Page 1698…
Happy Monday!
So, I find it funny that Nicodemus JUST said “I’m at a loss for words” and now… the monologue begins…
🙂
Also… take a look to the right (up towards the top) side of the comic. We have links for the new translations!
We have Polish, Dutch, Spanish, German, and Russian!
Yay!
We still have room for LOTS more translations if any of you are up for helping out!
Just go to the forum and say something.
Cool! Scott: how about you let Nico start out with kind of a face palm, and then go something like “Well, anyway, I don’t see any other humans around here (even fewer Kings), so I guess I have to stick with you… Sigh…”
and then continue with his monologue as above.
Just my 2 ½ bits… I think the switch from “Im at a loss for words” to this seems a bit abrupt/unnatural.
This sounds a lot like he’s going to want to team up with Alex to destroy whatever/whoever is thriving the Abaddon.. in the best interest of Dreamland
…maybe the face palm and no dialogue?
Yeah from going from a loss of words to a full on speech does come across a touch off. I’m sure Nick is doing this for a fourth wall benefit but to whom he’s speaking to…’Oh I’ll just happen to re-evaluate my diplomatic folly with this realm with an enemy who I’ve tried to kill a few times…Why? Cause i was at a loss for words.’
He’s suggesting … an alliance?
Coo.
Speechless to monologue seems fine. When chatterboxes say they’re speechless (but clearly aren’t), it’s a sign he’s being smug/disdainful. It’s a figure of speech, not a literal statement in this case.
Is it just me or did Nicodemus heal his own left horn? It was supposedly broken…If you look closely at it. Hahaha. (p. 1696-1698)
It seems that Nic was always acting “for the best interest of Dreamland”.
This is the standard quote for every villain when he is talking about his motives.
So we see now Nic having a small monologue (possibly talking to the Sword) explaining what he was doing for millennia.
The question still endures: is Nic the standard villain or his motives are really true and pure?
GAH! I forgot to remove it!
Thank you!
What’s Nicodemus REALLY planning????
So, is Nic actually aware of the portals at all? I’m thinking not. I wonder if Alex will tell him at some point. I’m also puzzled now as to this driving force if Abadon is simply the group name for the Nightmare Realm denizens.
I smell a truce and/or alliance proposal from Nic. Wonder what Natasjia will have to say about that?
The Chimmera, maybe?
While I would heistate to call his motives “pure” they honestly have always been for “the good of Dreamland”…problem is, he doesn’t agree that humanity should have greater access to Dreamland (partly due to that whole “getting played” thing), so he overthrew the ruler who was attempting this against his recommendations…thanks in large part to the not-so-charitable guidance from his “friend” Abaddon. You know how that saying goes…”The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.” It just so happens that Nic is learning this the hard way.
The real question now is did he really figure out the error of his ways, or is he playing Alex much the same way as Abaddon played him?
Yep…someone/thing guides them. My money’s on the Dreamer they referenced before. 🙂 Now…to find out who/what this Dreamer is!
At first I suspected Nic was lying. Abaddon’s attempt to invade ancient Egypt, the way it/they set up and facilitated Nic’s usurpation; these certainly suggested Abaddon was more than a savage race, and Nic would have had to have been a fool not to realize that. Then I remembered Abaddon claimed Ramses had attacked THEM. And that with regard Arthur, Nic dealt mainly with the Wraiths, who he may have assumed were just smarter than the average Abaddon. So Nic’s problem may be that he thinks he’s so smart and wise that he over estimates himself and is a sitting duck for manipulation by someone as smart or smarter. But now, if his eyes have been opened…
I dunno, i think it fits. people like Nic are never *actually* at a loss for words. maybe Alex can make a side comment like “so much for loss for words” if it really bothers people, but i think it’s fine as is. And it’s funny because we already know Nic is prone to monologuing anyway.
This is a twist!
Alliance with Nicodemus!?
For what it’s worth, I never believed Nic was ever actually “at a loss for words.”
I also feel this is a bit abrupt. I was expecting a fight. There’s no segue between “You’re an idiot with a rock and I will now smash you,” (which is where my head was going) and this random discussion about Abaddon. I can roll with it, but I did go back a page to make sure I hadn’t missed an update.
That said…thanks, Scott, for all you do! 😀
“Somehow I manage to find cover and what does Baron von Ruthless do?”
[laughing] “He starts monologuing.”
“He starts monologuing! He starts like, this prepared speech . . .”
Yes. Even when we think we are acting for the good of people, we must still be careful not to use evil means (murder, usurping a rightful ruler) to good ends (preserving Dreamland)–that tells us when our convictions go overboard.
The question: Is Nick more interested in killing Alex, or in protecting Dreamland?
You keep suprising me, Scott 😀
Alex: “Ehhh, you are suggesting a team?”
Nick: “… Well, I think ‘Yes'”
After working together for a while
Nick ‘He is trusting me – muhaha!’ And he does kill Alex 😛
Looking forward to the “You know what? Let’s totally team up! Here’s your sword back. I still don’t like you BTW. Now let’s go kick Abaddon’s butts!” scene. 😀
Fixed.
Thanks again.
i was wondering how much longer til we go back to dan and nicole
He was only at a loss of words over Alex brandishing a rock again him, no ?
*against*
I foresaw a team-up with Nick to get rid of Lord Abaddon but I honestly hope it doesn’t come to that, and I’m not really buying Nick’s “I tolerated the idea of Abaddon terrorizing human children because I’m not a total bad guy” act. Nastajia said that only certain places in Dreamland are kid-friendly these days; Nick wasn’t crazy about chatting with Nastajia’s parents because he could smell Alex and the stench was overwhelming; and Nick swore he would love to sever the link between worlds and stop human children from coming altogether.
Well maybe Nick will just use the team-up for his own game, then resume killing Alex afterward, and this time Alex will finish him off but good. *evil laugh*
Did… did Nick just heel/face turn? Huh.
I love that movie so much. 🙂 I need to watch it again…especially now that I’ve read a guy’s theory on how all of the Pixar movies are connected on one timeline… 🙂
And maybe Nic’s desire to sever the connection between worlds extends to wanting to keep the folk of his world out of Alex’s. 🙂 You never know what’s going on inside Scott’s wild and crazy mind! 😛
If you don’t read it with the expectation that there will be a fight, then it’s more of a “You’re an idiot with a rock, but I guess that’s what I have to work with.” 🙂 Abaddons’ reaction as Nic stepped in and took the Sword was the only thing that would have led us to feel like there would be aggression…and many authors are notorious for trying to mislead their readers with false clues like that. 😛 It actually is starting to look like Nic stepped in because he knew Abaddon would assume he’d want to kill Alex, and then once the beasties left he took more of a “Good, they’re gone…let’s talk” attitude.
Actually, if you go back and look it over, Alex is the only one who makes an aggressive move (with good reason given his past experiences with Nic) while Nic just sits there and stares at him…and then judges him for being a bit less than brilliant. 🙂 There’s intense judgment and dislike in Nic’s eyes, but he never indicates that he’s spoiling for a fight. He just takes the Sword from one of the Abaddon (rather violently I might add…which suggests either a complete lack of respect for that life, or his growing anger/frustration towards the legion), and then Nic simply sits/stands there talking.
Another way to fix it would be to swap panels 2 and 4 on the previous page.
