Page 779…
I’m in NY visiting family. We’ll be gone all week…so please excuse me if I’m not replying to emails or posts here. We’re taking the boys to visit NY City. We’re going to visit FAO Shwartz and the Empire State Building…yay!
I hope you enjoy this week.
This page is one of my favs. I love the moments between Dan and Nicole.
Scott
Aww… the top two panels are cute.
I read this comic almost purely for Nicole and Dan, so yay! I don’t know, I guess it’s because I read so many fantasy comics. The lack of epic adventureness with Dan and Nicole is refreshing.
The look of surprise on Nicole’s face is just priceless. This should prove interesting. I doubt we’ll be going back to Dreamland, though. Or if we do, it’ll be just Alex’s talking about it when he wakes up.
In the words of some guy I know who’s really into shipping… “Squish”
As a Brit, I really hated the Empire State when I visited last December. It was incredibly over commercialised and I despised the hard selling of the employees. They pushed too hard to try and get you to buy a photo of yourself amongst other things. Found the experience forgettable and overhyped.
Make sure you go to the NHL building! D: Hockey ftw.
their babies will have the biggest lips and mouths ever, LoL.
I don’t know how you did it, but Nicole’s expression covers a wide range of emotions. Disbelief, suspicion, surprise, and “are you sure?” Priceless.
YAYAYAYAAAA I’m so happy! I’ve been waiting for the actual sparks to fly in a less livid way. ♥ Geek love is so precious. 😀
This is a TOTALLY awesome page, and I agree with the others Nicole’s look is… priceless. 😉 keep up the excellent work!
love is in the air
I Love NYC..but I’m also sorry to say that FAO Schwartz went out of business a while ago! I used to love visiting them. Toys R Us however, is still functional and has a Ferris wheel that I’m sure your kids will love.
This is one of those moments that just make you go D’awww ^.^
Enjoy yer trip!
First time I’ve ever commented here, and it’s because I have so. much. love. for these first two panels. Dan/Nicole FTW!
I agree with the others, Nicole’s face is priceless! She’s got that “I’m a little kid and I’m lost!” look on her face. And the angle we’re looking at her makes it even more so. Then Dan looking down like a helpful grownup. Great job Scott!
I went to FAO schwartz fairly recently and it has not closed.
The main branch everyone talks about is 767 Fifth Avenue, and is still open.
I don’t know if anyone has realized this before, but Daniel and Nicole wear glasses – even though they don’t even seem to look through them most of the time. Are they both far-sighted and do they only need reading glasses? But then why bother wearing them at all when not reading?
I could, of course, consider another explanation e.g. the artistic one, that one can see their eyes better without the glasses covering them and thus allow more expression in them… I guess I’m nit-picking… 😀
Anyway, I love this page as well. 🙂 It’s a beautiful scene. I still feel sorry for Nicole. She seems so shaken here.
For Sythiar, My daughter wears glasses all the time, she pretty much just needs them. She needs them most for reading, but even when not reading, she has to “focus” (her words) on objects or she gets eye strain by the end of the day. She says even people in the same room aren’t exactly “sharp” when she’s not wearing her glasses. That and as an artist, I’d hate to have to always add or remove their glasses, depending on a scene. That and it’s fantasy 🙂
Careful of the time you pick to visit the Empire State Building. I’ve been to NY a few times and the last time I went, it took my wife and I 2.5 HOURS to make it to the top! After you get to the front of one line, they then shuffle you off to the next huge line you didn’t see before. We stayed in line because it’s one big glimpse of hope after another, in what is really a dark and evil situation. 😉 We went through 6 seperate lines before getting to the top. It was one of the most frustrating experiences of our lives.
🙂 Love this page! You said it Emily! Geek love… LOL!
Super special awesome page! Have fun in New York, Scott!
Well, I can’t say anything about Empire State – I was lucky enough to make friends with someone who works there, so we skipped a lot of lines. 😉
I’m WAY relieved FAO Schwartz is last reported alive and well – I was gonna hafta cry myself to sleep!
… ANYway…. I love this page! ditto what others have said
Thanks all. We’re in NY (not the city…at our cousin’s house in Chappaqua). I’ll let you know if FAO Shwartz still lives. 🙂
Glad you liked today’s page. I tried to get a lot of various emotions in Nicole’s look. glad some of it came across.
such big eyes…
I almost want to guive her a hug and tell her that she was dreamig…
Although dreaming about dreams kinda sounds odd…
I guess you have been waiting for this moment for quite awhile then as both an artist and story teller. =) I have problems trying to convey to the audience how my characters play out their roles.
Aww…Nicole! She looks so…….helpless, in a way.
I’ve seen Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center suggested instead of the Empire State, simply because the latter is a pain in the neck to get into.
On the glasses thing – I wear glasses all the time because I have rather severe astigmatism, which just means that everything is blurry unless it is exactly two feet away from me. So that could be it. However, since Nicole and Dan DO rarely seem to look through their glasses: I do know a few people who keep their reading glasses low on their nose at all times and just look down through them when they have to read a book.
Chances are, the glasses would have blocked their eyes and hindered expression like you suggested. Most glasses-wearing characters in comics have ridiculously oversize lenses, you’ll notice. ;P And most of them seem to need glasses all the time like me. So who knows?
Oooh…I know! I know!
🙂
It’s an artistic thing. I keep ’em low to show expressions.
They both need glasses.
To Scott: Hehe… thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was something like that.
To Tory: I know that many anime characters who wear glasses often seem to have them in extra large. Somehow I’ve got the feeling that there the problem is similar. Just in this case the glasses need to be big enough to be able to see the eyes (which are also extra large, usually :D).
To Val: I maybe should have stated that I’m wearing glasses since I’m eleven, so I too know what it’s like. 🙂 I hope your daughter will adjust to her glasses a bit better in the future – or will grow out her bad eye sight. Depending on the manner of the correction it can be difficult to cope with glasses, I know…
Love is in the air…
EVERYBODY PANIC, IT’S GONE AIRBORNE!
I think she senses some evil vibe coming from his devil hair
I’M TELLING YOU HE’S EVIL EVIL EVIL
ZOMG! Dan and Nicole!!!
virtual rofl for foxby …
😉
AWWWW!
I am still expecting “epic” from Dan and Nichol somewhere in the next 300 pages.
