You know, this could actually make sense from a strategic standpoint. This was originally supposed to be a scouting mission to see if Abbadon had the portal. Well, Titania and Oberon showing up on Earth pretty much shows that he does. plus, they can get first-hand info from them about where it is, exactly, and plan an actual raid to seize control and bring Staj’s parents back. And it’s not a retreat if it’s “Mission Accomplished”.
I sense a battle of wills coming up! 😀 If they do try to retrieve the portal, I hope they join up with their friends first. I’d love to see the five all working together again.
You know, this idea has been plaguing me ever since her parents showed up (and I haven’t been keeping up with the comments to see if it’s been said before)…but the timing strikes me as a little odd.
I mean, her parents show up the moment Alex and Nastajia go to the Nightmare realm to find them? They want Alex to surrender the sword and Nastajia to withdraw (and by no means engage ‘Lord’ Abbaddon)?
To me this sounds, like it’s not actually Nastajia’s parents, but rather impostors sent by Abaddon to spy on his enemies…and sabotage them.
This may well be an elaborate scheme to get their hands on the Sword of Kings…first get Alex to surrender it, and when Daniel…who has no idea about dreamland and stuff…arrives, they seize him and thereby control over Astoria. I mean, Alex is backed up by an Army, the princess of Elves and what not…what backup would Daniel have?
Ah yeah, and regarding Alex…he IS aware that he may be able to stay with Nastajia for good if she went through that portal, right? After all, she would then become a denizen of the real world. (Missed by her people without a doubt, but the things we do for love, eh?)
In regard to your last paragraph, I think it’d work better the other way. Alex should go to Dreamland permanently; he already fits in better there than he does on Earth, and Nastajia would have some pretty big problems if she went. Like maybe, giant pointy ears?
Nas doesn’t seem to be thinking things out here. Yes, I can understand she wants to see her parents again; but going through the Portal probably won’t be easy, especially since they don’t know exactly where it is. But more importantly, I would expect her to realize if the Portal is functional enough to allow her parents to reach Earth, that means Abaddon is going to win if that isn’t changed quickly. And as for Alex going through the Portal from Dreamland to Earth while his body is on Earth: I see possible problems. She needs to stop and think a bit, here.
Not necessarily. I once saw a guy on the subway in NYC with pointed ears. Not fake, not for a costume, just actual pointed ears. This is actually a thing people do it seems.
Daniel is not a helpless weakling. Why assume that if he showed up in Dreamland, Abaddon could simply use him? Dan is smart, courageous, self-sacrificing and strong. To say Dan doesn’t know Dreamland because he has only researched it is like saying Darwin didn’t know anything about evolution because he had only observed its results.
Dan knows Dreamland and we know he would be very powerful if he were in Dreamland (because Scott has said so). I get frustrated with this idea that Dan (nerdy, not particularly handsome) is only there to be an additional brain for Alex (charasitmatic, good-looking, sword-weilder) and readers would just like him to “activate” when Alex needs him. Otherwise stay out of our handsome hero’s way.
I like both of the brothers, but I don’t understand folks who just write Dan off as a weakling or unnesessary to the protection and rescue of Dreamland. *sigh*
I don’t know that people are writing him off as a helpless weakling; we’ve all seen potential for a great leader. but the truth of the matter is he DOESN’t know Dreamland. a better analogy would be he’s the ruler of Mars but lives on Earth. He can research Dreamland and hear first hand accounts, but it’s not the same as being there and experiencing it for yourself. to rule it effectively, he needs to be able to be there, even if just on a part time basis (though full time would obviously be better).
I’m still hoping for some kind of co-rulership.
daniel… weakling…. yep, hit the nail on the head. smart, yes. Can Win at Chess, and plan wars, yes. But strong and can fight hand to hand? NO!!! so the term weakling Fits perfectly. he is more the role of merlin than KING. behind the scenes, planner, support personnel, he can even be Royal, just not king, you know the one that swings the Sword… I don’t write him off, I just think that him as King is the funniest thing that I have ever heard in my life, he has his role to play. It is not to be KING.
Remember people, that during the filming of Star Trek 4 in San Francisco that Leonard Nimoy was running around SF with his vulcan ears, and the directors were actually somewhat distraught that almost NOBODY noticed. Depending on where she in Staj might not even cause much of a blink.
Now trying to get anywhere without proper ID, that might be more of a headache! Try explaining the DMV to a Dreamland denizen, they might consider that worse than the nightmare realm!
Anyone can learn swordsmanship. Just because Alex had the chance to learn and Daniel didn’t doesn’t mean Daniel wouldn’t make an excellent fighter. He’s not a physical weakling in the comic…certainly not designed that way. He just hasn’t had the training Alex got.
And contrary to what Hollywood puts out there, most kings are the planners, not the fighters.
I’m fairly sure that Daniel would be a good fighter, if he had the training. That’s the kicker, though. Daniel’s no weakling, but Alex has gone through some serious centaur-based training. If given time, Daniel would probably be equal to (if not greater than Alex, due to his planning and foresight) in physical combat.
But… With that said, this isn’t a peaceful time for Dreamland. I’m not entirely sure that Daniel would have time for training, now. The Nightmare Realm’s very obviously up to something, and there are some irons in the fire. Honestly, it might be best for Daniel to stick around on Earth with Nastajia’s parents, under guard, in a place he knows and has the advantage in.
Personally, I’m hoping that once the Nightmare Realm business is settled and things are safe again, Alex hands over kingship to Daniel. As you said, kings are planners, and Daniel is certainly a planner. He has time to get proper training – this time in safety – and can go about his kingly duties as necessary.
Then Alex hops through the portal and runs off with Nastajia. Everyone wins.
If Alex goes through the portal while he’s asleep…?

I suspect that the portal wouldn’t let him. Or that he’d disappear and just wake up in his own body.
Of course, how they plan to get out of there with no wings…

You may have a point there…

Between all cosplayers, I think she will fit :-).
Good luck stopping her Alex!!!
At that moment,Lord Abbadon’s minions show and capture the pair!!!! :0 😉
Remember, as long as Alex doesn’t let his fear control him, he can fly and take Nas with him.

THAT long and pointed, though…
Gotta vent about comments here and previous days.

BOOM! Alexplosion!
Alex? More attractive than Dan? As if!
…Yeah, I really have nothing useful to add to the conversation.

I appreciate everyone’s responses and points of view. Thanks. 🙂
