English is not my mother language, so I may be wrong, but shouldn’t it be “Look at Excalibur”, rather than “Look to Excalibur” ?
I like the way the plot is going, btw =)
Archaic, yes, but I don’t think it’s correct in this context. To “look to” something or someone meant to set your sights on it (or them), to focus your efforts and attention on the object mentioned (“look to the east; your reward is there”) or to set your hope on someone (“look to your king for aid”). While it could be argued that Niviene is implying all of this when she tells Daniel to “look to” Excaliber, I think that the clear idea is that she’s telling him to “look at” Excaliber, because it’s glowing.
Will these two beloved boys become the long-awaited link between Dreamland and Earth, Alex in Dreamland and Dan on Earth? Hmm . . . I wonder, I wonder . . .
I hope, as part of his renaissance faire activities, Daniel learned the basics of sword fighting. There’s more to it than just swinging a piece of metal around. Because if the Nightmare Realm guys are making their move, he may be about to have to get physical…
Th water looks funny to me… is it supposed to look like the inside of her cave? Or the surface of a lake? Reminds me more of popcorn ceiling. O.o Maybe it’s because it’s nearly all we see as a background at the moment and thus we just see too much of it.
I think it actually could be used in place of “look at” in archaic usage. I’m not an expert on this kind of thing, but I feel like I’ve seen it used that way in period films (or Shakespearean stuffs…maybe…).
I imagine that the surface of water at night is hard to render just right…I do agree it looks a bit matte-finish instead of reflective, but I don’t know how feasible it is to produce a different look for it.

I agree with Evan. The director for the LoTR movies didn’t just add in, “Oooooo let’s make his sword glow blue when orcs are close! Wouldn’t that be cool??” for the hell of it. It’s actually written in the books like that and given that the series was written between 1937 and 1949 I would say it’s more than a ‘plot device.’
And Orcrist is the one Dwarves got hold of. When you see a sword built into a stone and wonder whose practical joke this might be, Dwarves are the first who come to mind.
This envigorating discussion spurred me to “look up” some Shakespear and “look through” his works. 🙂 I do believe, from my perusals, that if we’re going to go with archaic English, the phrase “look on” is much more common for the much-debated purpose than “look to.” The context to the phrase mentioned in comments above mine (“Look to the queen there, ho!”), is Osric shouting for someone to look after the queen, because she’s fainting.
I will concede, however, that old and middle English was never standardized the way that modern English has been. Shakespeare was known to have taken quite a few liberties with language (even with his own name), I imagine writing in whatever way seemed to flow best. You could probably stand to make that glow slightly brighter here, Scott. Or maybe just a slightly different blue from the ambient light – it took me a second to remember the plot point and realize what I was seeing wasn’t reflected moonlight.
Then again, there’s a lot more time between pages reading online than reading the comic, and my memory is shoddy anyhow!
I just noticed, not to be bashful or anything, but wouldn’t Niviene’s hair be dripping and a bit of water running down her or something? Or are we assuming they’ve been talking for a few minutes? I don’t see how her hair always looks the same. From the magic to be able emerge from the water? idk. I like the suspense and where it’s going. Exciting!
Actually if you look back to to 1582. It seems as though they were already talking for a while when we rejoined them back then. So I would say her hair would be probably be dry by now.
Look at tomorrow’s comment by Scott. She’s not actually in their world, only projected. I imagine something like a hologram with which we are able to communicate, but not touch. But at the same time, she does have the ability to transcend this barrier and interact on a physical level when appropriate. i.e. when she kissed Merlin, or when entrusting to Dan Excalibur.

“Look to” is an archaic form. Perfectly valid in this scenario. Modern usage would be “at” though.
