Just wondering, why do you use bold italics so much? What does it mean? I assumed it just meant louder and with a lot of force at first, but that sounds really weird if you read it that way.
I really like the lighting effects today. Nastajia looks almost tangible, like you could reach out and touch her. Love the comic, by the way. Don’t know if I’ve mentioned that recently. Keep up the good work.
@Tony – I’ve been wondering the same thing. It does make sense for it to be stressed, as that is the way stressed phrases are shown in literature, if you try reading these phrases out load, the stress is put in the wrong place for it to sound natural – and actually occurs to regularly. If you take out the emphasis on “loyalty” and “accordingly” it reads better. Still enough emphasis to set the tone of the conversation, but makes it just a little less jarring.
I also had a question regarding the design – is the footer complete? As it’s currently very difficult to read the links and text. ^^
But enough nitpicking – I will say that I do love the comic, and am in awe of the update schedule that you keep. Excellent work, sir!
Actually I get asked this a lot.
In almost every sentence there’s a word that’s emphasized.
WHere it’s emphasized changes the meaning of the sentence.
For instance…
YOU totally love her.
You TOTALLY love her.
You totally LOVE her.
First could work if the person is singling out someone.
The second could work if they’re coming to a conclusion.
The third they are emphasizing the love.
Say them out loud…it makes a difference.
At least I think so.
π
Anyways…thank you for the crits and thank you for the complements. I really do appreciate it.
Scott’s sentences do sound odd if you attempt to read all the stresses with the same level of emphasis. Some of them work best if the stressed word is only slightly different to the surrounding ones, but the stress itself is still there if you check closely, or at the least it’s not on the other words of the sentence.
Ah, there’s that old dwarf hardheaded stubbornness. You could spend all day trying to smack some sense into him without success.
And if dwarves have such long memories and loyalty, what about the king that Nico replaced 600 years ago?
Also, since the dwarves are so loyal to Nico, either Nico has the tablet that was entrusted to the dwarves, or the dwarves don’t know they have it.
Okay… I’ve been reading this comic for over two hours, and got to here in one sitting. And I must say, I LIKE it!!
Kiwi’s so funny, and Paddington is the bomb! And I also read this comic called Two Kinds. Felicity looks a bit like Flora from that comic π
Hooray for wireless internet and laptop underneath the covers…
Bognok: “I acted accordingly…by forging a lot of X-wings for the Elven Air Force. Unfortunately Nicodemus was several moves ahead and this was the wrong genre for starfighters so…”
Seriously don’t understand. I’ve never had this problem. The words emphasized sound perfectly natural when I read them aloud, and in some instances give some insight on the characters speaking.
I don’t have the word stressing problem because I speed-read. Not the actual speed (although I can hit over 1000 words per minute) but the technique. Not pronouncing the words, even in your head, means the stress doesn’t come from the font; it comes from the context.
On the other hand, if I slow down and actually read it, sometimes the stress is perfectly fine and at other times it’s so jarring I can barely read it (I literally have to shift back to speed-reading to get through some of them).
Personally, I like my emphasizing like I like my cussing. Rare enough that it actually means something.
DEATH TO THE DWARVEN KING!!!

I think the bolder ittalics is a way of emphasizing… Stressing certain words.
I wonder what the dwarf king will think when he hears about Alex…?
Hey – Good meeting you @ Heroes on Sunday. Thanks again for the books, figures & sketches! π

Yay! Welcome back!
Those triangle hoop earrings Nast is wearing are sooooo out of date. π
-__- How rude of him. But then he’s a Dwarf….Hmn sound fantasy-racist or just keep my mouth shut….XD.
all hail the dwarfen king! any dwarfen king would say such words as far as i know ^^

Her face makes her look almost like a barbie in that last frame.
i hope they kill him the way Kratos decapitated that dude in god of war 1
If you’re a traitor to someone everyone hates(basically a dictator), are you still betraying your country by betraying your king?
or dictatress.
that should be a word.

I smell a blood feud.

It’s just to show the extra emphasis that are often used in key words in speech. Some people use italics or underline for the same effect

So that’s why Legolas and Gimli didn’t like eachother at first… I was wondering
Yeah, I think we’ve concluded that Felicity and Flora are twin sisters separated at birth.
