Pedant note: those appear to be cannonballs (given the fact that he’s hitting them like baseballs and they’re not breaking apart on impact) yet they are exploding around the ship like shells. It’s a little confusing.
Not all cannonballs were solid chunks of spherical iron. Some have gunpowder loaded inside them to break apart into shrapnel. I think there’s also specialized ones for breaking a mast, and various other niche-use ones, just like in modern projectiles. So I’m just assuming they’re using miked ammunition with both solid and explosive cannonballs here.
Based on them exploding AROUND the ship (without hitting anything), they have fuse – I mean the classical fuse, the flamable string – and only explode when the fuse times out.
I’m aware of the wide range covered by the words “cannonball” and “shell.” It just feels kind of lucky that he managed to bat away the one item that wasn’t an exploding item…
Also, @hkmaly even if they have fuses, they should still break apart if they’re hit with that much force.
Yeah, tempting fate never worked out for anyone.
I usually save that particular question for about halfway through any class at the gym.
Bognok(or whatever his name is)must learn it’s not really a good idea to ask those kinds of questions…!
Be careful what you wish for.
Better still, don’t say anything in battle unless it increases your chance of winning.
And a new sport is born, Cannonball.

I think Scott is going soft on us…
Previously, the last panel would’ve been the First panel on Monday. The last panel would’ve been Bognok plummeting off the ship to “certain” death.
Meanwhile… Poor Alex! So many mortally wounded heroines. So little time.
