Guess he’ll just have to learn to fly the Nightmaren way:
No fairy dust. No happy thoughts. Just the will to survive.
Horrible things lurking all around, closing in… all avenues of escape seemingly cut off… Doom seems inevitable…
But have enough nightmares like that and you start to recognise the signs… realise that “possible” is irrelevant. To survive, you have to do the impossible, and you force it to happen with every last shred of willpower left in you.
Some folk learn to become invisible… to sink into obscurity and hide where even the worst of monsters can’t find them.
Some folk learnt to compel them as if by mind control… to turn the monsters away and force them to leave. It’s what one of my facebook friends does, as it happens…
I learnt to do things by physical force. I learnt to push away the nasties with my will… and it was a simple step from there to pushing the ground away… and myself upward. Then I learnt to weaponise it… To strike back at the abominations that haunted me… to cut them down with talons of air… to hunt them as they hunted me…
The only problem with learning to harness power in nightmares is…. you tend to become one of them…. a monster… paranoid and viciously lashing out at anything that moves…
I get to be second to comment? After only 5ish years? Bonus!
I’m on my way through my second reading of this awesome comic, and its even better this time. There are so many things I had forgotten about, that this is almost like reading it for the first time.
Thanks Scott for seeing this through all the way to the end! It has been an awesome ride!
