Page 761…
Artemidorus…
I looked him up.
He’s the guy who kind of founded Dream Interpretation (for those of you who don’t want to wait for TOMORROW’S page where Nicole explains it a bit).
🙂
See…the problem with writing someone SMARTER than you is…
You have to research things. Ugh. I hate researching. That’s why I went to ART SCHOOL. So I didn’t have to look things up.
Oh well. I DO love doing Dreamland…so I guess I can’t complain…much.
And for those of you wondering about Felicity and Nicole. I hope this puts things to rest.
Tune in tomorrow for more high flying adventure and…wait. I mean…
Tune in tomorrow for more talking.
Yeah. THat’s about right.
Thanks all!
Scott
Dang… another theory shot down in its prime… or is Scott purposely misleading us….? 😛
‘Dream Interpretation’ eh? Is Nicole going to declare that Alex has a subconscious unresolved issue with cats stemming from a traumatic childhood experience? :p
No, Nicole is going to declare that Alex is a perv who likes catgirls so much that he dreams about them.
What theory? i never heard a theory. is it a theory were felicity was nicoles dream friend as a girl?
No, the trick to writing someone smarter than you is to get someone smarter than you to do the research.
*ponies up 5 bucks*
Or, Nicole has repressed it, yeah. Or she could be one of the poor things that were spelled out of Dreamland, like Alex’s brother.
Or mabe on a later page Nicole and Alex meet in dreemland
Artemidorus was a Greek geographer, who wrote about Mediterranean Sea travels. His works are in tatters.
I’m guessing she wants him to make a map of Dreamland.
Ah man, I know what you mean about looking things up! XD I’ve run into that same problem with my comic, John Clyde the Nature Guide, a few times…I have to look up facts on animals and plants. O,o
Oh brother. Don’t even TRY to interpret Alex’s dreams, Nicole! Not working–accept that fact. >,<
Gesundheit, Nicole.
@ Bese: *snicker* 😛
Hmm… I wonder what enormous words and sentences will materialize in Nicole’s speech bubblesss… 😀
I know the name of Artemidorus as a character in “Julius Caesar.” Not all that important, as he gives one of several ignored warnings, but he does get an entire scene to himself in addition to part of the assassination scene.
The other thing I know about the name is that it features the five main vowels in order.
Research is one of my favorite parts… ^^;
Or has Nicole just realized that in HER rare, bizarre dreams she only sometimes recalls in bits and pieces, Felicity is her dreamland alter-ego?
this talk about Nicole in Dreamland got me thinking (dangerous I know)… Now that Alex is grown, he can only go back wearing his necklace. What would happen if Dan (or someone else) wore it?
Hmmmm… Looking over the posts, it would seem that Artemidorus is a name shared by many historical figures.
Personally, I like the research part.
Or this could be a set up for a “I think I knew a Felicity before” thing. 😀
The way he set this page up, he was totally playing off those of us who shared the rumor… And still has yet to really answer the question. We shall see. 🙂
I believe the one who is referred to can be found on wiki. I won’t post the link since all of you should look it up yourselves.
Talk about the edge of my seat. I nearly fell over when I reached the last panel.
Put it to rest, hmm? It would… unless, of course that’s what you’d want it to do…. like a surprise birthday party.
I love you. :3
Hehe… you know what I absolutely love about this comic, apart from the comic itself of course *G* All my favourite Comic creators seem to read it (Lora, ArtsAngel) … Yey 😀
First, Just found this today and read it front to back. Loved it! And can’t wait to read more, and I’m sending it to all my friends. 😀
Second, I completely feel your pain in writing in smart characters. I write fiction, and do my fair share of research on stuff just to add depth and authenticity to an intelligent character.
and here u expected you to bring up Freud but this is better ^_^
And poof, Nicole does magic, with the magic words: Artemidorus. Okay, maybe not…
Alex needs to get a REALLY long chain for his sword necklace, so that he, Dan, and Nicole can all comfortably wear it at once.
(Wouldn’t THAT be interesting … )
😉
Expecting Alex’s expression would say: Artemisdoofuspardon???
He also wrote a lot about dream interpretation. Art claimed that cats in dreams are symbols of treachery and deceit.
The mentioned “problem” problem in writing is not limited to writing “smart characters’. every interseting character knows a lot about something or other. I guess this problem has helped popularize the “coming of age” tale where the main character is not as able or as smart as others, but has to resort to other means to make up for it. Also, if the main character is too smart, readers may feel distant or unidentified. Having secondary characters that know a lot is very common, though, so research (or imagination) has to be used quite a bit anyway.
… and my grammar and punctuation suck more than usual today. 🙁

Because THAT won’t accidentally get someone strangled…
