3,000 years is an interesting number to know. That makes Gilgamesh less likely given he would have been between 4,500-5,000 years old by now. Saul, David, and Solomon of Israel would all roughly fit that timeline. Nebuchadnezzar could also fit within a rough “3,000 years” estimate.
3000 years may be an approximation, but if exact, would be in the year 985 BC (year zero does not exist). Dates are of course highly uncertain, but Saul was probably older. Both David and Solomon are possible candidates, I would also add Zoroaster and Homer.
Is the dreamer trapped in an eternal nightmare? Is he inadvertently creating this evil? Rather than a Human being the cause of all this evil, seems it would make more sense for them to be manipulating him, much like Nick was being used.
Hey there,
My first comment, glad to see dreamland back.
I have an issue with this page. How can he be alive and the first king? If i recall correctly, there can be only one king at a time (that is the main raison to this “no king since arthur” except the twins). So how can he be the first king, be alive, and with a lot of kings since 3000 years???
Good point. It’ll be interesting to see the answer, but I like theorizing, so I’m going to speculate.
It might be that two adult humans ARE allowed in Dreamland and no one ever realized that because no one knew the rule is actually that THREE adult humans aren’t allowed in Dreamland, the Dreamer being a complete unknown to everyone except these dudes.
Whatever these dudes did to make the dreamer immortal may have also made him inhuman, so the kingship moved on.
He isn’t really in Dreamland or on earth; he’s in some kind of portal in a third world that’s visible from Dreamland.
He doesn’t have the sword of kings, which is the basis of the current form of kingship. His kingship is from something older that doesn’t follow the rules of the sword. Maybe the sword of kings was created to deal with the power vacuum that followed this guy’s, hmm… “abdication.”
Of course, I’ll bet it’s none of these. Chances are, the author thought of something better and cooler, but I like trying to guess ahead.
The kind he hoped for came equipped with a bitchin’ camaro and less tubes grafted into his flesh. Which really is the basic criteria for an immortality one hopes for.
You know the big story about the Trojan horse and Ulysse’s long journey back home after the war? The one with the cyclop, mermaids, journey through hell and all the stuff? That’s the Homer’s Odyssey.
Come to think of it, a lot of this fits with dreamland. The dreamer might be Homer, or even Ulysse. (Yeah, he’s a finctional character, but this is a fictional story after all.)
IIRC, Ramses II was a King of Dreamland, and he built the Seraphopolis portal. Ramses II was born in 1303 BC, so he should be 3319 years old by now. Supposing he was the first King of Dreamland, “alive for 3000 years” could be an approximation, but a really rough one.
Homer’s stuff may be fictional, but it was based on real people, places, and events.
Anyway, “First King” in an earthly sense would be Gilgamesh or Nimrod, but the dates don’t fit at all (unless Dreamland time is different from Earth time).
I like all the different theories here. One I haven’t yet seen considered is this:
How well does Abbadon keep track of time? Time moves differently in Dreamland than in waking life, but even with that aside, Abbadon might just be saying 3000 years to mean a really long time. Which could make the Dreamer just about anyone.
Or it could just be that Dreamland time is different than real world time. Remember that King Arthur in this story was not the King Arthur of the real world around 450 or 500 AD but more akin to the legends of King Arthur in the medieval age around 1200 AD or so. It could be that our intrepid writer is using dates and times from sources that we do not know…;)
If they are keeping him alive, why is his hair so short and his head partially shaved? Did he look like that when they put him in the tank? If so he was really old.
It is Gilgamesh. He is still looking for the Sibu Issahir Amelu after he it was stolen from him whilst he was bathing in a pool. Not only that but 5000 years ago would be around when the first civilisations would have existed.
Because although they know they can’t kill Dan, they think the Dreamer might? And so it doesn’t matter what they say, he’s not going to live to tell anyone else.
It is Gilgamesh, not Solomon. Remember that Abaddon said to Niviene that the Dreamer is looking for the Sibu Issahir Amelu which is mentioned in the Saga of Gilgamesh as a plant that gives immortality. Gilgamesh had the plant stolen from him by a serpent whilst he was bathing in a pool of water and I can only guess he wants it back.
Also you will note that they have been keeping him alive for 5000 years not 3000 years which puts the date when he would have been king to roughly when the first civilisations were believed to have existed.
If this really is Gilgamesh, then only half. According to real life mythology, Gilgamesh was born to a mortal man and a goddess. Which has some interesting implications if that is the case here too.
I would add the theory that The Dreamer traveled to Dreamland physically somehow, thereby circumventing the single king rule. This could be what gives Dan the idea (finally) of getting Alex to Dreamland physically.
According to Wikipedia, “Gilgamesh is generally seen by scholars as a historical figure, since inscriptions have been found which confirm the existence of other figures associated with him in the epic. If Gilgamesh existed, he probably was a king who reigned sometime between 2800 and 2500 BC.” The story of Sibu Issahir Amelu occurs in Tablets 11 & 12, pretty much as stated above with a snake eating the plant while Gilgamesh was in a pool.
5,000 years is better. It doesn’t predate ALL known human civilization, but does at least predate most of the WELL known civilizations. That is suitably old enough to cover a lot of mythological ground…:)
Except when I posted my comment the comic said 3,000 soooo Gilfamesh would have made less sense. The text update changes it all and renders my original post moot.

Solomon might be right on. He lived from 990 to 931 BC which fits into the frame of 3,000 years.
Plus there are tons of legends about Solomon.
You may be right, but I think Homer is a better candidate. He was first and greatest of the epic poets, and thus a good candidate for a Dreamer.
Hi, who was Homer? I have never heard from hem before.
A busker.
The author of the Iliad and the Odyssey if I am not mistaken.
“Not the kind he had hoped for…”
Is the dreamer trapped in an eternal nightmare? Is he inadvertently creating this evil? Rather than a Human being the cause of all this evil, seems it would make more sense for them to be manipulating him, much like Nick was being used.

PS i’m french, so indulge my mistakes.

Check out the name “Menes”. Egyptian (among others) legend, dates vary although 3000 BC is common.
The kind he hoped for came equipped with a bitchin’ camaro and less tubes grafted into his flesh. Which really is the basic criteria for an immortality one hopes for.
Will we learn who this wanna be Methuselah is?
I’m sorry it does not ring any bell’s.
Wikipedia is your friend:

one to rule the light and one to rule the dark

First King…My first thought is Gilgamesh…even though the time frame is not accurate. But I wrote above why I think the timeline is subjective…hehehe
Ack. Was supposed to be 5,000 years.
Tracy fixed it.
If they are keeping him alive, why is his hair so short and his head partially shaved? Did he look like that when they put him in the tank? If so he was really old.
thanks Scott and Tracy! I think the mystery man is Arthur! But that yet has to be determined
The correction to 5,000 years makes it more likely that it’s Gilgamesh. Can’t wait to find out WHO. IT. IS!
Man, that guy is huge! Is he really human?
Also, why is Abbadon suddenly giving up all this info so easily? I don’t trust them…
he could be. (hears dramatic music)

Ah! Thank you, that makes a difference! 🙂

I called Gilgamesh as soon as Abaddon mentioned the Sibu Issahir Amelu to Niviene.

Arthur Pendragon.
Wait a minute… 5,000 years?
That would be… (carries the two, figures back…)
Abraham of Ur?

Still. He’s only as tall as the guy’s *knee*!
Thank you! Please disregard my earlier speculations. Gilgamesh it is.
Well, we already know people were coming and going in the time of Ramses. That’s where the portals came from that Nastaji’s parents used.
