Nastajia finally loses the chunky gloves, and they still can’t hold hands properly. I just don’t think intertwining a warm, bare hand with a cold, metal one would be all that much fun.

Also, Alex’s face in the second to last panel is hilarious.
But I kind of get this nagging feeling that Nastajia’s hair should be longer & lighter. Especially longer, because her ponytail was between her shoulder-blades, but now that her hair is down it’s more at the base of her neck. If anything, shouldn’t it be longer than it was in the ponytail? Since she wears her ponytail so high.
I think… I should know, being a long-haired female 😉
Alex needs to take his armour off for this kind of stuff, I can’t imagine this is very comfortable for either of them. 🙂
I would imagine that his suit could retract away and expose his hand (much the same as it does for his helmet), but I imagine it would be prohibitively expensive to pay to have his model tweaked like that… I’m just a fan, though. It looks good enough to me! 😀

Heh, I’m about the most socially awkward guy around, and I’m pretty sure in this situation even I would have figured it out… romantic night, girl who you know likes you holding your hand and leaning on your shoulder like that…
That said, these pages are great!
I understand that Nastajia loves Alex… but she’s trying to make him grow up faster than he wants. My advice would be to ditch Alex. He’s too childish for her more serious future.

I’m just thinking that Alex never takes a shower in dreamland and has been wearing the same suit since he got it. So I’m wondering if humans in dreamland don’t smell, much the way they can fly, or if the suit is magically protecting his companions from his odor.
Or Nastajia loves him more than humanly possible
(which, given she ain’t human, is possible).
Or taking showers in the “real” world clean him in Dreamland.
Or myriad other possibilities that I’m not seeing just now…

Also: I agree with Lax, that Nastajia looks odd in the last two panels. Kind of creepy, if you ask me. I don’t know if she looks like that because we’re not used to this facial expression either. It’s just… she keeps the expression up for too long. Maybe that’s it.
Becoming king of Dreamland would have a great many advantages and disadvantages which must be weighed against each other, but the question I find myself asking is this:
If he should take the title, would he still be able to return to the waking world?
I think — despite the fact that it’s not the DIPLOMATIC way to phrase it — he just gave the Exact Right Answer. For those who WISH to be Kings are probably the ones least likely to be WORTHY of Kingship. Case in point: Nicodemus.

1 thing i don’t understand is why her eyes are so big in the panels, she is looking at him, but wouldn’t it be more comfortable to turn her head a little? or just stare to the sky or something 🙂 it’s not bad but I’m sure it hurts a bit after a while to look like that (you should try it you will feel your eyesockets hihi)

I too am a long-haired female. What you’re seeing at her shoulders is the first of long-layers. I think I have the same hair cut LOL! I’ve got a couple short layers in front that frame my face like you see there, then a long layer at my shoulders, then the longest length is just past my shoulderblades. When I wear my hair in a high-placed pony-tail, my hair goes up to mid/top shoulder.

Nastajia’s eyes look weird from the 2nd frame down. They’re usually an almond shape (even when she gets that wide-eyed look), here they look more rounded.

Personally, I think Alex *could* stop being such a dummy, but it’s gonna take time and effort. This is a guy who, like so many people today, has been encouraged by a worsening educational system to NOT do his own thinking. He doesn’t have to be a genius to be a good king, he just needs to learn how to exercise what he does have until it gets stronger and he can trust in it. Unless the quest ahead REALLY shakes up his brainpan, our favorite princess is going to have a long road ahead of her in supporting him while he gets it together. But that’s one of the many wonderful things love is about, helping the person you care about find the good parts of themselves they may have missed.
While the opportunity for romance is certainly rife here, I don’t think Alex interprets the king reference as a reference to marriage. I think he knows that being king means taking on a huge burden of responsibility – and responsibility has never been something he’s wanted or been inclined to. In fact, I think responsibility terrifies him. Her hand in his may be the only thing keeping him from running away screaming… 😉
Does Alex have anything except his armor to wear? I don’t think this would go well in his pajama shorts.

Seems the hero never really wants to be king at first… always with the self doubt, and then they make a great leader. Contrasts with the megalomaniac which usually makes a lousy leader. Another great page, Scott!
Hey, heroes act in the shadows! If he’s strong enough, he’ll resist that temptation.
Those who want to be king, deserve to be king–but the rest of the people don’t deserve to have such a king, unless they do nothing to stop him. If that makes any sense.
I love Alex’s panel 3 expression!
Her expression in the last few panels is fine. I’ve seen people give that exact look before. It may seem weird at first, because we’re used to her being so tough, but it shows how much she lets her guard down around him. Good job, Scott!
I also thought that her eyes looking that large looks a bit odd. Maybe close them just a bit or make her angle her head back a little so she doesn’t have to open her eyes so much. Still.. some people seem to like it so… *shrug*
I flipped back through the previous few pages and saw something on page 888 when we first see Nastajia’s new look. In the 3rd panel when she grabs her head, her arms are raised. The buttons with tassels that are normally attached to the top hem of her dress at the ampits are now floating in space, basically. Also, the fabric texture is different, and the top hem (purple now, dark grey on 888) appears to be missing. Looks like a completely different outfit, actually. Maybe Scott had to do so because the current outfit doesn’t lend itself to that arm position?
I think that for the hand holding, the armor should retract itself from his hand. It recognizes many of his wishes, and responds to threats. She is not a threat, and I bet he wishes he could hold her hand.

You’ll see that the gloves/gauntlets are part of what he put on. They may, in fact, be physically attached to the underlying sleeves.
So, a thought. Most gauntlets only cover the outer part of the hand with metal (to protect it when holding the sword) usually it is open on the inner part and leather gloves or the like are worn to grip the weapon. Alex’s armor is a fantasy version of that, so it would make sense that the inner part of it would be softer and more flexible. (If the material can’t compress, he wouldn’t be able to close his hands). So more like holding hands with someone wearing suede gloves than holding metal fingers. (Well, metal on the outside, so the thumb would still be gripping some metal and the like.)

I think her eyes are fine. That is what a person actually looks like when looking at someone in that position. When Alex looks down at her all he will see are her beautiful eyes and an all around cute image. Anyways, her eyes are a little larger then the average person and so are his so you will see a lot more then you usually would. ;P
Psst, Alex, that’s your girlfriend, you can get a little more comfortable with her! Like lose the armor and show off your tighty-whities and cute bum. 🙂
But I agree, Alex’s answer is PERFECT. He’s overwhelmed by the idea of all the responsibility, and how Dreamland is no longer an ideal getaway from the real world, but with its own problems (Nick) and rewards (Nastajia and the others.) However, he also knows he must help his friends, his home-away-from-home, and all the other children who visit from Nick and the Nightmare Realm.
I read thru from the beginning over two days (alternating pages with one other comic, Yu+Me (strangely enough, they go well together.) Now I have to follow along like the rest of the fans. Added you to my TWC faves so I won’t miss any. 🙂

I’ve always found it interesting that Dan never dreams. Personally I’ve always favoured DAN for ‘exiled king of dreamland’ (with Alex as his champion) as a neat twist I’d certainly prefer over Alex.

Phew. Took me 5 days or so but I read from the beginning till now. I found the ad for the dreamland chronicles on another webcomic page. So glad I did. I’m seriously gonna ask my family to buy me the books for christmas!
