We’re MOVING!
Well…it’s official.
We’ve booked our one way tickets and will be leaving Los Angeles as of June 11th.
We’ve purchased our house in Tennessee (yes…we’re moving to Tennessee) and getting ready for the big day.
This will NOT affect the daily pages of Dreamland coming out. But it WILL affect whether I can finish Book Two in time for Comic Con.
So I am going to let you all know that I will NOT have it for sale at Comic Con.
I WILL have Book One, Ed’s Terrestrials, Pet Robots, and of course the new Kiwi and Nastajia figures for sale.
Our Booth number is 1947 for those keeping track.
We have no family out in Tennessee…and have only been there twice. So any advice would be great.
I’ll keep you guys posted on the move and how everything is going.
So, where in the great state of Tennessee are you moving to? I just recently moved to Knoxville(East TN) myself. Of course, can’t post without saying that I really love the comics, Don’t have the book, yet, but it’s on my wishlist to get soon.
Hey Will…
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like the comic.
We’re moving to Franklin, TN. Just 15 minutes south of Nashville.
Ok, now they’re in the kraken cave, and what has attracted Felicity’s attention….?
Good luck with your move.
I moved a few years back, out of my mum’s house in FL all the way over to Cali [near SF] to live with my boyfriend.
I think as long as you aren’t alone, it should be okay. XD Then again, having a lovie who lived here all his life did help… But yeah, my inspirational message still stands.
Btw, I
….my message got eaten. I was trying to say I love your comic, and tend to check it once a week so I have some pages to go through XD I love that it’s updated so faithfully, so I can always depend on it to be there to entertain me :]
Good luck with the move! I grew up in Nashville and worked in Franklin part time in high school. I don’t know of any advice, really. It’s a nice area, but I may be a bit prejudiced about my hometown.
My mom and stepdad went to Nashville. They LOVED it there. If they had the money they would love to move there.
When my husband and i moved from Louisiana to New Hampshire a year ago we passed through Chattanooga, Tennessee and had a tire blow-out. A lot of people on the road were signaling to us and some cops stopped and helped us move the truck to a remote location and helped get our car off the tow hitch, and then gave us the number for a local U-Haul place! Maybe it was because i was visibally pregnant and they felt sorry for us or the people in Tennessee are just really nice and helpful, but we were so grateful. Even the guy that changed out the tow-hitch was so nice. He kept calling us and keeping us updated since he came 3 hours late.
So yeah, we were very surprised and happy with our limited experience in Tennessee. Plus, it was some of the prettiest scenery we drove through.
As a TN native, let me just say… beware the bible-thumpers. Franklin has about 15% of all of TN’s religious fanatics. So if you’re welcomed to the neighborhood by people bearing bibles, smile politely and get them out of your house ASAP, else you’ll be listening to many, many hours of religious lecture. Another little tidbit; the scenery’s great, but coming out of LA you may not be used to all this fresh air. 😛
Also! I love the comic, been reading for a while now. Just thought I’d pop in some advice for TN. Hope your move goes well!
I absolutely love underwater stories. It’s really cool to see how character has their own personalized mermaid tail.
I think you’ve outdone your earlier pages with the underwater scenes (even though the earlier pages were great!) I can’t wait to see what other surprising environments come along.
I have friends who used to live in Franklin (they now live in Columbia, down the freeway south from there). Let me know if you would like the personal contacts and I’ll hook you up with their coordinates. They aren’t comic types (that I know of), but are good people nonetheless and have lived there for going on about 14 years now. And the male of the couple is Welsh and they moved from Munich, so it was a bit of an adjustment… imagine it might be similar to the moving-from-LA thing.
Good luck!
Sweet! you guys are moving about an hour away from Hunstville, AL. (where I live) yeah if you’re not religious watch out up there. that whole section is part of the bible belt. there are literally church signs every five minutes and yes they have signs for churchs. =] If you guys are interested you should come check out persacon. the anime convention here in Huntsville. It would be great to meat you guys.
First off, amazing work on the comic. I always look forward to pulling it up. Secondly, welcome to the great state of Tennessee, I know a little early, but you get the point. Franklin is a nice area. I just helped move my brother to the northern part of Nashville last week. Hopefully you will be happy as can be here. Outside of that, I can’t lend much advise of the area. I have been a life long Chattanooga, TN native so if you head a couple of hours southwest maybe otherwise. 😉 Good luck with the move and safe travels south.
Thanks all! Great advice. I really appreciate it.
Hmm, well, I’ve never been to TN, but I just moved last summer, so I can say good luck with that!! We had a moving company helping us transport the stuff, and they did almost all of the unloading, which was great, considering it was 90 degrees that day…
Anyhow, if you want to get to know some people there, I’d definitely suggesting getting involved in your kids’ school somehow. 4 years old is too young for stuff like the Band Boosters or sports teams, but there’s always the PTA and volunteering in general.
Best of luck!
If possible, try to shop in another state. Sales tax is crazy. 🙂
Check that whole “seasons” thing out. Once you get there, ask neighbors or check out weather.com for advice about the weather. Find out what to do if a tornado comes around, and how to spot the warning signs. Might want to check with a mechanic and find out what sorts of things you need to know about that whole transition between cold weather and warm and visa versa. Check your allergies, TN is one of those states that is sort of in the crosswinds, and if you are allergic to any plant, you’ll find out after moving there.
Shop on Saturdays, including gas. I don’t recall exactly where we were, other than within about 400 miles of Nashville, but we started running low on gas while driving through there, and we couldn’t find a gas station that was actually open on a Sunday. If people are warning you about the religious welcome wagon, I’d wager you’ll have trouble finding open stores on Sundays.
Hey, pre-welcome to TN! I’ve lived here pretty much all my life, and currently reside in Murfreesboro, a little ways east of Franklin.
A few pointers:
1) Don’t go into downtown Nashville during Fan Fair; in fact, it’s best not to leave the house at all in Middle TN…
2) Streets change names seemingly at random, and no, no-one will tell you about it beforehand when giving directions.
3) Always assume that any interstate you need to get on is under construction; 9 times out of 10, you’ll be right.
Good luck, and enjoy Franklin (a fine “little” town).
Remember the good things about the south –
1. Southern Barbecue
2. Sweet Tea
3. Warm weather in March
4. Sweet Tea
5. A more relaxed pace of life
6. Sweet Tea
7. The accent sounds even more adorable on little kids (you will love it)
8. Sweet Tea
9. Sweet Tea
10. Sweet Tea
Don’t forget to bring lots and lots of insect repellent!
And good luck with the move!
Alex: “Wait…what about the dragons? And Felicity’s race?”
Horatio: “Oh, they didn’t come in until the Dreamland Expansison Pack.”
Just spent the weekend near Franklin. I live in Memphis. Its beautiful out there. THe pace of living will be different from what you are used to but I think you will love it. Nashville is a pretty awesome town. Come visit Memphis if you get a chance it is pretty cool too. You just missed Memphis in May but you can catch it next year. :). Welcome to the South. 🙂
you will go crazy with how slow paced things will be! Enjoy the peace and quiet.
Why the move anyways? quite alarge one!
How are your grass pollen allergies? A lot of Westerners who’ve never had hay fever in their lives get a shock when they discover ragweed.
The other thing that I never got used to the years I spent in the south was the humidity. They start getting out the lotion and complaining about how dry it is when the humidity drops below 60%. (Out here we start complaining about how muggy it is when the humidity gets over 40%.)
I don’t know what people mean by a “slower pace of life”. Everyone drives 70 on the freeways, and 60 on the windy 2 lane roads that have stone walls close enough to scrape off your rear view mirrors.
On the other hand, the food is great, the neighbors are nice, in no time you’ll be saying “y’all” as if you’ve lived there all your life. And you’ll be close enough to visit Michael W. Smith’s church.
Good luck & best wishes for the move, Scott 🙂
I lived in Knoxville for several years in the ’80s, and liked it a lot, though it was a little remote for a small town boy with big-city hankerings. Very nice laid-back quality overall. That is part of why I left for Boston; I felt like I’d just happily drift away and not accomplish anything (that says more about me then than it does about Tennessee).
BTW, the state is pronounced with the accent on the first syllable.
