Page 1627…
I’m so happy you’re feeling for Alex in this troubling time. I hope this chapter satisfies a lot of your hopes and questions you’ve had over the last few hundred pages.
I’m doing my best to have the characters ask the logical questions you all ask. It’s the same questions and arguments I would make too.
It’s so fun to write Alex realizing a world out there. Outside his own self. Someone he loves more than himself.
This mirror’s my own experience when I met Donna 24 years ago when I was 19.
Like my eyes were opened up. There was suddenly someone I cared about more than me.
So, in this instance… Alex is me here.
Couple days ago? Nicole was totally Donna. She would fight for me if she thought someone was taking credit for something I did.
🙂
Anyways. Thanks for reading.
Scott
Oh my gosh I love this so much my heart is just breaking for Alex and also Dan and you know, just sort of everyone awesome. Gahhhhh. I love it. my heart.
Best move now is for Dan to abdicate the throne
Here’s another logical question to ask: is there any real reason why Dan should need to be personally present in Dreamland in order to rule it? We’ve already seen that he works effectively from the background, with Alex as his adviser and enforcer.
That’s really sweet, Scott. It shows how much real love and emotion went into this chapter.
Well, funny thing there…the sword chose ME…
As a slightly snarky Alex might say…of course, he’ll probably say something a lot smarter, or a LOT dumber…;)
Maybe I’m missing something here from previous chapters that I’m not remembering: but if Nastajia’s parents are in the real world, is there some reason Dan or her couldn’t make the swap also?
At this point, I can’t even remember why everyone’s so certain that Dan’s supposed to be king even though Alex has the sword. I know there was a reason, but I’m spacing on it.
I’m sure there’d be something about Nastajia’s duty to her people, and we don’t know yet how her parents came to be where they are, or even whether it’s possible for them to return.
Dan is the first born thus the right full heir to the throne.
but was barred entry because of Nicodemus’ scheming, technically King Arthur was still alive. Or something 😉
This is just tearing me up inside, but I seem to remember the Sword of Kings mentioning that he’d remain King until he relinquished the sword to Dan so…. maybe if he doesn’t want to he just won’t?
So maybe there should be some changes for the political landscape of Dreamland?
Also, maybe Alex should ask Oberon how he and Titania came to his world?
oh my. I suffocate in kitsch overdose. ^^
Now is the time for Alex to give this whole bunch the “yeah, whatever” line and then just ignore the lot of them. (Like any other boy his age would do in the exact same circumstances.)
That’s certainly an interesting potential solution…though I really want Dan to get to go to Dreamland since he’s never been before…
What these two said. 🙂
I think Scott has hinted heavily that it involves the portal that was stolen from Seraphopolis…so (in theory…and assuming they “rescue” the portal intact from the Nightmare Realm), yes, Dan or Nastajia could pass through to the other world. However, (as Seth rightly pointed out) Nastajia has responsibilities in Dreamland that are not easily abandoned…and Dan has Nicole (and his family) on our side of things…so they’d have to make their trips brief.
Oh I certainly hope not. I hope that Alex has grown beyond acting like “any other boy his age” after his experiences and his recent realization of how he feels for Nastajia. 🙂
Two things…both about Titania in the final panel.
1) I love that she looks pleased/moved/endeared by Alex’s profession of love for her daughter.
2) The reflective nature of her eyes is kind of freaking me out a bit.
Well, I think he’s won over Oberon. I know he’s won over Titania. But is it POSSIBLE Oberon’s words will FINALLY lead Alex to ask the Sword some questions? As the repository of knowledge of what happened to every king in Dreamland, I’m sure it could tell Alex some things if it were asked and would answer.
But then, Alex isn’t one to do things the easy way…
Scott, days like these and comments like yours that encourage me to be a greater supporter of your comment every day. Thanks for letting us be part of your creation, part of your life, and part of the journey.
It’s not about Dan being “first born.” It’s not about lineage–they are not directly related to Arthur. It’s about who is supposed to be King. Dan could’ve been a third born and if he was meant to be king of Dreamland, he would be. Since Dan was blocked from Dreamland, the sword chose the person who would get it closest to Dan. For reasons unknown to us, Dan has the stuff to be the ideal king of Dreamland.
And Dan most likely wouldn’t take it. I’m expecting the brothers to make a united front on this.
I thought maybe she was tearing up.
Here, here!
I hope Alex gets to say, I won’t continue to read if he doesn’t.. I know, childish, but hey, I think Dan is getting it done in the background.
But at some point, kings really do have to be on hand. Regencies never work as well as when the King is there and active.
Maybe, maybe not. Back in the beginning, Dan was pretty upset when Alex insisted on Dreamland, and especially when Alex got into Dan’s books recording Alex’s stories. Now Dan may demand his rightful place there.
That’s just a stereotype. It’s not like boys all have the exact same personality.
But I wouldn’t argue if he did that. 😛
you know when they find the portal to go between worlds. which would need to be relocated and kept secret Dan and Alex will both be able to go into dreamland.
🙂
Thank you
Well then… let Dan become King and Alex can be his Prime Minister and thus everyone gets what they want and lives happily ever after.
Either that or… Viva La Revolution! Down with Monarchy up with Democracy!
Maybe I’m just to literally minded, but the sword picks the King, the sword picked Alex, Alex is King. End of discussion.
heehee, the queen’s face in the last panel! lol Looks surprised/pretty happy about his confession 😛 Though sad the situation doesn’t look very promising right now!
AND DECLARE DREAMLAND A REPUBLIC.
… I’m sounding like a stuck record here… but whatever.
One step at a time. Republic first.
It wouldn’t be a good idea to leave the vote to the common people just yet, especially if one wishes to manipulate leadership of Dreamland in order to let your close friends and family into the country.
Declare Dreamland led by council… so all council members have equal authority…. then make sure that Alex, Dan and Nicole are all council members (along with the existing Dreamland kings / queens). That should ensure that they can all get into Dreamland.
Problem?
