“Me a mermaid? No way! So that is what this fishy thing is supposed to be where my legs were? Didn’t you know that there can be only one and down here I have no competition at all.” Her eyes gets all dreamy. I do miss the Highlander… she thinks to herself. Her eyes then drift to her waist. Bugger no sword.
“take yer f***en hands outta ma face lest ye draw back a godsdamned stump, ye frikken moron” — translation of Nivienes Expression in that last panel. ^^ gosh, have I already said that I love this new style? Totally and utterly awesome
.
This line still bothers me because it assumes the reader has any sort of knowledge as to the longevity of merfolk in Dreamland. If it was just left as impossibly long life, it would just be impossible longevity. Adding “… for a mermaid” poses a question of merfolk longevity that will likely not be answered and presents something as important when it isn’t.
So unless there is some major story element that depends on average merfolk lifespans, it’s somewhat superfluous speech.
No, you have it backwards. He’s saying there are beings that live at least as long as she has, but mermaids don’t, which means she has some trick that’s extended her lifespan. Saying it’s impossible in general would be wrong, hence the qualifier.

Ah, that’s more the expression on her face we know and some loathe.
If they plan to drain Niviene’s life force, how would she look old and wrinkled?
