couple of portals, and met Merlin, she should be okay with that.
Yeah, she didn’t have a choice in the matter.
Her expression is so sweet!
Did we ever discuss why Merlin’s tree is in North America?
Merlin’s tree is in France.
What will they do next is MY question.
It is not clear to me the exact mechanism (why is Merlin sticking his hand into a portal resulting in Niviene popping out of the unrelated body of water as opposed to popping out of/being pulled through the portal?), but it’s magic, there are lots I don’t understand, so meh. I understand well enough that Merlin is using his magic to reach Niviene, I think that’s good enough. Too much narration might ruin the moment, making the moment too technical and logical, which would bring other questions about why Nicole hasn’t questioned him yet on whether or not bringing Niviene here is really the priority here.
Although, part of our ability to understand might be because we already guessed that what Merlin most want is to see Niviene. Would kids get that?
They took a portal to get there; they’re now in the forest of Brocéliande, Brittany, France.
It’d be funny if Merlin shuts down the portals and then Nicole has got to find her way back home from the wilderness of a foreign country. Not funny for Nicole, though. The nearest airport doesn’t host transatlantic flights.
I could follow it. He being made of magic, and she being a magical being, could feel each-others existence outside of the dreaming. So he created a portal for her to come to him. I hope he doesn’t turn out like one of those jerks and saps her remaining magic killing her to ” save the world ” from the dimension door web that has been put in place. She may have only had a bit part in this comic but her love for him is the only thing that kept her going, and that in it’s self is good character development. besides you can see in her face on both pages how utterly thrilled she is that he is there.
The world is undersiege! I have the power to protect it! I’ll use that power to see my girlfriend!
….
I just realized Alex and Merlin have a lot in common.
In the end, though, the protagonist, Alex and maybe also Daniel, have to be the one(s) to bring things to a resolution. To stand back while the wizard does it all would be less than satisfying.
Gandalf didn’t teleport to Mt. Doom and drop in the ring. In the end, it was the protagonist, Frodo, who did the task.
Gandalf was afraid even to TOUCH the ring, probably can’t teleport at all considering all that rides he did on horse, and I’m pretty sure if Gandalf ever set foot in Mordor Sauron would immediately know. In fact, they took an army to gate to create distraction to make Sauron miss FRODO.
They MIGHT’ve use eagles to make the trip shorter, but again, eagle flying over the mountains into Mordor wouldn’t escape attention, so the last part was better to go by foot. Hmmm … in fact, eagles flying over Misty Mountains would certainly catch attention of Saruman, if not Sauron, so even that might’ve been risky.
Note: And this is how you recognize good author: even decisions which are OBVIOUSLY caused by narrative needs can be explained in-universe.
Now, if only she can put all this into a publishable paper regarding her field of study. =)
She also probably didn’t bring a passport with her.
Huh. I thought Niviene’s pool was near Alex and Dan’s house.
