Hey all…
I wanted to take some time today to talk to you about Lora Innes’ comic the Dreamer.
I got to meet Lora in Baltimore and we exchanged comics and such.
ย
What a wonderful and extremely talented person!
On top of similar names to our books and a fascination for dreaming…we also share the same publisher.
Yes. The Dreamer and The Dreamland Chronicles are BOTH published through IDW.
I’ve read the first 3 issues of the comic and it is SO smart and well researched and fun and…well….you HAVE to read it.
So click this picture. Click it NOW!
No…wait. Finish reading this post first! WAIT
DON’T CLICK IT YET!!!!
ย
Whew. THank you.
There’s one more thing to add.
Lora just sent me a wonderful Halloween piece she did with her characters dressed up as characters of other webcomics! Can you guess who Beatrice is dressed up as???
Can you???
ย
I’m so glad I met Lora at Baltimore and hope to hang out with her again soon.
She’s such a wonderful person and so talented. Pleae go say hi. Read the wonderful story. And…well…thank me later.

I may have first post *eeep*
I expected her to come out with something like that – being research minded myself. I also like metaphysics and dream interpretation. But consider that ol’ Sigmund and our ancient Grecian may have only remembered their prior experiences in dreamland. Chicken or the egg anyone?
I expected Nicole to come out with something like that. She would always look for some logical (to her) answer to a question.
Now to see Alex’s reaction.
… Your point? How is any of it relevant? Thus far I don’t see anything meaningful coming from Nicole. Unless she’s going to pull out an account that’s exactly like what Alex described then I think she’s coming off as a jerk.
She still does not beleive. She does get points off for throwing a book. Handing it over, opened at the correct page, would have been far more effective. Also she must be immensely strong, I couldn’t throw a book that big and bulky that far with one hand.
Hey…The Dreamer! Isn’t that one on Drunk Duck? (I’ve been meaning to read it sometime…)
Man, if my brother caught me throwing a book like that, I’d be in hot water for sure! XD
I clicked the picture (and opened it in a new window so I could continue reading what you had to say…) ^_^
And zomg… are you holding a Paddington plushie?
=O
I want one! It’s so adorable!
Dutch, I wouldn’t be hard on Nicole for tossing the book. I could see Alex doing the same.
But Paddington as a plushie? Cute, yet so untrue to his rocky nature.
I wouldnรขโฌโขt be hard on Nicole for tossing the book. I could see Alex doing the same.
Yeah, but that’s because Alex is a sports jock. Nicole ought to know better.
And as to all those previous records of cat-thieves…
Of cause it is unlikely that all of those dreamers have met Felicity herself. And it’s equally unlikely that all cat-folk in Dreamland are thieves.
But perhaps the thieves, rogues and tricksters among the cat-folk are simply the most likely to interact with Human dreamers…
Nastajia and… Jonas!! *squeals*
OMG, that plushie is so cute!!! ^_^
… Is that the Paddington plush?!
Yes. Yes. It’s the Paddington Plush I’ll have for sale very soon. He’s absolutely adorable. He even has a rock texture to him.
And I’m a bit disturbed at how much we look alike….yikes.
I could see it coming. Nicole trying to explain away something that isn’t yet provable in a lab. I think her tossing the book is rather symbolic of her tossing around those argumentative points she tries to make.
Paddinton plushie! CUTE!!
Here I thought Nicole could finally accept the reality. Darn. I trust you did your research Scott, but…cat thieves are really common in dreams? Unless people went to scholars and psychologists over the centuries because they visited Dreamland. Even if Nicole never met Felicity, I think she still spent time in Dreamland when she was a kid, and now she’s clinging to science to cope with the fantasy.
All the images are broken.
I think she’s just suppressing. Science has to be everything for her, so she’s just ignoring her own dreams past. ๐
Common theme in dream interpretation is a Cat = Thief.
It’s symbolic I guess. SO Nicole is equating this as a “common thing”. If you dream of a cat….you’re thinking thief.
I think she also tossed the book because maybe…JUST maybe Alex struck a nerve by mentioning a certain familiar cat girl thief…doesn’t she seem agitated to anyone else? Not quite so eloquent in her speech, rather rocky.
Gotta admit, I love The Dreamer, though I’d like to see the odd sympathetic British character thrown into the mix. Very good romance comic – though it’s hard to see how it can end well. But I guess that’s part of what keeps me reading ๐
On Nicole – I think she’s more focused because she has reason to think she has a good scientific explanation in the works. This galvanises her because she’s no longer lost. I don’t think she’s any closer to accepting the reality in any way.
Halloween pic
I recognize Jonas (The Phoenix Requiem), Nastajia (The Dreamland Chronicles), and Tyche (Xylia), but the other 2 I probably don’t read, cause I don’t Recognize who the Dreamer Characters are dressed as.
Let’s see… Is Beatrice dressed up as a fireman? ๐
I’ll be interested to see where Nicole takes this whole “It’s all in your mind” thing (that appears to be the way she’s going. Wow, wow, wow……. O_o
Halloween pic – Doug’s got most of them already. I’ll add Sabrina ‘Ultragirl’ Mancini from Rival Angels (The blonde punching the air). No idea who ‘cat-bloke’ is though.
is cat guy on left from lacksdaisy?
alex looks great in the first panel
actually i believe the one with the cat ears on the far left is from the comic no rest for the wicked
Not sure, whom the other characters are, there’s like, three I can place. Loving today’s comic (and darn it, you’ve got me reading dreamer, too!) I can and have lobbed books that big onehanded, when I knew they were going to be caught, so that wasn’t even an issue for me.
@Dayana — I noticed Jonas, too!
Others have named them already, but I’ll go ahead and list the four Halloween costumes I recognize:
Far left=Perrault from “No Rest for the Wicked”
2nd from left=? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Middle=Uh, yeah, duh. ๐
2nd from right=Jonas from “The Phoenix Requiem”
Far right=Tychia from “Xylia”
Addendum: Ah, I see now that fist-pumping blonde has been named. Good show.
actually i believe the one with the cat ears on the far left is from the comic no rest for the wicked
It’s hard to be sure, but I’d tend to agree: That’s Perrault – The Puss in Boots.
And on the topic of research concerning people apparently travelling to foreign worlds in their dreams…
Has anyone thought of consulting H.P.Lovecraft yet?
I’m waiting for Nicole’s next line to be ‘Cats as thieves are very common, even I used to dream of one as a kid’ ๐
*refuses to let go of theory*
Who doesn’t? Everyone knows cats make good thieves because they are flexible, fast, and they use a natural equivalent of daggers.
She does have lots of talent!
I love her comic, I read it before coming to Dreamland.
Cats also have natural curiousity, and are quiet, nocturnal, and rather lazy except when it comes to what they really want at the moment. Like thieves.
Alex: *reading the book* “Cat in dream…indicates desire for cheezburger, as spelled with a ‘z.'”
Ever heard of the legend of a cat getting into an infant’s crib and stealing the infant’s soul through its breath?
… yeah, the “cats as thieves” motif goes back a LONG way …
๐
I recognized all of those except cat-fellow on the far left. Lora’s The Dreamer is great, and so is Xylia!
For those who don’t know it, it is a very worthwhile read:

I had not noticed this before, but panel 3 allowed me to notice just how well built the Nicole model is. By this I don’t mean that she looks physically strong, but that she is built as a real person.
I’ll go with…chicken. Save the egg for breakfast.
The last picture-link of Halloween and the first picture-link both seem to be unavailable at the moment (in the blog) but the last picture-link can be found at http://thedreamercomic.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/halloween_1920x1200.jpg
as well.
Personally, I have never dreamt about a cat being a thief though.
